  • Wild ~ A Tabletop RPG

Hello Age of War, and welcome to the first BATPOOL led tabletop roleplaying game. Lets give this a bit of context first though, so I was thinking about it, and since we now have the ability to roll dice on command, we could do a forum game of almost any RPG we wish. So I decided it would be cool to do one using my own system that I wrote awhile back. Someone else probably already thought up this system awhile back, but anyhow, enjoy.
IMPORTANT: Admin permission was received before the post was made. So thank you Kairu for allowing this to exist.

The system and rules: The system and rules are very simple. So, for the purpose of everything you must roll a 12 sided die for almost everything. This includes:

    Fighting

    Looting

    Traveling

    Dueling (PvP)

    Looting

    Disarming Traps

    etc.

Rolling a 1 is a fumble, meaning whatever it was you were rolling for not only fails, but causes extra damage. In order to get a successful roll you must have a roll 4 or over.

Rolling a twelve is a critical, meaning you excel at whatever you're doing, or in a combat situation, you deal double damage.

The damage on a weapon (Displayed as (+1) or (+2) etc) (Rusty Pistol (+2)

If you're confused I will let you know when you need to roll, so no worry's. So now is what you need to know, is about the world.

Set in a fantasy old western/steampunk time, our little RP takes place in a country called Texas. It consists in an alternate time line where the good'ol USA was never United. Texas never became a state, and the rest of the "states" just became colonies. Adventure and fortune awaits around every corner in this world. In the south (A coastal region filled with harbors) a world renowned inventor named Archimedes has created quite a stir as he invented steam powered replacements to every human body part imaginable. He offered them for cheap to the disabled, and though he called them "Assisted" the non-"Assisted" dubbed them "Steamborgs". People were very unsettled, as instead of body parts and bones there were brass limbs, and plates showing through where there should be a skull. The womenfolk protested that it unsettled their children, the men protested that it unsettled the women. The lower ranks of sheriffs and deputies said that if they wanted to riot the streets would soon be bathed in blood. Although at current steamborgs are still legalized, people frequently lash out at them, in many stores they aren't allowed to shop, they aren't allowed to take certain boats, etc. The steamborgs issue is mainly limited to South Texas, off to the north there's a whole other problem.

The north is nothing but a desert wasteland with a few scattered mines, most of them abandon. People had flocked to the desert when a ore called Shirkstone was found, and many camps and cities were set up in haste, there were many amazing things the ore could allegedly do, however, much of the enthusiasm died down when it was discovered just that there was an insane number of Apaches. The Apaches soon set up their own massive city, and most people fled, the few Texans that do still inhabit the desert are mostly made up of bandits and miners. The Apaches claim to be peaceful, but the neighboring inhabitants aren't so sure.

In the West, the land is somewhat less of a wasteland then the north, with few and far between areas of shrubbery and brush peppering the landscape. The Indians aren't a problem in the west, because the Texans came through and decimated them. Any Indian villages that were not pillages and destroyed, were likely hidden or tucked away in some mountain valley, yet to be touched by the Texans. As a result of such savagery, a Indian shaman cast a curse on the people who committed such atrocity's. Children have begun coming out deformed, or with special ability's, the few who are allowed to grow up are shunned by society, or simply kept under lock and key. One man had started a city he claimed would shelter the children, and allow them to grow up and live normal lives, however the parents of such children who have allowed their kids to go there have yet to see their children again.

The east lies shrouded in mystery, with only rumors drifting through of the dead walking the earth again, and wolf-men prowling the streets at night. Many strange things may be found in the east, but only the bravest and boldest of adventurers journey there.

**HINT: In case you missed the incredibly obvious clues, south is more roleplay focused, north is combat focused, west is exploration focused, and east is the most difficult but blends all those three**

So that's the gist of what's going on in this world, so now you'll need to know how to create a character, which requires you to know the races and classes, so without further ado, here's your race list:

    Gek:
With a very lizard-like appearance, no one's really sure where the Geks came from. In the north, a group of miners were just doing their thing one day, when lizard people began crawling out of the mineshaft walls. Their skin changed with whatever surface they were on, and apart from standing on two legs and being able to speak the common tongue, the Gek's seemed like giant Geckos, and thus they were named "Gek".
Abilities: Stealth (+1) Agility (+1) Strength/Melee (-2) *Regenerates one health every turn*

    Indian*:
The Indians are looked upon by the common folk as animals, and some tribes may behave like animals, but most have begun residing peacefully. Indians are taught combat skills at a very young age, and thus are more aptly equipped to deal with the harsh world around them.
    Abilities: Stealth (+1) Strength (+1) Magic (+1) Defense (-3)
*Footnote: No I am not trying to say that Indians and Caucasians are a different race, but I feel like making Indians and common-folk a different race is better for the purpose of the RP, since Indians will clearly have some skills commoners wouldn't.

    Caucasian:
Not really much to say here. These guys are the dominant race in Texas.
    Abilities: Strength (+2) Ranged (+1) Diplomacy (-3)

    Steamborg:
I already explained these guys relationship to the people. They have brass exo skeletons, which unless covered will show through, along with all the steam mechanics and such that go into powering such an limb.
    Abilities: Defense (+1) Strength (+2) Magic (-2) Agility (-1)

Those are your race choices, now for class choices.

    Gunslinger:
These duelist's live for the thrill of the desert, letting their guns do the talking for them most of the time, when there's a fight you'll want to count on these guys to have your back.
Ranged (+3) *Starts the game with a Revolver*

    Bounty Hunter:
Prowling the world with weapon in hand and pouncing on the chance to make a buck, these guys pride themselves on what they do and they're pretty darn good at it.
Ranged (+1) Strength (+1) *Starts the game with a Tomahawk (+1)*

    Lawbringer:
Meet the goody two shoes of this savage world, the lawbringer seek to bring some order to the chaos that is Texas. Trusty pistol at their side, they roam the lands seeking to bring and end to bandits and the scum of the earth.
Ranged (+2) Strength (+1) *starts the game with a Revolver and Lawman badge*

    Vigilante:
Though their methods are widely debated whether acceptable or not, it cannot be denied they do a good job at what they do, which would be ending the reign of terror that savage men bring, in the places Lawbringers dare not go.
Strength (+3) *Starts the game with a Knife*

    Dealer:
The Dealers are believed by many to have simply learned a few fancy card tricks from working poker games at bars, but a select few know the truth, which is that they are modern day wizards.
Magic (+3) *Starts the game with a Deck of Cards (Spells: Fire Card, Explode Card, and Decoy Card)

    Brave:
The Braves were raised by Indian tribes, and trained from a young age to hunt with an assortment of weapons, although most braves stayed with their tribes, some either chose to split off, or didn't have the option to stay.
    Strength (+1) Ranged (+1) Magic (+1)

    CHARACTER CREATION RULES:

    1. Backstory must back up your characters chosen class and race

    2. All basic AoW character creation rules apply here

    3. There is no set sign up period, so you can join in at any time you wish, however, for late bloomers since I am GM (Game Master) I will be roleplaying how your character is introduced, from there it's up to you.

    4. To add my own little twist on this, character apps must be PM'ed to me, so this way your character interaction with eachother will be fresh and you all will be discovering eachother's characters at the same pace your character is.

    5. No made up races or classes.

    6. You start in central Texas.

    7. Don't start roleplaying til we have at least 2 characters.

    8. Yes I actually have a standard for the characters I want in this RP, yes it's fairly low.

    9. Please try to make it imaginative, this is a wacky world in a wacky universe, don't be scared to make a bizarre or funny character, I wont deny you a character just because it's immature or psychotic.

    10. Stick to the App sheet when creating your character, I will be keeping track of character inventory's and HP, all you need to do is make the thing.

    THE APP:

    Name:

    Race:

    Class:

    Basic Appearance:

    Basic Personality:

Short Backstory: *Please no more then 4 paragraphs, I mean if you feel it needs to be long that's fine, but try to keep it short*

    Special notes: *optional*

Okay, so that's all you need to get yourself started, when we are ready to start (We'll need at least two characters) Ill make a post entailing the starting town and such. For now please read these rules which will give you sort of a feel for the game:

    1. I am Game Master, this means I control all non player characters.

    2. I roll the dice for your enemies

    3. After battle loot is decided by you rolling the dice, unless it's a Legendary, there can only be one of each legendary.

    4. To get a feel for combat please observe the following sample:

Jon: Attack: Bandit: Ranged: Pistol *Insert roll here*

James: Cast: Goblin: Ranged: Deck of Cards *Insert Roll Here*

Missy: Attack: Puppy: Melee: Knife: *Insert Roll here*

    5. Although I will be keeping track of all characters in a word doc, it is recommended you at least keep track of your own inventory.

    6. A turn happens when everyone has attacked, stats will be displayed at the end of each turn

    7. In order to preserve game flow, if you take over four days to post on a turn, you will be skipped.

    8. Chest loot is random and dictated by a roll

    9. For now you are restricted to roaming Texas, no where else, please do not make me create a bizarre story as to why you cannot leave the country, it's a big place and you should find it aptly entertaining.

    10. Please don't attempt to plan out every little thing you want to do, I want it to be spontaneous, not like the current main AoW roleplay which is planned out for the next six hundred and sixty six years.

    11. Expanding on rule 4, all actions in a combat scenario should be formatted like that, outside of combat you are to RP like you would on AoW by default.

    12. I as GM also control the environment, so for example say someone makes a post like:

"Jon fired his pistol at the window and it shattered."

I would not allow it, they would have to first say Jon was firing at the window, then I would say whether he hit it or not.

Jon: Attack: Window: Ranged: Gun: *Insert roll*

    13. To be successful at pretty much anything, you must have a roll higher than 3, except in:

    14. Death. You may be revived twelve times by a teammate, this is called manual revive. The first time you die, it takes a roll of 1 or higher to revive you, the second time you die the roll has to be 2 or higher, etc, etc. There are other various ways to revive teammates after death, but you'll have to discover those for yourself.

    15. Everyone starts with 10 HP and 0 luck (Looting ability)

    16. You get 20 inventory slots with no way to increase them, unless your character has some sort of sack penalty's in agility will be given based off of the amount off the loot to strength ratio, keep this in mind.

    17. Leveling up - You don't need to worry about this to much, I'll keep track of all XP, but you will be required to specify what stat you want to level up, the stats are:

    Health (Duh)

    Strength (Melee damage)

Ranged (Damage done with ranged weapons)

Magic (Certain spells require a certain magic level to cast)

Stealth (Adds to stealth attempt rolls)

    Luck (Adds to looting rolls)

    18. Defense is another stat, but you can't level it up, you need to find armor to increase defense. Defense deducts attack rolls. Example: I roll a 3 and you have a defense of 1, my attack now does 2 damage.

    19. Combat, combat is easy, I roll for your enemy and you roll for yourself. If your roll is higher then my roll then the enemy you are fighting is damaged the same amount you rolled. Enemy HP is personally dictated by me (There will be spells that allow you to see the details but I'll show most of them) in order to match you skill level. Enemy's levels dictate their attack and HP, example: A level 2 enemy will have +2 on every stat except defense.

Okay, so that's all you need to know to get started, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Assuming we have two players, this RPG starts two weeks from today. Good luck everyone.
REMEMBER: PM ME YOUR CHARACTER APPS. DO NOT POST THEM HERE.
