  • Gorbi the Goron

    Name: Gorbi
    Gender: male
    Race: Goron
    Age: 31
    Occupation: jeweler

    Appearance:
Gorbi is on the small side for Gorons, standing at barely 6 feet in height. His skin is dark, nearly obsidian, and he takes pride in its sheen, going so far as to spend hours polishing it. His hair, by contrast, is a stark white grown in a fan-like mohawk. His eyes, already large blue orbs, are made larger by the various jeweler’s specs he wears. When not in use, these delicate pieces are carefully hung from sturdy cords around the spokes of his mohawk.
He wears a typical rope loincloth around his round belly. He carries a pack on his back, sturdy enough to protect its contents should he need to roll away, although he prefers to take his time and walk places. A pair of large silver cuffs are around each wrist, with matching armbands around his upper arms. Both sets have delicately chiselled patterns resembling stars, although he’ll argue they are sparks from a fire instead.

    Starter Pack:
Gorbi always carries some of his wares in his pack, usually simple pieces that he can sell to any interested parties. In addition, he has a few delicate jeweler’s tools, each carefully crafted so his large hands can use them without breaking them, or losing the daintiness necessary for his craft. Being a Goron, he carries no weapons and wears no armor, believing his intimidating size to discourage most thieves and his fists to deal with the few brave or stupid enough to accost him.

    Personality:
As typical of Gorons, Gorbi is generally laid back and cheerful. He can get passionate about his craft, however, to the point he’ll argue against gemstones, believing the rocks to be as tasteless in jewelry as they are in meals. In fact, he’ll argue any point if he’s convinced he’s right, until either proven wrong or the other person gives up. This has lost him a few relationships, and customers, so he treats his few friends as the precious things they are. His other main passion is, as mentioned above, his appearance. Any dirt or scuffs not accumulated in the name of his craft must be immediately addressed, and Gorbi often expects the world around him to pause as he takes care of such concerns. A few allow him this, since this attention is what has enabled him to become such a good jeweler, but most lack the patience.

    Skills:
A skilled jeweler, Gorbi has been trained in all manner of delicate metal working. This includes incorporating gemstones, although he only does so under heavy persuasion and with much grumbling. He has learned to use his big hands for dainty work, a unique trait among Gorons. He can also tell a fake gem from a real one, although again, he has little interest in it. He never forgets a face, although he’ll rarely remember the name attached to it, but rather remembers the exact piece he sold to that individual.

    Backstory:
Gorbi grew up among the Highland Gorons with the Gerudo. Even as a youth, he fascinated over the uses for metals, and enjoyed spending time in the forge tinkering. As he grew older, however, he decided that the larger pieces for the various construction equipment or weaponry were too bland and constant. He preferred variety, beauty in the unique. He made a few detailed pieces, daggers and the like, before finally settling on jewelry. The Gerudo were a great source to learn from, given their own proclivity towards jewelry making, but he often dismissed the techniques of his mentors. After all, most insisted on using gemstones, shiny rocks that were utterly useless. Gorbi preferred to revel in the simpler and more honest beauty of molten metal.
He started to develop a name for himself. A small one, he was by no means famous, but enough knew of his work to like it. He started to travel around Hyrule, selling his various pieces. He came to learn, much to his chagrin, that much of Hyrule was dirty. Sand, while it could get everywhere, was at least relatively easy to clean off, and was a great buffer for his jewelry. The majority of Hyrule, however, contained dirt and mud, something that took a good bit more effort to clean, and was nearly useless for anything. He developed a habit of checking himself over to ensure not a hint of it marred his appearance, in case such uncleanliness could transfer itself to his pieces and ruin them.
As news began to spread of the Hyrulean World Fair, Gorbi decided this was an excellent opportunity to sell some of his pieces and spread the idea that simple gold, silver, and iron jewelry is better by far than anything marred with a gemstone.
