Julius laughed. He stepped out of the carriage and approached Natalya. He looked her up and down and examined her weapons.

Julius: I like her, she's not afraid to speak her mind.

Julius motioned for her to follow.

Julius: You join my escort until we reach Leminstar, I'll pay you double what my guards are getting. Sound fair?

Natalya nodded. "Sounds fair enough." She looked him over while the talked, sizing him up. He had an air of competence about him, and his eyes were honest. "We have a deal."

        Julius nodded.

Julius: You can take one of the horses, guard my carriage, and we will be resting in a few hours.

Julius stepped back into his carriage.

Julius: Welcome to the Tyrus Guard.

He smiled and then shut the carriage door.

Natalya swung up onto the horse with an easy grace, her face impassive. Her eyes scanned the countryside for danger constantly, all her senses alert. She had a job to do, and she was not going to let her personal discomfort get in her way.

Julius watched Natalya from his carriage as the escort began to move once again.

Julius: If my wife isn't pregnant, I may have found a new one.

            Meanwhile:

The Fiends' Navy sped across the ocean as fast as they could, they had the wind, but it would still be a few days before they reached the fleet and Mayheath.

Vic only hoped that the Elves were pushing on.

In the passing few days, Asar got a report back from his man in Mayheath. He was spending a couple hours to tie up loose ends with his life. He wrote a letter to his family explaining why he chose to do it. When the man felt ready, he entered the Mayheath central building during a city meeting. He entered onto the floor in the main chambers and blew up the weapon Asar had invented. The weapon exploded taking out several adjecent rooms leaving no survivors within the blast range. It seems Asar has made a bomb and used it as a terrorist weapon.

                *Five Days Prior*

It was sunrise in the sea of Mayheath, and the human fleet was sitting in the ocean, more than a hundred feet away was a thick blanket of fog.

The Fiend Navy sailed directly towards this area, and within moments the human naval force was in sight. Seventy-three strong ships versus the hundred the Elves had provided.

Captain: Elves on the port side! What the hell are they doing out here?

The Captain grabbed his binoculars and looked at the Elven fleet, and as he saw Vic stand aboard the bridge, he dropped his binoculars.

Captain: Fiends! All weapons prepare to fire! The quarantine has broken! Signal the other ships!

The Captain barked orders, as the flag for battle was raised and the canons were loaded, but it was too late, the Fiend ships approached quickly and they couldn't load the guns in time.

The Fiends' had the wind and they were gaining on the Humans quickly. Vic saw what the humans were doing and he smiled.

Vic: Pity, they try, yet they will fail. Keep the guns trained on the front ships, fire on my word.

The ships flew towards each other and within a few moments the initial ones passed. The ships crewman looked at each other as they passed.

                Vic: Fire.

The Fiend ships fired upon the human navy, obliterating the first 20 ships in the first volley. The human captain's ship was blown to bits and he was sent flying into the abyss. The Fiend ships passed by another group and they were fired upon this time, most ships taking damage, while others were completely destroyed. They lost 10 ships, before they could fire back and at this time the entire Fiend Navy was firing on every human ship in it's path. Bodies went flying, wood was everywhere and fire began to spread like the water in the ocean. Hundreds of men were slaughtered and fiends even began to board the human ships, killing any in their path. Vic turned around as his ship passed through the destroyed human fleet and watched as his ships came clamoring through to victory. The battle continued to rage for another half hour.

Vic: Keep a dozen ships on patrol, make sure there are no survivors.

By the time the fight was over, thirty-two fiend ships laid at the bottom of the ocean, side by side with sixty-seven human ships. The other six were captured by Fiend crewman and were being piloted within the hour.

Vic was happy with the battle, he won, and only lost a few thousand men in the process. A necessary risk he thought, as he still had over 10,000 willing Fiends ready to take revenge on the humans.

The Fiend ship sailed directly to Mayheath.

                **Yesterday**

Julius' escort was only two days from Leminster, Natalya being a faithful and great addition to the guard.

The escort was attacked nearly six times in the last four days, as thieves tried to steal valuables and assassins tried to claim Julius' head. But all attempts were failed, the Tyrus Guard stopped them.

The sixth attack was an all-out attack on the guard by a group of mercenaries, twenty-men attacked the escort. They were killed within moments and the Guard lost seven men in the fight. Julius did not even look twice at their deaths, but made sure they received proper burial and their families would receive the paycheck.

He had to keep moving, Leminster was only one day away.

                **PRESENT DAY**

Mayheaths' ports are under seige by the Fiend Navy.

The Fiend army has landed 7,500 troops and has begun a seige on the city. The other 2,500 troops have begun to cause havoc among the outer cities and villages. They are currently running unopposed through the Tyrus Empire.

Julius received word of this only moments ago and has put every soldier on immediate demand and to return to their homecity as soon as possible.

In three days, they will begin their counter-offensive on the Fiend army.

Finaeli had been receiving reports of the military campaign on the Humans. The Dwarves were still unwilling to join the conflict, as well as Codale being pillaged and resistance being executed. He also received leaked intel from both the Fiends and the Humans that there is a siege on Mayheath. In addition to the leaked Human intel, the report also contained the attack from Asar. Finaeli felt it is time to mobilize a second front. He began forming orders to assemble a second battalion to march along the southern coast as well as another order to increase garrisons in each city. Should there be a military attack in any Elven city, Finaeli was assured the attacker would be fairly crippled doing so. Or so Finaeli hoped.

Natalya padded up behind Lord Tyrus. "I've met my side of the deal. Now it's your turn. I want my money, Tyrus. I'm tired of waiting for you to get around to it."

Julius was talking to his Legates, but turned and looked at Natalya.

Julius: Money will mean nothing if the Fiends continue their onslaught Natalya. You will get what we agreed upon, but if you join the army, fight in the counter-offensive, you will earn much much more.

Julius then turned around and began listening to his Legates again.

Legate 1: I have 2300 men stationed at Kehill, they are ready.

Legate 2: I have another 5000 men stationed at Haibury, along with siege equipment.

Legate 3: Any word from Legatus Finidis?

Legate 2: None whatsoever, Mayheath is under siege by 7500 Fiends, we can only hope he is resisting.

Legate 1: He has 5000 men, and over 1000 Town Guard, he better be doing more than resisting.

Legate 3: Let us hope so, we have another 2500 Fiends terrorizing the countryside, along with Asar's continued threats, and the Elvens mobilizing their armies we won't stand a chance against the coming invasion.

Legate 1: Nonsense, we have 10,000 men in uniform, with another 7,500 men coming from the country side in response. We can do more than drive them back, we can finish what the Lord-Slayer began...we can end the Fiends.

                      Meanwhile:

Vic was sitting upon his horse, his arm held outwards. Suddenly a large bird landed upon it.

Vic: Villi, what do you have today?

He spoke to the bird and gathered the letter from his contact inside the city.

Contact: Riots are on the rise, men and women are dying for food. The military is losing strength and the Town Guard is nearly depleted. This so-called Legate will not be able to handle the coming days. They are running out of time.

Vic smiled as he heard a catapult launch behind him. The flaming rock signaled the others and dozens more catapults began to fire.

Vic had a very evil grin on his face. He watched the city of Mayheath begin to burn.

Asar was in his dining hall. He was gathered around his table with some of the loyal nobles and his highest commanding officers. They were enjoying a meal until a runner came in holding a report. He handed it to Asar and waited for a reply. Asar read the report and dismissed the runner. Asar stood up and began to make an announcement: "Gentlemen of the Court, it brings me sorrow news that the long forgotten Fiends have begun to invade Mayheath territory. Intelligence has reported that the Elves have allowed these vile vermins to pass through the quarantine and to attack the city of Mayheath. It's unclear whether or not this has been an order by Lord Finaeli or not, but it's safe to assume so. I urge you all, that if you have family in the city of Mayheath, that you go and save them now. However, I fear, by the time the runner made it here, it may be too late." Some of the men got up and began to rush out to get to Mayheath. Asar knew he'd likely never see them again. They're nobles, they have no combat skills, and the Fiends show no mercy. And by this time, the Fiends are probably attacking the city. If the unit report is accurate, Mayheath stands no chance.

Julius: You are talking about annihilating an entire race Legatus Pizkre. This is not Asar's court, nor will it ever be. This is the Tyrus Empire, we have lived in peace for 300 years and I will not stand here and accept the fact that some Fiends and Elves are ravaging my countryside, killing my people, and pillaging our homes! You say we have 10,000 men ready to fight, well get them into action!

Julius paused, he rubbed his forehead. He then set his hands down on the table in front of him.

Julius: Legatus Yegrate, send your 5000 men to Axgate, assemble every man you can on the way there. Legatus Odelle mobilize the 7,500 others and assemble them here. Begin to move 3,000 around the land and kill any Fiends you find, lead them. Pizkre, I want your 2,300 men to form up with my gaurd, the other 2,700 in uniform and the last 4,500 from the countryside, move them to Kehill. We will begin the humans counterattack in two days. Now, everyone except Yegrate, leave us.

The other two Legates and anyone else in the room left.

                          Julius looked at him.

Julius: Yegrate, your men are our only defense against the Elves invading our land. If they are to strike, they will strike there. Get patrols out every 100 miles, and send some scouts to Mayheath. I will not lose our capital.

Legatus Yegrate nodded and bowed before Tyrus.

Yegrate: I will not fail you.

                          Julius: I know.

Yegrate left the room. Julius sat in his chair and rubbed his head. He looked up and saw Natalya.

Julius: Wait a second...Natalya, you. You can help me.

Natalya sighed softly, going up to his desk. She pressed her palms against the wood, leaning so she was eye-to-eye with him. "Let me get this straight. You've had me cooling my heels here for the last several days, giving me excuse after excuse as to why you haven't paid me my due yet, and now you want me to help you?" She growled under her breath, her ice-blue eyes glaring into his unblinking. "If I didn't need the money, I'd tell you to go to hell." She sighed, shoving away from his desk. "Fine. But it's gonna cost you extra, and I want my pay for escorting you here by tonight. I need to get some of my equipment repaired, and I need to resupply." He sighed. "So what is the job this time?"

Julius: You do realize at any given moment I could of just had you killed?

Julius stood and towered over Natalya.

Julius: I am your Emperor, whether you like it or not. I control this Empire, I say who lives and who dies! And I say when you get your payment!

Julius walked around the table to face Natalya.

Julius: Your payment has been in your quarters for the last few hours. As for my other job, you will get paid when you return from it and I need proof of it's completion.

Julius leaned against the table. He grinned and spoke one word.

                              Julius: Assassination.
