  • Steampunk RPG: Through the Steamed Mirror

Well this is the new Steampunk Zelda RPG I've been wanting to make. Now, here's the story:

    PLOT AND SETTING
It is a distant future version of Twilight Princess' Hyrule. Specifically, it isto Era 5 and Yearher 10, roughly towardsa the end of the year.

Hailing from the Unknown Reaches of the East, a young woman, Beale Clibbourne Valentine [Val-en-teen], entered Hyrule with her Armada of airships. She assaulted and sieged Hyrule Castle and forced a decisive and crushing surrender.

With Hyrule Castle and the Lanayru Province under her complete control, she focused on its reconstruction. It took roughly a year and a half, but the Province was upgraded to match her advanced technology, most of which ran off of steam power. She began to expand outward. She sent her Armada to the Eldin Province where they were immediately annexed into Valentine's Empire. Upon the annexation, the Goron settlement around Death Mountain was imprisoned within the ancient Fire Temple at inside the summit.

By Year 3, Castle Town becomes a City. As an appreciation measure, Valentine restructured the government to create the Valentine Hyperion. Upon the creation, Leoni Vosterku of Castle City founds the Resistance, headquarted on his flagship, Vicious Slave.

In Year 4 the Desert Province surrenders to the Valentine Hyperion. Several battles are also fought in the Peak Province, but the Gorons and Zoras rebel. However, fearing the growing Resistance both factions choose to remain independent. In addition to the Gerudo surrender, many rogue soldiers join the Resistance, adding unique airships to their fleet.

In Year 6: Faron Province is conquered and along its Southern border, mining begins for rare minerals. In addition, the Gorons in Peak Province begin mining there as well. It is at this point Valentine disengages herself from the public and recluses to the Castle.

Year 7: The Valentine Hyperion move to assault Ordona, but with the help of the Twili, Ordona survives for a while until the Hyperion redoubles its efforts, defeating both armies. Ordona surrenders to the Hyperion shortly after. Meanwhile construction of thethe Valentine Militaryof Academy is completed in Castle City.

Year 10: Was the Year Grand Duchess Valentine appoints Annie Holligan III of Kakariko the Valentine Hyperion Fleet Admiral. Under Holligan's orders, the Hyperion begins mining operations in Ordona, using the locals for slave labor.

The Character App is as follows:

    Name: Sephira Eferie
    Age: 21
    Occupation: Healer
General Appearance: She is slender and tall, and fairly strong despite her lean form. She has lightly tanned skin and soft green eyes. She has dark blonde hair reaching to her shoulders. It is usually kept loose, but she pulls it into a bun when she is working. She has a black star tattoo about two inches long on her chest.
Normally, she wears a light green shirt polo shirt, unbuttoned so her tattoo is visible, black jeans, and black boots. However, when she moved to Castle City, she started buttoning the shirt so that her star was hidden. When she is helping a patient, she often wears a white, full-length apron to keep her clothes from getting stained, and gloves. When she is making house-calls, she carries a satchel with different herbs and salves in it.
Weapon: A crossbow mounted on the back of her left hand on a black glove; bolts surround her wrist and are fed into the crossbow as she fires with it. She rarely goes anywhere without it, as a habit from her Stari background, but she usually leaves it off when she’s home. She has a black dagger that she keeps in a leg sheath at all times.

Biggest Annoyance: Being compared to her ancestor, Sephira Phoenix. Seeing magic being ill-treated and not being able to do something about it.
Biggest Joy: Healing someone. Bringing joy to someone’s life.
    Favorite Sin: Pride
    Favorite Virtue: Perseverance
Household: She lives alone but for a male husky named Mangus.
One thing they love or another favorite:

    “Brief” Backstory:
Stari history up to this point:

Princess Sephira Phoenix brought her tribe back from the ashes when she gave birth to several children, many of whom carried different gifts from her ancestors. Because of her wanderings outside the forest, Sephira altered the traditions of her people. Instead of gifting each child with a cheetah cub on their twelfth birthday, she showed them how to control their abilities. Instead of the week away from the tribe at sixteen years, her children were given a tattoo of a black star to show they were grown-ups in the tribe. She still taught them to communicate with animals, understand tracks, and the different uses for plants; however, she decided not to settle in one place. While some Stari chose permanent establishments, most became nomadic tribes, often splitting into smaller groups when they grew large.
When Valentine invaded, Stari attacked her forces, defending their homes until they all perished. The nomadic Stari stayed out of her way for the most part, although some attacked her when she started destroying the earth in the name of advancement. These attacks did little more than a fly’s attack on a bear, however, and these Stari eventually gave up or joined the Resistance. Most Stari prefer to remain neutral in the fight; while they dislike Valentine’s destruction for mining, they also dislike Vosterku’s methods.

Sephira Eferie is a direct descendent of Sephira Phoenix, and as such, has her phoenix abilities. She is often compared to her great-grandmother because of this, and because she is the next in line as leader. However, she dislikes these many comparisons, as they are usually negative. Sephira loved to play pranks and steal things (she does return them eventually), traits that are considered immature and not worthy of her line.
When she was about 17, she decided she had had enough of wandering with her tribe and decided to settle down. After having observed Castle City, she was confident she could fit in there. She was only mildly wrong; she hadn’t realized that her Stari abilities would be looked down upon among the more scientific people. She quickly learned to hide her magic and started using her other talents to earn a living. Her chief talent had always been with herbs and healing; she developed these until she was a decent, at-home doctor, although she is trying to become better. She only uses her fire ability when she needs it for an emergency, but her phoenix gift gets more attention. She shifts into her phoenix form on cold evenings to keep warm, and she uses her own downy feathers to make her pillows and blankets, as well as the ones that she gives away to the needy.
She found Mangus as a starving pup not long after settling down in Castle City. She brought him home and fed him. She tried to find his owner, but since she had no luck and was feeling rather lonely anyways, she kept him for herself. He has grown rather tubby, but she is starting to thin him down by wrestling with him. Carefully, though, as she doesn’t want to encourage him to attack people.
Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

      POSTING MAY NOW BEGIN

      Dr. Sam Dixon

      Leoni Vosterku

      Grand Duchess Valentine

      Fleet Admiral Holligan

In the Skies of Ordona - Nightfall

Valentine Hyperion Fleet Ordona was holding position along the Ordona border. The mining site was several klicks to the southwest from the fleet. The commanding officer of the fleet, was out on the bow of his airship, surveying the surroundings every so often, which was normal for him. He turned used the max setting on his zoom-o-scope (a handfree, headset telescope). He looked out and through the darkening clouds he saw the darker silhouette of a ship. The fleet admiral hollered for battlestations. He had a sneaking feeling he knew who was coming. The fleet admiral continued to look through his contraption until the flag of the airship broke through the cloud. That's when he got the full sight of the lead ship.

The flag bore a blue background with the image of a pair of shackles, with two swords crossing where the wrists would typically be. The fleet admiral was right. He called for the standard attack formation, each ship lining up and allowing the enemy pass through the line as well as themselves. Generally it works well with the Resistance, as their hulls were wooden with the Valentine fleets being made of an unknown metallic alloy.

Then, once both of the fleets were all lined up every ship fired all of their rounds. The metal airships came out at a huge advantage taking little damage and the wooden ships taking massive hits. It was fortunate that the blimps and zepplins of the Resistance's ships were recently fortified with metallic plating. It allowed the balloons to last longer in combat at the sacrifice of the altitude they'd normally get.

The Valentine fleet quickly turned around and lined up, taking a defensive position. Their bows and sterns were lined up and they all were facing the same direction. This setup allowed them to maintain their formation after the attack without ever hitting each other. The Valentine Fleet Admiral watched as the Resistance struggled to regroup. He ordered for his fleet to fire on the uncoordinated Resistance fleet, the wooden ships taking damage from various angles.

While the Hyperion Fleet reloaded, the Resistance ships finally regrouped, some of the weaker ships took point, making a b-line straight for the held line of the Valentine fleet, turning into a game of airship chicken. The Valentine ships fired again, blasting holes into the bows of the wooden ships. Many of the weaker ones now raging with fire from the tipped over lamplights and mini-electrical generators. The Valentine fleet admiral saw this has his chance and he had the anti-airship cannons readied.

These cannons were special and costly to build, so usually there was one on every standard Valentine ship, two on important vessels. These cannons were important and what led to many victories over the Resistance. They were often loaded with a special casing. It was three times heavier than a standard cannonball and five times as long. The casings were loaded and the Resistance ships knew what was about to happen. Suddenly, the wooden ships broke their amateur formation and went into evasive manuevers. The casings were fired. Large slug shots flew through the air and after several seconds, the casing flew apart, revealing a web of harpoons. Many of the airships were fortunate, however, the weaker ones took damage to their balloons and it popped. Gravity soon resuming and the wooden hulls falling to the surface, and eventually a small firey explosion. Despite their losses, the Resistance stayed to fight. They lined up, and got as much altitude as they could. They then adjusted their weight to tilt and face the Valentine fleet and getting out of their cannon range.

It seemed like a perfect plan until the flak cannons were fired at the Resistance ships. The saving grace being the blue flare shot up from the Ordona mining site. That was the Resistance's cue they were stalling for. A voice from the lead Resistance ship echoed a retreat and the Valentine fleet allowed them to go, sailing back towards Eldin

Sephira walked down the street to the store, Mingus at her side. He wore a collar and leash, but he didn't need them. As a Stari, Sephira could tell him what she wanted him to do. He would usually do it, although he did have a bit of an independent spirit. She liked it even when it was annoying; she didn't need a mindless slave or robot. She had adopted Mingus because she wanted company. An actual human being would be nice, but she didn't dare. Not with her magic. Not with her abilities. She wouldn't be able to hide her gifts from someone for more than two or three days, and she wasn't sure she could last that long. She was Stari, her gifts were inbred. Not using them would be the same as not using her ears or her hands, impossible. Her phoenix form especially sang to her, crying for release. There had been several times where she yearned to shed her human form and fly, to skim the breezes and touch clouds, but she daren't. If magic was disdained, creatures of magic were loathed. She was careful with her feathers when she shifted, to make sure they were either tightly sealed in the blankets and pillows she gave away, or destroyed in her fireplace.
At least her fire was easy to use without arousing suspicion. She could use it to sterilize her instruments when she worked on patients, to bring water to a boil quicker, and in extreme cases, cauterize a wound. This last one was always the hardest, but she found a way. She always found a way. She had to.
Mangus snorted softly, sensing her melancholy mood. If you left the city, you wouldn't have to worry about your abilities.
She shook her head. It would be worse out there. I'd have to deal with the Resistance, she replied, speaking softly so that no one would know she wasn't speaking Hylian. No, the only place I'd be accepted would be back with my tribe, but finding them will be impossible. No doubt they have gone to ground with Valentine's rule.
I will follow where you lead, Princess, and protect you from harm, he replied, calling her by the title she had left with her tribe. He wasn't doing it to hurt her; it was her birthright.
Ah, my little warrior, she sighed, for Mangus means warrior. I know you would. I just couldn't bear it if anything happened to you. She ruffled his ears, then turned onto the street with the store. She had only a few things to buy, so she hoped to be in and out quickly.

The beaten and battered ships of the Resistance docked at a refueling station along the Lanayru-Eldin border. Before long, several Resistance soldiers entered the station. An exchange occured with the man in a long blue jacket. Behind the arrived soldiers was a large crate. Soon the man with the jacket shook hands with the soldiers and dragged the crate on-board is ship, Vicious Slave.

When it was brought aboard, several of the crewmen grabbed the crate and took it a few decks below, the man with thew blue jacket in tow. They arrived to a room where Sam Dixon, their lead scientist and researcher, was working. The crate was thrown on the floor.

            Dixon: "What is this?"

Man in Blue: "It came from the Ordona mines. This is what I believe why the Valentine Hyperion came to Hyrule. Your assignment is to figure out what that is."

Dixon: "Yes Sir, I will get to work on it now."

Nivar bumped his gliding bicycle up the stairs of his house that lead to the open rooftop. He had made the wings able to fold inwards so he could cram the bike through tight spaces like this. Once he was outside, he wheeled it to one side of the roof, facing the opposite side with the street past it. He threw a leg over it to sit, one foot on a pedal and the other holding him up on the ground. He wasn't too worried about anything going wrong. Lots of people thought it was a stupid idea. Even he did, before he had crafted the design. It was surely the largest and most original thing he had ever made. He had spent every afternoon for the past week in the field outside town, taking test runs. He was pretty determined to try the project out, enough to buy a second bike using his work money. He had made many modifications to the bicycle until earlier that day, when he got it working just right and it glided off the grass perfectly every time. Now he was going to have fun with it like he had intended.

The bicycle he used was his old one but it was still in pretty good shape. All of it's chains worked fine and the tires were in perfect condition. Even it's shining red paint still looked good. He had added large metal wings just in front of the handle bars, and a smaller set reaching out behind the back wheel. He also painted the added parts bright red, and he had been careful to make it look as neat as he could.

Nivar popped his right foot onto the pedal, and quickly started pedaling. He accelerated across the roof, and before he dropped off the edge of the building towards his death, the bike lifted into the air. It didn't rise too high, instead it steadily flew in a straight line over the street. He took a quick glance under his bike at the street below to see the distant street lamps and a few surprised faces looking up, and then whipped his eyes back ahead of him, his stomach fluttering. The roof of the store ahead quickly came towards him, and before he knew it, he was smoothly riding across, making sure he stopped moving before he fell off the other end. He had piled up lots of practice and confidence from his runs in the field, so he wasn't too surprised at how easy it was to fly over the street. He was still a bit queasy from his flight, but it was that exiting, thrilled feeling of nausea he liked.

Sephira quickly bought all the things she needed and exited the store, carrying them in a few bags on her arm. Mangus also carried one in his mouth, although Sephira had made sure it was not the one with the meat. She didn't want him to be tempted to eat it all on the way home, should they stop at any intersections for traffic.
She had been saddened to find her wallet was nearly empty of Ruppees, as there hadn't been many people who needed her treatments. Most people preferred to be taken care of at proper hospitals, not by a 'witch doctor'. It was only the people who wanted not to be reported for bizarre or suspicious injuries that came to her, or with diseases that the doctors didn't know how to cure, that came to her. She didn't know how to cure those either, but she could usually figure some herbal concotion that would treat the symptoms. She sighed. "If the war came here, I'd have more work. Yet I don't want people to be hurt for it."
Become a military doctor then, Mangus grumbled. You'd help them then.
I'd also be a target for enemy bullets, she replied. She didn't get a chance to continue as she heard something on the roof of the store. She turned and was surprised to see someone sitting on a bike up there. She frowned as she saw the wings. "What in Na- the world are you doing up there?" She mentally berated herself for nearly letting the goddess' name slip. Few believed in the goddesses anymore.

While the Resistance fleet was on the eastern border of Hyrule repairing their ships, Sam was working diligently on the Vicious Slave. He was doing every test he could to the ore that he could think of. It wasn't until he heated a portion that he found the results he was working for.

Sam: "My goodness! This is quite the discovery!"

Sam was going borderline insane from the ore. He had never seen anything like it. A deep indigo ore that, when put into a machine, say a furnace, melts and releases a gas. Sam did just that, and when the ore burned, he captured as much of the mysterious gas as he could.

But it was just gas? The next mystery was figuring out what the gas is. But soon is problem solved itself when he let go of the canister. It floated. Floated to where it hit the ceiling of his lab. Sam began to laugh maniacally. He knew what the gas was and could hypothesize a future use for it. In his mind, it's the greatest discovery since the "electical" properties of a Goddess Gem.

Sam went to the communications piping on the wall.

Sam: "Captian, I need you in my lab at once. I have the results for you."

About a minute later, the man with the blue jacket entered Sam's lab, oblivious to his floating canister above him.

Captain: "Well Doctor? What is it?"

Sam merely nodded at the canister above his head.

Sam: "You see Captain, apparently when this ore is exposed to heat, it begins a melting process. When the melting process kicks in, the end product is a gas which appears to have a 'lighter than air' property. And as the fact that it was already exposed to heat in the initial test, I've concluded it is non-flammable."

The man looked rather impressed while being explained the results. Although he was no scientist, he began to think of the same ideas as Sam. It wasn't until one thought had crossed his mind. And it wasn't a happy one, judging by his expressions changing.

Captain: "Sam, do you think Valentine already knew about this? Is that why they went to mining operations already?"

Upon being asked the question, Sam's face began to show the same concern as his Captain's.

Sam: "To be honest, I don't know. They may have had an idea, but if you're asking what makes their ships fly, when there's no evidence of a balloon? Airship schematics are beyond me. However, they may very well be using a different element than what they found here in Ordona. But, I have no doubt that they will be converting over to this stuff, if they aren't already using it."

The Captain's face expression went back to a happier one.

Captain: "Well Doctor, it seems, up to Hyrule's knowledge, that you've discovered a new element. Being the discoverer, it is up to you to name it."

Sam nodded. He already began thinking of a name during the testing phase.

Sam: "Dixinium. I am naming the gas Dixinium. The ore will be Dixinium ore."

Captain: "In the mean time Doctor, great work on Dixinium's discovery. Go take a break. I will give you a new assignment after my meeting with the Resistance's top officials."

Sam nodded back at the Captain showing that he understood his orders to rest. The Captain left right after the nod and returned to his bridge to go and assemble his top brass
