Time, hardware, finances, connection, etc. From the knowledge I know, it's not easy running a MC server to be up 24/7. If I had a separate desktop, I couldn't guarantee activity. For now, I'm willing to do various P2P networking and host small networks on Hamachi, but it would require a compiled modpack for me to assemble, including a clean version of MC 1.7.2 and Forge to override any modloader.
I guess I'll finally join into this conversation. I would have to disagree with Batpool on the idea of a public server - I don't think the server should be a way to attract new members, and I don't think it even really would. We have better ways to get new members if we want to. Also, I'm not a server guy so I can't be sure, but it seems like being public would only make it harder to run the server. I doubt we would get any visitors besides the AoW crowd. I think it should just be a little server for members to hang out. And Kairu, if you do decide to run the server, I don't think you should bother keeping it up 24/7 unless you want to. There's only one or two people I can think of who would actually spend that much time on it. You could just make a sticky or something beforehand to tell when the server will go online so everyone who wants to go on knows when it will be up. That's IF you decide to start a server, of course. To be honest, I'm not sure if I would even go on much.
I have run a server before for just me and my friends, and it wouldnt be that hard to run for most of the time.
Pretty much if you leave the server console up the server will remain up.
However, it doesnt sound like kairu wants to do this.
Ik of a server I think ya'll would enjoy if we want to get together in minecraft, I wont say anything more on the matter tho, til kairu gives us a definite yes or no.
Lets not pressure him anymore, it honestly seems like he has a crystal clear veiw of what he wants the server to be like.
Thats about all I got on the subject, g'day.
