I come here in the hopes that someone knows how to construct a syntax tree D:
Like this, only with more complex sentences like "The policeman knows that the suspect lied and that Larry witnessed the crime."

Sorry, Elliot. I have no freaking idea.
Anyway, I can help with math and science, as well as world history and some US history.
And if you have any information on the Aztecs, please share.

If you explained to me what the D, P, NP, and such stood for, I think I can help you, Elliot.
Deku, what exactly about the Aztecs are you looking for?

S is for Sentence, the top-level structure in this example. NP for Noun Phrase. VP for Verb Phrase. V for Verb. D is for Determiner, as is 'the'. N for Noun.

Thanks, J. I was thinking that's what it was, but I tend to think different from what it's supposed to be.
So what sort of sentences are you looking for using that, Elliot?

I think the sentence you gave Ell looks something like the attachment I put on this post, but who knows I might be totally wrong. You can use this website too: http://www.ironcreek.net/phpsyntaxtree/?

Well, you were right about it standing for noun phrase and verb phrase and all that like and it does look similar to what I've been doing, but not quite.. I'd still need to label the connectors, point out where the I(+/-pst) goes, and I'm pretty sure there's supposed to be more than two S's. Basically my problem is trying to figure out how to connect everything. I can probably label them just fine, but figuring out at which points I'm supposed to connect them to each other gets tricky for me.

                  Thanks for trying though D:

Hate to double post but I've got a project here that I'll be needing you kind-hearted individuals' help with. This is for my Occupational Folklife Project, which is worth 30% of my Folklore and Folklife class grade.

For this project, I will conduct a fieldwork-based case study of an occupational folk group of my choice. If I prefer, I can choose a hobby-based skill or interest group (e.g., a sports team; a math club; an online gaming community), as opposed to a group based on paid employment. There are various options for conducting my fieldwork for this project, including observation, participant observation, group and/or individual interviews, etc. At minimum, I am required to conduct one recorded interview of at least twenty minutes' duration with a current or former member(s) of my chosen group.

I'm looking for the informally learned, unofficial knowledge and practices that exist within the work culture of my chosen group (as opposed to the formally learned, official knowledge and practices encoded in organizational mission statements, company policies, training manuals, disciplinary procedures, formal hierarchies, etc.)
This knowledge and these practices should be expressed creatively. The easiest way to think about this is to think in terms of genres, such as nicknames, jokes, gossip, narratives, pranks, customs, initiation rituals, material objects, unofficial ways of performing a particular task, etc. Every time we perform any of these genres we're essentially demonstrating our artistic competence - or lack thereof! - as members of our occupational folk group. Either way, we're judged on our performance by our peers according to a set of informally held cultural standards. This is the informal canon of work technique.
This knowledge and these practices should be shared through an interactive, dynamic process. In other words, it's not enough simply to list a whole bunch of examples of the various genres, or "texts," from my chosen workplace. I also need to take into account their role within the wider cultural context of the group, and consider what the stories, jokes, etc., have to tell us about the values, attitudes, code of conduct, and interrelationships of its members. Why do they perform these things? What do they mean? What do they have to tell us about how the workers themselves (not management or head office) define their work, position themselves within the organization, and evaluate what makes a good or a bad worker?

So as you guys might have guessed by now, the group I've chosen is you, AoW. From now until October 18, I will be studying everything listed above ^ in this Role-Playing community. There is no need for you guys to do anything different--in fact, I'll need you guys to carry on naturally. The only thing I'll need are interviews. 20 minute long interviews. And that's where you come in! It would be greatly appreciated if anyone would be willing to go on a verbally recorded interview with me, in which I will ask you about topics such as "relationships between each other", "initiation/leaving rituals", "traditions", "habits", "nicknames given to each other", "why Eko decided to take a Folklore class in the first place", and other culture things. I'd be happy to go on interviews with a collective few of you so I can see which one will work the best. If you do decide to help a poor fellow out, I'll have you electronically fill out a consent form and we can set up a time to start from there. I'd prefer if we did this at least 4 days before the 18th though, since I need to write a 4-8 page paper on this as well.

                    So? Any takers?
Please say yes, my grade is on the line here SL
Yes, this means you'll actually get to hear me speak.

[EDIT: Oh yeah, I suppose I'm ethically obligated to show you all the essay when I finish since I am doing the report on you guys and all..but then I dunno, it could be jarring..]

Alright you guys, it's time for me to buckle down and really hop to this. Especially considering how I just found out that the paper actually has to be 8-12 pages. Last class my professor presented us with another option--I can choose to have the interview done in a group setting, meaning all of you will be interviewed at the same time. Now the benefit to this would be that we could get more discussions and thoughts rolling. However, the downside would be that there might be a lot more interruptions and conversation could steer out of topic. Considering those, would you guys prefer to do a group interview instead or one-on-one? Also, Saturday (tomorrow) is open for me, so if you guys are able to come on then, that'd be great. Days after that I might be able to, but tomorrow is really the best.

                            I know, I know, it's last minute
