  • Remember Remember...

Nostalgia is an interesting word. "A sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations." Now it may not seem that interesting to you, but I think it is. I'm thankful for the fact that there is a word that stands for all those feelings I get when I think of things before. That way I don't have to say I don't know how to explain how I'm feeling. Nostalgia.

Age of War has gone through a few changes in its period of existence. Now, if you're like me you've lived through each of those periods and probably have fond memories of each of them. Starting with ProBoards and the first generation, there are things I remember fondly. The Shoutbox Flooded! thread. A place where people count build up incredible amounts of posts and ninja each other without being frowned upon. So many jokes and random/awkward things going on in that place. The Riddles thread, where we could test each other's intellect with small riddles that were interesting and eventful. Not to mention making certain users feel less than smart because they couldn't solve simple things. Zelda Nuts, introducing the site to Xats and Falc's programming abilities. Not to mention I got to be an admin on that site.

The Zetaboards site. A second home for our lovely community and RP. Holding a party for our RP Characters and watching Rose slap a certain someone. Rescuing Rose, and then Rescuing Rose again. Gerrard betraying their kin and going dark side because he is evil. Our infamous store where everyone could jump in and sell stuff whenever. I especially remember MidS selling a lot of, well, interesting consumable items. It was fun seeing everyone being able to contribute to something that everyone had access to. Of course I should mention Xats, a chat that for a long time held all of our exciting and awkward and, more often than not, pervy chats. The origin of so many things almost everyone in our site family appreciated and love, and after a while became a tradition and trademark, like CapitalDColonitis which allowed us to show our emotions in a fun way that didn't always mean being sad. Not to mention talking without worrying about how much it was and the others commenting every now and then with things that made you laugh.

Of course there are a lot more memories I'm fond of from the past, but these are the ones off the top of my head.

So I made this thread so you could tell us what you most liked about the old sites. What made them special for you? What memories still make you laugh? What do you miss about them? Anything you can think of. This is a place where you can all say anything you want about the old sites, even mention some of the bad things but try to keep it good. Maybe a bad thing that made it good? It's up to you. Be sure to comment on what others say. Maybe you share memories with someone that you would some day want to recreate? Just think about anything you can.

"We must welcome the future, remembering that soon it will be the past; and we must respect the past, remembering that it was once all that was humanly possible." -George Santayana

Well, I feel like I missed a lot because I wasn't there for the later part of Proboards, when everyone got to know each other. I only knew three people when I came back on ZetaBoards. I felt and I still feel sorta like a member who joined during the Zetaboards era because I feel like I wasn't there for Proboards but in reality, I had joined in the Proboards era.

Anyways, on a lighter note, I do have some good stuff to share. I have a very fond memory of Xats, the chat that has countless memories and where I got to know everybody who joined after I left Proboards. My earliest memory is the short lived rivalry between Elliot and my second character, Jon. I also remember being more talkative about Sonic, who will always be one of my heroes (sorry for sounding lame and stuff but you know it's true). I remember when Jacob met Odin, too. Man, that went a long way. I remember being more addicted to Pokémon, which I've almost grown out of now. And I also remember all those nights where it was just me and HBC having an awkward conversation (until I started teaching her about Sonic of course) because everyone else didn't want to be on. By the way, thanks for not being there person reading this if you're not HBC. I kid guys, I hold no (major) grudge against you guys not be on. Did I mentioned how I remember Falc never being there? Yes Falc, I still think that you weren't there and your memories are mostly from Proboards. We are not debating this anymore, because I want to believe what I want to believe (Gosh, I'm really suffering because I can't use a certain smiley here). But anyway, being the second member of Age of War (not counting the original admins), I've seen this site grow, I've seen it prosper and I've seen it go through tough times. In the end, I am proud of how this site has grown, and while I would personally make some fixes about stuff (don't ask me Kairu it's not that important and our conversation would probably end in a heated fight), I think Age of War is one of the best sites I've been on. While Crunchyroll (http://www.crunchyroll.com/), the first forum I joined, will always hold a special place in my heart, it's a 7/10 if Age of War was 10, and I still definitely prefer Age of War.

Also, on a side note, I am looking forward to Age of War's 2nd Birthday, because I wasn't here for the first. Someone better be working on a Project X type thing or else I'm going to have serious issues with all of you.

(Z I've been thinking I could write a story that has AoW members as characters :3 )

I've not been here as long as some(In fact, my one-year anniversary is fast approaching, if it hasn't already passed), but in that time I've really grown to enjoy it here. Let me start at the beginning.

Back when I joined, I was only on the shoutbox most of the time. I had one character, and he didn't fit in well. The shoutbox was really great. Mondays were usually pretty bad for me, and I always was alone on Monday nights, so sitting through school and knowing that I could come home that night and chat on the shoutbox was a saving grace. Sometimes it was what kept me going through the day.

      TRANSITION to VB.

I started to get much more involved here, and it sort of gave me what felt like a purpose in life. I built up to eight characters, I've been trying to come up with ways to better the site, and I've even (Tried to) start moderating the Arena with falc.

Overall, AoW has changed my life in ways that no other site could, and I can't thank you all enough for that.
So I'm back, or at least I will be eventually. Trying to reintegrate myself.
My 3DS Friend Code is 3437-3052-8998. I'm usually playing the MH4U demo or MH4U(When it comes out), but I'd also be down for 3DS Smash Bros.
(Note to self: The hex code is #d98fef, so don't forget it)
