Warning: If you would rather stay uninformed about the new Smash Bros. game, don't read this thread.
So, I've been watching Nintendo at E3 (which started this week), and I've seen a fair amount of Super Smash Bros content. I will share what I have learned, because I know most of you haven't been keeping track but still want to know.
Characters that have been confirmed so far:
-Mario
-Link
-Pikachu
-Fox
-Donkey Kong
-Peach
-Zelda
-Sheik (Separate from Zelda, if I recall correctly)
-Mii Fighters [Sword, Blaster, Hand-to-Hand (newcomer)]
-Ike
-Charizard (on his own)
-Greninja (newcomer)
-Yoshi
-Rosalina and Luma (newcomer)
-Palutena (newcomer)
-Pit
-Sonic
-Samus
-Zero Suit Samus (Separate from Samus)
-Little Mac (newcomer)
-Toon Link
-Luigi
-Pikmin & Olimar
-Wii Fit Trainer (newcomer)
-Mega Man (newcomer)
-Bowser
-Luigi
-Marth
-Kirby
-Lucario
-Diddy Kong
-Pac-Man (newcomer)
-King Dedede
I might have missed a few, but whatever. Let's take note of the fighters from Brawl who haven't been confirmed for this game yet:
-Ness
-Lucas
-Ganondorf
-Captain Falcon
-Jigglypuff
-Pokemon Trainer (Being replaced by Charizard)
-Falco
-Wolf
-Meta Knight
-Wario
-Mr. Game & Watch
-Ice Climbers
-R.O.B.
-Snake
I think the new game's roster is looking pretty solid so far. Having Pac-Man, Mega Man, Sonic, and Mario is going to be fantastic, especially for those who grew up when video games were becoming mainstream. Having seen some gameplay myself, I'm really excited for Little Mac and Greninja. They seem pretty powerful, and Little Mac might replace Mario as my main. The people from Nintendo keep saying that they're anxious for when people master Rosalina & Luma, but I'm not quite sure if they'll be powerful or if they'll be the replacement for the Ice Climbers (who weren't that bad, actually). I'm glad Meta Knight hasn't been confirmed yet, because he was very cheap in Brawl. I only use him when I need a good computer to practice against. Even then, I find Falco (who hasn't been confirmed either) as more of a threat.
For those of you looking forward to the return of wave-dashing, I have some bad news. This game is practically Brawl 2.0, so wave-dashing is out. I myself never really understood what was so great about wave-dashing, so if anybody knows, please explain to me.
On Monday, Nintendo held the Super Smash Bros Invitational Tournament, and a contestant by the name of ZeRo barely won with Zero Suit Samus against his opponent HungryBox, playing as Kirby. Zero Suit Samus is pretty balanced until you bring in her Final Smash. Then, she becomes the most OP character in the game. Think Snake's Final Smash from Brawl, but with faster firing rate, and lasers replacing the grenade launcher. It's also worth mentioning ZeRo only won by dodging HungryBox long enough for Sudden Death to start, where he got a lucky hit. HungryBox definitely should've won.
Now, I will talk about the newcomers I've seen in action thus far.
Greninja: He's a lot like Lucario, but with less power and more speed. Don't worry, he doesn't have the same moveset. I will admit, I wasn't paying much attention to this one, but I have a feeling he will be a fan favorite. He's not cheap, but he isn't weak either.
Wii Fit Trainer: This one is potentially dangerous. She's got moves, and it is embarrassing when she beats you. While Nintendo is anxious for people to learn how to use Rosalina & Luma, I'm anxious for people to learn Wii Fit Trainer. This character will certainly be a menace.
Rosalina & Luma: Think Ice Climbers, but the second Ice Climber mimics your attacks better and blocks projectiles. I can see why Nintendo would be anxious about this character, but I'm not so sure they're that great. If you were somewhat good with the Ice Climbers, consider checking these guys out. Even though I was pretty skilled with the Ice Climbers once upon a time, I think I'm going to stay away from this character.
Mega Man: Good news! He is not a rip-off of Samus. While there are some similarities, I find he's more like the form of Mario with the moves of Snake...it's not as bad as it sounds, trust me. The person playing Mega Man in the tournament didn't do so well, but I can imagine people wiping the floor while using Mega Man. I will definitely give him a try.
Sadly, the other newcomers are not in the E3 demo, so I haven't been able to see them in action. However, I think Pac-Man will turn out to be a pretty good character.
I would talk about stages and the 3DS Smash Run mode, but from what I recall, the stages in the demo aren't that special (except for the Skyloft one), and I haven't seen enough of Smash Run.
Most of the gameplay has been from the WiiU version, and I have to say, it looks pretty dang impressive. The 3DS graphics are good for a handheld, but I don't like the outline that all the characters have. I think the WiiU version will be better, but more people will get the 3DS version.
If you're blanking out on a response, here are some questions to help you think:
What do you guys think of the characters?
Which newcomers do you think will be cool?
What characters do you want to be confirmed?
What characters do you want to stay out?
How will the WiiU version do compared to the 3DS version?
Which version will you get?
