  • What if Nintendo Went Bankrupt?

What do you guys think would happen to The Legend of Zelda (TLoZ) franchise if Nintendo went bankrupt? Where to you think TLoZ would end up? Would Microsoft or Sony buy up the rights?

I am curious to know what you guys think?

Even if you don't believe for a second that Nintendo could go under, I want you to at least speculate on what would happen.

I remember reading back when the 3DS wasn't selling well, the situation was pretty dire...

But I think it would almost be interesting. It would be something of a corporate war-Sony, Microsoft, perhaps even Ubisoft or Activison, EA, Capcom, you name it. They'd be fighting to snap up the rights(and maybe even designers) to score the big names. If Sony, for instance, acquired Super Mario or Zelda, they could perhaps use it as leverage to increase system sales.

It would be quite the ordeal, I think(Like typing that post with an iPod).
So I'm back, or at least I will be eventually. Trying to reintegrate myself.
My 3DS Friend Code is 3437-3052-8998. I'm usually playing the MH4U demo or MH4U(When it comes out), but I'd also be down for 3DS Smash Bros.

Well, it would be a great loss if Nintendo went bankrupt, but I would still have games to play. I'm not saying I wouldn't be sad or anything, I'm just saying it wouldn't be a total loss for me. I definitely think someone would try to buy the rights, which would be great because if Nintendo couldn't make the games any more, someone else could keep making them. However, I would get extremely mad if they turned it into a first person shooter.

Very interesting topic, NC. You get invisible points for originality.

Considering how popular the Mario and Zelda series are I would not doubt it one bit that companies like Sony, Microsoft, and Ubisoft would attempt to buy the rights. To be truthful if I had to choose a company to buy out the rights to zelda I would choose Capcom since they do have past experience with the if Zelda games such as the oracles and minish cap.

Of course, some of Nintendo's IPs may very well go to their (co owners? Is that the right term?). For instance, the Pokemon games, while published by Nintendo, are developed by Game Freak and the rights may very well actually belong to The Pokemon Company(Do not take my word on this). I believe that the Donkey Kong games, while PUBLISHED by Nintendo, are developed by Rare and I believe the rights for them belong to RARE(Again, DO NOT take my word on this.). So while some IPs(Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Starfox, F-Zero, etc.) would be up for grabs, I believe some would not.

You are right BC...if the publisher (Nintendo) vanished, then developers would hold onto the rights. I remember a reason similar to this is why Goldeneye never came to the Xbox Live Arcade.

              Back on topic:

Interesting thoughts. So if you guys had to pick Xbox, Playstation, or multi-platform to carry the banner of Mario, TLoZ, etc...who would you pick?

Personally...I would go multiplatform. Why? Even though I am an Xbox kind of guy myself, I feel that Multiplatform would serve the best interest of the end consumer. Not to mention...with the stronger architecture behind the Xbox and Playstation...could you imagine TLoZ if it looked like...I dunno...Skyrim?

I would choose to buy from Sony if it was available on there, I have never liked Microsoft and I just prefer Sony over them.

If they tried to change TLoZ to fit more "mature" audiences I would be very disappointed yes change is fine but making it a blood and gore game is not what Zelda was meant to be. Not saying Skyrim is bad, in fact it is a very good game, but they are two different series.

LOL Falcon...could you imagine if TLoZ turned into this game where you are hacking heads off left, right, and center.

                  Those chickens better run...

I'd go with multi platform. While my dad does work at Microsoft and I have an XBOX, I don't have the guts to take away Zelda/Mario/etc from you guys.

I truthfully would prefer those games to remain as a classic, and just stop. I wouldn't like to see anyone else do the games but Nintendo!

I don't really remember...not Internet Explorer, operating systems, or XBOX....but as Kairu would say, WE NEED TO STAY ON TOPIC. (Not mad by the way, just saying that we need to stay on topic.)
