Entry 1. The end of Innocence

I walk through the fields of the countryside with my fellow soldiers, my sword at my side. I hear the shouts of commands ahead. I'm getting excited as this is my first battle. we get to the field and draw my sword and shield. we come to a stop and wait as the enemy reaches position. I hear the captain yell the command for us to take position then Charge. Everyone yells and rushes foreword but the regiment leader tells us to stay in place. eventually the command is given to mobilize and we run into the fray. as I approach my position I hear the magic energy flying. I hear screams of comrades and enemy alike, falling dead. I thought I stop dead. I see people lying dead on the ground. there's blood everywhere, my friends are dead. I realize that this isn't what I thought it was. I hear a yell and see someone rushing at me with hands covered in a magic flame. I raise my shield, not realizing that its happening. I thrust my sword and feel it hit it's mark. The Insane grin disappears as he slumps and falls off my sword, dead. What have I done. I've taken a life. I fall and scream. I didn't think that this would happen. I feel a blow come from behind and the world goes dark.
My last thought is this: Why?

I stood in the icy rain, the dark hood over my head feebly attempting to protect me from the downpour. It wasn't helping, although, as the cloth merely wore down, although it did help me hide in the night. I stood in an out clove of trees, hidden from sight, staring down my target, keeping watch at a small campsite a few hundred yards away. I had to make my move soon, the moon couldn't get too far ahead or it would be easier for me to be seen. I slowly crept my way from cover to cover, staying a little bit at each one to make sure I wasn't seen. I quickly realized that the puddles formed in the ground made a sound, so I made note to stay even more quiet. As I approached within 50 feet of my target, I slowly unveiled by daggers from under my wet cloak. I was miserable, the weather was horrible, but the rain at least would help mask me. I crept behind the target, 40 feet...30...20...10...5...4...2... the man quickly turned around and slashed his sword. I was caught unawares but still managed to block it ****! I am caught! I thought to myself. This is not how it was planned, neither my client nor my boss would be happy. But I still had to get my job done, so I then went on the offensive immediately my speedy daggers getting the man on the defensive. I quickly slashed and caught him under the rib, hearing the crunch of my dagger hitting bone and the groan of the man in pain. I smiled with pleasure, and unwisely let my guard down
I felt a sharp pain on my torso, and looked down to see a sword embedded in me, and looked up again to see the man grinning in pleasure.
I had failed, I was dead and my victim was not

What is waking up, anyway? I know I was asleep, and I know now I'm not, but if I don't think this is real anyway, am I awake? I look around the room with its smooth white walls and pearly floors and I'm disgusted. I am disgusted because where am I and what am I doing here? It is not often I find myself here. I remember being at a campfire, and I remember the lake, and the clouds so large and fluffy. Not white, like this room. I've never liked white anyway. There's a frame by my bed. I can't reach it. Somehow I can't move my arm. I did move it that night, I think. When I reached over to caress her face. I think. Why can't I move it now? And my head, it feels stuck to the pillow. There's something here, holding me. The frame looks ornamented and brightly colored. But there's no picture in it. Her face, that's a picture in my mind. The red cherry lips, or the crystalline green eyes. Why isn't the picture in the frame? That night by the lake, what is it that happened? It hurts to remember, almost like a knife in my back is keeping me from it. My back, where is it? Why can't I feel it? A knife. The knife. She didn't like it when the knife came flying out of the bag. Was I trying to impress her with my tricks? I don't even remember my tricks. But I can't move anyway. What happened then? A man comes in. He's a doctor, I know because I was a doctor. I think. Maybe? He isn't happy, not at all. What do you mean paralytic? She tried to get away, apparently. She stabbed me. I don't understand why, but then the cops come in after the doctor with their fancy notepads and their impenetrable sunglasses. Yes, she got away. I remember now. But why did she try to run in the first place? I guess she didn't like my knife tricks. It isn't my fault, after all, just another lonely amnesiac, that the tricks involved her. The crimson color only makes the trick look cooler. And what better place to get blood than from the throat? She didn't like that, that must be it. I can't remember, but surely it didn't warrant some stabbing. It was only a little blood, after all. I think.

He stared at the journal in his hand, stunned by what he had just read. His father had been scared when they met. Scared of being rejected. After all, he'd had problems with being rejected before, why would the son he didn't even know he had, accept him now, after all those years? And to think, the joy he'd had, even though he hadn't shown it, when he had been accepted. Not only that, his son had warmed up to him, until they were close friends. Except one thing still stood in the way. His secrets. Throughout his long life, he couldn't help but keep secrets. Oh, after his curse, he had no problems, the events of his life seemed meaningless, empty. All the adventures he had were just a means to pass the time, in truth. But his time before that curse. Ah, those were the events that he kept hidden, the ones that seemed to constantly place a barrier between them. Even as he wrote this entry in the journal, he remembered those losses, and feared Joshua would be one of them. "Well, Dad. You were wrong about that, at least," he said aloud. No one answered, of course, it was an empty room. He stood and took the journal back to where the others were stored and carefully set it back in its place. "Even after all these years, it was never me who left. You kept trying to push me away from fear, and now I understand why. I hope we'll see each other again, so we can talk about it. So we can finally speak without any secrets." Then he closed the door, hiding the journals once more.

I stand in my aunt's living room. I swear the woman is Insane as there are cats. Everywhere. a good 20 or 30... actually that may be an overstatement. there was only like 7 or 8. It's a pretty bad day and I'm bored, so I decide to come up with a game. get the cat's in the basement. I don my green Link hat and grab the nearest cat toy. the bell draws the attention and I move the string around until they all follow it with their gaze. It's somewhat creepy actually... Anyway, as i was saying. I step behind the door and dangle the string on the floor until I hear the entire group coming. I pull the toy up in time before the herd reaches it. the whole group of cats jumps nearly simultaneously and there's a wave of cats slipping and colliding into each other on the Tile of the dining room. I'm to overcome by shock and my own laughter to continue. I just fall on the floor laughing my face of.

I can see the memories flowing through the eddies, and the solid milestones as literal stones at the bottom of the stream. I'm dead now, as it seems, and I've been treated on a journey across the River of Time. We started with a bright flash of light, my birth, and I can see the river growing brighter as the world around the canoe grows dimmer. The howling song that welcomed me to the earth faded and the Indians' music takes over. I can see my first hunt, the times I was shunned from the pack, and when we howled together to welcome wolves, and say farewell to wolves. I can see my siblings growing older, my mother dying, and the Indian Chief passing on his heritage as he too died. The river is now at it's brightest, the world around me at it's dimmest, and, the boat is gone. I can hear the howling of wolves, and the cycle repeats.

We had finally found life.
Traveling through the stars was a lonely endeavor, but it is one I had dreamed about since I had hatched out of my ott and saw the world through my eyes. The opportunity to find life in the universe, it was something exciting. Of course, we have found simple life forms, small enough that we had to use a Nyuslecseko to find them. But nothing big, that is until we received the magnetic waves from Psi Velorum. It could be another natural phenomenon, or it could be life.
We were thrilled to find that the planet was practically teeming in life, covered in quugol, or as the humans seemed to call it, water. We camped inside of their solar orbit, among their outer planets, and soaked in the waves. Priority one was to learn their method of thinking, of communicating. We delved ourselves into the waves, translating them using our gosemereti. There were too many dialects to learn quickly, so we simply focused on three, they called themselves "English", "普通话" and "Hindustani." It took us around 3 rotations to complete this project, but I enjoyed it.
Once this was done, it was time to slowly approach. The intensity of the waves got stronger and stronger as we got close, until we had to shut down our communications until we got a little closer. It was then, in hopefully perfect English, that we introduced ourselves through the magnetic waves they loved.
The small creatures, who called themselves "humans" but I enjoy calling them "fanums", seemed to panic on the other side. They didn't exactly expect us to be here, as our ship was hidden from their sight. Our ship slowly ascended, we had long before decided to land in the land that called themselves "The United States of America", because we were most comfortable with our English in terms of speaking. And we had deciphered that the language was also the most common one used in keryugysc.
We had seen their physical forms before, through the video communications they called "television", but it was different in real life. We stepped out with our ulchlekejur bodies, filled with protective gear, as the atmosphere was venomous to us, our bodies they seemed to call "arthropodal." We saw them, they consisted mostly of light hued fanums with a few dark skinned ones. An envoy of them walked up to me and my companions, with stiff mospc, and said "hello."
A conversation then happened, mostly filled with varausyg, just to pass the time. But, in reality, we were evaluating them. Their pale faces, they were nervous, but so were we.
Upon questions about our society and home planet we revealed little except for the name of our species, Tukermorane, and the name of our Home World, Vufass. Stories about society could wait for another time, assuming that these relations continue in good form.
We slowly shifted back to our ship, and got out of range from the planet, happy.
It was time to get back in communications with Home Planet, we had finally found our new race of slaves, and this time they were finally intelligent.

I grabbed the fortune cookie, and looked at it. I didn't quite remember when I had my first, but I know really liked them in my childhood. Now, they weren't so great. Most of the time, they just gave meaningful sounding fortunes that didn't affect anything. I suspected it would be the same this time.

I broke the cookie in half, and took out the fortune. I used to eat the cookie, but its taste just didn't satisfy me. Then I read the fortune.

Your life is in danger. Say nothing to anyone. You must leave the city immediately and never return. Repeat: say nothing.

I looked up at my parents, who were talking about something in Spanish. What was restricting me from telling them? It was just another dumb fortune, right? But....it felt different. Like my life was actually in danger. Then, without thinking, I got up, and ran. I had to slow down a little to dodge the tables, but I got of the restaurant without hurting myself. I didn't understand why I was running. I just was. As I ran in the cold, dark night, I started to see things. Everytime I would run under the light of a lamp post, I would see something in the distance. At first it was a small animal. Then someone crouching. Then someone standing.

I had run about three miles when I stopped. I was tired after my run, and I needed to fall down. Luckily for me, there was a bench. I sat down, and examined my surroundings. I was on a road that nobody used that much, a forest to the left of anybody going west. About 300 yards to my right, there was a gas station. It was all lit up, but nobody seemed to be there. I had my wallet with me, so I went over to the gas station to buy some water.

I took this time to think about what I had done. I read the fortune, and I ran. Why did I run? Anybody with common sense wouldn't even think about doing that. But that fortune...it really bothered me. As I've said, I usually don't think fortunes mean anything, but that fortune was different. It wasn't any just any fortune someone typed up for someone to randomly get. That fortune was meant for me. But why was my life in danger?

As I entered the gas station's store, I saw that nobody was there.

"Hello?" I called out, hoping to get a response. However, the only thing that answered me was silence. It was weird. This place was all lit up, but nobody was there. I walked back outside, and looked down the road in both directions. Nobody was coming, and I couldn't hear the sound of cars nearby. It was then I realized that if I had run three miles from the restaurant in any direction, I wouldn't be here. This had to be a dream or something.

I looked at my left arm, and pinched it. Didn't wake up. I tried again. Didn't wake up. I slapped myself. Didn't wake up. It was here I realized that something was breathing heavily on my neck. But my back was to the gas station, and nobody had been there. I turned my head, then jumped away when I saw what was behind me.

It was me.

"Welcome." The other me said, not moving except for his mouth. "We have been expecting your arrival."

Before I could say anything, I fell onto my knees. I was suddenly feeling very weak. I struggled to keep my eyes open, but I fell over, and blacked out.

My eyes were burned by screaming whiteness as I opened them. It took a while to adjust, but once they had I immediately realized where I was. In the back seat of my dad's car. He was driving, my mother sitting in the passenger seat. I looked around in confusion. I didn't remember anything about why I was in the car, where we were going, or even what happened the night before. Then my mother's eyes locked with mine in the rear view mirror. "You're finally awake," she said, but her tone didn't sound too pleased. "We need to talk."

We got off a bridge and parked off the side of the highway at a rest stop. "What got into you last night?" my dad asked, also not sounding so happy. I sat there, more confused than ever, still having no success in recalling last night.

"What are you talking about?" I asked. I was dying to know what was up, though I knew I wouldn't like what was coming.

"What do you mean?" my dad made me sound like I was crazy. "You don't remember storming out of the restaurant?"

"I honestly have no clue what is going on," I responded.

"You just left and ran down the street like a lunatic," my dad continued, with an increasingly aggravated tone. "I was chasing you down, and then you disappeared behind a building. Next thing you know a police man calls us and says he has you in his car, and that you were completely blacked out by a gas station. Then he says he found something in your pocket."

"What?" I mumbled, starting to freak out on the inside.

"He found a bag of mushrooms in your pocket," my dad broke to me. "He could tell you were tripping. Hard. The cashier told him you got startled by nothing and just fainted right there."

"When did our son start doing these terrible things?" my mom chimed in, with a hint of sadness in her voice. "Where did you even get them?"

"I..." I cut my sentence short as I finally remembered something from the day before. After school, I tried eating some shrooms with my friends. They didn't do anything, and I left to go home. My parents took me out to dinner with pretty much no warning, and the whole time I was trying to fight the shrooms from kicking in. I must have not been able to keep it under control. "I didn't even know I had those." I said, playing stupid.

"You're telling me you don't remember a thing from yesterday?" my dad asked. "Don't play like this with us, son. Keep lying and things will get much worse."

"I'm serious," I kept lying. I couldn't let my parents think I was such a bad kid. That's really not what I was like. "Maybe someone drugged me." I desperately attempted to make my parents think differently.

"Yeah, someone just put some mushrooms in your mouth and left them in your pocket," my dad responded with sarcasm. "Well, take all the time you want for the truth to come out. You're coming straight home from school every day, and we might have to get you some counseling if you keep acting like this. When we get home, you're going right to your room, and that's where you'll be staying when you're not at school."

"Well..." I couldn't keep trying, and let out a curse. I had never been a clever talker, and I clearly wasn't sneaky enough to pull off anything my parents didn't approve of. I dropped my head back and closed my eyes. This was going to be a hard couple of weeks.

(I know this isn't quite how the game works, but figured it'd be fun. And nice job creating this Falc, it's about time something like it showed up here.)

A Caribbean trip? For us? It sounded perfect. My parents had been saving up for years for this, and as you might expect, I was excited. The cruise, the women, the sun, the food, I thought it'd be heaven on earth. I spent months simply waiting, ticking off the days. It seemed so distant, and so foreign. Suddenly, summer was here, full of fun trips to the pool and adventures late at night. But in the back of my mind I still waited, and then the day was here.

Waking up early, we still had the long car trip down to the coast to look forward to. I sat in the back seat, listening to the hum of the vehicle, the roar of the engine, excitement as in the air. We were finally here, we stepped out onto the beach, the cruise ship in the distance, the salty smell of the sea in the air. Hot sand underfoot, as we trudged our heavy luggage over to the ship. I heard the sound of seagulls as I happily made it past the security onto the ship. After a short wait for the rest of the passengers it sailed away, towards new adventures.

-72 hours later-
I hate this, I absolutely hate this. I never thought I could despise a cruise ship this much. I thought this would be fun, I thought I would have some semblance of freedom. But instead I am being dragged around like a dog to participate in the boring stuff, like curling tournaments. I am also required to be kept an eye on 24/7, no chance of fun for me. But, I planned to have fun, as we were going to stop by Trinidad and Tobago for a small little tour, it was my time to escape.

Escaping the tour group was easy, they were easy going and forgot people easily, and I escaped into a small village. I knew that the cruise ship was set to ship out in only 6 hours, so I had plenty of time. The next while was a dream, I had my small supply of money and mostly used it to buy a small trinket and some local food. I think glanced down at my watch to see the time, only to see it was gone.

Panic, I panicked. What time was it? I decided to play it safe and trek back to the ship. I took a right, then a left, then across the street, then another right, and I should be here. I looked out across the ocean to see a cruise ship, far in the distance leaving. I kicked the sand in anger, I was in big trouble now, and it was getting dark. I had no money left, I had wasted it all, and I had no way of communicating, I was screwed.

Dredging up old topics ftw!

It all started, one fateful afternoon, around mail time. There came one knock at the door, and something came through our mail slot. It was a rose, and as I stepped down to pick up the plant, my wife walked in. "Mail?" She inquired. "Um, yes!" I replied, for it was mail, but I had not received anything of the sort before. A few minutes later there came a rhythmic knock at the door, and actual mail came through the slot.

Although the gift was puzzling, I didn't dwell on it, and I soon discarded the rose. About a week later, I was reading the newspaper, something about a dead florist? Anyhow, there I was reading the newspaper, when just out of the blue, there came two knocks on the door, and in through the mail slot came a roll of film. I got up and opened the door, but I knew I was to late. I picked the film up, and brought it over to my computer desk, at which point I set it down, with every intention of looking at it later. I could never find anything to watch it with though, I came to wonder if it wasn't some sort of illegal ****ography. Of course I kept it anyways, I didn't know why.

One week later, there I was sitting down and reading the paper. I believe it was an article on why a movie had suddenly gotten a setback. There came, three knocks at the door. A disk came through, it was some local town pop star's new album, and once again the giver had disappeared. Many months went by and the knocks went from three to four, and from four to five, and before I knew it there came twenty knocks on the door. The gifts varied from coins, to bullets, but this one stuck out in my mind.

There was a piece of parchment, wrapped around something. Upon further inspection, the parchment had a hand written note on it, and it was wrapped around a knife. The knife was a stainless steel kitchen knife, the blade alone was twice the size of my hand, and coated with blood. It was about this time, my wife walked into the room and screamed. She knew about the gifts, and she wanted to call the police but I had insisted we'd be fine. We called the police after this, they confiscated everything, and it must have looked quite suspicious, but they said they couldn't do anything. "Something special, for someone special, a heart of gold." the note had said. My wife went away on a vacation that week, she needed to get away, but I stayed. I was going to catch that guy this time, you don't just do crap like this in broad daylight. There were no knocks, just a object that slowly squeezed it's way through the slot. I looked on in horror and fascination. The object was golden, it had tubes going everywhere, and... Oh God... It was... It was a heart. A human heart, painted gold. I was in sheer and utter shock, I knew in the back of my mind what had happened, but I didn't want to admit it. I called my wife, the phone rang, and rang, before I was pushed through to voicemail. That's when I hear the recording, she didn't ask me to leave a message after the beep.

It was just her beautiful voice as it choked, cracked, cried, sobbed... And screamed.
