THE BOOK: Batman: Vol 3, Death of the family

    Reccomended Age: 12+

Contains: Not sure I would label it explicitly graphic, but the first time you read it you will likely be horrified by the sheer amount of... "creative" deaths (people getting sown together, faces getting cut off, etc.), also mild language, anything serious is censcored by !@#$ tho.

Concept: Bring new 52 batman back after his brilliant night of the owls series.

Story: The joker comes back to gotham after being gone for awhile, to steal his face back and throw a "party" for batman.
In order to do so, he starts kidnapping the Wayne family one by one.

1st Reactions: When I saw the cover with the jacket, I knew I was in for a wild ride. Just the cover implys something sick and twisted, the jacked is jokers face with eyeholes cut into it so you can see batmans eyes underneath on one side, and the jokers on the other. Remove the jacket and you will find that one side is batmans face, and the other is just a bunch of muscle, what someones face would look like if you cut the face off.
Continueing on to the comic book, it, was, brilliant.
The art style perfectly nailed the story style, dark and creepy.
The comic book starts off at police headquarters, with Jim Gordon complaining about how his daughter keeps finding his packages of smokes.
This quickly escalates into the joker breaking into police headquarters and killing 19 officers, all to steal his face wich was apparently cut off by the toymaker a few years back.
Throughout the comic book, nothing realy fazed me as the joker apparently reenacted old crimes he had pulled off, batman had almost no leads, and I was beginning to think that there wasn't going to be much more horrifying content in the book other than the joker himself who walked around with his face sown on.
    Oh boy was I wrong.
As batman finnaly traced it back to arkham asylum, I became fearful to turn the page.
I don't want to spoil it but lemme give you a hint as to what there was in arkham that distgusted ME.
It takes a lot to gross me out, and this did it: Living human being, all sewn together and painted over to for a tapestry.
I didn't understand what it was til I stared at it for a good while.
And the ending, how can I describe it.
It was so deeply satisfying, but it made me want more.
It felt to me almost like the writers were directing the last page right at the reader, like that was their message to me.
    Ha.

    Rating: 9/10

Conclusion: The only reason this does not get 10/10 is because to me, it has no rereadability, once you know all the twists and turns of the plot and what all is going to happen, theres almost no point in reading it again.
All in all, it was a beatifuly horrifying expierence, and is a must buy for any batman fan.
For anyone just starting on the series, while I would recommend the 2 books before it (Night of the owls and whatever the other one was called), thismone is just as good and requires no knowledge of the previous two, theres only one little refrence to them in the whole book
So, if you have the money, buy it now, its well worth the money.
    Crap. I lost my signature!
