  • Reading Survey

I need to write a speech to persuade for my class, and I decide my topic would be reading. I would really appreciate it if you guys could take this survey, and present it to people in your area, whether it's family, friends, co-workers, or even strangers. When you turn in the results, please give me the number of people who answered each way. Please include your state, preferably city as well, when you turn in the results to the survey. You may include your name if you choose. I need this by Friday at the latest! If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Survey-

    Do you enjoy reading? Yes/No

    Do you read often? Yes/No

    If no, why not?

Would you read more if you had the time? Yes/No

Are you the person who says "I'll wait for the movie"? Yes/No

      I gotchu hbc

Do you enjoy reading? Yes (of course there are genres I don't enjoy reading)

      Do you read often? No

If no, why not? Usually I don't take the time to do it because I'm focused on other things, even if I'm not busy.

Would you read more if you had the time? No

Are you the person who says "I'll wait for the movie?" No

That's how I'd answer, it probably seems like my answers don't make sense lol. I haven't shown it to anyone because it would be awkward just giving a survey but I can probably guess how my family would answer if you need more people. Hope you get more results!

Oop forgot to add state-- Massachusetts

Do I enjoy reading? Yes, if I like the book

        Do I read often? No

Why? Partially I can't find time, and partially I see games as just a good vessel of storytelling, plus interactivity

        Would I read more? Likely

No, I don't wait for the movie
So I'm back, or at least I will be eventually. Trying to reintegrate myself.
My 3DS Friend Code is 3437-3052-8998. I'm usually playing the MH4U demo or MH4U(When it comes out), but I'd also be down for 3DS Smash Bros.
(Note to self: The hex code is #d98fef, so don't forget it)

          Q: Do you enjoy reading?
          A: Yes.

          Q: Do you read often?
          A: No.

          Q:If no, why not?
A: My addiction to video games and my computer are far greater than my addiction to books.

Q:Would you read more if you had the time?
          A: Yes.

Are you the person who says "I'll wait for the movie"?
A: Yes (I would say "Sometimes", but that wasn't an option).

SORRY IM LATE I JUST GOT ONTO A PHYSICAL COMPUTER

            Q: Do you enjoy reading?
            A: Yes.

            Q: Do you read often?
            A: No.

            Q:If no, why not?
A: I got bullied for reading in school and on the bus so I just sorta stopped. Now books just dont interest me like they used to, I guess I need a new series like Maximum Ride to get me into it again.

Q:Would you read more if you had the time?
A: I've got the time I'm just not interested.

Are you the person who says "I'll wait for the movie"?
A: No, the book is usually a whole lot better than the movie, and in the case of World War Z, the only thing they share is the title.

              Do you enjoy reading?
saying I enjoy reading would be an understatement

              Do you read often? Yes/No
              No

              If no, why not?
a lot of reasons, work gets in the way a lot, I'm busy writing my own novel, plus normally when I'm not at work I'm busy with my friends.

Would you read more if you had the time?
yes, yes I would..... I would actually be reading non-stop if I had the time

Are you the person who says "I'll wait for the movie"?
only idiots and lazy people say they wait for the movie.

As promised, here's the full speech:

The Gutenberg press opened the door to many of the technological marvels that we have now. Before its invention in 1439, there was very little of what we would call ‘technology’, and we have since seen many things created that had never before been dreamed of. Do you know why the press was first invented? So that people could read the Bible. Doesn’t this show just how much we yearn for the knowledge found in books?
I took a survey on my RP site Age of War, where the members are mostly teenagers across the continent. Based on the results, there are two major reasons my generation doesn’t read: a lack of time, and a lack of interest. One member even said she was bullied for reading in school, hence her hesitation to pick up a book. The other members, mostly male, said that video games take priority and that they’re just as good at telling stories. However, the vast majority of the members surveyed agreed that it is a rare occurrence for the movie to be better than the book.
There are several benefits to reading longer stories. The first is that it exercises your mind by using your imagination to picture the events. According to an article called “Why Reading Is Good For You Brain” posted online at huffpost.com, reading can improve focus and memory, helping to prevent Alzheimer’s and improve grades in school. Another article called “Ask Dr. Paul: Reading To Children Is Very Beneficial” agrees, and also says that reading can improve language and grammar skills, while reading aloud with someone helps with pronunciation. Reading also teaches you good writing form, improving the quality of essays and reports. Another benefit is learning. Whether specifically researching for it or merely gleaning from a story, knowledge can be very easy to obtain from a book.
But these aren’t the actual reasons why people read. No, most people read for the release books offer. Novels and short stories are simply doorways, leading to worlds we can only imagine, each with their own heroes and villains. But that’s the same as movies and video games, you protest. The difference is, you imagine it with a book. Scenes in movies and video games are set as one level of gory or graphic detail, but the book version of the same scene can vary in detail from person to person, often being even more gruesome than visually depicted. Your imagination is more powerful than anything that can yet be depicted on a screen.
People love their video games and movies. With mobile consoles and other devices, they are starting to become easier and easier to access. But the one thing books will always have over them is their availability. You can read a book in the sun, which you can’t do with your phone or tablet. You don’t have to hook it up to a charger, and you don’t have to worry about cracking the screen. All you have to worry about is keeping the pages together, which is an easy task if the book is well made. Books are the same media, and unlike movies and video games, they don’t advance. They can last for centuries and still work. You don’t have to do a system upgrade, or even get a new system to use them. And if an EMP ever strikes, if there is ever a massive blackout, you will always have the option to read as entertainment, but your phone will burn out. Your game system will become outdated. What will you do when your faithful TV rolls over and dies, or your computer crashes? Books will always be there, but you can’t promise that your games and movies will be. The PowerPoint on this very system are out-dated and files might not work on it, but this always will.
Few things compare to the joy of reading. Finding yourself in a new land of another world, or even in a place you already know but are being shown in a new light, is more thrilling than anything I know. Plus, it’s an experience you can re-visit, over and over, even if you’ve already read the scenes so many times you’ve memorized it. Picturing the hero in more glamorous detail than any actor can have fighting a villain more evil-looking than any amount of make-up or lighting can accomplish. That is what I love about reading, and that is the experience I hope any who pick up a good book will enjoy and love.
Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
