  • Are Humans Naturally Good or Bad?

I want to start by saying all Rules from the Serious Topics forum and from the Site in general apply to this thread, and if they were to be broken punishment will be carried out as necessary.
So this is a topic I discussed this past year in my Model UN class. It's fairly simple, per say. Do you think humans are naturally good or naturally bad? For example, say someone is born right this instant. That someone will in 10 years be the FBI's Most Wanted for mass murder and hate crimes. But, right now right this instant in which he was born, do you think he was already bad/evil? Or was he good and something happened that changed him? And the other way around as well. If someone was born today, and in 10 years he turned out to be the person that managed World Peace, would that mean that today when he was born he was already naturally good? Or perhaps he was a bad baby that stole things and broke them, but then something happened and he was redeemed? That's what I want you to tell me.
What is your opinion; are humans naturally good or bad?

I don't think they are naturally either. humans change through events in their lives, I just want to say that I do not believe that a murderer or a rapiest is born, they become what they are. so in the end we become what we are, we are not born good or bad and the only turely innocent are babies and children.

Hear, hear, mids. That's exactly how I feel about it. Parents, school, church, pretty much anything babies and children see, hear, or read while growing up shapes them into what they are now. Of course, their own choices will also affect how they grow up, too.

Yes, I believe that is like my answer was during class. I do not believe anyone is truly bad or good, so no one is born bad or good. For example, maybe you think terrorists that do crimes on behalf of their religion seem bad, but to other people that think the same as them they're perfectly good. My point is that I agree, humans aren't naturally bad or good. Some of the people in my class said,
"What if you put a human with no knowledge of the world in a forest. Alone, no nothing, just his own consciousness to see if he is good or bad. Eventually said person would be drawn to kill an animal in order to find sustenance. Is he bad because of it? If there is someone dying of a horrible sickness. Someone you have never met at all. But suddenly his family comes to you and asks you to give your life up for that person, meaning if you died that person could live. Would you do it? If you said no, would that make you bad?"
That shows that everyone is bad and good in some way. Maybe to that family you're bad for saying no, because their relative is going to die. But maybe that family is bad to your family as well, for thinking that they have a right to ask something like that of someone they've never met. Maybe you don't think you're bad for killing that animal, because you needed it to survive. But you may also seem bad to the other animals.
Again I say, humans aren't naturally good or bad, humans are naturally human.
