Names Nintendo comes up with for all the Zelda games is one thing about Zelda that makes me wonder. Where do the names of characters, enemies, and places in the Zelda world come from? I'm pretty sure some are English versions of Japanese names, but lots probably aren't. I think the games have some European influences too, like the Scandinavian Penninsula, but I'm not sure. Also, what do they mean? They must mean something. So I guess people should just think about Hylian name origins and meanings. I'm sure more questions will come up, and I have a little side-question too. How do you guys come up with roleplay character names? I always stuggle with my character names. For Zulo, I just made some gibberish up that sounded Hylian, and for Donovan it was a European name that meant Dark Warrior or something. Even though he isn't very evil XD

(Umm...I can't really answer your first question, but I can answer your second.)
Well, for my first few characters, Jacob, John(deceased), and David(missing), I just thought of random names. And for my next patch of characters, Elgin(deceased), Wyman(deceased), and Taurean(deceased), I had HBC search names on some site (I don't remember what it's called), tell me the means of them, and then I would pick a name that sounded cool. However, for my third generation of characters, Zebulon, Maxwell, and Gyan, it was a mix. While I worked with HBC again to get the names of Zebulon and I think Gyan (correct me if I'm wrong HBC lol), I just choose randomly like I did with Jacob, John(deceased), and David(deceased) for Maxwell. So (like I more or less said earlier), a mix of what I did for my first and second generation of characters.

(Yes, I think I helped you with Gyan)
I don't know about Nintendo, but I mostly use a baby name site: http://hugs4kids.com/ I just skim through until I find a name meaning that sounds good to me and build a character around it. I enter it into this site: http://www.namegenerator.biz/last-name-generator.php and when I find a last name I like, that's what I put in. I think Sephira and Sarah (now deceased) were the only characters that I didn't skim for. Sarah is a name I sometimes call myself in games like Texas Hold 'em on my GBA. I'm not entirely sure where I got Sephira from, but I think it was after first watching Eragon. I changed it from Saphira and used it in my imaginary adventures, and it kinda stuck.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
Character Tracker, where you can find out about all the characters.

Yeah I use name-meanings.com/ for my character names with meanings.
I was just looking around and I found out that Zelda (Griselda is the original version) is German.
And I also forgot to mention that some Zelda names are obvious pun-name thingies... ahh I don't know what to call em, but what I mean is like Navi (navigation) Tatl/Tael, and some others I can't think of.
And by the way, were Elgin, Wyman and Taurean from the baby name thing? Cuz those are pretty sick names and I don't think anyone would name their baby those nowadays XD Or at least in America...
Pretty intense name generator I just found XD http://rinkworks.com/namegen/Last edited by Peeps; 08-20-2012, 06:15 PM.

I know there's a name database somewhere that lets you search wih an origin parameter(You can search for, say, uni*** names whose meanings contain fire and are of Greek origin, etc.). It generates some sick stuff. So I'm back, or at least I will be eventually. Trying to reintegrate myself.
My 3DS Friend Code is 3437-3052-8998. I'm usually playing the MH4U demo or MH4U(When it comes out), but I'd also be down for 3DS Smash Bros.
(Note to self: The hex code is #d98fef, so don't forget it)
