Ila trekked through the swamp, using her staff to help her through the more treacherous areas. She was looking for ingredients for a few potions from a book Selina had found. She had most of them, either from her own garden or saved from her various voyages across the county, but honey, moss, oak bark, and a few others could only come from the swamp. She'd already found nearly everything, but she was still searching for jasmine to brew a charm for a peaceful home. While her family didn't really need such a charm, she knew the war with Labrynna could spread to influence her family and her city. Already the piles of bodies from war were more numerous than they had been before, and the acolytes busier than ever trying to send the spirits off before they become dissatisfied enough to remain on this plane of existence.
"Why does it have to be so wet," she grumbled, dancing around the edge of a bog. She had grown up in this swamp, chasing her brother through the leaves. As such, she knew where the bogs were, which trees grew where, and where the best hiding places were, so she didn't fall for any of the traps or treacherous footing the woods tried throwing at her. Didn't mean she was happy having to trek through it, though. It was already difficult enough to find the herbs for her soap, she didn't need to bathe more often than necessary.

Tamela worked her way through the bog, empty bottles hanging from her belt. The bog was familiar to her, and while she did not grow up in the area, she spent a lot of her time in the bog, practicing her earth magic where it felt concentrated. She also had a soft spot for the trees in the swamp, who had grown adapted to the mud but still didn't like the constant saturation. She traversed the bog with relative ease, placing her steps carefully as not to fill her boots with mud that would make squishing noises when she stepped.

Ila paused as she heard a clanking noise, frowning as she looked around. Normally she was alone in the swamp, as most didn't want to deal with treacherous surroundings, either from the bogs or the animals inhabiting them, As such, she was used to bird chatter and bug chips. But a clanking noise, as if from hollow jars or bottles hitting against each other, that wasn't a natural sound. That was a sound caused by another human venturing through the swamp. She didn't dare follow the noise, in case she ended up in a bog, but she could do the next best thing to locate her fellow forager. Finding a tree with plenty of branches, she vaulted up, climbing quickly until she was pretty high in the low tree. The height didn't give her much advantage to see, though, given how thick the foliage was. Muttering under her breath, she began to climb back down, allowing some of the thinner branches she climbed past to snap with her frustration. "The one time I hear someone out here, and I can't find them. Might have been able to meet someone sane for a change." Not that anyone traipsing through the swamp could be considered sane, considering the filth.

She was well unaware of the noise her bottles made, becoming accustomed to the sound and not being worried about attracting attention. She stopped for a moment to mull something over, before pulling a piece of parchment from a cloak pocket. Running a finger down the list, she muttered to herself. "Swamp water, cyprus branches, mugwort..." she read. "Jasmine? in a swamp?" she rolled her eyes. "Whatever, I'm sure it'll be on the outskirts of the bog. Worst comes to worst I'll have to conjure it." Tamela folded up the page and tucked it away before continuing on her way, stopping when she heard branches snapping. Confused and a tad concerned, she looked skyward to see another Holodrumian climbing down a tree. "Hello?" she called up to the woman, cupping her hands around her mouth to project her voice.

Upon hearing someone hailing her, Ila let go of the tree, allowing herself to land in a crouch before straightening again. To her surprise, she found herself facing another woman, perhaps a few years older. She seemed fairly average, except for her bright purple hair, and the presence of the bottles. Ila couldn't help flashing a smile. "Don't usually see too many others in the swamp. Too muddy for most, especially ladies." She picked up her staff again, which she had leaned against the tree when she began climbing, and leaned against it, her dark blue eyes dancing even as she took in the full appearance of the other woman.

Her eyes traveled from Ila's boots to her brunette hair, stopping for a moment at her striking eyes. "I'm shopping, in a way, but one would think I would have at least worn a different pair of shoes," Tamela joked, holding out one of her scuffed up boots. "You look like a woman of magic," she gestured to Ila's staff. "could you be here for the same reason I'm here?" she asked.

Ila grinned, rubbing some of the runes of her staff with the thumb of the hand holding it. "Believe so, yes. I'm trying to find some jasmine right now. Don't suppose you happen to have seen any? It's not usually so hard to find." Thinking about it, though, she wondered if the author of the potion book had meant yellow jasmine, which did grow in swamps, or the white jasmine that preferred mountains.

"No, but it's on my shopping list as well." She pulled the parchment from her cloak and glanced over it once more. "I'm sure I can find mugwort here, but I doubt jasmine can be found here. I'm thinking of conjuring it if it doesn't turn up soon." Tamela looked up. "What are you in search of?"

"Conjure?" Ila repeated, frowning. She knew what it meant, of course, she was the eldest daughter in a long line of sorcerers. But there were not many outside of her family that practiced the manipulation of elemental energies, and earth magic tended to be more demanding to summon. Hence her preference to use the physical nature of the element. Granted, for most forms of magic, the external manipulation tended to be less demanding than the internal, but earth was particularly easy to use with external magic. It was also rather interesting, seeing the effects of her concoctions on others. Watching a plant grow, though, under her care, was a reward itself, and she wondered how thrilling it would be to watch a plant grow with her power.

"Conjure!" Tamela grinned. "You speak as though you've never attempted it. You're a magic user, are you not?" Having only met younger witches, she was used to the confusion. Although, it was still fun to tease. "How long have you been working with the earth like ths?" she asked.

Ila shrugged. "Been playing with plants and helping the gardeners since I could walk. I began growing my own garden when I was seven, and started adding plants not native to our little corner of Holodrum. I didn't start looking into the other side of them until my sister developed a taste in books. She's the one who dug up the books of potions and compresses, and showed them to me. It fascinated me enough to begin studying up on it and commenced to travel the country to gather plants myself and learn how the various concoctions worked. And to answer your original question," she continued, "yes, I'm a magic user, and while I attempted once to manipulate plants themselves, I found it overly taxing and far too difficult. Doesn't help that our library is rather incomplete in that area of magic," she added with a laugh, stamping her staff a few times.

"Well, once you get the hang of it, it's not too much of a struggle. The bean plant next to my house actually came from a conjuring exercise. I find it easier to manipulate plants than to conjure them, although I'm sure I've been practicing for longer than you. "How long have you been--" Tamela stopped herself, tilting her head and listening hard. Nearby, some leaves were rustling. She turned to face it, holding her wand tight. "Do you hear that?" She asked, quietly. "I'm not sure if it's an animal or not."

Ila shrugged, appearing nonchalant at the rustling, even as her grip on her staff tightened. "Probably just a Tektite," she said calmly. "They're pretty active in here." Her free hand dropped to her belt, touching the individual pouches until she found the one she wanted. Reaching inside, she pulled out a pinch of the crushed herbs inside and brought it to her lips. She muttered an incantation to it as one of the shiny red Tektites hopped its way from from the foliage and toward them. Swiftly Ila blew the dust at the creature, coating it in the mixture and causing it to stop where it stood. She turned to her companion with a grin. "Iron chain dust," she explained. "Just appears like normal herbs until I speak the incantation. Then it weighs as much as a horse. Won't squash our little friend here, but he'll have a very hard time moving until the spell wears off."

Tamela nodded, legitimately impressed. She didn't work closely with powders, and when she did, she had to be careful because they had magical intent from the moment they were finished. But when Ila made her powder, it was dormant until given a purpose. "Incredible," she breathed, slowly approaching the Tektite and poking it with the tip of her wand. It twitched, but was unable to move enough to attack her. "How long do your powders usually last?" she asked.

"Varies from mixture to mixture," Ila answered with a shrug, "and by how much I use. A pinch like I gave him will only last a half hour, maybe longer, but if I'd used more, I could keep him struggling there for days. Although this mixture increases in strength the more I use, so I'd more likely squash him than keep him rooted." She carefully brushed off the little bit of the dust that remained stuck on her hand onto a tree trunk, knowing it would be able to handle the increased pressure without problem. "We probably should go before more show up though."
