"Right, I've never seen these guys travel alone." She turned back the way she came, but stopped again. There was more rustling coming from behind her, louder this time, and seemingly more aggressive. "Speaking of," Tamela said, turning quickly on her heel. "I think that's the pack right now! Come on, we need to go, she said, grabbing the girl's hand and tugging. With her other hand, she pointed to the ground and then up. Some of the trees' roots grew sharply skyward. It wasn't a tall barrier, but a few Tektites would smack right into them, which would stop the ones behind them. That would likely buy them enough time to get out of the area.

Ila winced as the older woman grabbed her free hand and began pulling her away. Her staff clanked against a few tree trunks before she managed to match her companion's pace and regain control of the staff. She glanced behind her as she heard a few additional collisions, and was surprised to see a wall of roots had sprouted up behind them, tall enough to block the Tektites short jumps. "So that's what you meant by manipulating," she commented somewhat breathlessly. Might want to slow down, though. Otherwise we might attract more attention than just a small swarm of Tektites."

Taking a quick glance behind her, Tamela slowed down and let go of Ila's hand. "Okay, sorry about grabbing your hand like that," she stopped. "I didn't catch your name, actually. I'm Tamela Dodge, resident of Holodrum." She held out her hand in a sort of formal fashion.

"No worries," Ila said, panting some from the brief sprint. She couldn't help feeling amused at the gesture Tamela made, which to her was rather informal, considering her upbringing. So instead of taking the proffered hand, she gave a small curtsy. "I am Lady Ila Isley, daughter to Duke Babur Isley." She bit her tongue after that, not wanting to scare her new friend with her full title, although her family was well-known enough that Tamela would know or at least guess her heritage. After all, the acolytes her family sent out to gather the dead, the Aspro Koraki, were well-known across the country, although not well liked, and derisively called vultures by those who feared them and her family.

"I've heard of your line,"Tamela dropped her arm down to her side rather awkwardly, and offered a small smile. "Is it true that you sell off bits of the dead to necromancers?" She herself didn't prefer working with the dead. Occasionally she would revive a plant which had suffered unfair circumstances, but in her mind, things that died did so for a reason. "I personally am not one for the art, but I have a fair amount of respect for Vulture Culture." She stole a small glance over Ila's shoulder, pleased to see that their magic had stopped the tektite pack from chasing after them.

Ila couldn't help laughing at the old rumor. At some point or another in their history, her family had been accused of either helping necromancers or practicing the art themselves. And considering how closely they worked with the dead, it really wasn't a surprise that those outside of the town, and even some who'd grown up working with the family, were mistrustful of the Isleys. "No," she answered after a moment, "although my great-aunt Levana liked to cut up some of the bodies to see how everything fit together and works. Interesting, but a little unsettling sometimes, especially when she attempted to figure out what the deceased's last meal was." She chortled a few moments longer before finally smothering her laughter altogether, although she was still grinning when she continued, "I personally only invest in plant magic, tinctures and the like. My brother Haul practices shadow magic, so I guess he could be mistaken for a necromancer. Honestly, though, I think my sister Selina is the most likely to do anything like that. She's the one with knowledge and understanding of nearly everything." She allowed herself a snort of laughter as she pictured her disabled sister attempting such complicated magic.
