As Kaida looked to the skies, Donovan realized he had always been able to navigate-North, South, East, West-using the sun. He just hadn't needed to for so long he thought a compass was the only way to tell. "Actually, keep it." Donovan told Kaida. "We'll be fine."
The Shopkeeper behind them frowned as he missed out on what seemed to be his first 10 rupees in a while.
"Let's head out." Donovan said. He was pretty sure it was morning right now, and the angle of the sun suggested 9:00. If the sun rose in the east and dropped in the west, the path that appeared to go North seemed perfectly clear. "I'm pretty sure we go that way." He said, starting to walk down the path.

(it has seemed a little, but not overly so)

Kaida chuckled as she returned the Rupee to her wallet. So Donovan did know how to navigate without a compass. That would save them some time, and money. She waved to the shopkeeper as she followed alongside Donovan. Zarola trotted along behind them, obviously starting to grow bored, but not really wanting to leave.

The group didn't walk long until they suddenly were out in the open field. "Hyrule Field," Donovan muttered. He knew it was the Hyrule Field Lyxa had told him about. It was the only Field in Hyrule. It was huge. Larger than Termina. It was the base of the land, and the largest part of it. It went on far enough forward that Don couldn't see it's end. "This is crazy," He said. He never imagined the land to be so vast. Endless grassy fields and trees stretched out past the horizon. Then, something stuck out in the middle of the horizon. Stone and wood. Walls. Roofs, all over the area. Then one massive tower stood out, probably the tallest structure Donovan would ever see. "Hyrule Castle!" Donovan said, pointing. "See it?"

Kaida gaped in amazement as she looked around Hyrule Field. Termina Field was huge, but this dwarfed it! For the first time since she left the ocean, she could see until the sky touched the ground with nothing in her way. "Good Giants! How can there be so much land at once, unpopulated?" She shook her head in disbelief, then turned to see what Donovan was pointing at. "Giants, that must be taller than the Clock Tower! How in the world did it get so high?" Zarola, unimpressed by whatever the two pink skins were looking at, trotted forward, heading farther in the vast grassland. Kaida rolled her eyes. "That panther is going to drive me nuts," she muttered to Donovan.

Donovan stared at Hyrule Castle. All the beautiful architecture, the stones, the roofing... Donovan didn't know much about towns, but he did know that to build the castle, Hyrule must have a good population of taxpayers and a nicely organized government. He could barely take his eyes off the town. If Lynna was called a "city," the Castle Town surely was too, if not greater. It didn't seem like they had any problems. At least that's all Donovan knew. All visiting the Town would do for them was give directions for Kakariko Village to get closer to finding out about his past, but Donovan knew they had to see it. After a while there they would continue on to Kakariko Village.
"Wanna go check it out?" Donovan asked. He was dying to see the Town and hoped Kaida said yes.

(So my writing will probably be kinda foggy for a while. With how busy I am now it's just tough to focus and I'm losing interest a little. Not because of the story, just because of business. But I will still try to post as much as I can.)

(Yeah, it is starting to get a little bit boring. Maybe we can come up with something when we get to Castle Town)

Kaida turned to Donovan with a raised eyebrow. "You think I'd avoid the largest city I have ever seen without stopping by? I might not like tourists, but that doesn't mean I dislike playing at one." She grinned at him, then turned to look at Hyrule Castle Town. "Giants, now I wish I hadn't sold that pictograph box. No one back in the underground will believe me if I tell them about this." She started to move after Zarola, who was now several feet ahead of the two. "Wonder if I'll be able to find one for cheap enough."

(I guess I'll just skip ahead to the town now, if you don't mind. Nothing big would happen in Hyrule Field anyways. This is the southern entrance by the way.)
The trio stepped through the gates of Castle Town. It was huge. Bigger than it looked from the outside. A stone street stretched straight in front of them to the center of town, where a massive fountain of sparkling blue water shimmered in the distance. Hyrule was obviously in fine economic condition. Citizens filled the streets, milling around, getting their daily business done. Market stalls lined the outside of the street, with two gaps for streets that branched off in either direction. Donovan found himself speechless, just looking around. Stone buildings stood all around. Shops and houses. Clock Town would probably never be like this--unless perhaps a new ruler overthrew the old government and made a new, better one, or it started raining money there. Finally Donovan remembered Kaida and managed a sentence.
"Where do we go?" He said, still looking around in amazement. It seemed like the fountain in the distance would mark the center of town. The enormous castle loomed far past it. The fastest moving thing in the street caught Donovan's attention--a small cat, seeming to run towards them. He had seen a few cats before, in Termina. But he was so used to Zarola that this cat looked puny. The cat started randomly meowing at Zarola and Donovan couldn't tell if the cat was trying to communicate, or just being confused.

(Sorry, but I had to throw that in as a joke, have fun with it. You know how Wolf Link can talk to cats? XD But this reminds me, it seems like Zarola would freak out all the people like Wolf Link did...)

(Yeah, that's true. Maybe she can freak some people out, but then Kaida buys a piece of rope or something to use as a leash?)

Kaida was impressed by the size of Hyrule Castle Town, but it was a lot more crowded than Clock Town. If Clock Town ever managed to get to this magnificent size, she hoped they'd plan it out better, so that people wouldn't be so cramped. She also wondered why the castle, now that she was closer to it, had a sinister air to it. As if something had happened there that the rest of the city was unaware of.
She snorted to herself as the thought crossed her mind. How could they not notice if something was wrong with the castle? It would have to be really subtle for the citizens to not notice it, so she must be over-analyzing her uneasiness about the castle. She turned to Donovan with a grin. "Wherever. You know more about this place than-" She broke off as she heard a scream. She turned to the noise, her hand gripping Flame's pommel, but all she saw were people screaming and running from them.
But not them. Zarola. The black panther had lain down on the rocky path and was apparently communicating with the little cat sitting there. Kaida smirked as she saw the pair, thinking that Zarola could swallow the cat whole if she so desired. Still, if the panther was causing a riot, they'd have to be careful. Wouldn't want the guard to show up and forcibly remove the trio just because some pampered town people were afraid of an obviously tame animal.

Donovan was surprised by all the noise and quickly realized that it was because of Zarola. He found it kind of silly how much they freaked out over a cat... err... panther. But still--all it was doing was laying there with the smaller cat. What was so threatening about that? Then Donovan realized that everyone here hadn't spent 20 years in the wilderness. It really was sad how uninformed these people were about the outside world. He wondered if even the Hylian Knights served much outside of town. Probably not nearly as much as Donovan. He was sure the Sheikah were, though. Although he wasn't sure how much they were on the King's side. The thought made him want to get on with things.
"Could you tie her up or something?" Donovan suggested to Kaida.

Kaida grimaced. "I probably could, but I've never tried. She was tied up when I first bought her, and in fairly poor shape, so I doubt she'd take too kindly to being tied again. I can try, though." She quickly jogged to a near-by shop and bought a hank of rope, knowing she didn't have any in her pack. She moved back to Zarola, then hesitated. Those were big teeth in the panther's mouth, and powerful paws near it. If the black leopard didn't take kindly to being tied, Kaida could easily lose a hand. She grimaced. "I've fought many kinds of dangerous beasts, and came within a hair's breath of meeting death. Yet I'm afraid to tie a simple knot to a leopard," she said to Donovan. Zarola glanced up at her voice, saw the rope, lifted her fur, snarling warningly. Kaida took a step back.

Silently Donovan decided to try manipulating the panther. He didn't want to make a scene, and it might have seemed strange that he was taking control of Kaida's animal. He had never tried taking control of Zarola before, as it would be kinda weird considering she had a legit owner, but it was worth it at this point. He stared at the panther and soon enough, it looked back at Donovan, calming down. Once their eyes met, it was no turning back for either of them. This was basically how his skill worked--he would gaze into the animal's soul and practically be the animal. He was about 16 the first time he tried it, when he had been living alone in the wild for 4 years. It just kinda happened when he was near being shredded to pieces by a wolfos. It wasn't completely calm and controlled like he did it nowadays-- it was more like Don't you dare kill me. Just turn around and forget about me. and that kind of thing happened a few more times and he learned the trick. He never talked when he did it, he had to put all his soul into the trick. He can't have any emotions besides the feeling that he is superior to the animal. The panther's muscles seemed to loosen up and her head sank down, back into a comfortable resting position. At this point tying her up would be fine.

(Hope this is okay with you... I can edit. I mean, Zarola is your character anyways)

                          (yup, works for me)

Kaida blinked in surprise as Donovan stared at Zarola and the panther relaxed. She had always learned that keeping eye contact would antagonize and animal, and make it more likely to attack. She'd never tested that theory, but she believed in its logic. Yet here was proof that it didn't threaten the animal, but calmed it down. Must have something to do with character, she finally decided, and quickly fashioned a halter from the rope, which she put on Zarola. She then tied the other end of the rope to her belt, and prayed to the Giants the leopard wouldn't pull on it hard enough to break it. She liked that belt. She laid a hand on Donovan's shoulder. "Whatever you did, thank you. I think you just saved me a hand."

"No problem," Donovan chuckled. "Maybe I can teach you the trick sometime." At this point, this area of Castle Town was running like normal again and nobody payed much attention to the panther anymore, probably thinking it was just an average companion they had just never seen before. "I guess we could go check out the center of town." Donovan said, moving towards the huge fountain he had assumed marked the town center. It looked like it was the busiest part of town, and as they walked, the sound of crowds talking escalated, and he could hear a band playing somewhere within the bustling streets. A bit further past the fountain loomed Hyrule Castle, and guards were pacing around it. They would obviously not be able to get in, and sneaking in wouldn't be worth their time unless the castle interior held the secret to Donovan's past. He looked around. A man stood by a cart, running a one-man paper-selling stall. Donovan hoped the guy would have some news, or any resource that might help clear out some confusion about the place. Luckily the guy was selling maps and newspapers. The newspapers weren't so important, but the maps would help. With no interest in adding to his debt to Kaida, Donovan snatched a rolled up map from the cart when the salesman wasn't looking. He brought it back to Kaida, unrolling it. "Check it out." He said, looking at the map with her. "Looks like we're right in the center of Hyrule." He looked all over the map. He could see the forest the had previously left south of town, and sure enough, Kakariko was to the East. The town where he was born. He knew they had to go there, but he also wanted to explore a bit, whether it was walking around town or leaving to venture the vast land of Hyrule. "Where do you want to go?" Donovan asked Kaida. He had no idea of where to go and didn't mind where, so it would be best to let Kaida decide.

Kaida shrugged. "Not sure I'd ever have to use it." Then she glanced down at Zarola, passively following along behind them. "Well, maybe I will." She glanced around the square when they arrive, curious to see if she could find the source of her earlier unease. She couldn't, but she suspected it had something to do with the castle. There were hardly any guards there, and the place had the air of something nearing its end. She shuddered, then glanced at Donovan as he showed her a map. She raised an eyebrow, wondering where he got the map from, then looked at the map itself. "We're here," she murmured to herself, touching the map at Castle Town. "Looks like we came from over here. The desert would be the best way back, I think. So maybe we should go here, to Kakariko Village, then go up to Zora's Domain, and follow the river from there to Lake Hylia and through the desert." She traced the route with her finger as she spoke. "Maybe even visit the Goron Mines before we leave Kakariko, if you want." She looked up at Donovan. "How does that sound?" she asked with a smile.

"That's perfect," Donovan said, smiling back to Kaida. He decided he had seen enough of the town for now, and he could always come back in the future, but for now he wanted to go. And he was super eager to find the sheikah. The map said that the castle was located in the north part of Castle Town, so if they took the street down their right and kept going through the field, they would end up in Kakariko. He hoped that sheikahs were still around there so he wasn't wasting his time. Then again, his whole past was a waste of time. "Ready to head out?" He asked Kaida, gazing down the road where huge doors lead to the open field. He personally was kinda happy to get away from the bustling Castle Town. He had never seen so many people in one place and it was just strange. The whole population of Termina was probably equal to the population of this town, if not less.
