Kaida smiled. "Yes," she answered, trying not to put too much enthusiasm behind the word. While bustling crowds were excellant when you were trying to run from a crime scene, they were annoying to her otherwise. She hated the packed feeling, especially if it meant someone could steal something from her without her knowing. Luckily, Zarola helped keep everyone away. The black panther's very prescense made people keep their distance, even though she was presenting lieing down and watching a pair of kittens play with her tail. Kaida rubbed her head, then looked up at Donovan. "So which way are we going? You have the map, after all." She smiled. "Guess Zarola won't be the leader any more."

"Well, if we're in the north section of town, the street to the right will lead us to the eastern exit, sending us towards Kakariko," Donovan said, and he began leading in that direction. Towering doors loomed in the town's east stone walls, just like the ones he had been through earlier. They drew the line of stone streets and natural, vast fields. Known and unknown. Butterflies flurried his stomach as he noticed how close he was to his birth town. Of course, he couldn't know if the village would hold an answer, or if his past would remain a mystery. It could be as easy as some old guy saying 'Oh yes, I remember your parents very well,' or people not knowing at all. His biggest fear was that what he knew was so unknown to everyone that they would think he was a freak and say all he had learned was false. That was the worst it could get, besides just getting killed right there in Kakariko. But he didn't see any chance in that, and the chance became slimmer with he and his partner's skills working against any opposers. If he did happen to meet his parent's killers though, they were in for a beating and questioning if they couldn't take him and Kaida on. Plus a panther that seems to have scared all the average Hylians he's met so far. But he couldn't bear the thought of not knowing anything. It was like a disease, slowly weakening him until his time came. And his time would either rid the sickness, or kill him. In other words, destroy his only hopes. He would rather met his parent's killers than know nothing. Exiting the doors just felt weird. Within seconds, all the population seemed to just disappear. He did feel more comfortable, and yet a sense of unease hid within his soul. As they drew further from the town, the sound of crowds faded out, leaving only the sound of birds tweeting and grass brushing the bottoms of their human and feline feet. Everything became so natural so suddenly. Donovan couldn't help looking back at the town, glowing there in the sunlight. So contrasting and yet so beautiful. He had to appreciate how people could build it all, from all they had, all those centuries ago. Even though it was younger than the fields and the mountains, it held way more history too. He knew the castle had many stories to tell, and the town itself must have too. He vaguely remembered a story Lyxa had told him that took place ages ago. Something about a guy in green clothes who saved the princess or something... Donovan kept walking with Kaida, and began mentally digging himself out of his thoughts.
"So how do you like Hyrule?" He asked Kaida. The sunlight glistened on her face perfectly, and for a while she looked just as nice as any princess. But then again, she would more likely be the one saving the princess, or possibly assassinating it.

(Woah... looks like my writing has healed XD Anyways, if the seven year war is in progress, would Kakariko be under attack at the moment, or not yet, or has it already been attacked?)

        (lol Yay!
Nah, Kakariko's fine for now. )

Kaida sighed happily as they finally left the hustle and bustle of Hyrule Castle Town. She could deal with crowded streets if she had to, but she was glad to be back in the open. She liked always being on the move, liked the thrill of adventure. Were there some days she'd prefer to sleep on a proper bed than on the hard ground. Sure. Would she prefer to sleep on the hard ground to remaining in one place? Definately. She was no one's pet. No one's pernament employee. She was a free woman, able to come and go as she pleased and do as she desired.
She glanced at Donovan, sensing he was uneasy. She didn't know about what, since she was certain he was uneasy about living the town. After all, he wasn't a born cityfolk, like some of the people she had escorted. He had grown up outside the city walls, and was used to the dangers that lurked out here. Back in Termina, at any rate. Was that it? He was uneasy about a strange country? But he hadn't seemed uneasy in Labrynna. She gave up trying to figure it out and simply took his hand, squeezing it gently to let him know she was ready to back him up if necessary.
She watched Zarola trotting next to her as she considered Donovan's question. "The country is alright, I suppose. I don't like Castle Town over much, with its crowded streets. I've always disliked the Carnival of Time because of the crowds it attracts, and Castle Town seems to be one of those places that is perpetually have a festival. The fields and forests outside the town on the other hand..." She grinned. "If my clients back in Termina knew about this place, I'd run myself ragged going back and forth to fetch the unusual items here. That Skull Kid's dart gun and whatever poisons were on the darts? That would fetch a fortune back in Clock Town. And that bird, whatever his name was. I'm willing to bet pictographs of him will be worth the same as of the Gerudo Pirates." She knew from experiance those were worth quite a bit too, and while she refused to near the Fortress, she would make a lot of money if she took any of those requests.

Donovan was a bit surprised when Kaida took his hand. It was as if she sensed his uncomfort about what he would learn in Kakariko. Although he was surprised, he felt more comfortable holding her hand, even though his stomach's fluttering feeling grew stronger. When Kaida told him her idea about selling Hyrule stuff in Termina, he realized it was actually a pretty good idea. He couldn't tell if she was serious about it or not.
"That's a good idea," He said as they walked along the grass. "We should gather up some stuff from here for when we go back. I'll let you keep all the money." He wanted Kaida to keep the money because, while he also wanted to please her, all he really wanted from Hyrule was to talk to a Sheikah. He wanted the trip to Hyrule benefit her too, and her idea sounded perfect. Everybody wins, as long as he could meet a Shiekah. After all, his goal wasn't to find out exactly who his parents were, or meet Lyxa--he mainly just wanted to see who Sheikahs were, and if he could find out how his parents died it would be a bonus. Although, he had already found the best thing from the trip--meeting Kaida. If he never met her, he would be much less complete, and his goal of meeting a Sheikah still wouldn't satisfy him. Kaida was his best friend already. Lyxa was a good friend and mentor, but she didn't share as much in common with Donovan as Kaida. Kaida was like a part of Donovan. He wondered if she felt the same way about him. How many people had she spent this much time with, and shared so much in common? Her brother she talked about must have been a great friend. It probably hurt badly losing him. And unlike him losing his parents as a baby, she was old enough to actually understand what was happening. Donovan hoped he at least partially filled in for him. He would never know exactly what having a brother would be like, but Kaida was becoming like his sister. And he was happy about it.

(I just started working on a Sheikah character. Would you say I'm experienced enough to have one? She doesn't have any special powers or anything. Kaida, for example, would probably be an equal match for her. Not that I would want them fighting XD And it isn't Lyxa by the way.

Also, as I was making her, I learned that the Hidden Village in TP is also called Old Kakariko, which I'm guessing means it's OoT Kakariko. Is that where Kakariko is in this, or has nobody noticed?)

Kaida grnned and bumped him playfully. "Of course it's a good idea," she teased. "It's my idea, after all." She tapped her chin with her free hand as she considered Donovan's offer. After a little while, she shook her head. "Nah, you need some of the money too. I'll split with you, fifty-fifty, and take the money you owe me from your half." She faced him with a grin. "But if you insist, I'll split it seventy-thirty." She bit the inside of her cheek as a wave of nostalgia washed over her. After all, she and Alex had teased and joked like this. She hadn't felt that way with anyone since he had died and she enslaved. She always had a rock hard shell around herself to keep anyone from getting that close again. She didn't want to be hurt like she had when Alex had been killed. The rage at his murderers that had driven her to become so strong had nearly gotten her killed by the time she had met Justin. She had let him get close, but her shell had kept them from becoming a couple.
However, Donovan was weedling his way through that shell. Finding infinately small cracks and wriggling in them. And Kaida wasn't sure if she wanted him to stop, or keep coming. She liked having a friend, and she had often yearned for more. But as she had told Donovan a few days before, her life was a dangerous one, and any children or husband she took would have to be able to survive without her if something happened, would have to be able to support her as she needed it and refuse to acknowledge her if it kept them safe. Was Donovan capable of doing that? Would he be strong enough to live her life alongside her? She didn't know, and she wasn't sure if she wanted to find out. Still, she would enjoy his friendship, and let the Giants guide their path.

"Deal," Donovan said with a smile. Taking fifty percent of the money they could earn wouldn't hurt him, of course, but losing twenty percent couldn't hurt either, and it would help Kaida. "I'll take thirty percent." Donovan looked ahead at the stretch of grass ahead of them. There were plenty of trees scattered around the field, and a few ponds here and there. He could barely see the end of a stone bridge coming out of the distant fog, far away. According to his map, they would take this bridge and another path beyond it to finally get to Kakariko. He was really tempted to just dash over to the bridge and continue on to where he apparently came from, but they were in no rush and it would be a waste of energy. To take his mind off of his destination, Donovan decided to try something he hadn't done yet in Hyrule. He took out his harp, and began to play a melody. The one he had been playing in Termina for basically his whole life. The one he played with Kaida back in the forests of Labrynna. He hoped she would join in. Her playing a duet with him in Labrynna was the best thing he'd done with his harp since learning his last song. The first signs of a reaction were a few chirps from the trees, and as time passed animals started following them. Some birds soared overhead. Some looked like happy, little tweety birds, and there were some black-feathered, man-eater looking birds, but nothing attacked, they just swirved and spiraled around in the sky. Some rodents bounced along behind the trio and a few larger animals joined in, like wild dogs and foxes. A strange, blue skinned human-imp skipped around, swaying it's club in the air. It would probably be intimidating if it weren't prancing through the field like some toddler picking flowers. Donovan saw a glimpse of hope of finally attracting a horse. If this was that time, he would be so happy. Then they would be in Kakariko in no time. But minutes passed, with no horse. He understood that nobody left horses unattended so they could just run to him, but he was starting to think his song just had no effect on them. But he wasn't too disappointed. He was still having fun and was on his way to the one place in his life he wanted to go to. And Kaida was with him. He was fine for now.

(Actually, I don't think we'd be crossing the stone bridge. I think we'd be crossing the wooden one. I'd have to double check my game, though.)

Kaida grinned as Donovan pulled out his harp. She let go of his hand so he could play, and watched as the wildlife responded. She was amazed to see the wild dogs come by, even more so when they ignored Zarola. The panther, however, didn't seem entranced by the music, She followed along as always, snarling quietly at the dogs. Kaida was certain the black leopard could take them easily, but she didn't want her to be injured. The huntress double-checked the rope, making certain it was still tight on her belt. Then she pulled out her flute and joined in Donovan's music. She loved playing music, and Donovan was a better music partner than any she had ever had before, not that she had ever had many. Maybe I could give up being a bounty hunter and be a musician, she thought. But there was something about the thrill of the hunt that appealed to her. She sighed quietly. Maybe if I can find a good enough partner. She glanced at Donovan. He'd be an excellant partner. But she didn't think he'd be able to deal with her lifestyle if she decided to remain a bounty hunter. Stop it, Kaida! she scolded herself. If it will happen, it will happen. But stop mooning over him and worrying over the future. You're as bad as the girl your parents wanted you to become. The future will take care of itself. Just enjoy the present.

(I was talking about the Bridge of Eldin. Although, they did have to cross a wooden bridge just outside the East exit of Castle Town to get to the field, and I never realized it.)

Donovan was happy to have Kaida playing a duet with him once again, and like in Labrynna, it was one of the best moments of his life. Obviously anything beat living in the wilderness for eight years, but hearing her flute playing around his harp still beat pretty much everything he had done with Kaida yet, and the whole time he had spent with her so far had been pretty much perfect. He wished he would forever be in touch with her, whether it meant they lived together or were just friends. He couldn't imagine ever having an issue with her and didn't want to.
As they walked, Donovan's stomach got more and more jittery. One, when he played songs like this he always got excited. Two, Kaida was duetting with him, and she seemed to be getting to his heart, though he probably wouldn't admit it anytime soon. Three, they kept getting closer to that bridge, closer to Kakariko, and closer to learning about his past. Plus the beautiful field scene with all the animals following them. He felt like his heart would just explode. As much as he wanted to spend some alone time with Kaida, he was enjoying the moment hoping he would get to do this many more times in his future. Maybe even show her some new songs.

(Yeah, I assumed. I just thought the Bridge of Eldin was to the north of Kakariko. Again, I haven't played the game in a while, so I'm not sure.)

Kaida glanced over at the sun. It was slowly starting to sink below the horizan. She paused in her flute playing and turned to Donovan. "We should probably start thinking about setting camp," she said. She knew that she could keep going for a while, but all the walking of the past several days was wearing her legs down. She wasn't used to walking so long for so many successive days, and her thighs would start their complaining when she stopped walking. She might have to insist they spend a couple days relaxing and recuperating when they arrived at Kakariko Village. Most likely, Donovan would want to anyways, but she would still be insistent.
Of course, staying for too long would take a considerable toll on her wallet. Unless they found a sympathetic group who'd be willing to take them in, the pair would have to spend the night in an inn if they wanted proper beds. And inns cost money. She touched her wallet, guessing by its weight how much she had left. Roughly 58 more Rupees. She was grateful that this country accepted Rupees as well, but she would have to come up with some more soon, especially if she was wanting to buy a souvineer for herself to keep. She shrugged. She'd figure something out. She always did.

(It is to the north of TP Kakariko, but I thought we were headed towards Old Kakariko which is over the bridge... at least that's what it sounded like when I talked with Kairu XD)

"You're right," Donovan said. He was a bit disappointed to stop playing, but Kaida had a good point, and Donovan realized his feet ached a bit. He did travel a lot back in Termina, but never this much with such little breaks. He never really had a reason to. As their music ended, the animals around them scattered away, just like so many times before. He looked into his food bag from Labrynna and offered Kaida some bread, as he was unsure of how much food she had left in her own bag.

(Sorry about the short post, I'm in a bit of a hurry. No need to make much progress at the moment, I plan on having Inga run into them soon. Oh, and I just realized that we should probably move this to an Eldin Province thread... XD Or possibly Lanayru since that's the general central area of Hyrule and we might end up going all over the place)

(lol Sorry, I had thought we were going to the other Kakariko Village. Old Kakariko is indeed over the stone bridge.
lol Yeah, prolly be a good idea. I can make it in my next post, if you want, or you can make it as a reply to this one.)

Kaida smiled and took the bread, also pulling an apple out of her own pack. She drew a knife and deftly cut the apple in half, handing one to Donovan. She also untied Zarola's halter, so the panther could hunt for her own food. Kaida sat down, sighing as her legs relaxed. "I've walked quite a few leagues in my time, but never this many," she said, laughing a little. "Ah, my legs are going to giving me a good telling to by the time we get back to Termina."
