  • The Beginning of The End

It was dark inside the damaged Hyrule Castle. Joarm walked down the halls, the wall lights and chandeliers hardly penetrating the dark undertone of the castle. Joarm walked heavily, the darkness wisping past as though it were a dark, gray fog. He arrived into a room where candles were illuminating an altar where a familiar symbol rested. Unlike official renditions, this symbol was messy and created from a substance most likely of blood.

On the altar, was a woman chained to four pillars, outlining the corners of the altar. The woman was on her knees, crying both from the humiliation she was already put through before now and the fatigue in her arms, from being stretched and pulled to either side of her. The woman was bare and her clothes were destroyed. The layer of makeup she had was smeared down her face from the crying. Circling the altar were 16 hooded monks.

When Joarm entered the room, the monks began a chant. The woman looked up, terrified of the glowing eyes that pierced the darkness. Joarm looked down at her, making eye contact. His gaze forced the woman to continue staring at him. Joarm got close, the woman unable to look away. Joarm brought his hand and extended his fore finger to her bare chest. His hand was in a gauntlet that had a sharp edge at the end of the finger. He cut the woman's chest open, the victim screaming in pain and agony. Joarm grabbed the woman by the throat and stood her up, allowing the blood to spill from the large slit in her chest.

When the blood slowed, the woman was faint and barely alive. Joarm brought his hands up, manipulating the darkness to replenish the woman's lifeforce. His voice was deep, coarse, and terrifying as though multiple voices were speaking at once, "You are not done yet, Woman." The darkness flowed through the naked woman causing agony and pain. The woman squirmed in pain as her personality began to erode into darkness. When Joarm felt that there was darkness to sustain her, he reached into her open abdomen, reaching his arm all the way up behind her ribcage. He found was he was looking for and yanked her heart from everything it was attached to.

The woman hollered even louder, any access blood pouring all over Joarm's gauntlet. Joarm held the heart and took it to a washbasin behind him where it was placed neatly for a later use. The woman still moved, the darkness causing the female to remain alive and conscious of everything Joarm was doing to her. He used the darkness to force her to regain strength. After the woman went slump for a moment after the darkness ceased passing through her, Joarm stood back. The monk's chanting stopped and they all turned their heads to look at Joarm. Joarm began a prayer.

When Joarm finished, the monks responded in unison, "Divini Druthulidi!" Joarm walked out of the room leaving the woman to her fate. Once Joarm turned the corner, the monks closed in around the woman. They all lowered their hoods to reveal the heads of monsters, warped from the long exposure of the darkness. They all grinned widely, razor sharp teeth baring from every direction. The came in around the woman and began to eat her alive. Joarm could hear the woman screaming through the entire wing.

It had been several hours since Joarm tortured and sacrificed the woman earlier in the day. He was in a chamber that was in complete darkness. On the floor, a set of rings were in the glowing a crimson red in the center around the room.

In the center of the rings was Joarm. He was kneeling and mumbling a chant. Between the outer and middle ring and the middle and inner rings were symbols, writing in Ancient Hylian, presumably another alter. Each symbol began to glow more and more intense with each line of Joarm's chant.

The first circle of text glowed with these symbols glowing the brightest.

The second set of text glowed as well as Joarm continued his chant.

Joarm continued his chant, his mind succumbing to a state of deep thought, his mind began predicting the future. There he saw his darkness stretch past Hyrule and into the surrounding lands, corrupting anyone engulfed in the darkness. He was unfamiliar as to why the living creatures didn't die. He thought the Goddesses may have been involved, intervening in his affairs, but it didn't sit right. The images continued as his answer became clearer. When it finished, he realized he needed believers. He needed people to believe him as a God. He realized that the darkness could be used to exploit the Goddesses' abandonment and attempt to turn their own believers against them. With worshippers, he could then subjugate and sacrifice anyone who volunteered. Having received his new idea, his first goal would be to create new monks, missionaries to extend the belief of Joarm Miaa to his people.

Joarm ceased the prayer and returned to the sacrificial altar. Still chained was a skeleton, blood splattered all around creating outlines of where his monks consumed the imprisoned woman from earlier. Joarm turned to the bowl that contained his victim's heart, putting on the bloodied gauntlet and picking up her heart, careful not to taint the pure organ with his darkness. He approached the altar with the eye, holding the heart out directly above the eye's center. Joarm extended his bare hand and created a knife out of the darkness. He used the knife to pierce the heart, letting the internal fluids drip onto the floor and the symbol.

Joarm recited an incantation and with a large, dark implosion, four monks appeared, forming from the darkness, clothed and all, identical to the rest of the monks in the room, except for their position. Joarm observed each one, all of them exact replicas of the victim, although their facial features were greatly distorted to the point of rotting flesh. All four monks kneeled before Joarm who smirked under his hood. "Your mission is simple. Go spread my word to the other settlements around the world. Inform them that Castle Town fell to the Goddesses Wrath and that I will be their salvation, that together, we can create a relationship that will rival that of the Goddesses. From this point forward, the Cult of Joarm is the only religion allowed in the world! All others will be considered blasphemy and if anyone resists, they will be punished."

Joarm waved his arm in front of him, dismissing all four of the newly created monks. Joarm stood still, pausing for a moment. He looked up to see his artifact above the altar. Suspended by the darkness, it remained lifeless and cold. Joarm brought his attention back to the remaining monks. "Go, find me more sacrifices!" The other monks disappeared within the darkness, leaving Joarm alone in the room.

The next day, the first monk returned to the Castle of Darkness, with a hoard of Kakariko Villagers and Gorons in his path. The brainwashed followers obediently waited outside while the monk went inside to see his master. He reached a central chamber of the castle where he knew his master sensed his presence. He slid off his blood-red hood to reveal a head of long amber hair and uneven looking eyes. "The Eldin Province has been... enlightened, my lord," he announced in his wicked voice. "And I've brought back plenty of sacrifices."

"Very good, Harlyn. Bring me the most terrified one and chain them to the ritual altar. I want everyone to know the fear they will suffer until the repent at my feet. Go further, Harlyn. Convert them, but do not bring them here. When we expand farther, they will have their use. Tell them how the Cult of Joarm will be their salvation from the Goddesses and that any non-believers will serve their false, betraying Goddesses in eternal ****ation!"

Harlyn did as his master said and briskly left the chamber, returning to the folks waiting outside. He looked over them searching for the best candidate to be chained to the altar, but of course they had no clue what his intent was. Suddenly a wild grin spread across Harlyn's face as his glare pierced a particular young girl. She was the only one from the group who was making much sound, and was bawling her eyes out in fear. Harlyn grabbed her by the wrist and brought her back through the castle doors, the rest of the crowd following. "Do not be afraid, child," he told her gently. "Your offering will be appreciated."

When he arrived back in the chamber, Harlyn brought the girl to the altar where he chained her down while the followers watched from the door. Most were still mindless, and watched with no particular expression. One woman seemed to have snapped out of it a little and watched in horror. Harlyn read her thoughts, and discovered that she was the girl's mother. The man standing next to her was her father. Harlyn couldn't help letting out a manic cackle. "The sacrifice is ready, lord."

Joarm put on his gauntlet that had become pivotal in the ritual. He brought his thumb to her forehead and swiped it across from one side of her forehead to the other. He relished in the fear, despair, and chaos she was feeling. "Good, Harlyn." Joarm ripped the teen's clothes off, just as he did with the previous sacrifice. The proximity of Joarm's will and intimidation managed to sober the brainwashed girl's mind, causing her emotions to further heighten with embarrassment and humiliation.

"Bare witness, Hylians! You all shall be served in a noble purpose! The Goddesses have not been seen since the dawn of Hyrule! Myths of the Triforce are just that! They created this... idea to keep everyone at bay! The prospect of becoming powerful, wise, and courageous are just that! Ambition! It is impossible to have a balance and the Goddesses knew this when they blessed these lands with our Ancestry! THEY are the reason for war and bloodshed over the past eras! They KNEW we would fight amongst ourselves for something myth that isn't even true! They are responsible for anyone who died fighting for the Triforce or their infinite glory! But no more shall we be servants to the Goddesses! No more shall our loved ones die in vain for a fictional relic! No more shall we obey the laws in which they have forced upon us!

"Gather around men and women... boys and girls! Gather around to watch this girl give up her life for something more true! For something more evident! Look above and you shall have my proof of my claims. That which she will assist with, can restore FREE WILL and PEACE to the great land of Hyrule and BEYOND!" Joarm paused his sermon and returned his attention to the girl. "Tell me, Child, what is your name?"

The girl's face was damp from the crying she was doing. She was scared and terrified. She wanted to look away, but Joarm's eyes pierced hers virtually putting her in a trance. Joarm's question remained unanswered as the girl began to snivel.

"Child, do not fear me. Your noble purpose is to truly bring about the end of wars and usher in peace within our world."

The girl was still terrified, but something about Joarm's kind tone and voice seemed to have begun to take hold and comfort her in a slight way.

"There you go... there's no more need for tears."

Joarm returned his attention to the group who was watching the interaction between Joarm and the girl.

"As you can see, our sacrifice is prepared to meet destiny! She knows deep in her heart that she is serving a true greater purpose! The evidence is clear! The Goddess' proof is non-existent! Never have they shown the Triforce to any mortal soul, but I can assure you everyone, they do exist and they SHUN us from on High! They look down on us mortals and think lowly of us! Well I challenge them and their rule! They claim to serve for all things pure and holy but how can we be so sure? How can we trust them when they have never shown themselves to the rest of the world! How can we trust them when they don't even trust us with something like the Triforce! Needless to say, my evidence is overhead! I'm sure you all can feel the power and the will and the strength emanating from this great artifact! THIS everyone, THIS is what will bring us peace, freedom, justice, and security to our great Empire! For every sacrifice made brings us one step closer to our goals! Trust in us! Trust in me!"

Harlyn's mob began cheering, wanting and willing to become the next sacrifice.

"Rest easy, you will all get your chance to serve the Great Purpose! For now, this girl is the first."

Joarm began the ritual, repeating every step he took with the previous sacrifice, beginning with the piercing of her chest.

Raina watched the proceedings with disgust, carefully disguised by a mask of indifference. She was at the entrance, keeping an eye on the group, and especially on Harlyn, to make sure he didn't take it into his head that he needed to 'serve the Great Purpose'. The room stank of blood and death, its walls echoing with the screams of those Joarm had killed before. She couldn't understand these people. Yes, the goddesses weren't kind and benevolent as the priests proclaimed. Yes, they seemed to ignore the Hyrule at large. But if they truly believed in free will, they wouldn't interfere. To interfere would take choice away, thus taking away free will. Raina wasn't exactly kindly minded towards the goddesses, but at least she could believe they wanted their creation to make its own mistakes and learn.

Joarm, on the other hand, preached that the goddesses should take free will away. That they, in their infinite wisdom, created the myth of the Triforce just to watch Hylians and the other races tear each other apart. Thinking of herself and her countrymen as nothing more than wild animals fighting for the entertainment of more powerful beings, made her mind rebel. She was not some dog in a street fight, not some **** to be bet upon in a brawl. But the vile part was that he was convincing them to give up their lives for this "great purpose", and she didn't even know what it was, other than disgusting.

Regardless of her true feelings, Raina would remain as long as Hangbri chose to follow Joarm. She disliked it, couldn't stand the constant scent of rotting meat and death, or the company of the walking corpses that he and his 'god' raised, but she'd stay. She had promised not to leave her brother, that she'd protect him, and she'd do so, as she had since they were young, no matter where he led her or what he made her endure.

Harlyn watched joyfully as the young girl was sacrificed, saying a mental prayer of gratitude for the deities he worshiped. After the ritual was over, he set his focus to what Joarm had most recently told him. He had to go to the outer settlements of Hyrule and continue to show his master's power to the population.
"Better not dillydally!" Harlyn said excitedly to his sister Rayna. "We must go, the world is waiting for their salvation! Today we will visit the Faron Province and preach to the people of the forest." Harlyn merrily made his way outside, almost in a quick skipping movement like a peppy schoolboy. He was always excited to enlighten new masses around Hyrule.

"Yes, Haryln." She ran her fingers along her sword belts, making certain that all the knives were in their sheathes. She hadn't used any in a while, but she always double-checked before she and Harlyn headed somewhere. She followed her brother with long steady strides, catching up with ease and keeping pace just behind him on his left side. While she didn't like what he was going to be doing, she didn't mind going to Faron. The foresty province had a peaceful air to it, and she rather enjoyed going through it. However, she wondered what he hoped to accomplish there, since there weren't any towns in Faron to her knowledge.

As Joarm's servants and Harlyn prepared to leave to convert more non-believers, Joarm felt it was time to extend his reach into other lands. He had tabs on his neighboring countries and was familiar with the situations in each. Termina, although ripe for order, he could afford to wait and let them finish their fight. When the victorious leadership takes over, he'll spread his word to it and begin influencing the reigning powers. Holodrum, is too sparse to be a threat, although still engaged in their long and bloody war with Labrynna. Joarm decided Labrynna would be best. He could help inspire their troops and eventually take over Holodrum, restoring peace to both countries and boosting his worship. Without delay, Joarm hurried to the gates of the Castle, summoned his steed with his dark magic, and raced off towards Labrynna.
