As soon as the words left his mouth, Elliot knew that the voice was not of the child's but of a different person speaking. The voice sounded much more sinister--a chilling tone that would've frozen him in his tracks if it weren't for the fact that the guy was keeping him on his toes with his sudden attacks.
He was also faintly aware of being insulted.
Still, he didn't have time for witty retorts. He looked to Elwood's side and saw James still lying on the ground. With Elwood circling around him, he decided to take his chance. He sprinted towards Elwood with his sword raised, faked an attack, then quickly spun to the right and ran towards James, sending a trail of dirt and mud splattering in the air as he skidded to a stop. He simultaneously dropped his sword to the ground while kneeling to place his arm under James' backside and slowly lift him up to a sitting position. "James. James, son, I need you to open your eyes for me," he said pleadingly, clutching at the boy's arm while he studied his face, searching for any signs of consciousness from him.

James heard a voice, somewhere far away. He tried to go to it, tried to wake up. His eyelids flickered.
Elwood grunted when the guy ran to the boy. Love, a dying man's wish. Silently and swiftly he raised his sword. He glided along the ground, the grass silently giving way beneath him. In a matter of seconds, he was standing over the man and his son, casting a shadow of death unto them. He raised the sword, the sun shining right behind the blade casting a fatal glow unto its blade. Then, Elwood brought it down with the strike of lightning.

Elliot saw a flicker in James’ eyes and his heart leaped for joy. He clutched the boy closer to him and continued to whisper words of encouragement, momentarily forgetting his battle with Elwood.
        His battle?
He whipped his head back just in time to see the bright glint from Elwood’s sword. With little time to react, he instinctively pushed James back to the ground, just as the sword plummeted straight through his chest.
His mouth opened in a silent gasp, not enough air in his lungs to inhale. His eyes widened in shock, his pupils little dots in a sea of white, then slowly closed to halfway, as if it was a struggle to keep them held open. He looked down to see that the sword had disappeared through his torn tunic with blood already starting to drip and spill onto the grass from the overflow.
He became aware that at some point he’d fallen on top of James, his legs having suddenly lost all feeling in them. Taking small hiccups of air, he pushed his upper body up with his arms, holding himself over James to protect him from any more attacks from Elwood.
If he could only keep him safe from harm, then he’d know he’d won the battle in the end.
His head suddenly felt light and the scene before him began to swirl and grow fuzzy, disconnected, but at the same time connected to him, somehow. The sounds around him were muffled and gagged, yet piercingly loud, like the scrambled roar of an ocean. The confusion made him even more nauseous, and for a split second the thought crossed his mind that it’d been a good thing he hadn’t eaten breakfast after all. He didn’t think he had the energy to throw up anyway.
He felt a warm liquid push its way up from his throat and drip out of his mouth. He couldn’t breath. Or, more precisely, it was becoming too much of a hassle to struggle for his next, small breath of air. It felt like he was drowning, pushing aimlessly against a powerful current. His shallow, labored breathing grew slower and his eyes closed a little bit more as walking through the fields Rose hand in hand smile on her face his arms struggled to keep him up but he wasn’t going to let him hurt in the cave dancing music playing laughing him still hovering over James he gave the boy a single, reassuring her kiss against his lips for the very first time feeling her warmness against him as they held each other in a close embrace smile as a tear rolled down his eye and landed on James’ cheek breakfast have to get her breakfast or she’ll go hungry have to take care of her couldn’t take care of her after all broken promises f org iv e me I ll alwa ys love yo u once mo re to say it on ce more wo uld be perfect say whisper it to the empty air so empt y can t bre ath bird singing quietly somewherewith the last of his strength he raised his hand in an effort to wipe away the tear that had fallen on James’ cheek. His arm trembled, hovering in the air, then he toppled over like a newborn lamb struggling to walk. In a low, guttural, voice, he whispered something incomprehensible in James’ ear, but it was cut short by a sudden gasp. His body twitched, then lay still.

        Elliot has perished in battle!
        Elliot dropped 430 rupees, x5 bombs, 1 map, 1 phoenix feather, 1 iron sword, 1 Hylian shield, 1 Roc’s cape, 1 fishing rod+sinking lure.

Elwood’s hands flew back from the sword as it went deep into Elliot’s chest. He stumbled backwards, watching as the man succumbed to the fierce grasp of death on his body. The moment the light in Elliot’s eyes went out, the normal color in Elwood’s came back. The boy gaped at the site in front of him, not able to comprehend how he could’ve done this. His knees gave way and he buckled to the floor, the blood leaking from the guy’s body too much for his childish mind.

James twitched in his sleep, and gave a little gasp when he felt a sudden increase in the weight on top of him, but it quickly went away. Not long after that, he felt something warm and sticky dripping on his shirt, but he couldn’t wake to see what it was. Then something wet, but not sticky like the rest, fell on his cheek. A tear. He tried harder to wake now, wanting to see what was going on. It was then that his eyes fluttered open, and Elliot was over him, mumbling something in his ear. And then, the man went very still. Too still. “Dad?” whispered James in a panicked tone. He slowly moved his arms up to Elliot’s body and tried nudging him lightly. “Dad??” he said again, this time more urgently. “Dad!” He wanted to scream, to make Elliot wake up, to tell him he didn’t have to be asleep anymore. But inside, he knew there was no point. He had now seen that the sticky fluid had been blood, and not his own but Elliot’s. Elliot’s face was contorted in a mixture of emotions. His mouth was filled with dark liquid as well, and his eyes were barely open, beneath the eyelids no life could be seen.

James tried calling for the only family –not counting Sephira since she was his girlfriend– he had left, but only a raspy noise came through. This isn’t happening, he kept telling himself, this can’t be real... James’ eyes now were stinging, and he could feel something dripping from them, but he didn’t make a move to brush it away. He was about to try calling for help, when lightning cackled above. It happened again and again until finally lightning struck a few feet away from Elwood, and in the midst of the smoke the man from before was there again, an evil grin spreading across his face.
“Well, well, well, my dear Elwood. I would have never imagined you to be so efficient, I must admit I am very impressed,” the man hissed through black and yellow teeth. He then began advancing on Elliot, and James tensed all over. He didn’t know who the man was, he didn’t want to know. He only knew that this man seemed to be responsible for what had happened, and he knew that he had to kill him.
He, carefully, pushed Elliot’s body aside, holding back more tears and his face contorted in rage. Standing up, he began walking towards the man. The man in turn seemed to barely see him, and just said, “Please, kid, I don’t need extra blood spilled over my land tonight.” With a wave of the man’s hand, James’ body shook and he collapsed next to Elliot, grunting as he hit the ground. One thought went through James’ head: Your land?

The man kept moving towards Elliot when something glimmered between them. Something beautiful.
Clothed differently than before, she stood there. A red dress reaching down to her ankles swayed to the wind. Her long, dark hair was let loose, and it reached down to her lower back. Fierce eyes stared at the man, pale skin on gentle features seemingly glowing.
          Melody.

“It is unwise, Krea, to prey upon the lives of the innocent. I would advise you to leave now and not to disturb them again,” she spoke with a clearness and determination that would’ve made even the man with the strongest will doubt. The man stopped in his tracks and his eyes widened when they saw Melody.
          “Mel?...But, you are...you were...”
“Dead? Yes, I am.” She took a step forward and for a moment the Sun shone right through her. The man took a step back.
“Leave, Melody, you have no business with the living,” he hissed.
“You’re one to talk.” It was then that they both seemed to out of nowhere spring to life. He jumped forward and she sidestepped as he tripped on a plant and fell. He hissed horribly and at once was on his feet again. Her eyes tightened. “I will not allow you to harm any more innocent souls.” It was then that she raised her arms and began chanting something James couldn’t understand.

Relinquere a hic, malum horror. Haec animas nocuit non. Ne tua potestatereferri. Hinc vos revertetur ad inferos.

She repeated this three times, and all the while the man just glared at her, but he couldn’t move for some reason. When she was finished, without warning, another lightning struck the man. This time however, some sorcery caused the lightning to remain there, attached to both sky and man. He yelled of vengeance and then he was gone, leaving no sign that he had ever been there.

Melody sighed deeply, then turned to James. After she had appeared, he had pulled himself up to Elliot and began murmuring words of soothingness –he didn’t know if they were for him or for Elliot– while hugging his father’s body to his own. Tears had begun running freely from his eyes, and he was shaking with sobs. Melody walked up to him and bowed her head, the wind brushing her hair onto her face. After a few more minutes like this, she finally spoke.
“James...he is gone. It is time for you to say goodbye.”
He looked up at her, not with anger but with bitterness. His eyes and nose had turned red.

“How?” he whispered. She said nothing, so he continued. “How can I possibly ever say goodbye? How can I let go of the man...of the man who gave me hope? How can I think of the only father I’ve ever had, of the last of my family I’ve known as...dead? How can I endure more hard pains? Haven’t I endured enough! Don’t I deserve some happiness!” He stopped for a second, fresh tears coming from his eyes, and finally finished. “How will I be able to live with myself anymore if all the people I love die?”
“Elliot doesn’t deserve to have died in vane,” she said quietly, not daring look James in the eyes. “He would have...he would have wanted you to keep going. Don’t you think he would have wanted you to carry on living...for him?” James was silent. “I think he deserves more than that.”

15 minutes later, Elliot’s body was laying on a bed of wood. There was a circle of salt around him, and his eyes had been closed completely. His body had been cleaned of blood, and new clothes had been put on him: A white loose tunic and green tights, the color of the forest. Laying like this, he could’ve easily been asleep.

This had all been Melody’s doing. How she was able to do all this while being a ghost, James had no idea. She had disappeared and reappeared again and again, bringing different things like the salt and the wood and the clothes. She had passed her hand over Elliot and he had been cleaned, and then she had put the clothes on him. Finally she had gathered his things and put them next to James. James hadn’t moved at all since she had told him those things. He hadn’t breathed a word and the only thing moving about him were the deep breaths he was taking and the slow stream of tears from his eyes. Melody had explained why it was better to burn the body, rather than burying it. “That way the soul is free from its jail able to soar into the heavens, and his body is forever preserved in ashes as it was, not left to decay. Not to mention, if the soul escapes then nothing evil can touch it anymore, not even that man. It is what he deserves,” she had said. James hadn’t replied.

It was now, as she stood besides James, a lit candle in hand, that he finally stood up. He hadn’t spoken to her at all, just crouched over Elliot’s things and straightened up again, this time holding the iron sword, the Hylian shield, and the fishing rod in his hands. He thought for a moment about including the rod in the burial, but decided against it: It was a priced possession of Elliot's, and not a cheap one. James was sure he could find some use for it. He put it back down on the pile. He walked up to Elliot and laid the other things over him: the shield beside his torso and the sword gripped over his heart. James stepped back and decided that kings didn’t get any better than Elliot as he looked now. He knelt down next to the man’s head, and rested it on his shoulder. He took a deep breath before whispering into the man’s ear.
“You were always so...peculiar. Your sense of humor, your...well your everything. I never...I never thought the day would come when I...when I would have to say goodbye. I’ve heard that when someone dies, while the soul is still in the body, they will hear what people say to them. I...I pray to the Goddesses that it is true because...because I want to say something. I want to say thank you. Thank you for...for keeping me sane, for believing in me...for making me better than who I was... Thank you for letting me feel love again. Thank you...for being my father.
“I don’t know what you will do wherever you’re going, but in some way I know you’ll be watching over me...over us,” James managed to say between small gasps of air. A final tear escaped his eyes as he said the last words. “I don’t say goodbye, Elliot, I say see you soon, because I know we will meet again somehow, someday. Maybe not in this life or the next, but someday...” James hugged his father one last time tightly, then pulled away and stood up, walking over to Melody. He took the candle from her speechlessly and walked over to Elliot. “May your soul forever watch over these lands in peace, Elliot Kastaga, and may you know that the people you touched, the people you loved, and the people who loved you will never...let your memory fade away. See you soon, old pal.”
James closed his eyes tight to stop the tears that were coming and without another word let the candle slip from his hand onto the liquid that Melody has poured over Elliot’s body. In a matter of seconds, the flames were sky high and James sat next to them, head hid by his pulled up knees and arms hugging them to himself in silence. Melody took a step toward him and said, “When you’re ready, call me.” Then she was gone.
James was so lost in his own memories that he didn’t notice she was gone, nor did he notice that the spot where Elwood had fallen to was empty, and that he was nowhere in sight.

            I don't like this.
Sephira glanced down at Midnight. "Don't like what? Do you smell something off?"
Midnight swung his head from side to side. I smell smoke. I think I smell traces of blood when the wind blows this way too.
"Blood!" Sephira gasped. "Whose?" Star bumped her leg. "Right, right, you can't tell whose. Din, but this is a fine mess." She turned to Rose. "Midnight says he smells blood and smoke. Keep your eyes open."

James had rolled over so that he was lying down in a fetal position. The Sun was shining bright over him yet he felt very cold. In his dreams, he met Elliot when he was just a child and Elliot raised him. Then when he was old enough Elliot taught him about fighting and girls. Suddenly his dreams turned into nightmares. Elliot disappointed of him, Elliot beating him up, that sort of thing. He tossed and turned, but didn't wake. Beside him, the fire was brighter and bigger than ever. It was easily seen from a distance. For some reason, however, the salt around it kept it from spreading and burning the field. Elliot's body was now unrecognizable.

Sephira looked at the billowing flames with a feeling of dread. "James? Love, what happened?" she asked, placing a hand on his shoulder.
Midnight snorted. Even traveling with you, I hate smoke. he mutteree.
Star sniffed around. I smell another man was here with James and Elliot. Elliot fought with him, but the scents are too mingled for me to get more.
Sephira patted their heads. "Let's see if James will tell us. If I have to, I'll try to piece together what happened from the tracks, although I suspect I won't get much more than you did."

James struggled with his own self-control until he was able to sit up and look at Sephira. He had heard Rose, and he had thought if the only thing wrong was a bad feeling... He struggled to find words, to say anything to Sephira, someone who had known Elliot for a long time, or to Rose, Elliot's true love. He closed his eyes tight and grabbed Elliot's fishing pole from the pile of things nearby. He held it to Sephira then let it go and opened his eyes to the fire. He whispered one single word, accompanied by one single tear. In the word came out so much pain and torment he couldn't understand how he was able to pronounce it. "Elliot."

Sephira stared at the fishing rod, confused. What was James trying to say? Then she followed his gaze. Her mouth fell open with shock and she felt her eyes start to fill. "No," she whispered. Her mind flashed through all the adventures she had shared with him. Saving the Kokiri. Stopping the Wolfos attack on the ranch. Rescuing Gerrard from the thieves. Curing the mutants. Freeing Rose from the Gerudo. She lifted her fist to her heart. "Gentle Goddesses, welcome him. He has earned the right to join you in your heavenly halls." Then she bowed to the flames. "May the light quide you home, Elliot Kastaga," she whispered gently.

"no" rose said softly "NO!" she scrammed "he's not dead! he can't be dead! you two are liars he's still alive" tears were falling quickly down rose's face, like an endless waterfall. she shook head, squeezing her eyes closed like she couldn't believe, wouldn't believe it.

James heard as Sephira spoke her prayer. In his mind, he could see Elliot reaching the gates to the Goddesses chambers, knocking on the door, and...making a joke about being dead. That would always be Elliot, he was sure, even in death. He sighed which took more strength that he could've expected. Would've Elliot really wanted this? For him to lose himself in mourning, to break down and not get back up for his sake? James didn't think so. But still, he didn't have the strength to resume his normal life, not yet at least. Rose's scream reminded him as much. He smiled sadly, this was probably as hard for him as it was for Rose. Maybe it was equally hard for Sephira, except she wouldn't show it, James knew that much. He wanted to tell the girls something but words would not come.

As Lumina walked across Hyrule field, she heard a woman scream. Scanning her surrounding, she saw what looked to be a small camp. The Gerudo girl that the scream seem to have come from didn't seem in any danger, but Lumina wanted to make sure that the two who were with her were not harming her.

Making her way quietly over to the camp, she said, "What's the problem here? Why is this woman screaming?" As she spoke, Lumina put her hand on her chakram tied to her waist, ready for a fight that she was confident she'd be able to win.

Lumina looked at the other two, a confused expression on her face. She didn't understand what the girl could be crying that hard about since the other two weren't hurting her. "Um... is she going to be okay?" she asked hesitantly.
