Sephira had closed her eyes after breathing her prayer and focused on her breathing. She had found long ago that it helped to keep her emotions in check. While she had assured Rose not to mind showing her emotions, years of practicing otherwise asserted themselves on the Stari. She blinked her eyes open with surprise when she heard a voice and looked up to see a woman enter their camp. Sheikah, she realized quickly. 'Yes she will," Sephira said quickly. 'It's just hard after losing your mate." She turned her gaze back to the fire and sighed faintly. Then she straightened and knelt, examining the ground to read the story it showed.

Lumina blinked a couple times, surprised. She wasn't very good at making people feel better at times like this. The Sheikah were raised in a way that death didn't bother them much. They were surrounded by death on a daily basis in their temple.

Not knowing what else to say, Lumina looked at the crying girl and softly said, "I'm sorry for your loss. May he be welcomed by the Goddesses and may my people aid him in a safe passing to the other side."

Lumina had seen a couple of passings herself. It was nothing special. A spirit would get on the ship in the depths of the temple accompanied by a Sheikah. The Sheikah was there so the spirit that was passing did not go astray or get lonely. Lonely spirits tended to wander and never cross over, and that's what the Sheikah were there to prevent.

rose's tears were drying, however it was more like she had no more tears to shed. as they dried rose's sadness was slowly turning to anger "James" she growled, the anger clear in her voice "how did he die, was it an accident or did someone kill him" if someone had killed him rose knew what she had to do, kill the person who had killed her Elliot before following him into the afterlife.

Sephira spoke up. "He was killed, by a child or Kokiri, if I'm reading this right. James and Elliot found him here, unconscious I'd guess from the depressions. Elliot checked to make sure he was okay, and the child was ill. Then his mood changed. Then unevenness of this one says that Elliot recoiled from something, and that knife tells me James attacked the child. The child retaliated and knocked him out. Elliot fought him for awhile." She paused, but resumed, feeling rose deserved to know the story she was reading, and James was in no condition to tell it. "Elliot distracted the child and ran to check on James. That's-" Sephira choked on a sob, but managed to repress it so that only Midnight, following at her side, heard it. "That's when the child killed him." She took a deep breath, then let it out slowly. "I can't read what happened after that, other than the child left. I think I can track him, but it will be difficult. These tracks are already a couple hours old, and he was moving fast." She straightened and turned to Rose. She placed her fist over h heart and bowed. "Rose, I know what you feel, and I plead that you let me track him alone but for Midnight. I will be much faster and I know many ways to kill him that will cause him to suffer for hours." She kept her head lowered as she waited.

rose looked at sephira, her eyes had gone as cold as ice "this is not your job" rose said, her voice just as cold as her eyes "it's mine, he was my boyfriend. I don't care if you would be quicker I don't care if you could probably kill whoever did this quicker then I could. I'm meant to do this not you"

Sephira kept her head down as she answered. "I did not say I would be quicker to kill him. I said I would kill him more painfully. If you wish, I can hunt him down and bring him back to you. Then James could also take his vengeance. Please, Rose, let me do this." She let her mask slip just slightly with the last part, allowing Rose to hear her own grief and, much stronger, her rage. She had to do this. If she couldn't hunt the child down at her full speed, she would be snappy and ill-tempered. Sephira did not deal well with her grief, and while she had no qualms showing it, she preferred to keep it to herself, especially when the others had more of a reason to mourn than she did.

rose could see sephira's grief however she could not believe it was worse then her own "he was only you friend, don't act like your grief is worse then mine, because you couldn't understand what it's like to lose the man you love, to lose the only person you ever had who actually loved you" rose said coldly, turning away from them "I would appreciate your help finding the one who killed Elliot, but I will be the one to kill him, not you, me"

Sephira straightened, h eyes blazing with barely controlled anger. "I don't assume that my greif is greater, quite the opposite, Rose. I know it is your right to kill him. And I know exactly what's it like to lose the man I love. And I'd bet that the way I lost my love will hurt me for much longer than yours will." She jabbed a finger in Rose's direction. "I also know that you will slow me down too much. If I go now with just Midnight, I can return by dawn with the murderer dragged behind me for you to torment as you please. But with you, there is only a slim chance I can even catch him. I will have to slow myself for you to keep pace with me, and you will be even slower than normal because of your grief. So I ask again, Rose, let me go alone." Star glanced up when she noticed Sephira didn't mention her, then understood that the Stari wanted her to watch over James.

"diffences is once the man who killed Elliot is gone I won't be around to suffer" rose growled at sephira "fine go on your own, but bring him straight back to me when your done" the happy go lucky rose that everyone knew was no longer there, now there was only a cold person, a shell of what she once was "I'm going back to the village I'll wait for you there" with out another word, not even so much as a goodbye, rose left for the village.

Sephira stared after the Gerudo, trying to puzzle out what she had just said. Won't be around to suffer? Was she going to kill herself? Sephira rolled her eyes, she'd worry about that later. Going to James side, she kissed his cheek, just below his ear. "I'll be back for you," she whispered. She pulled off her pendent and put it around his neck. Then she stood and took off, faster than an arrow from a bow. Midnight ran at her side, keeping his nose just low enough to make sure they stayed on the right track.
Star watched her go, a little concerned. The pendent, shaped like a phoenix, had been given to her by her former lover, and she had kept it close because of that. It was really a locket, with a picture of the two hidden inside. If Sephira was willing to give it to James, she was, without a doubt, going to be back. But more importantly, it showed just how much she trusted James.

(J, if you want him to find the latch and open it, I can give you his description. )

James heard the girls talking, arguing, and leaving. He wanted to say something to them, but was afraid they would hate him for it. When Sephira began running away, his voice clawed its way up his throat in a whisper. "He doesn't deserve to die...he was possessed..." James sighed for a long moment, too tired to try and follow Sephira. Too tired to argue with Rose if he went back to the village. And too tired to open the locket now, even if he was very curious about it. However, he was not too tired to notice the newcomer girl hadn't left. He didn't say anything.

Lumina looked back and forth between the two girls, unsure of what to do. She knew she should probably just back away slowly and leave them to their problems, but she thought it would be more interesting to see what was going to happen. Looking at the man, Lumina said, "Hey, are you okay? You don't look so good." He looked so tired that Lumina thought he'd pass out at any minute.

James looked up slowly at the girl. "Not really," he said in a hoarse voice, a sad smile making its way onto his face. He sighed again and looked in the direction Sephira had run off to. He couldn't see her anymore, but he knew she was out there. It was now that he felt sorry for the Kokiri kid. He knew Sephira and Rose would hate him for thinking that. He even hated himself for thinking that. He felt like he should also hate the kid right now. He wanted to hate the kid, but he couldn't. After everything he'd been through, he'd learned not to hate those who's fault it was not.
Forgive those who don't see the truth...
He wondered who the Sheikah girl was.

Lumina sat down beside the man. "I know it's hard to let go of him, but I promise you, he will cross safely. He will enjoy the afterlife. I've seen many crossings... Right before a person crosses over, a look of pure joy spreads across their face as they see a glimpse of what's to come. Your friend is happy, I promise," she said softly.

James sighed and smiled sadly again. He took a deep breath before finally talking. "You're right, it is hard to let go. But I...I'm not worried about him, really. Elliot...he always was a great guy. Real charismatic, very friendly, no enemies and such. I'm sure he's happy, wherever he is." He sighed again. "I guess, I'm worried about us really. I mean, you saw the way those two girls were just acting. I've never seen them like that before I... The one that left for town, Rose? She's always been very sweet, very nice. She was Elliot's girlfriend and...well you saw how she got." He looked down before continuing. "The other girl, Sephira, she was one of Elliot's closest friends and..." That was as far as James could get before choking on his words. It was bad enough seeing all this happen with his own eyes and thinking it in his head, but saying it out loud made it almost impossible to bear. He looked away and blinked quickly to hold in a tear...or 300.
