Sephira pulled to a stop quite a ways from where she had started to catch her breathe. Also to finally allow her tears to flow. Midnight sat down next to her as she crossed her legs and cried. Elliot had been a close friend of hers, and at times she had thought of him as a father. Her blood father had died with the rest of her tribe, and while she said she didn't need anyone, that was not true. She needed people like Midnight and Star needed her, if only for the support it brought her when she was feeling down.
After a few minutes, she heaved a massive sigh, then wiped her eyes and stood. Midnight leaped to his feet and waited expectantly. She nodded to him. "Let's go. Can you lead the way please?" He nodded and the two took off again, although slower than before.

*Elwood, Sephira and Co come from Lake Hylia*

Elwood nodded slowly. It was a sad story, which would explain why he had become sad when she mentioned it. It must be hard he thought, to be the last survivor of your race. He wanted to say something, but he didn't know what. After a while he realized they had crossed into the Field. "So..." he ventured, still not knowing what to say.

Sephira glanced down. "So what? Don't be afraid to ask me anything, I'm usually okay answering. It has been a couple years, after all." A couple years since her betrothed had set her on this course for a new life. Sephira sighed inwardly and absent-mindedly rubbed Midnight's coat. Suddenly, the wolf *****ed his ears as the wind blew Star and James' scents to him. He dropped the stick and gave a bark of happiness before charging forward to meet them. Sephira rolled her eyes. "Hunting your trail, then playing with you, now charging off to meet Star. I swear, if Midnight isn't exhausted tonight, he never will be."

Elwood grinned, the wolf reminded him so much of himself. He began walking a little faster but decided he wanted to know more about the people involved in this issue. "Well, it's not really about the Stari. This James, is he...is he the guy who was there with...with Elliot, I recall you said?" He was very hesitant of her reaction when hearing the name.

Sephira was relieved when Elwood changed the topic. She had learned quickly how to hide her emotions, a trait she had been told made her a good hunter, but that didn't mean she didn't have any. She turned to Elwood and gave him a gentle smile. "Yes, it's Elliot. And yes, James is the boy that was with him. Don't worry though. He trusts me, and even if he didn't, he knows better than to try and get through Midnight. I am stunned by how quickly that wolf grew to like you." Her smile broadened. "Then again, he doesn't meet too many people willing to play with him."

Elwood smiled even though he was still worried. It was hard to think of someone not wanting to play with such an amazing animal. In the distance he was sure he could see the wolf running, and a bit further away, some figures and what he thought was smoke. At the sight of them he slightly slowed down. Without realizing it he began humming, something he liked to do when he was nervous.

Sephira patted Elwood's shoulder reassuringly. Then she looked up and saw how close they were to where she had left James and Star. "Mind if I carry you the rest of the way?" she asked Elwood. She was eager to get there so she could tell James what had happened.

Midnight pulled up next to James and Star, panting happily. Star glanced at him with an expression akin to a raised eyebrow. He butted her shoulder. There's a Kokiri who plays really well.
Star flicked her tail. Of course he does. That's pretty much their job. Midnight ignored her.

Elwood was startled by the question but shrugged. It sounded like fun, even if he didn't get tired. Up in the sky, the Sun was nearing the horizon.
James looked up when he heard the familiar panting of a friendly wolf. Just like he thought Midnight was there, apparently communicating with Star. He smiled for the first time since Sephira had left. Him and the Shiekah had been there in silence all this time. He had been going over the events of the day and trying to think of what to do. There was only one thing he thought of, but it's crazy. He looked at the place where Midnight had come from and saw two figures, on tall one short. He wondered...

Sephira picked the boy up and pulled him onto her shoulders. He was heavier than she expected, but she remembered carrying heavier before. She started forward, bouncing Elwood a little with the speed of her stride. She was eager to be with her cheetah and boyfriend again.
Midnight turned to James and rubbed his chin on the boy's knee. Star stood and shook her coat, then trotted over to Sephira. She glanced at Elwood on the Stari's shoulders, but ignored him in favor of rubbing against Sephira's leg and purring. Sephira smiled. "Hi, Star. Elwood, this is FallenStar, but I call her Star for short. Star, this is Elwood." Star meowed up a greeting.

Elwood grinned while he bounced on her shoulders, it was fun. He then smiled at Star. "So you're the cool cheetah Sephira's been talking about. Well it's a pleasure to meet you, Star," he said. She was great in every way, and he could tell why Sephira liked her so much.
James smiled at the wolf. "Hey, Midnight! How have you been doing?" He began scratching behind the wolf's ears, obviously glad to see him again. However, he kept glancing over at Sephira and the kid on her shoulders.

Star chortled. Cool cheetah, Sephira? What exactly did you tell him?
"Nothing!" Sephira said. "Just that you were the last star cheetah." Star flicked her tail. Sephira grinned, then paused in front of James. She let Elwood down, then saluted her boyfriend. "James, this is Elwood. Elwood, this is my boyfriend James." Midnight leaped up and charged at Elwood. Star glared at the wolf as he narrowly avoided hitting her.

Elwood smiled shyly at James. He wasn't sure if the boy remembered him. He was about to say hi when he got tackled by Midnight. He laughed and rolled to get back on his feet. Completely forgetting the others, he restarted his game with the wolf.
James smiled wide when he saw Sephira. Even the few hours she'd been gone seemed like forever, specially now that he felt more alone than ever. Then his eyes descended to the boy standing next to her before he got tackled by Midnight. "Elwood," she said. His face stiffened when he recognized him as the murderer, or more like the one got possessed to murder. His face wasn't the only thing that got stiff...because of course he clenched his fist till his knuckles went white! "Sephira..." he began very slowly.

Sephira chuckled as she watched Midnight and Elwood play before turning back to James. She noticed the setting of his face and quickly moved closer to him. "I know. He held the knife, but he didn't do it himself. Another man took control of his body and did it through him. I know it makes no sense, but Melody is protecting him. I trust her." She placed a hand over James fist. "Will you trust my judgement?" She asked gently.

James was silent. Her story confirmed his theory of what had happened, but it was still hard. "I know," he replied. "I saw the man, and Melody. I trust you." He was being honest, but it was hard not to get angry, not to try to beat the kid into a pulp, even if it hadn't been his fault. "But, what si he doing here?" The words came out stiffly, but he relaxed his fists. He couldn't stop staring at Elwood who was happily play fighting with Midnight just a little ways away.

Sephira felt a little glow of pleasure when James said he trusted her. She squeezed his hand to show her thanks, then moved to answer his question. "Melody told me why Elliot was..." she hesitated, then plowed on. "Why he had to die. The person controlling Elwood needs a pure soul for a spell. Elwood is as close to pure as he could, but not quite. Melody said that to make him fully pure, the man needed the essence of a golden heart. That's why he had Elwood kill Elliot." She paused to take a breathe, then finished telling him what Melody had told her. "Melody stopped him from stealing Elliot's essence, but she feels the man will try again. I don't want to have Elliot's death be in vain, if the only purpose for it was to warn us about this sorcerer(sp). I'm going to keep an eye on Elwood, so that there is no further chance of him meeting and killing another with a golden heart. Even if that means I must leave Hyrule," she added the last part with a firmer voice.
