As the story progressed James began losing interest in Elwood and gaining more in the story. His features softened back to normal and he began trying to understand that this was bigger than them. It made sense now, what the man had said. It was hard to believe that Elliot had died for something that didn't involve him at all, all because he was trying to help. Once she finished James sighed and rested his head on his hands. After a few seconds he looked up and began thinking. Maybe this was the way out he was looking for. Leaving. It didn't sound that bad. He took a deep breath. "You know, I wouldn't let you go anywhere alone." He looked at her eyes. "Leaving...it doesn't sound half bad. Not if you're with me."

Sephira smiled. "I was hoping you'd say that," she said. She patted his knee, then turned to look at Midnight and Elwood. "Now I just need to figure out how to him off and both of them to bed. And I need to do something about dinner." She glanced at Star. The cheetah gave a short nod, then turned and went off into the field, melting into the growing shadows. Sephira smiled aft her. She knew that Star would return in a few hours with rabbits, or some other form of game for her to cook. They'd have to eat it plain, unless Star found and brought some herbs as well, but she thought the game would be enough.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

James smiled as Star left but he wasn't really paying attention to her. He was thinking of everything he'd need to do before leaving. When would they leave? However this wasn't the question he asked, there was something even more pressing in his mind. "What are you going to do about Rose?" he asked slowly. He wasn't sure if Sephira had thought of that or not. He glanced at Elwood then back at her. "You know she won't be as easy to convince about Elwood as me, after all I already had thought about the possibility of possession. She on the other hand..." He decided not to finish his sentence.

Sephira bit her lip. She hadn't really thought about what to do with Rose. Before the Gerudo had lost her memory, Sephria was certain that she'd trust the Stari. But with the new Rose, Sephira didn't know what to think. "I was thinking of just writing her a letter. I don't know if I want to risk taking Elwood into the village, and I know I don't want to take him to Rose. She'd tear him to bits before I got a word in edge-wise." She glanced over at Midnight playing with Elwood. "And somehow I think that my wolf would then tear her to bits," she said, trying to keep her tone light to indicate she was joking, although she didn't doubt that he would.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

"You know, if we don't leave right away I could take the letter to her. I need to go by the house before we go anyway," James said. Going by the house would do two things, deliver the letter to Rose and get him away from Elwood so that he could think properly about the guy.
Up in the sky the Sun was already at the horizon. Elwood began having a weird sensation in his stomach.

Sephira cocked her head at James, studying him. She guessed he had some other reason for wanting to go, but she decided it was none of her business. She gave him a nod and smile. "Alright. I should buy some supplies. We won't know how long we'll be in strange lands. If nothing else, I need to make sure to pack medicinal herbs. I doubt where we're going I'll recognize any of the plants well enough to use them." She glanced over as she heard grass moving and smiled as she saw Star. The cheetah had not let her down. Dangling from her mouth were two plump rabbits. Sephira patted her head and took the rabbits. "Good job, girl," she told her, then skinned and cleaned the carcasses. She glanced around for some way to make a fire, but the only wood was almost all burned in Elliot's pyre. Sephira shrugged, then summoned fire. She cooked the rabbits more quickly and thoroughly this way, but it always left her tired afterwards, which is why she rarely cooked this way. Besides, she liked cooking over an open fire. She cut parts off and handed them to James, then called over to Elwood to join them. Maybe she'd be able to use this as an opportunity to bring the two closer together. After all, if they were going to end up travelling together for Nayru knew how long, they might as well be comfortable with each other. Or at least act like it.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

James took the bits of food and smiled, savoring their flavor in his mouth. He didn't have any reaction when Sephira called Elwood to them, but he tried not to look at the Kokiri anyways. Elwood heard Sephira and stopped playing with Midnight. "Sorry, boy, but I'm guessing we've got to go eat now. We don't want to get on Sephira's bad side now, do we?" he laughed, then hurried over to the food. When he was halfway there, the Sun went completely down and stars began to appear in the sky, not to mention the moon overhead. Elwood began feeling weird so he slowed down until he was walking. By the time he got to them the sensation was so weird he collapsed and began breathing unevenly. James noticed this and for a moment forgot completely that those hands had killed Elliot. For just that moment, he was looking at a kid, at Elwood. He put his food down and moved to Elwood's side. "What's going on?"
"I...I don't know," replied Elwood honestly. "I feel, so tired, and weak. As if I had run all the way to the lake." His stomach began to hurt.
"But, you did run all the way to the lake," commented James.
"Yeah, but I didn't feel tired...until now." Now he was short of breath and his legs were aching. He didn't know what was happening. James turned to Sephira to see if she knew what was happening.

Sephira was alarmed by how quickly the boy detiorated. She crouched next to him, trying to figure out what was wrong. She started kneeding various muscles, and was surprised to find them tensed and cramped. "What in Farore's name?" she muttered. She glanced up to see the sun was down completely, although a few rays were still streaking across the sky. She knew these would fade soon, and she needed the light now. She sighed. "Midnight, Star. Find me something to use as a torch." The two nodded and ran off in opposite directions. Sephira summoned a small flame over her shoulder, for until they came back. She glanced at Elwood, and grew worried when she saw the pale-ness of his face. She looked up at James. "As far as I can tell, he's just extremely tired. But he was fine a moment ago, wrestling with Midnight to such a level that I wouldn't even dare go."
Midnight came back, dragging a branch behind him. Sephira drew her knife and hacked off the twigs on it until she had a make-shift torch. This she lit with her flame and stuck into the ground so that it would keep itself upright. Star came running up then, her mouth full of leaves. Sephira smiled at the cheetah and took the leaves, sorting through them. "These would work if he had an injury, these if he had a fever. But I can't tell what's wrong other than the tiredness," she sighed. "If I knew what was wrong I could do something about it." She sat back on her heels and looked up at the sky again, wondering if it was just a coinsidence(sp) that Lady Din had just dipped her face below the horizen when Elwood collapsed.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Elwood was confused. He was trying to figure out what was going on. Then he remembered something. Some of his friends in the forest had powers. He had never understood how it worked, but some of them were able to make plants grow. Control the water. He remembered something about a race of forest beings having something to do with it. Something with S but he couldn't remember the exact name. Still, he now realized all day he had thought it weird he wasn't getting tired. And now it seemed all the tiredness was hitting him now at the same time. He sighed, if this was his power he had no idea how to fix it.
"I think..." began James, but he wasn't sure what he thought. "What do you feel, Elwood?" he corrected. Elwood made an effort to shrug but couldn't.
"I...I'm just exhausted." James frowned, that seemed possible but sadly he didn't know of a way to cure tiredness. Elwood made an effort to sit up and after some time succeeded. "I just...I just need some rest." He tried breathing deeply before saying, "Is that rabbit?" His eyes widened.

Sephira nodded and put a few pieces in Elwood's hand. She turned to James. "I guess we just have to let him rest," she said with a shrug. She turned to Star. "Can you find me more of these herbs please? Take Midnight with you. I need to restock with as much as I can before we leave."
Very well, but not tonight. Midnight needs to rest after all the running he did today, and I'm not sure how well I can find them again in the dark anyways, Star said. Sephira looked at her wolf and was surprised to realize that he was indeed tired. Not as tired as Elwood, his species was made for endurance, but tired enough to be laying down and watching the proceedings with half-closed eyes.
Sephira ruffled his ears. "Alright, Star. You three get some sleep." Midnight promptly rolled on his side and was soon snoozing. Star lay down, but she kept her eyes open. Sephira looked up at James. "I'll take first watch and wake you later," she told him. She doubted that anything would happen in the night, but she wanted to make certain that nothing happened to Elwood.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Elwood took the meat and after close inspection took a bite. It was good, so he gobbled the rest up. Soon after his eyes began to close and he was soon asleep. James smiled and shook his head. "It's OK, Sephira, I'm not tired. You've also been running all day, you should really should get some sleep. Specially if we're leaving tomorrow, you'll need your strength," he said kindly. He looked up at the stars and moon, his favorite part of the sky. "I'll wake you in a few hours."

Sephira smiled and patted James. "I'm used to the exertion, but okay. Make sure you do wake me. I don't want you tired because you decided to stay up all night." She laid down next to Elwood, curling her body around him so that her heat would keep him warm. Softly, she started singing a lullaby. It was in Ancient Hylian, as were all the songs she knew, so she doubted anyone but her could understand it. After all, the Stari, the only race she knew who spoke Ancient Hylian fluently, were dead except for her. "My tradition won't be the only thing to die with me," she whispered when the song was finished. She breathed a prayer to Nayru that she'd be able to teach at least one person how to speak the tongue before her time came. With that, she forced herself to relax and fell asleep.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

James smiled at her and waited for her to fall asleep. Then he stood up, grabbed the torch, and walked around a few times. He watched intently, but the only things that moved were the birds that flew away when he got near. Finally he returned and placed the torch where it was. He sat down next to Midnight and listened in silence. The night was quiet. Still, he knew she was here. He could sense her. He didn't say anything though. After a few hours when he began growing tired, he got close to Star. He had already decided not to wake his girlfriend, let her rest instead. He whispered to Star. "Star, hey." The cheetah had fallen asleep but now she opened one of her eyes. "Hey, I don't want to wake Sephira but I'm growing tired. Could you stand guard?" he asked hesitantly. Star slowly got up and stretched before nodding. James smiled his thanks and moved over to lie down next to Sephira. Elwood had shifted position away from her, probably enjoying the cool that reminded him of home. Gently he placed his arm around Sephira. He wasn't sure what she would think of this, but he thought it to be the romantic thing to do. The heat of her combined with his tiredness soon slowed his breath till he was sleeping.

Sephira blinked her eyes open as she felt the slight warmth of sunlight on her face. For a moment she lay there, enjoying the warmth of the slowly rising sun, before she realized someone was pressed against her and an arm was around her. She tensed, her mind flashing back to the last time she had slept with someone this close to her. She took a couple deep breathes, reminding herself that he was dead, that it couldn't be him snuggled against her. She twisted around, careful not to shift so much that the person would wake. She smiled as she saw James' face and kissed him gently on the cheek.
Then she remembered that he had been supposed to wake her in the night. Her temper flared as she pieced together that he had fallen asleep without waking her. And wasn't that he accidently fell asleep, he wouldn't be so close to her if he had. She wriggled out from under his arm and glanced around for Elwood. She spotted Star sitting upright and crawled towards the cheetah. Star gave her a nod. You look well rested.
"No thanks to James. I told him to wake me," Sephira muttered.
Star butted her shoulder. He didn't want to. He asked me to keep watch instead. Sephira's mouth opened, but she couldn't get any sound out. Star smiled, then stood and shook her coat. I'll go wake Midnight and we'll get those herbs for you.
Sephira smiled and rubbed her ears. "Thank you." Then she turned to James and Elwood. She smiled at their sleeping forms, then spotted a glint on James' neck. Curious, she crouched near him and looked at it. She blinked in surprise as she realized it was her pendent. She had completely forgotten giving it to him. She touched it, wondering if she should take it back. Not now, she decided. That would wake him, and while she'd love to berate him for not waking her, she decided it could wait. Besides, she knew the first thing she would do when getting it back was open it to make sure the picture was still in it. And she did not want to entertain thoughts of that man right now.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Elwood woke up slowly. He began doing what he did every morning. First he stretched one leg, then the other. Then he did dying whale noises as he stretched his torso. Afterwards he yawned really loudly before sitting up still with his eyes closed. His hair was in uneven bumps here and there and as he patted it his eyes opened real slowly. He rubbed them to help them open fully and then he sighed for the sleep was over. Now he looked around, remembering where he was. "Morning," he called to Sephira.
James felt someone move next to him, but he didn't want to wake up just yet. He knew today was going to be a long day, and it was tiring just thinking about it. He opened one eye just a little to see what was happening and surprisingly he found Sephira there. He smiled without meaning to, giving away the fact that he was awake. He yawned his good morning.
