  • Bandit's Guild of Hyrule

Meldos leaned back in the old, wooden chair, fiddling with a coin. His feet were on his desk, but his nonchalant posture certainly didn't reflect his emotions. Their old base in Castle Town had been ravaged by the new war and the many minions that had come with it. Thankfully, this old underground network of tunnels, their underground base that had been here for years, had held up nicely. The roof was supported by beams of wood and the passageways were lit with old metal-framed torches. Miraculously, it still stood. They had fled here, and the layout was fine. Sadly, most of the troop had been killed in the panic, with only the elites surviving. The smoke, the chaos... it was a wonder any of them had lived. The only gold that they had was in sacks that they had carried out... but it was enough.

Meldos returned to a normal sitting position, casting the golden coin on to the desk. He pondered an old map of Hyrule that had been in the guild for ages. It had been slightly defaced, with small, black spots discerning where their victims had lived. Without thinking, Meldos took out a inked quill(That the right term?) and drew a circle around Castle Town. Beside it, he wrote in a fast scrawl, "Ravaged by unknown enemy force. Impenetrable. AVOID!" He pushed it to the side, waiting for the ink to dry, and rubbed his face with his hands.

The sword certainly cuts both ways. This attack's ravaged our little society, leaving me with much less members, less funds, and less resources. But anyone who fled, and most likely anyone in the surrounding area is in an insane panic. They're completely disoriented. This is the perfect time for us to strike. We'd have the upper hand... but I can't make this decision alone.

He drew back one of the old, dusty, purple drapes that covered every doorway in this place. He didn't bother to stop and look at the royal family crest that was emblazoned on them in gold. There were six large bedding rooms, each with six bunks. This was more for the bandit's guild before the attack, built for mass accommodation. Then there was one large-ish room that held their resources and weapons. His halberd, however, rested in his room. He never put it in there. Finally, there was a small mess hall, more of a counter where you got food. Since it was much smaller now, it was more of a 'Get your own food' situation. He turned around, and saw the small wooden trap door that led to the surface. It was covered with old grass and sod, and they were in a fairly remote part of the field.

Deciding he should stop taking it in, as he had to memorize the layout, he turned to a passing bandit. She was a new recruit, and he had yet to learn her name. "You, um... Gywn, was it? I'd like you to gather all the bandits and send them to my office. We need to plan how we're going to keep functioning."

(Mysterie, hope you don't mind if I did that. If you do, just tell me and I can change it.)

Verigan was the first to arrive, seeming to pop out of the wall next to Meldos. He nodded in greeting and grabbed at the map, frowning grimly.
"Castle town? Most of our men were living there. How many do we have left? What are our resources?"

Meldos rubbed his face with one hand, sighing. He turned to Verigan. "Firstly, don't come out of nowhere like that. One of these times, you'll get attacked." He rubbed his eyes with his hand again. It had been a long few days since the attack. "Secondly, we're in, for lack of a better term, deep doo-doo. Almost all of our members were eliminated. As far as I know, we were the only ones that got out." He gestured to the air, as if to indicate everyone in the small base. "Most of our resources were still there. We have a fair bit of gold, enough to keep us for at least three weeks." He looked at the pattern on the weathered oak desk, realizing there was a spot that looked like the Sheikah Eye. He'd remember that. "But the sword cuts both ways. The people living in and around Castle Town are probably fearing for their lives, in a total panic. If we can get organized, we can maybe raid a few of the refugees, get some resources. They'll probably have most of their valuables... the surrounding area must be in a panic too." He got up and leaned out of the opening, glancing both ways. "Where are those two?"

Deana came running up, her feet making only faint noises on the ground. "Hey Meldos. Gwyna's coming. What were you wanting?" She came to a stop in front of the Guild leader and nodded at Verigan.

Meldos, who was standing now, turned to Deana. He was instinctivly standing in front of his halberd. "We need to figure out exactly how we're going to keep this guild running. Should we try to regroup and get more members, or take this small group and raid the disorganized villagers?"

Endin stepped forward and laid the map back on the desk.
"I say we do some raids. While they're disorganized, all we need is a small, tight force. We'll slice like a knife through their defenses as long as we're quick. More members means more time for them to reorganize, less stealth on our part, and we'll use up the money faster."
He pointed to a dot on the map.
"We could strike there. It's the closest to Castle Town, so they'll be jumpy. I make a diversion, the rest of you slip in, take what you can, then get out."
            He shrugged.

<There's my plan, no need to follow it. If we do, where should we raid? Kakariko, some unnamed village? Maybe a PC camp?>

              (Well, what about Svende Farm?)

Meldos looked around. "Still no Gwyna. Hmm." He looked at the map, and pointed to a small square. "This... it's a farm. I don't know the name for sure, but they'd certainly have supplies and food to tide us over. Plus..." He opened the one, large drawer and pulled out an old, leather-bound book. He opened it to the third page. Each page had two columns, each with a name either circled or crossed out. These were all the people that had escaped the bandits. A circle denoted a recruit, and a slash denoted elimination. He almost winced as he ran his finger down, past his brother's name, to the name below it. "This one. Rin Flintlock. We've had word that he's there. Plus, as you know, we bandits never leave a job unfinished."

              (Let's wait for Mysterie now)

Gwyna slipped out of the shadows, her footsteps silent as ever. "I've been here... the whole time....." She looked down at the map. "Svende Farm..... That's the name...... no real fighters, an easy target......."

Deana smiled at Gwyna and put an arm around her shoulder. "Hey Gwynee. Didn't see you there." She looked at the map, then shrugged. "Sure, Svende Farm sounds cool. Although it looks small. Might not be worth all the effort, small farms tend to be poor farms."

Gwyna smiled at her sister. "Hi Dee....." She looked down at the map again. "Not this one...... sheep farm, family run..... produce wool, said to be the best in all of Hyrule...... Not much known about the family, word is they keep to themselves..... but thier shepherd is well known..... visits Kakariko often..... delivers wool once a month, like clockwork..... said to be a gentle little thing, all smiles and sweetness, but possibly simple-minded......" She fell silent. She had said all she knew about the target, so there was no need for her to speak anymore. She preferred not to talk, anyways.

Deana squeezed her twin's shoudlers. "You do your research on everything, don't you," she said grinning. Typical of her sister. While she was off in the practice ring kicking guys' butts, Gwyna was in the library learning everything she could about everything.

                        Verigan nodded, acknowledging the point.
"So, not the most valuable target, but easier because it's secluded. And if this wool is as good as you say, it's worth it. Meldos, if you disagree, go ahead and say so."
He pulled back one of the curtains and grabbed two hunting knives from a weapons rack, hanging the sheaths off his belt. "I'm good to go."

Gwyna smiled, blushing. "I like to listen....... and to learn things......." She brushed her fingers through her hair absently. She couldn't help but wonder when Verigan would notice that his favorite dagger was missing.

Meldos had been pondering. "We'll want to avoid burning it. If the wool is what we want, fire is a no-no. Either way, getting out soon is a good idea." He stood, walked towards his halberd and put it on his back. "Well? Farms don't rob themselves.

Deana grinned and checked to make sure her knives were at her hips. Then she moved to follow Meldos. She paused to snatch a plain gold ring she spotted, slipping it into a pouch at her waist. If Meldos didn't notice she had stolen it, she might return it later that evening, or tomorrow morning. She hid a smile at the hope that she had finally stolen something from her leader as she stood waiting to follow him.
