  • A Doomed Trio

    (Entering from Labrynna's Guest)

The trio arrived in Hyrule Field. They had been running virtually non-stop, putting behind them the pain, anger and betrayal of Labrynna, a doomed Kingdom now enveloped in hatred and bitterness. A Kingdom that will someday fall and be nothing more than a broken country of riots and rebellion, one needing a powerful and wise Princess to ascend her Father's throne.

The trio reached a hill with a tree atop it, stray fencing nearby. Kairu, completely sick to his stomach, and in pain below his waist, asked if they could stop. The women agreed and Kairu climbed down off of Outlaw. In the distance was the Dome of Darkness that surrounded Hyrule Castle and her surrounding settlement. Although it had been days since the Twili Invasion, the smoke and screams continued to rage. Everything Kairu ever knew, everything he once loved and cared passionately about his burning and tearing itself apart. And in his heart, he somehow knew that the pain was far from over. After all, how he sees it, it never really is.

Kairu collapsed on the ground, clinching his heart; tears, sorrow and pain ushering itself out of his face as best as it could. In his grief, his son Leonidas and his ex-wife could be terrified and scared, or worse, dead. He started to think, maybe getting his memories back wasn't so good. His lost memories are what is making him feel so much pain, especially remembering Leo, never saying goodbye, not to his actual son.

Ryli rushed to Kairu's side when he collapsed. She pushed his hair out of his face so that she could look into his eyes. "Are you okay?" she asked, concern and worry evident in her shaking voice. Seeing him in this much obvious pain killed her, but she had no idea what brought it on. She glanced up at Malina with a pleading look, hoping that she would have a potion to ease his pain or at least be able to explain what was going on.

Kairu pushed Ryli off of him. "I- I'm fine... it's just... Seeing this... I should be there... My son... he's..." Kairu couldn't finish his thought. "Leo... he's in there. If he's not dead, he needs his father. I may have left him and his mother, but despite everything, I still need him as much as he needs me." Kairu remained on the ground. His heart still in severe pain. He just couldn't fathom the idea of losing his son, losing Leo. Kairu just remained on his hands and knees sobbing and trying to get it out of his system for the two women he loved.

Malina dismounted from Zylan, groaning. It had been awhile since she ridden so hard for so long. She could easily see, now that she wasn't focused on the path, that all three horses were exhausted. She murmured apologies to them as she started unsaddling and picketing them. She'd rub them all down, but not yet. She was too tired.
She turned as she heard Kairu collapse on the ground. She frowned in confusion. Kairu would undoubtedly be sore, not being used to riding, but his position was not of one in pain from that. She observed the tears spilling from his eyes, the pain in his expression. No, his ailment was emotional, not physical.
Malina noticed Ryli's glance and guessed the reason for it. She knelt next the saddlebags and pulled out her book. She leafed through it, but as she wasn't sure what she needed, she didn't know what she was looking for. "Potion of Forgetfullness... No, don't want a repeat of that. Relaxation might work, but I don't have ginger..." She grumbled under her breath. "What in Nayru's name am I looking for? Revival Potion? What on earth would I bring a spirit from the Underworld for?"

"I will be fine... I just need rest." Kairu forced himself up and started walking towards the tree. He walked around the other side of the tree and sat against it.

Ryli couldn't believe that Kairu pushed her off so coldly. She was just trying to help him, and he just shoved her away. She felt her skin start to burn in anger and embarrassment and tiny flames jumped from her fingertips. I traveled for so long... I spent so many nights alone, worrying about him, hoping he was okay... All for this? To be shoved away like some pest? She realized that he was hurt about his son, and she could understand. After all, she too abandoned her family. But to shove her away for trying to help was un-called for. Taking several deep breaths to calm herself, Ryli felt her skin finally cool with the chill of ice as she made a conscious effort to appear fine, even though she was torn apart inside.

Malina glanced at Kairu as he walked away. "Hope he'll be okay," she murmured. She closed her book, put it away, then pulled out a pair of brushes. She tossed one to Ryli. "Help me rub these guys down, will you?" she asked. She had noticed her friend's expression, and guessed the reason for it. When she was upset, she always found tending to the horses cheered her up, or at least calmed her down. And these three needed some serious attention.
As she worked on Zylan, she told Ryli, "Don't worry about him. Men tend to prefer being alone when they're hurt. They're too proud to let anyone else see their hurt, because they think it will lessen everyone's opinion of them."

Kairu got up from behind the tree. "I'm fine. I just need to breathe. Gimme the tent. We'll camp out here tonight, eat, and figure out what to do from there." Kairu went and got the tents, and began setting them up.

Ryli smiled softly at Malina. "He never used to be like that... I always felt like he knew he could come to me with anything. I guess the time apart has changed us both..." As she spoke, she began brushing Outlaw. Brushing the beautiful animal made her think back to when she was at home in the desert. She spent a lot of her spare time in the stables, grooming the horses like this, because it took her mind off of her situation.

"So you are really interested in magic? Are you going to specialize in any form, or are you just looking to learn as much as you can?" Ryli asked Malina. Magic was another thing that took her mind of her circumstances. It's what kept her sane during the time she was searching for Kairu. She poured her spare time into training and meditation, which gave her a great grasp on her control of both fire and ice, and the uses of both.

Malina's heart went out to Ryli. It was probably more than just the seperation that had changed the young man. Who knows what effects her potion had on him? She made a note to try looking up further effects in her potion book, although she remembered it had said nothing about Kairu losing his memory.
"I want to learn everything I can," she answered. "If I specialize, it'll probably be in potions, because that's what started me on it to begin with. They're also easier, I think, since all they require is attention to the recipe and the correct herbs. Spells and such, as I understand, either require energy from your own body, or something to conduct it through, like a wand." She shrugged. "It wouldn't really matter, would it, whether I become a witch, or sorceress, or mage. While a witch brews potions, a sorceress deals with spirits, demons, and other necomatic arts, at the same time a mage casts spells and curses. Most people wouldn't recognize that, and I'd be whichever word first came to their mind to classify me as."

"Well, I guess I'm some sort of mage, but I don't cast spells exactly. I draw energy from within myself and exert it outward. I now have control of fire and ice. If you'd ever like to learn, I could show you," Ryli said with a smile. She thought that might take her mind off of everything that was happening, as well as allow her a chance to practice everything she knows about her skills, going all the way back to the basics, which is always beneficial.

Malina's eyes light up. "I'd love it if you would teach me!" she cried with delight. A true teacher of magic would make it much easier for her to learn. However, from whar she remembered reading, spells that required energy instead of tools or words couldn't be learned if the student didn't have the capability. She tried to remember what the were called, those capable, but the name eluded her. She was certain there was a separate category for them.
Finished with Zylan, Malina moved on to Black Heart. The mare knickered her thanks. Malina smiled, then glanced at Kairu. "Who's making dinner?" she called. "I can if neither of you want to. I'm fairly good with a pot and spoon." It was partially why she could brew successful potions without having recieved proper training.

Ryli laughed. "You definitely don't want me cooking. My food always turns out lethal. If you want, I can start your first lesson after we eat. That's normally when I do my meditation anyway, so it would be perfect."

Drake arrived in Hyrule Field at a slow pace. His horse was tired, and Drake would feel bad if he pushed it more. So he entered in slowly, looking around for the group. Eventually, he spotted them on the hill. He got off his horse and continued to examine them. Should I approach them? Drake wondered, walking closer to the hill with his horse. If any of them looked now, them would be able to see him easily. Drake didn't have much of a choice if they saw him. Wait a second...I forgot what I'm supposed to do! Drake realized, almost wanting the horse to hit him in some way for his stupidity. Maybe if I join their group or follow them for a while, I'll remember what to do. Drake resolved. By now, he was so close to the group that they could probably hear him now.

Kairu finished setting up the tents when he heard Drake. He inconspicuously went to Outlaw and pulled out his sword, weilding it at Drake. "State your business, Labrynnian, or fall to my blade. I warn you now, we will not go peacefully!" Kairu was in no mood for games. He held the sword with a tight grip and an aggressive look on his face, ushering both women to stand back.
