"Ryli... I know all that, but if something happened, I really don't think things will be the same as Labrynna. Whatever or whoever is creating that... shell, is powerful. Very powerful. I don't want you to get hurt."

Malina bit her lip as Kairu spoke of killing. She disliked killing, although she could understand the reasons behind it. Still, she was tempted to ask Drake to accompany her elsewhere while her friends spilled blood.
She agreed with her countryman about the ominous presence around the town. The spell holding the shield was powerful, and as such, the caster was mighty. She would brew what potions she could to make it easier to fight him, but she would not join them in the town.
Kairu's comment on Ryli being hurt, however, broke her melancholy mood. She laughed hard for several moments before forcing herself to stop. "Her, hurt?" she wheezed. "She crossed two countries, fought my father's soldiers, and fled with a laugh. She controls magic and has a weapon she is familiar with (she does have a weapon, right?). She is much less likely to be hurt than you are." Snickering, she started to serve the finished stew.

Kairu scoffed. "Still, I would hate to see the same thing happen to her again. Especially if it's a faction against the Gerudos. She could still be accused of being a spy. Milady, Hyrule is nothing like the people of Labrynna. They're quick to judge and full of sin. It's a wonder why the Goddesses still watch over us. Part of me doesn't blame Hyrule for this. We've had it coming for years. Our glory ended when we united the tribes and forged a powerful country. Now? We're just lazy. But that doesn't mean the people need to die or suffer, they just needed to be taught a lesson." Kairu held out his bowl prompting Malina to pour some of the food into it.

(Yes, she uses a short sword )

While it felt good that Kairu was at least showing some concern for her, Ryli did not like feeling as if he did not think she was strong enough. She smiled broadly when Malina stuck up for her. "Kairu, I don't think you understand. I can handle anything that is thrown at me in there. They can think I'm a spy all they want, they will not take me. I went peacefully in Labrynna for your sake, but now I will prove myself worthy as a protector of Hyrule. I have learned not to fear death, and that is the worst possible thing they could do to me," Ryli said fiercely, her golden eyes gleaming. "I could probably even best you in combat," she said, only half-joking with a smile on her face.

"Not fearing death means you have no motivation to live. But I will not preach philosophy. If you want to tag along, then fine, I guess I can't actually stop you." Kairu resumed eating.

Malina bit her lip as she filled Kairu's bowl, trying to keep from bursting out with more laughter. Hyrule, worse than Labrynna? Only because it was four times the size! Hadn't he seen the ruins of the Black Tower? Hadn't he noticed the charred remains of the Maku Tree? The palace had only recently been pulled to the surface again, didn't he know that? Gorons and Zoras lived in Labrynna, but you wouldn't know it because they hid from the human population. The fairies in the forest lost every human traveler who entered them, not for play like they claimed when caught, but to punish. No, Hyrule was Goddess blessed compared to the smaller country.
She glanced at Ryli. You love him so much, that death is as nothing to you. You would travel through the Netherworld if it meant keeping him. Her gaze turned to Kairu. And you would stop her if you could, because you love her dearly and don't want to see her hurt. I wish I had a love like yours. She sighed, her melancholy mood having returned. But what is love? So easily inspired by a potion, so easi forgotten by another. Does he truly love her, if his heart could forget her and love me instead? Why do I yearn for something easily faked, easily shattered? Why does anyone? What is so special about love, the most powerful emotion, and the most weakening?
She filled Ryli's and her bowls, then glanced at Drake. He was already eating his own food, but manners dictated that she offer him some. But she didn't have another bowl. But maybe he had one. Sighing inwardly, she said, "Would you like some? I don't have another bowl, but if you have one, you're welcome to help yourself."

Ryli's temper flared and she gripped the bowl tightly. "First of all," she began through gritted teeth, "I have plenty of motivation to live, I just know that some things, like the fate of this country, are bigger than me and I honor the chance to give my life in service of it if need be. Second, I will do plenty more than 'tag along' and I'm insulted that you would say I am only doing that much." She practically spat the words as she spoke. "Listen, I know I'm small and I'm a girl, but I'm sick and tired of you treating me like I can't do anything. I suggest you stop underestimating me before it comes back to bite you later."

Kairu started to feel threatened by Ryli's temper. He quickly lashed back. "Look! I'm sorry, ok? I'm going through a hard time right now! Surely you understand that? I'm alive! Back from the dead! What you don't know is that it was someone posing as a Labrynna soldier! My mind is fogging on who it was that killed me. Labrynna could be facing an attack from Hyrule who might just pair up with Holodrum in their bloody conflict and wipe Labrynna off the map. Not to mention I lost my memory not remembering anything until I nearly died again from a simple allergic reaction. Malina and I both broke you out of the Baron's prison because I still cared for you! I still do! We've all sacrificed something big to be here! Now here we are! I see my home, people I love and care about as much as you potentially dead or close to, with nothing but themselves, each other if they're lucky!" Kairu was getting furious at how Ryli was becoming more assertive. "Look...," he said rather calm and taking a deep breath. "Ryli, I don't want to lose you, or risk it. If you don't go, then there is no chance of you getting hurt or endangered..." Clouds began to move in over the sky, darkening the landscape and dimming the moonlight.

Drake was going to tell Malina that he had no bowl, but then Ryli blew up. Drake backed up even more to the point that he was touching his horse. Drake shot Malina a look that asked "Should we go?". Drake wasn't too sure it was safe to hang around Kairu and Ryli while they were in an argument.

Malina nodded as she glanced fearfully between the arguing lovers. She grabbed her book as she stood and led the way. She stopped just out of earshot. "I've never seen anyone fight like that. Are all lovers like that? My mother was always so frail that any fight between her and my father wouldn't have lasted long enough for them to start shouting like that." She settled back on the grass, placing her half-eaten dinner beside her and her book on her lap. She opened it to a random page and scanned it, but she didn't obsorb any of the info on it.

Drake followed Malina and sat down. "I don't remember my parents arguing. Or maybe I unconsciously choose not to remember. Kind of hard to know because of the way I raised." Drake said, looking out into the distance remembering the old days growing up on his farm. Drake sighed. Everything was perfect before Mother died...

Malina glanced up. "You didn't spend much time around your parents?" She hadn't either, not together. For the first several years of her life, her father wasn't there, and after he came back, they had moved into the palace and her mother took over the household. She didn't have the time, or eventually, the health, to keep up with her energetic daughter, so the girl spent time with her father. The only times she was with both her parents were at royal events.

Drake looked back at Malina. "Yeah, I only saw them at breakfast, lunch, and supper, because I was always helping with the farm. Through the few times I talked to them, I don't think they cared about me and probably wouldn't tolerate them if I approached them out of the blue. The only one who seemed to care was my brother...and he left." Drake laughed. "Probably should've gone with him ; it would've been much better than living with my parents, I'm sure. For a moment Drake saw his brother's face but shaked his head to make it go away. He knew if it looked at it too long he would break down.

Ryli took some deep breaths to try to calm herself, but it didn't work very well. Her fists were clenched tightly and her palms were burning hot due to her rage. "You have no idea the hell I've been through in the time I spent looking for you," she said, slowly and carefully. "Not only did I have to deal with the possibility that you might have died, I had to spend most of my days and nights in the wilderness traveling. On the rare occasions I did enter a town for supplies, I was stared at, children hid behind their mothers, and most vendors wouldn't even sell to me, so I went hungry. Then there was the night I was attacked..." Tears welled up in her eyes and she shook her head slightly. "A group of racist men beat me until I became unconscious. I think they only left because they thought they had killed me. That's when I decided to focus on my training while I was searching for you."

She thought of the many lonely nights she had spent running her fighting drills. First she would meditate, then practice her swordplay, then fire, and then she spent a huge amount of time working with ice, since she was not that skilled with it and it did not come easy to her. "Then to top all that off, when I finally found you, you were in love with someone else and had forgotten me. I think you are still in love with her... You have no idea how hard that is for me to bear." Ryli got quiet for a moment, thinking about the way Kairu looked and Malina and how he acted around her. "I can't deal with that," she said, her anger building again.

Kairu let his head hang in the air. "Loving Malina wasn't my choise. It was a side-effect from the ressurection potion she brewed. It was a complete accident, both of them," Kairu maintained a very quiet, somber, numb tone to his voice. "What are we doing? We're fighting just like I did with my ex-wife. I wouldn't blame you if you left. Clearly there's a pattern with me. I love you Ryli Akilah. I hope you understand that. I will not allow myself to draw my sword on you like my ex-wife. Yes, feelings are still there for the Princess. It's to be expected as a side-effect of no control. But maybe you can't tell, there's a war raging in me. I have one half of me fighting to be with you. Knowing everything we have and I said, and how I don't want that to change. Then I have the other half the side that is forced to love Malina as much as you because she saved my life, for one, and two, it's just a magic bond. I am doing my best to do what's right, but I can't continue if we keep fighting between us." Kairu moved closer to Ryli, to embrace her, get in close and let his heartbeat with hers, chest to chest. And then he whispered into her ear. "I love you, forever."
