Malina laid a hand on Drake's arm. "I'm sorry to hear that. I had a friend, one who was like a brother to me, but he left. I don't know where he went or if he'll ever come back. I don't even know why he left. Maybe it was something I did, maybe it was something that I could have helped with. But now I'll never know." Maybe this Drake had more in common with her than nationality.

Drake almost shook Malina's hand off of his arm because no one had ever done anything like this to him before, but at the same time...it felt nice. Drake suddenly had a weird feeling that he never had before. It made him feel uncomfortable, but he did a very good job of hiding it because at the same time, he enjoyed it.
"Wow...you have it harder than I do. I mean, maybe that guy wasn't your blood brother, but you don't even know why he left. At least I knew why my brother left...Comment

Ryli laid her head on his shoulder and wrapped her arms around him. She sighed and said, "At least promise me you won't be so....affectionate...towards her. I know right now you can't help your feelings, but you can help the way you respond to them. It's disrespectful to me that you would act on those emotions and be so protective and obviously in love, and I just can't watch it any longer."Comment

Malina frowned. "Why did he leave?" She wondered if it was for a job, like her father, but the sad air with which he had said it implied that it was for some other reason. Maybe he left for the army? That would explain it.
Abruptly she realized that Drake wouldn't feel comfortable talking about it. After all, she wouldn't be comfortable explaining why she had left Labrynna. "I'm so sorry Love, but I won't. I cannot allow myself to make a girl a promise I may not be able to keep. I will, however do my best." Kairu kissed her neck and just let his head rest on her shoulder. "I know you're the Gerudo Princess, but you're strong and your race isn't hostile to Hyrule. Malina is a princess in a different land, potentially hostile, and is not combat ready, at all. Someone needs to protect her. I've been doing it because it is an honor I need to maintain for saving my life." Kairu continued to think, completely cut off from what happened with Hyrule and the Gerudo-Twili Invasion of Castle Town.sigpic

"It's okay." Drake told Malina, partly telling the truth and partly lying. "I distinctly remember it was because of my parents that my brother left. He made a big speech before he left. Drake chuckled. "That guy had some anger problems. Hopefully whoever he's with now never knows his wrath." Drake chuckled again, remembering all the times his brother got mad at his parents. Back then, Drake wanted to help his brother, but on hindsight, Drake knew that it was for the better that he stayed out of their arguments.Comment

"I'm not asking you to stop protecting her," Ryli began, speaking softly to show Kairu that the worst of the fight was over now. "A body guard does not openly show affection towards the person in his or her care. That's all I'm asking. Maybe if you do not give into your feelings, they'll just go away over time as the spell wears off. I just don't think I should have to be made to watch you openly staring at her or making overly affectionate comments or anything of the sort. I just think it's disrespectful.... I now know how your wife must have felt, and I hate it more than anything you can imagine. If you love me, you will at least do that much for me," she said as tears welled up in her eyes.Comment

A tear began to well up in Kairu's eye. He pulled both his and Ryli's head off of each other and put both hands on her cheeks, holding her head securely. "Ok. I will do my best." He maintained eye contact with her knowing that breaking it would be an indication of insincerity. He kissed her lips gently. "I'm tired and there's a big day tomorrow. He left his plate and went into one of the tents. He turned to Drake just before and spoke in a harsh, subtly threatening tone, "I presume you will set up your own tent. I would think it be impolite to just... sleep with Her Highness without actually knowing her or being intimate." With that Kairu entered one of the two tents he set up and laid down to sleep.sigpic

Drake watched Kairu go into his tent in confusion. "Hey Malina, do you know what is wrong with your 'guardian'? He has been treating me so rudely ever since and got here and now he just proposes this idea out of nowhere and I have no idea what he means! Is there something wrong with him?" Drake asked, trying to calm down. He hoped whoever this man was would give it a break and lighten up soon, because Drake knew that he did not appreciate how he was being treated. "Actually, forget it, I'm setting up my tent. And I'm going to make sure it's far away from his!" Drake said, storming off to set up his tent.Last edited by Z64; 01-29-2013, 04:42 PM.Comment

Though what Kairu said reassured her, Ryli did not like how threatening he was towards Drake when the kid had not said anything about sleeping with the princess. Besides, she thought, who is he to tell them who they can and cannot sleep with? She didn't say anything to him about it though. They had fought enough for one night. She waved her hand towards the fire, causing it to go out. The last thing they needed was to have their tents catch fire in the middle of the night. "Goodnight Princess," she said with a smile and a small bow. "Goodnight Drake, and it truly is a pleasure to meet you." She then left and went into the tent with Kairu. As she lie down next to him drifting off to sleep, she couldn't help but wonder if he and the princess had ever been intimate, a thought that caused her to sleep fitfully the rest of the night.Comment

Malina was about to comment on Drake's statement about his brother, when Kairu warned him about sleeping with her. She sighed and started to explain about the potion's affect on him, when Drake bristled and walked away. She watched him, sad that her two friends couldn't get along. She called a good-night after him, and wished Ryli sweet dreams. She knew she wouldn't be able to sleep herself, though. The tent was so much smaller than her open room back home, but out here was so vast.
Sighing, she turned to her potions book and started reading it. Unlike the countless times she had read it before, she was paying complete attention to what she read. She didn't skim the recipes that seemed useless, nor did she skip the ingredients list. She wanted to become a full master of these potions, and that meant she had to learn them all and know them by heart.
Eventually, she chose a potion that looked easy enough and started to brew it, careful to move her fire far enough from the tents that its light wouldn't bug her sleeping companions. It was a potion, it was really more of a paste, that would heal wounds it was slathered on. It was nearly a powder, as only one liquid was called for. Blood.
Malina was very hesitant to cut herself and let the blood flow into her bowl, but she finally convinced herself by saying, "It'll be a good test to make sure I made it right." It still hurt when she cut her wrist. She bit her lip to keep from screaming with the pain and gripped her arm tightly to keep the blood flow steady.
When she had enough, she bandaged the wound in a white cloth, whimpering with the pain. She proceeded with the rest of her potion until it was finished. Then she scraped it into a bottle, nearly filling it. Only then did she apply some to her wrist and bandaged it back up.

Drake ignored the others as they said good night. He was still upset about what Kairu had said and just wasn't in the mood for talking. When he finished setting up his tent, he went in and fell asleep. He had a dream where he was in a field feeding animals when he got mad and started beating them up. The animals turned into people, and the one he was beating up had Kairu's face.

Drake sat up immediately when he woke up in the morning. I'm not usually like that! I'm letting my anger get to my head. Drake thought as he exited his tent and starting eating some breakfast. I ought to cook some of this food while I still have it. Drake thought when he remembered that eventually he would start sharing food with the others. Not wanting anyone to bother him if they woke up, he went back into his tent and tried to get over Kairu's actions.Comment

Kairu was next to get up. He could hardly sleep, it had been several nights since he got any real opportunity to sleep. Being with Ryli threw his sleeping pattern off more. He climbed out of bed and the tent careful not to disturb Ryli. Kairu could feel the cold dampness of the night. It was enough to make his toes start getting cold. He noticed Drake was already up. "Hey," Kairu said keeping his tone in check easily due to his grogginess.sigpic

Drake popped his head out of the tent when he heard Kairu. The easiest way to get over this is by talking to him. Drake decided.
"Hey." Drake replied, not knowing what else to say. "Did you sleep well?" Drake asked, curious if anything had haunted his dreams like Kairu had haunted Drake's. Maybe he doesn't have a problem with me. Maybe he does. I'll find out soon enough.Comment

A solemn look stayed on Kairu's face. "To be honest...," he said pausing for a sigh and stretch, "Not as well I hoped." He then turned his focus back to Castle Town, "Somethin tells me I am going to regret going there."sigpic
