Drake looked at Ryli. "You should get going before he gets too far." Drake told Ryli, who was still at the camp. Drake then looked at Malina. "Are you going to sleep the whole day?" Drake asked Malina, who seemed to be struggling. He hoped she wouldn't sleep, because he wanted to talk to Malina without interruptions while he could.

Malina wished Ryli and Kairu good luck, then settled herself on the grass. The sun felt good on her face as she relaxed. She did glance at Drake as he asked, teasingly, she suspected, if she would sleep all day. "Doubtful," she replied. "The horses pickets need to be moved so they can get some frsh grass. I also want to look over my potion book and my herb supply, just in case. Also need to eat breakfast, wash last night's dishes, and take down the tents." She sighed. "There seems like a lot I want to do and not enough time." She sat up and moved to the pile of saddlebags. "Need to straighten these," she grumbled as she search through them for a few particular herbs. "Can you put some water to boil, please?" she called over her shoulder. "There's a tea I can make that will help keep me awake, for a while at least."Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Drake did as Malina asked. Granted, he had some trouble doing it, because he had never done it before, but he eventually got it because he had seen other people do it before. He felt bad that Malina had to do a bunch of things, but he didn't really know/want to do those things either. Drake sighed. No rest for the farmboy.
"Water's ready when you need it." Drake told Malina, trying to hide the depression of knowing he would be bored very soon.Comment

"Thanks," Malina called. "Just need to find... Ah-hah!" She triumphantly pulled out some cardamom and thyme leaves. She tossed them into the water, then sat down, waiting for the tea to steep. She glanced over at Drake's horse and frowned. "What's his name? I recognize him, but I can't seem to remember his name. He should be picketed, otherwise he might run away. Drake shook his head. "No, no I don't." After a few moments of silence, Drake's curiosity got the best of him. "So, how did you meet up with Kairu and Ryli?" Drake asked, wanting to know why Kairu was Malina's guardian and why Ryli was with them.Comment

Malina chewed her lip. She thought she brought a spare line, but she couldn't remember. She decided she'd moved the other horses' lines, then sort through everything she had packed and take stock of what they'd need to get. She poured herself a cup; recovering her energy was the first thing on her list.
She grimaced, both at the taste and at Drake's question. "Well, Father brought Kairu back from the peace negotiations with Hyrule and Holodrum. He was dead, or nearly there, so when I heard, I set about brewing a potion to bring him back. It worked, but a side effect was that he became infatuated with me. Father gave him permission to court me.
"Ryli arrived later the same day. She turned out to be Kairu's lover, but because my potion wiped his memory, he had forgotten her. We managed to retrieve his memories, but Father had Ryli arrested, fearful that she was a spy because she's a Gerudo. He was going to execute her if she couldn't prove otherwise, so Kairu and I broke her out. That's when we ran"

Drake closed his eyes for a moment, keeping the feelings he was getting from remembering the past in check, and then he started. "Well, my brother ran away, my mother was killed, and my father left me. The farm was only a painful reminder of everything that happened. So I started visiting the city. Yesterday, I saw you and the others escaped, so I offered help. Your father sent me to capture you and kill the others, but I came because...I wanted to start over. To forget." Drake closed his eyes again. "But what I didn't realize is that I had no goal. No objective. I don't know what to do. So right now, I'm figuring it out." Drake opened his eyes. "Sorry if I seem serious right now, but the past is a sensitive subject for me."Comment

Malina shook her head. "Serious is all right. I perfectly understand what you mean about your past. There are a few things in my past that I'd rather not talk about." She rubbed Zylan's nose after moving his line. "You could always come with us. The only real goal we have right now is staying out of my father's reach. Kairu's going to check on his family and take care of them; Ryli's going to keep him safe. As for me, the only thing I want to do is learn magic." Drake was relieved Malina didn't have a bad reaction. That would've ruined his day.
"Magic? Interesting. But where are we going? Here doesn't seem that safe." Drake said, referring to Castle Town. In his mind, they either had to get farther away from the field while staying within the political boundaries of Hyrule or just get out of Hyrule. Termina would be the better choice, seeing as Holodrum might have some problems with a princess from an enemy land and they were clearly not going back to Labrynna. Maybe one day...but not anytime soon. Drake told himself, half of him wanting to go back and half of him wanting to find his brother and his father.Comment

Malina shrugged as she moved Black Heart's line and moved to deal with Outlaw's. "For now, it'll do. Hyrule is large enough that we should be hard enough to find. However, we might have to move somewhere else to keep my father's ttoops from coming here and causing a war. War with Hyrule would not be wise." She hammered the picketting stake into the ground, then moved to the saddlebags. As she started sorting through them, and pulling out some food for her breakfast, she said, "We'd have to find a country too far for the baron to send troops. There might be something north of Hyrule and Holodrum, past that mountain range. Or maybe something east of Hyrule, or west of Termina, across the sea. An image flashed before Drake's eyes when he heard Termina, and he jumped back. The image was of two faces, but he didn't know who they belonged to because it went by too quick. Drake thought he shouldn't go to Termina, but thinking about the place gave him a good feeling. Drake quickly shook his head to jump back into reality and focus.
"Yeah...that...uh...Termina place sounds great." Drake said, not knowing what else he could say. He was still very confused by the image he saw when he heard Termina and why it gave him a good feeling. All he knew is that he wanted to go to Termina.Comment

Malina yanked the spare pickett line from a saddlebag. "Knew I had packed one," she muttered, then stood and approached Drake's horse. (btw, what does it look like? Is it male, female, or neutered? And did you want to name it?) She picketted it, then turned to Drake. "Termina might be too close. I'm not sure. Labrynna never had much contact with it, so it might be difficult enough to get to from there. However, if it isn't, Labrynna might become embroiled in another war. I would rather not be the cause of a war because my father couldn't let me go." She sighed and went back to the packs. "You act as if they know where we are." Drake said. "It was by pure luck I found you. It was some major guesswork, really. You guys would've really thrown me off course if you went a different direction." Drake calmed down, knowing that his anger was building up. Why do I keep getting like this? Something's wrong....
Besides, my father told me that if we ever needed to get out of Labrynna, we had some friends there that could help us with whatever we needed...." And that's when Drake realized something.

Malina snorted. "Obviously they don't know where we are, or they'd be here already. No, I'm more concerned that my father's trackers will find me, or that he'll send bounty hunters after me. If whoever he sends is spotted by the natives and their orgin discovered, it will cause a war."
She was about to continue her lecture, calling to mind the many lessons Adriel had drilled into her about politics, when Drake exclaimed about his brother. She jumped, dropping the leaves she had been sorting. She scowled and gathered them back up. "What makes you think that?" she asked irritably. "If he's been gone for a while, why do you only now think he went to Termina?"
