  • Kairu was watching Malina, despite his pain. Ryli was lagging behind and he assumed she wanted fresh hair and let everything sink in. It was a natural feeling, he assumed. He never had the issue, looking into Leo's eyes was enough evidence for him. He noticed how Malina did her thing where something was going on. A trail in her voice and a sort of unfocused look to her. "Malina, could you come here? I need to ask you something in private."

Kairu tried to get up, but was met with the sharp pain in his lungs. The smoke and ash was still a little thick, but fortunately, not life threatening. Just painful.

    • Malina sighed and stood, careful not to drop her book this time. She held it under her arm as she moved to Kairu's side. She sent sharp glares to Leo and Drake as well, to make sure they didn't try listening in. "What's the matter, Kairu?" she asked softly. She didn't like the way his face had creased with pain when he had tried to stand. He looked alright, other than the ash and soot on his clothes and face, but that wouldn't cause him to hurt. At least, she didn't think it would.

      • "What are you thinking? I can tell that you are up to something. Please, just let me know." Kairu wrapped his hand around the back of Malina's neck. He brought her in close and kissed her neck. Kairu felt a betrayal in his heart. He knew it was wrong and there was a part of him that needed to do it, he just couldn't help it. Was it just the memory potion intensifying, or was this his real nature?

        • Malina flinched away slightly as Kairu kissed her neck, her eyes wide as she looked around for Ryli. Please don't let her have seen that! she silently pleaded. "I'm trying to come up with some way to make him realize that magic is real and deserves to be respected, not something that can be ignored as 'hereasy'," she whispered back. "I know he's close to you, but I don't know him at all, and he needs to understand that magic is all I have left. By disrespecting it, he's disrespecting me, and Ryli because of her use of it." Gently, she lifted his hand from her neck and set it next to her. "Are you going to be alright? Do you want me to brew you a tea or something?" she asked, trying to smother the anger from Leo's words with her worry for Kairu.

          • "I just want... to be gone. I want to die." Kairu was still quiet and whispered. He let his eyes do more of the empathy.than his words. He knew that it was up to the eyes to speak his mind.

            • Malina's mouth drops in shock. She can understand his greif, but to die from it? "But Ryli..." her voice trails off. His love for Ryli is strong, true, but was it really strong enough? Instead, she set her jaw determinedly and placed her book on her lap. There had been a potion she had read earlier, one that might help. It was a true potion, unlike her other ones, as it required words of power to be spoken over it at specific stages. It also required the moon's light when used, and blood. It would work, though. It should. "Kairu," she said softly as she sped through the book. "They wouldn't want you to die. They would want you to live, to revel in the life cut short for them. The best way to remember them is to celebrate what time you did have with. It's what they'd want. And if you don't believe me," she added quickly before he could protest, "I can summon their sprits so you can ask them yourself." She turned the book to face him.

              Potion of Summoning

When brewed correctly, pour this potion on the ground at night, speak the name of the sprit you wish to summon, and offer blood. The spirit will come to you, but be warned. It might not be the only one, for spirits yearn for the taste of blood.

(I'll come up with the actual potion recipe later.)

              • "No. Leave them be. I know what I want." Although Kairu knew what he wanted to give up, a part of him didn't. It was that small voice in the back of his head that agreed with Malina and her wisdom. Kairu dismissed the voice away, replacing it with his somber death wish.

                • Malina allowed her book to fall onto her lap and grabbed Kairu's hand in both of hers. "Are you sure that's what you want?" she asked, her voice deceptively calm. "You have your son, albeit from another Hyrule. You have Ryli, who crossed two countries to find you. And you have me, who brought you back from the dead. You want to leave us for two people who died? You want to take the 'easy', the selfish, way out of greif?" She shook her head. "Kairu, I left my family, my home, even my country, to help you. I left everything I love and care about, for you and Ryli. I don't know when I'll be able to return, if ever. My heart mourns what I've lost, and it is all I can do to keep my feet going.
"But you. You lost your wife and son. Your son comes back in a different form; your friend Ryli has already made it clear that she would accept being your wife. You have people willing and able to fill the gaps left behind by those you've lost. I have no such luxury. And yet you want to die? You want to hurt those who love you, simply because you hurt?"
She knew she was being cruel, but is was necessary. "If you want to regardless of what would happens to Leo and Ryli, think about me. I brought you back to life; I did a treasonous act for your love. You owe me, Kairu. Your life is really mine, because I lost everything for your sake. No matter how much you wish to die, you cannot kill yourself until you have settled your debt to me. If you still do when that time comes, then I will help you. I will brew you an elixir that will kill seconds after you have drunken it."
She rubbed his hand and allowed her voice and stern glare to soften. "Until then, try to find the joy of life again. Love Ryli, get to know Leo. Visit the far-away places you've always dreamed to. See if you can repair your heart with Ryli." Then, not sure if his love for Ryli, on top of everything she had already said, would be enough, she leaned forward and kissed his lips. She knew this would enflame her revival potion's effect. She wanted it to, so that the forced love for her would keep him around, even if she didn't want to deal with it after. "Live for me," she breathed as she backed off. Privately, she hoped Ryli hadn't seen.

                  • *Ryli returns from "Something Darker"*

Ryli had been lagging behind, crushed by what she had seen in Castle Town. As she approached the camp, she saw Kairu kiss Malina on the neck, and then Malina kiss him a few moments later. Her temerature dropped dramatically with her sorrow, causing her to see her breath and her lips to turn blue. She felt her emotional ties she had with Kairu begin to sever as she felt like he had officailly chosen her. She looked down as she approached, trying to hide her pale face and blue lips from the others. This is not the time to confront him about this or make him worry about me, his son just died, and I need to be there for him, Ryli told herself as she was finally in the midst of the group.

                    • Kairu broke down and cried. He knew Ryli would be furious if she saw the conversation they were having. He knew Malina was right, despite his nature, Kairu was obligated to repay his debt to her. He also wished Malina was wrong, but he knew she wasn't. He had just as much, if not more than he did. It didn't justify the death of his family, but it was something to help fill the new empty holes. Ryli had even wished for Leo's version of them come true.

When it came down to it, maybe it was time for Kairu to quit adventuring and settle down with Ryli. Have Leo join the family picture and make a newfamily of thier own. But what about Malina? Kairu was almost certain that Malina wanted Kairu. Maybe not as bad as Ryli, but it was there. E almost believed they were simply using the potion to cover up their true feelings knowing that any relationship they have would be destructive to others, like Ryli.

                      • Malina settled back on her heels, frowning a bit uncertainly at Kairu's tears. Did they mean he had changed his mind? Accepted her deal? Or something else altogether? She didn't know, and he wasn't giving her any indication as to their meaning. She decided to leave him alone, to think it over for a while, and grabbed her book. She also grabbed his sword (he has one, right?), in case he tried to kill himself while her back was turned, and walked away. She had only gone a few paces when she noticed Ryli. She froze. The Gerudo's normally dark complexion was pale, and her lips were blue with cold. She saw me, didn't she. Malina swore softly and walked over to her friend. "He really does love you," she murmured. "I'm sorry for what I did; I shouldn't have. I only did because he needed a woman, and you weren't there." She planted Kairu's sword at Ryli's feet, then walked off, trying to put distance between herself and the rest of the group. She felt as if she was caught up in others' emotional battles, while trying to fight one of her own.

                        • Kairu had looked up to see who Malina was talking to, and realized that he was probably in a lot of trouble with Ryli. A large portion of him didn't care and he felt that there was supposed to be a decision where Kairu had to choose one woman over the other, they couldn't all keep competing like they were, and this would surely be the last straw.

                          • Ryli brandished Kairu's sword. It was much larger and heavier than her own, but she liked it. She brought it over to him. "Here, I don't know why she gave this to me," she said quietly. She wasn't going to mention what she saw right away. She knew Kairu couldn't handle it and honestly, she couldn't handle it either. How dare Malina say what she said... That he 'needed a woman' and I wasn't there... I'm always here... He was the one who is no longer here for me it seems.... Ryli closed her eyes for a moment, holding back tears. She gave Kairu a big hug, his body hot against her icy coolness. "I'm sorry about everything Kairu. We'll figure this out."

                            • Kairu sat there quietly. "She took it because I don't want to live anymore. She felt it was better to not let me have access to the means."

                              • Malina sat down with her back to the rest of the group, laying her book on her crossed legs. She opened it to a random page and started reading, but she didn't absorb much from the page. She was too upset, her eyes filling with tears at the emotional turmoil going on in her mind. Only yesterday she had left everything she knew and held dear, except Zylan. Now she wasstuck in between two lovers, all because of a stupid potion, whose effect she just had to enflame to keep Kairu from killing himself. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she wept. "Oh, Daddy, I wish you were here now," she sobbed. "You'd know what to do. You'd know how to deal with this."
But he wasn't there. She had only her own mind to rely on. She was only 16! How was she supposed to be able to deal with all this? How was she supposed to deal with an unwanted lover and his jealous girlfriend? She could court him, but nothing would come of it but heartache. She was a princess, after all. Her marriage would have to be benfitional to her country, and her husband would have to be strong enough to help her take and keep her throne. Kairu might be strong enough, but she wasn't willing to take the accompanying bagge(sp). Maybe it would be better if she split off from them, take the temptation away. If she struck out on her own, she'd be able to do whatever she wanted in her quest for magical knowledge. But she'd also be vulnerable to any attackers. She could fight with her rapier, sure, but she wasn't skilled enough to defeat any serious attackers.
"Oh, Daddy, what should I do? What can I do?"
