Drake took a while to consider it, but he finally agreed. "Fine, I'll let you two handle this job alone." Drake then sat back down, but he was dissapointed. He had really wanted to do something for the group, but it would have to wait.

Malina bit her lip, but she made no protests as she set her book carefully on the ground. She followed Leo as they walked off, wondering what it was he wanted to talk to her about. Please don't have him try talking to me about Kairu, she breathed. I don't want much else to do with him. Leo looked at Drake being disappointed. "If you want, prepare the food for our suppers. I doubt Miss Ryli and Father would be willing to work together and do it. And I know the Princess and I will appreciate it very much." Leo turned trying to be as cordial as he could. He then stood to face the south and Ordona. "We should be back within an hour." He then made his way, only stopping to face Malina hoping she would follow in tow.sigpic

Drake smiled when Leo talked about cooking. "Alright, sounds good. I'll see if I can get something yummy ready before you get back." Drake went back to the camp and got to work. Now that he was familiar to the tools available to him and what he had, cooking a meal wouldn't be a problem. Drake gathered all he would need (only taking from the food supply he brought with him, of course) and got to work.Comment

Malina followed Leo hesitantly, her mannerism very different from the woman he had met earlier that day. Earlier, she had been plotting some jynx as punishment for insulting magic. Now her mind was on other matters. "So, wnhat were you wanting to talk about?" she asked softly when they were a little ways from the others. "Please don't ask to talk about your father and Ryli. I don't think I could handle it." She rubbed at one of eyes, which was irritated from the dried tears on her lashes. She gave a laugh, almost hysterical. "Not very princessy today, am I. I haven't cried since I hurt Zylan riding so badly I couldn't ride him, and that was years ago."Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Leo chuckled. "Well I guess that means we won't be taking much since you don't want to discuss the situation. However, I am a horserider. My mother was a natural on a horse and she was amazing. She never could get Father to try it. He always fumbled and got himself hurt."sigpic

Malina giggled. "I managed to get him on a horse when we were planning to leave Labrynna, so I could see how well he could ride. He had trouble getting on at all, and he looked like a bale of hay siting there. We didn't even go riding; we simply decided to let Ryli do the riding and him ride behind her. Leo smiled at Malina just trying to picture his father struggling to get on a horse. "I guess despite the differences between worlds, some things just never change." Leo kept his thoughts to himself, but he needed to ask Malina about her opinion on a question he had in mind. It was important to him that his question be asked.sigpic

"Time and distance never seem to change much," Malina said wistfully. Her father was still the general of the army, and his mind still was focused on war. It might have been years since he had been on the field, but still. She sighed and pushed the thoughts from her mind. When I'm queen, Labrynna won't have to worry about war anymore, she silently vowed. She set her shoulders back and forced herself to walk more firmly. I'm a princess. I might be banished from my throne, but I am still the future queen of Labrynna. Determined not to show any more weakness, she turned to Leo. Malina blinked in surprise. Did he really just say what she thought he had? That Kairu would chose her? "But- but he and Ryli-?" ...haven't been doing so well together since I showed up. She bit her lip, trying to think. Could she love Kairu? "I don't know," she finally answered. "I would care for him and treat him as he deserves, but love him? I don't know. Right now, my only love is for my country and my magic. Even after I upon my throne, I think he might still only be a partner or protector to me. Not a lover." She rubbed her temple. "And I'm not sure I could take him even if I could love him. If I am to take back my throne, I need a strong man on my arm, who will have the armies and money to back me until my crown is secured." She sighed. "Then let him, Miss Ryli, and your countryman help you. They have assets that may prove useful to you. Ryli is a Gerudo, which immediately makes her a warrior for her people, by birthright, and then some. Kairu, Father... was a barely competent soldier, but I see he's been promoted once or twice, so he may have connections. He could even rally the Hylian soldiers together with the Castle's fall. Your countryman said he may have connections in Termina. You may be lucky enough to have soldiers for rallying behind.
"Princess, I know Kairu well enough to know that he will remain faithful to you. I can just feel it in my bones. He will be there for you until the day he dies. Protector, lover, bodyguard, whatever title you suit him with. I have faith in the Goddesses that he will help you reclaim Labrynna and be there to let you rule it. Even I may be able to crossover and retrieve some tech or soldiers to help you."
Leo was almost finished with his plead.
"Princess, I can just tell you and him are meant to be together. After all, you saved his life twice. More than anything anyone has ever done for you. And he is honorable. "I know he can be good for me but-" she stopped abruptly and narrowed her eyes. "Did I hear you right? Did you say he'd be 'faithful' to me? I don't know about your Kairu, but I happen to know this Kairu walked out on his wife to be with Ryli. If he walks out on her to be with me, then he's not the man for me. How do I know he won't find some prettier girl than me that he likes better and leaves me for her? Hmmm? Faithful?" She snorted. "I can trust him to be my bodyguard; I can use him to retrieve my throne. But I will not entrust my heart to a man who has already betrayed once and will have to betray again to be with me. I will not accept a man who won't stay with me if another woman comes along simply. I refuse to have such a faithless man as my husband and as king of my people.
"All those things you mentioned that he can do for me? He doesn't have to be my husband to do them for me. As you said, he already owes me his life. He will help me claim my throne back simply because of that. I can trust him to help me take my crown. I can trust him to keep me aliveand safe. But to stay faithful to me, and me alone? Never. Not him. If he leaves Ryli to be with me, I will not take him. Leaving her will prove he is not the man for me, and never will be. A tiger doesn't change its stripes." She folded her arms. "He can help me take my throne and repay his debt to me without having to leave Ryli, and I will refuse anything to do with him if he leaves her for me. His feelings for me will fade just as they apperently have for Ryli if he is thinking of leaving her, as they had for your mother when he left her for Ryli. His feelings for me aren't even real to begin with. They're the effect of a stupid potion, an illusion created by magic.
"Maybe you don't believe in magic, so maybe you think those feelings are real. Let me tell you something. Magic is real; its effects are real; the emotions stirred up by them? Not real. False. They're just illusions, lies. And nothing on this whole world will ever make them real. He will only stay faithful to me until another woman comes along with better prospects than me. So next time you try to sell a man off to a woman, make sure you know exactly who you're talking about." Leo ran up behind her, swinging in front of her. He held her shoulders hoping she would stop again. "Princess... the feelings may be false for you, but to him, they are real. To him, that magic is true feelings, and he will go with is instinct in what he has in his heart, even if the reality is saying otherwise. I hope, for his sake, he doesn't choose between you, but for Goddess' sake, please give him a chance."sigpic

She stopped and glared down at him. "No. Magic or no magic, I will not take a husband whose feelings are false. I will find a way to break the magical lure, as I swore to do when I first discovered it. If I have to break him into pieces to keep him from leaving Ryli, then that is what I'll do." She pushed his arms off. "When I marry someone, it will because he will be faithful to me. I don't care if he loves me; I've known all my life that my king doesn't need to love me. But he will not go into another woman's bed, he will not leave me and my country because a pretty pair of legs, and he most certainly will not be attracted to me because of a spell!" She crossed her arms. "Now if you will excuse me, peasant, I believe we have a job to be doing." She internally winced at the word peasant, as she had never used it on another person before, but she wouldn't apologize.
