  • Joshua's entrance

Joshua walked down the beach, looking down into the water. He wondered how much fish would be close enough to shore for him to catch. He drew his bow and knocked an arrow. He pulled it back smoothly and shot it further inland. He wasn't showing off, as there was no one to show off to. He was just bored and wanted something to do.
The wolf howls his mournful song,
My heart beats as I listen to him.
It rises and falls as he speaks to the moon,
A chilling howl that fills me with joy.

Sephira was surprised to find her wandering flight had taken her to Lake Hylia. It was a beautiful lake, but she didn't like water in her phoenix form. When it got into her feathers, she always felt dampened on the inside, as if someone was pouring water on her inner flame. And when it got in her feathers, it was very hard to fly. She was actually very surprised that she shifted in that rainstorm.
Sephira started a circling flight, enjoying the beautiful view below her. She sighed happily, then started to circle down. She would find some place to land and rest a while, then she would fly back to James and get her clothes, before she shifted again.
Suddenly, she felt something pierce her wing and screeched with pain. The shock was so fierce she stopped flying. All she could do was plumment to the water below her as she tried to snap the arrow with her beak, burn it, something to get rid of it. She screeched again, this time with frustration and fear as well, as she hit the water with a large splash.

Joshua started to walk after his arrow, but then he realized he had shot it too far. It would be too hard to find once it cut into the water. He sighed, there went a perfectly good arrow.
Suddenly, a screech filled the air. Joshua looked up and saw a red-orange bird falling from the sky. He immediatly ran after it, wanting to help it. He waded into the water and picked it up. It was surprised at how large it was, but he was upset when he spotted why it fell. An arrow had pierced its wing. His arrow.
Carefully, he carried the bird to shore and laid it down carefully. He snapped the arrow and drew the two ends from its wing, then bandaged it up with the few bandages he had in his pack. He patted its head. "Don't worry, dear one. You'll be fine."

Sephira watched the human carefully. She didn't like being caught in her phoenix form, especially since her coloring was so rare and valuable, but this human seemed to be okay. She stood up carefully as he finished treating her. She wasn't used to standing in this form, and she wobbled rather dangerously. She spread her wings to keep her balance, flinching as her wounded one protested.
When she finally had her balance she looked at the human. He seemed nice enough, but she would rather get back to Kakariko than stay with him very long. She started to fly, but her wing refused to. She flinched, then tucked it tightly to her side, hissing in frustration. Looks like she'd be stuck with him for awhile.

Joshua watched the bird as it got used to being on land. It was a pretty bird, but it was large, reaching to about his chest. It opened its wings to fly, but apperently its wounded wing wouldn't let it. Joshua caught it as it stumbled again. "Be careful. We wouldn't want you to get hurt again."

Sephira trilled slightly at the man. He had a gentle touch, but she could feel the callussed hands through her feathers. She twisted out of his grip and looked his hands over. She nodded to herself in confermation. He had the hands of an archer, of a hunter. She looked up at him. He seemed much too sweet to be a poacher. Maybe she could stick with him for a while. She glanced to the north. She had to get back to Kakariko.

Joshua watched the bird examain his hands. It surprised him that it was an intelligent bird. Then it struck him. This was a phoenix! He felt even more upset when he realized this. It was a beautiful and rare bird, and he had struck it with an arrow. He watched it turn to the north. He turned that way too, but he couldn't see anything. He turned back. "Are you looking for something? Or is that where you need to go?"

Sephira jerked her head over to regard him. She cocked her head, wondering if she could try speaking with him, but decided against it. She was still learning her own language, trying to communicate with him that way would be a foolish thing to do. She hopped closer to shore, aiming to reach the dirt so she could write. However, she still hadn't perfected her balance and tumbled.

Joshua stared into the bird's golden eyes before it turned and started hopping down to the lake. He got up to follow it, wondering why it was going to the shore. When it stumbled, he reached out and caught it, then picked it up and carried it in his arms down to the edge of the water. He stroked it as he asked, "What are you doing, little one?"

Sephira settled into his arms for a minute, then struggled out of his grip. When he let go, she landed rather ungracefully on the sand. She pulled herself to her feet and attempted to balance on one leg. She was okay for a little while, but she knew she would have to be fast. With one talon, she quickly wrote in the dirt "Kakariko, must go". She then looked up at the human.

Joshua let the phoenix go as soon as it started to struggle down and watched as it started to write in the dirt. He was surprised it knew how to write, but he kept his mouth shut and watched. When it stopped and looked up at him, he read what it had written. "You need to go to Kakariko Village?" The bird nodded. "What's over there?"

Sephira rolled her eyes. "Houses. People. Animals. Streets. Take your pick." Of course, her words were just chirps and tweets, but she didn't care. She hopped on alternating legs, trying to get it across that she had to go now.

Joshua smiled at the phoenix, taking note of its impatience. "Alright. Let me grab my stuff, then we can go." The bird chirped happily. Joshua smiled, then picked it up and carried it back to where his pack lay where he had tossed it. He set the phoenix down, then started to go through his stuff, making it as neat as possible and as soft on the top as he could. Then he pulled it onto his back and set the phoenix on the top. "You stay right there. I'll get you to Kakariko as soon as I can."

Sephira settled herself down on his pack. It was a little bumpy, but she could manage. Now all she had to do was wait for them to get to Kakariko. Then she would be able to shift to her more comfortable human form.
