  • The Holodrum/Labrynna Conflict

The front lines of the Hylian Army marched into Ordona Woods. They were exhausted and tired from the constant marching. It was nearly sunset and Ordona Woods wasn't a place known for its pleasantries at nightfall. Kairu looked around panicky and felt he was being stalked by something. Beads of sweat ran down the side of his face under the helmet. Colonel Autumn allowed the army to rest for an hour until they marched again.

    MEANWHILE

Adriel was now caught up to his army, they pressed through Lynx Caverns and were now, indesputably, in Hyrule. Adriel ordered his army to stop and sent a scout ahead to see the progress of Hyrule and Holodrum. He wanted no surprises. Especially in unfamiliar territory.

Adriel's scouts returned to him with their reports. "Sir, Hyrule is already here. They've established a forward command post about 40 klicks to the southeast. The bulk of their forces are about 25 klicks to the northeast. They've taken rest."
"Good work men, go home and rest. You've earned it," Adriel said praising his scouts. He then followed suit with Colonel Autumn of Hyrule and ordered his men to rest.

Morning dawned on the forest with the sound of a morningtime orchestra of the local wildlife of the forest. Adriel, who made camp up on a small cliff that elevated him a couple feet above his army, stepped out of his tent and yawned. Many of his soldiers were already up and awake, getting ready to mobilize. Adriel walked down to a stream that passed nearby. Two bulky men stepped next to Adriel and kept pace as the Baron took a few steps. "The security is not needed. I will be fine," Adriel said, subliminally ordering the men to be relieved from guard duty. Adriel continued to the stream and kneeled down and took a drink and rinsed his face.

He looked up to see a man downstream several yards who was doing the same. Adriel walked towards the man and the stranger freaked out for a moment, unsure what to think about Adriel. He noted the trim armor and shininess of it.

"You're a King, aren't you?" the stranger asked Adriel.
"I prefer, Baron. But yes, that assumption is correct. How could you tell?" Adriel said, now taking note of the strangers armor. He wore chainmail and held a broadsword at the side, currently sheathed. He noted the man's brown light, messy hair and his piercing eye color.
      "Intuition," the stranger replied.
"What's your name, Soldier?" Adriel asked the stranger.
"Kairu. May I ask for yours, Your Majesty?" Kairu said politely. He knew that the men were soon to be enemies on the battlefield. But he felt that since the coincidental meeting next to a stream in the middle of the woods wasn't really a battlefield, he should be courteous to the Royal Figure.
"It's flattering hear a soon to be enemy refer to me with such politeness. I'm Adriel Cyne of Labrynna. Humor me, Kairu, does it bother you that we are going to be opponents on the battlefield come midday?" Adriel asked curiously.
"No, Sir. As a leader of a country, you still earn respect from me, regardless of your position on the battlefield. I don't know much about you, but your posture shows that you have the respect of your country and that you are no stranger to the blade."
There was now yelling throughout the woods.
"Please excuse me, Sir, but it looks like I must return to my army. I hope we don't meet in battle. You seem like a nice person. I'd hate to have to fulfill my oath to my country with you as my quote-unquote victim," and with that Kairu bowed and ran back to his camp.
Adriel stood there dumbfounded. He didn't realize that there was still polite people in all of the world. He returned to his camp and began making preparations based on the attitude and words of this soldier.

Gerard followed Leo until they were in extreme south Hyrule. The terrain was starting to get woody when Gerrard started to ask a question. "Where exactly are we going?"

"We are going to find this war that the townsfolk were talking about," Leo said softly and carefully, focusing more on the sounds in the forest. He heard a faint "clanking" sound and signaled for Gerrard to stay quiet. He sneaked over behind a large, knocked down tree trunk. He peered over and behind the tree trunk was a drop overlooking the entire Labrynna Army. Leo repeated the silence signal and motioned him to move forward. Leo continued to peer over as he saw Adriel enter the camp with the bodyguards. Many of the other soldiers went to full attention as Adriel passed only to be told "at ease". Adriel made his way to the camp's cook and grabbed a bowl. He made it clear that he was a soldier, not a leader in the camp. The cook knowingly sploshed a ladle full of 'rations' into the bowl. Adriel thanked the cook despite knowing the rations tasted terrible. He took a seat next to some soldiers and started up a friendly conversation and getting to know his comrades.

Gerrard had mixed emotions at this moment, he wanted to stay with Leo but deep inside he had a different emotion. He had betrayed Sephira and them, after they had partway forgave him for those dark horrible times. Then something came to his mind, what if he just abandoned? What damage could it do? After a few more minutes of sitting there he snuck off, on his way to Kakariko

Leo turned to see Gerrard leave, "Pathetic fool," he mumbled to himself. "Just wait until I find you..." He looked at Labrynnian Army and they started to pack up camp.

After about an hour later both armies, Hyrule and Labrynna were mobilized again continuing their press towards the spot where Holodrum was fortified in its position. It wasn't until about midday that the three armies met up with each other. Labrynna, however got there first. Adriel order his archers to use the trees as cover and instead of shooting up, to shoot forward, dawning "guerrilla warfare". Adriel's plan worked and the archers caught the outer guards and scout completely off-guard. The archers moved behind the trees and when several Holodrum soldiers came to check on the outer posts, they were shocked at the sight. Adriel ordered another volley to kill the other soldiers. Adriel then ordered the archers to open fire on the entire encampment. Holodrum retaliated by having its soldiers to blindly charge into the forest where Adriel's soldiers were hiding behind the trees and they killed them as they ran by. Little did either of the two armies know is that Hyrule was watching the turn of events. Kairu was horrified by Adriel's tactics. He thought that the tactics were too barbaric. He felt fear well up inside his throat.

The battle raged between Holodrum and Labrynna. Hyrule waited until nightfall to strike, when both armies were weakened from fighting each other. Adriel, who was now at the rear of his army, was wondering when the Hylians would strike. 'Could the intel be wrong?' he thought to himself. It wasn't until a scout returned to Adriel to inform him of Hyrule's sneak attack. Leo, who was watching Adriel from behind a tree started to move swiftly through the trees towards the frontlines of battle. He was going to make sure he killed Kairu before an enemy of Hyrule did. Kairu, who was at the front of the battle was doing rather well. He managed to kill two captains of Labrynna, one sergeant of Holodrum and several grunts.

Adriel sent out to messengers to the opposing commanding officers. When all three force ceased fire at Labrynna's request, Adriel, on his stallion, rode to the epicenter of the battle to talk to the COs. A tent was setup to negotiate peace. Both Hyrule and Holodrum were angry at Adriel's guerrilla tactics and the violation of battle. Adriel disregarded their distaste of his tactics and pressed the issue of trade rights and to settle the conflict between Holodrum and Labrynna, with Hyrule's Colonel Autumn being the host negotiator, due to native land rights.

Peace talks continued as the cold midnight chill swept through the camps. Leo managed to suit up as a Labrynnian soldier. He bobbed and weaved through the Regime and tracked down Kairu, who was sitting around a campfire trying to keep warm.

He stood up, "I'm gonna go a take a leak, I'll be right back," he said telling a soldier, and friend, next to him.

"I'll go with you," the friend replied.

"It's no need. I have confidence that these peace talks will succeed," he spoke as if he knew what was going to happen.

Kairu disappeared into the dark and found a place just out of sight and began to urinate. Leo stepped out in front of him, his face showing, the two blue crystal eyes meeting. Kairu knew instantly by the looks who it looked like, but he doubted it.

"It's impossible! You can't be me!" Kairu said rather horrified.

"No, Father, I'm not you. Don't you recognize your own son?" Leo toyed sadistically.

"How can that be? It's only been a month and a half, two months at best since I last saw you! You are still suppose to be nine years old!" fear still in Kairu's voice. 'Maybe I should have came with an escort,' Kairu thought to himself.

"You see? I am, but I'm not, your son. I am not the one who lives here. I'm... visiting, if you will. My mission is clear. You are to pay for the pain you and the wife of yours put me through," Leo now changing his tone to convictions.

"Who? Ryli?" Kairu said now on the defensive. "You hurt her, and I'll kill-," his voice cutting off. Blood now starting to fill up in his throat and overflow out of his mouth. He looked down to see Leo sticking his sword through his own stomach. His eyes showed sorrow and misery of what did, or would, become of Leo. All he could think was how sorry he was, but his body was already rejecting commands. Kairu collapsed to the ground, the sword still through his gut. His mind was still alive, as he saw Leo disappear into the darkness. He started to feel colder than he did before. 'My body... I'm dying...,' he thought consciously recognizing his mortality. 'How could my own son, my own child, kill me? I'm so sorry Ryl-,' Kairu couldn't finish. His vision quickly flooding with black until his mind finally gave up. Kairu laid on the cold, damp, forest floor. A sword clear through his stomach and whole body. Blood covering his clothes, the sword, and the ground. There he was, dead.

Kairu's friend happened to have gotten just in sight of Leo stabbing Kairu. The shadows, however, obscured Leo's face at a distance. All that the soldier saw was the Labrynnian armor Leo wore. He ran back to the Hylian camp yelling the cease fire was violated and that Labrynna just attacked. Autumn and the Holodrum CO looked at Adriel with conviction and left the tent, with Adriel close behind. They fled to the security of their armies. The battle continued to rage with Kairu now bleeding to death on the forest floor and Leo disappearing into the woods.

Adriel proceeded back to the security of the mass of his army, but first, he wanted to find who the soldier was that was killed during a cease fire. He had doubts that it was one of his own men who'd violate the honor of a cease fire. He started to feel doubtful when he finally found what he was looking for, the body of Kairu. Adriel ordered two of his men to bring him back to their camp. He felt that a good soul like Kairu's was too early to leave the world. The men carried him to their medical tent at the far back of the battlefield. The doctors tried to stay at it, but being a field hospital didn't help them too much.

Morning came and Adriel could see that his men, as well as the rest of the armies were all discouraged, wounded, and fatigued. Adriel considered staying and fighting, but he figured he'd be the bigger man and call for a retreat. He ordered for the medical and support staffs to leave first, and then the soldiers behind them. In the matter of an hour, the Labrynna Regime had retreated, again. Colonel Autumn insisted that they stand their ground, but instead, he wanted to try one more diplomatic approach. He sat down with the commanding CO of Holodrum and they worked out a treaty which allows Holodrum to occupy Ordona, but Holodrum is not allowed to stop civilians at any checkpoint. Completed with the results of this treaty, Colonel Autumn ordered his men to go home.

Kairu's friend went to where he left Kairu's body, but it vanished. He cursed under his breath at followed the crowd. 'His girlfriend is not going to be happy...'
