Gavan stopped just outside the throne room. He could hear voices, and recognized them as the Baron's and two of his Legates'. He hesitated, then shrugged. He was trusted enough to guard the Baron's daughter, he could be allowed into a military meeting. Especially if they were meeting in the throne room instead of the Baron's private office. He walked in and up to the throne. He bowed his head, then addressed the Baron. "I apologize if I am interrupting, lord, but I must speak with you."

"Very well, Gavan. Leave us," Adriel said dismissing his Legates. "Come, walk with me." Adriel led the way through a stroll of the castle. "Gavan, are you alright? You look worried," he asked, genuinely concerned, as if Gavan was his own son.sigpic

Gavan followed the Baron out of the room. He drummed his sword hilt while trying to broach the subject with him. However, the Baron seemed to read his mind. Gavan smiled at the question. "Actually, there is something bugging me. Are you really going to war?"The wolf howls his mournful song,

Adriel stopped and sighed. "Gavan, I hope you are able to understand. Hyrule is getting into this conflict as well. It's no longer the same war that we've been fighting any more. Back in my youth, my Master once said: "It's easy to be comfortable fighting the same enemies you're used to. Once something changes, you become uncomfortable and panic." I'm going as a sign of peace between Hyrule and Labrynna. I plan to discuss that I didn't plan to cut their supply line. However, there is always the chance negotiations will fail. I hope they don't but it's always possible. I want you and Malina to stay here and be safe. Should something happen to me, I want you to promise me you will remain by her side forever and be her shield, if needed. Should I die, she becomes Queen. I've been in war, I know battles. I will not lose," Adriel concluded.sigpic

Gavan nodded his understanding. "I will do what I can, lord. However, you had best tell her you're leaving. She will not like to hear it from the servants' gossip, and there is always the chance she will insist on riding after you." After a few minutes, he added, "If you would like, sir, I can take her to Termina. That way she will be away from all this conflict."The wolf howls his mournful song,

"No. Termina seems fine from the conflict, but I doubt that will be the same for long. War seems to invite itself to those who don't want it. Keeping her here at the palace is the best spot for her," Adriel thought. Although he liked the idea of Malina being as far from the conflict as possible, he felt that the palace is the safest place for her. "If you will excuse me Gavan, I will go speak to Malina now. The time is near for me to ride towards the battlefield."sigpic

Adriel approached Malina's bedroom door. He knocked and opened it slightly. "Malina, are you able to talk?" he asked. He was hoping that the conversation would be her not begging him to stay, but he felt Malina wouldask him to stay.sigpic

Malina glanced up as she heard her father's voice and knock. She was sitting at her dressing table braiding her hair. While normally she prefered a ponytail, she felt like a brai today. She called, "Just a minute, Dad. I'm almost done with this braid." She finished the braid, then grabbed a small ribbon and tied it around the end. Flippin' it over her shoulder, she walked to the door and opened it. Malina stepped back and looked searchingly in her father's face. Something there worried her, so she gestured to the two chairs near her fireplace. "Have a seat then. Shall I have a servent bring us breakfast? Or were you up at the crack of dawn again?" "I'm fine, Malina. Thank you though. My Child, the war has called me again. Hyrule is sending over half of its army as relief in Ordona. If I know Holodrum, they're going to send more troops to prevent Hyrule from conquering them. I'm going to see if I can convince Hyrule to maintain a neutral role in the war. As much of a valuable asset as they would be to us if I could get them to side with us, I feel that it would be in our better interests to keep them out. I don't want you to worry. I'll be fine. I would like you to stay here in the palace. Gavan suggested you go to Termina, but if Hyrule goes to war with us, so could Termina. I don't want you to be there if they do. Malina sat down in the chair with a thump and stared up at her father. She knew he would be bringing this message to her eventually, but she had hoped it wouldn't be for a while yet. She had hoped she would still be able to get up in the morning and go to bed in the evening knowing her father was still safe. She turned to look out the window above her bed on the opposite side of the room. "Dad," she began slowly. She looked back at him, tears starting to well in her eyes. "Please stay safe." She stood and ran over to hug him. She clutched him tightly, praying that she wouldn't have to let go, for she knew that when she did, he would be leaving. Malina choked out a laugh. "I'll notice. But I suppose Gavan and Zylan will distract me enough. I love you. I'll watch the stars and pray I don't see you among them." She glanced at her jewelry box on her dressing table and an idea struck her. Letting go of Adriel, she walked to it and opened the box. She rifled through the few pieces she had and pulled out one. It was a small silver-chained bracelet. Tiny rubies were set in between the links. She walked back to her father and took his hand. She put the bracelet around his wrist, then kissed it.
