  • Malina started as Kairu suddenly pushed her writing aside and kissed her. She had never been kissed before, not even by Gavan, and it was weird. She liked it, though, and was a little sad when Kairu pulled away. She was even more so when he explained that he remembered Ryli again. She might not have wanted it, but she'd be lieing to herself if she said she didn't like having the attention of a man. Now that Kairu remembered his love, the spell-bound infatuation was sure to dissapate, or at least not be so strong that he'd continue to pursue her. Still, she knew that Ryli would be a better match for him. She doubted that Kairu would want a princess who spent her time in books, when he could have a Gerudo princess. To hide her sadness, she smiled and said, "If you remember Ryli, then you'll remember that you're cheating on her by doing that. I'm glad it worked, though."

    • Kairu looked down in shame. "I- I- I'm sorry. You're right. It was out of line. I just... I couldn't think of anything else. In the mean time, what do we need to do to help Ryli?"

      • Malina patted Kairu' shoulder. "It's alright. I was only teasing." She reached out and grabbed her notebook. "Well, the first thing we need to do is buy all the supplies we'll need when we run. I've made a list of everything I could think of, but some of it we probably don't. I've never lived off the land before." She frowned at the list and crossed out a couple things. "I'll slip in my father's rooms tonight and steal his keys. I have a pretty good guess which one will open Ryli's cell, so I'll take that one and put the rest back. I can show you where she is and give you whatever you think you'll need to get past the guards. If you're quick and quiet enough, you should be able to disable them and get out without sounding the alarm. I'll saddle Zylan and two, no wait, better make that three, other horses, one for you and Ryli each and a pack horse. Or do you think we need that many?" She looked up at him curiously. "After all, you'd know better than I would."

        • "We should each have one horse a piece. Managing a fourth horse will just be too much hassle. And the list should contain essentials. Particularly a couple pots and pans for the side, any medicines, a few bits of clothing, a tent, rope, and anything you just can't live without. Also, if you need a weapon, make sure those are on there. As well as some money. As for Ryli and I, you can use our horses for extra room as what we have is limited."

          • Malina nodded and started scratching things off the list and adding a couple others. "I was thinking of bringing some of my jewelry. I usually don't wear any, but I have quite a few pieces. If we need money, we can sell them." She frowned at the page. "I'll most likely put most of the supplies on Zylan with me. I'm lighter than you and Ryli, and Zylan is a strong horse. He can carry quite a bit if I ask him." She added "new clothes" to the list, then closed the book. "Come on, let's head to the markets and buy all this stuff. I can hide most of them in my rooms or with Zylan's tack. After which, I should introduce you to the two horses, and have you go riding on them, so you can decide which one matches you better. Speaking of which, do you know how to ride? Would be a good idea to make sure before I set you up on Raider. He's a pretty aggressive horse that needs a firm hand on the rein, but a kind rider. Do you know if Ryli knows how to ride? I should have asked that sooner. Hmmm... I think Silvia is still in the stables. She's Mom's horse, but Mom doesn't usually ride her any more. She's a sweet horse, although she sometimes needs a little encouragement to go beyond a trot." After her long ramble, Malina stood and started towards her rooms for her purse.

            • "I'll be honest with you Princess, I've never rode a horse before. I don't think it'd be wise to put me on a rebellious horse." Kairu was thinking about it more and more. "Last thing I need is another accident with memory loss."

              • Malina laughed. "That won't be too hard to fix. Outlaw should work for you. He goes where he's told, but if he refuses to go somewhere, there's a very good reason for it and you shouldn't try to force him. Otherwise he'll buck you off." She turned to him with a smile. "I can take you out riding now, give you a few lessons before we head to the markets. Zylan's probably getting a little restless anyways." She took his hand and started pulling him towards the stables, while rambling on about the different parts of a horse's tack, and how to take care of them and the horse itself.

                • Kairu smiled while being led by Malina. He was wondering what part of him was true. Sure Ryli was the woman of his dreams, but deep down inside his heart. The part well beneath his outer and even inner shell, a small part wondered about Malina. Kairu sensed this extra feelings, quickly dismissing them and burying them underneath everything.

                  • "Get Outlaw saddled and ready to ride, please," Malina called to one of the grooms as she went to bring Zylan from the corral and ready him.
"Yes, Princess," the groom said, bowing, before he went to fetch the jet black stallion.
Malina smiled over at Kairu as she re-entered the stable, her silver stallion following passively behind her. "Come on, let me show you had to ready him to ride." She opened the stall door and lead the two males in. "First, it's a good idea to make sure he didn't pick up any stones the night before. Zylan's not limping, so there's a good chance he didn't, but you never know." She knelt next to the horse and grabbed his ankle. "Give," she told the horse gently, and he lifted the leg. She showed the hoof to Kairu. "Nothing's there, as you can see." She leg go and moved on to the other three hooves. He did have a small stone in one of them, so she pulled out the hoof pick and showed Kairu how to remove it.
She stood and dusted her legs off when she was finished. "Next we have to brush him. It helps massage his muscles and removes loose hair and dust." She handed Kairu a brush and showed him how to do it, then brushed out Zylan's tail and mane while watching Kairu brush him. "Brushing also helps you locate and scratches or swellings," she said. "You don't want to try riding an injured horse, especially if the saddle or bridle would be rubbing against the injury."
Grooming finished, she showed Kairu how to saddle and bridle the horse. "I personally prefer to bridle my horse first, but I know that a few of the grooms saddle first." She smiled at him as she tightened the girth. "And that's all there is to it. Riding is simply a matter of keeping your balance and not tugging too hard on the reins." She took Zylan's reins and lead him out of the stall, then took Outlaw's reins from the groom and lead both horses out of the stable. She lead Outlaw to the mounting block. "Stand on that. It makes it easier to mount. Put your left foot in the stirrup, then swing yourself onto the saddle and put your other foor in the other stirrup." She held Outlaw still so Kairu could try.

                    • Kairu did as he was told struggling a few times. "It feels weird... I don't want to hurt anything. Riding a horse isn't gonna hurt me, will it?" He tried one last time and got up on the horse's back.

                      • Malina frowned thoughtfully. "Well, you might be sore after riding, since you're not used to it. Like after your first sword lesson. Your muscles got pulled in ways they never had before so they complained about it. It'll take a few times before you get used to it enough that they don't hurt." She rubbed Outlaw's side. "Of course, if you fall off, it will hurt, so do your best to keep your balance, and don't try to go faster than a trot yet." After kairu managed to get on, she led Zylan to the mounting block and climbed effortlessly into the saddle. "Grip with your knees, not your hands," she reminded him. "It'll be less likely you'll fall out of the saddle and be dragged along." She smiled reassuredly at him.

                        • Kairu did his best to follow the instructions and advice. "What are we going to do about Ryli? I don't think she's ever rode a horse before either. Were you expecting her to ride with me instead?"

                          • Malina/shook her head. "She seems like a rider to me, so I was planning on bringing another horse for her. If she doesn't, we can use the third to teach her later and she can ride with me. After all, I think I'm small enough to let her share the saddle. Not sure if Outlaw's willing to let two ride him anyway. I've never tried. I know Zylan doesn't mind though. I trained him myself." She smiled proudly at the stallion beneath her.

                            • "Fair enough, now what's next on the list?" Kairu climbed off of Outlaw's back and plopped on solid ground. He still felt like riding a horse would wind up in disaster. He understood why the horses were necessary, but he still felt uncomfortable about it, his face starting to express it.

                              • Malina frowned, disappointed Kairu didn't want to try actually riding. It was probably just because it was something new, something different, so he was uncomfortable with it. She shrugged and dismounted from Zylan. "We need to go to town and buy supplies. I have a list written up, but it would be an annoyance for these to if they had been saddled and then not ridden. I'm going to go ahead and take zylan for a good run, although I'm not sure what to do about Outlaw." The black horse shook his head. "Yes, I know I could lead you behind me. I just don't know if that would make it worth it for you." She started rubbing the horse's shoulder. "These guys will gladly run their hearts out for a rider they trust. They willingly put up with us saddling them and forcing them to go where we please. All they really ask in return is respect." She had pretty much forgotten Kairu was there, she was just talking aloud to herself at this point.
