Malina nodded and looked at the beaker. She took a deep breath, letting it out in a sigh. She then tilted the beaker and gulped down the dark liquid. She was right, it was foul-tasting, and she had to fight her gag reflex. Still, she managed to swallow it all before dropping the beaker. "Goddess, that was terrible." She was tempted to drink some wine to wash out the taste, but she was afraid that would delude the affects. She looked at Kairu. "Am I turning invisible yet?" she asked, afraid that maybe she had just poisoned herself.

To Kairu's amazement, Malina started to fade away and become invisible. Something seemed to have not gone the way he expected. Malina was, in fact, invisible, however, her clothes were still fully visible. "Umm, Malina, I think you'll have to do this without clothes. You're invisible, but if you couldn't tell, your clothes aren't."sigpic

Malina glanced down. Sure enough, she was gone. Not seeing herself made her suddenly feel off-balance and she threw her arm out to catch herself. Then she burst out laughing. "Goddesses, all the days I wished to be invisible when my father wanted to parade my knowledge in front of the council, or other people, and all it took was a simple potion from an old book." When she finally got her hysterical laughter under control, she started pulling her clothing off. She was hesitant, knowing Kairu was there watching her, but seeing, or rather, not seeing, her invisible hands helped make it easier for her.
She started with her hair ribbon, figuring that would be the easiest to pull off. Her rapier and its belt followed. She hesitated again, looked at Kairu, then pulled the rest of her clothes off. She shivered slightly as the chill air brushed her bare skin. "I wish I had thought to look for something to turn my clothes invisible as well. It would make it easier to bring the keys back." She sighed. "Oh well. I'll be off then." She flashed a smile at Kairu, then left her room, heading down the hall to her father's study, trying her hardest to keep from muttering under her breath about the cold stone on her bare feet.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Kairu waited a couple minutes after Malina's door shut. He looked at her clothes on the ground and smiled. His mind starting to betray Ryli, but he shook the thoughts from his mind. 'I have to focus,' he thought to himself. He made his way back up to his room to prepare for Ryli's jailbreak.sigpic

Malina paused outside her father's study. She was unsure if he was in there or not, and she'd prefer not to be caught by him. True, he couldn't see her, but he knew that doors didn't open by themselves. He'd know something was up if she opened the door. She took a deep breath and held it as she inched open the door.

Adriel was in his study. He was sitting at his desk going over the plans for Ryli's execution. The plan had everyone on it. When and where the soldiers will be, the current guard for Ryli's cell, where the crowd of people will be, everything. He looked it over some more making sure he didn't find a flaw in the security. After a sigh and silence of the rain hitting the windows, the candle on his desk blew out. Adriel stared at the candle for a moment and then walked towards the door.sigpic

Malina froze as she heard her father moving to the door. She assumed it was her father because no one else would have any need to be in her room. Unless they're doing what I am, she thought. She doubted it though. She glanced down to make sure she was still invisible, then slipped through the cracked door, careful to avoid nudging it open further. Adriel looked abruptly at the door, a puzzled look on his face. He looked inside and outside the room and even down at his current position. He dismissed it as a breeze in the castle, as it was quite common in the palace. After all, there was already a gust that blew out the candle on his desk, why wouldn't it be plausible now with the door. He walked out of the room and headed towards the mess hall.sigpic

Malina breathed a heavy sigh of relief as Adriel left the room. She hadn't realized she started holding her breath when her father started looking around the room until she let it out. As she started rifling through her father's drawers searching for the keys, she made a vow to never do anything like this again. She would die of shame if anyone caught her doing this, especially naked as she was. Finally, her fingers closed around the cold metal of the key ring. She clutched it to her chest, shivering slightly with its cold, but she hoped that she could hide them with her invisible arms, thus making them invisible too. She doubted it would work, but she didn't want to be stopped by someone seeing the floating keys. She quickly rearranged everything in the drawers to how they were, or as close as she could make it, then hurried out of the room and down the hall to Kairu's room.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Kairu finished getting the uniform on. He looked at himself in the mirror and he liked the look of the blue. "That's a nice color. Really brings out my eyes." Kairu put the belt and sword up and around his waist. He stood there with the boots and full outfit checking himself out one more time before sitting to wait for Malina. "Too bad I don't have a pictograph."sigpic

Malina paused at Kairu's door, panting. She had almost ran the whole way from Adriel's office to Kairu's room. When she felt she had caught her breath sufficiently, she tapped on the door, then entered. "Got 'em," she told Kairu, tossing the keys toward him. She looked around, hoping for something to wear. Kairu turned around quickly to try and respond fast enough to the flying keys, but he wound up being too slow. They hit the ground and slid right into his feet. He looked around wondering when that invisibility potion would wear off. "Hey Malina, if you're still here, when that invisibility suppose to wear off?"sigpic

Malina gave up finding something that would fit her and pulled the blanket off the bed, wrapping it around herself. "Soon," she said. "The book says it varies from person to person, but the soonest it would wear off was an hour after I drank it." She giggled as she spotted herself in the mirror. "I used to pretend to be a ghost as a kid, running around with a blanket draped over me. Now I could actually be a ghost if I wanted." As if to prove her wrong, the effects of the potion started wearing off, causing her to slowly materialize in the visible world.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Kairu watched as the effects slowly faded. He looked around trying to be a polite gentleman, and picked up his old clothes he was wearing before the soldier's uniform. "Sorry, Princess, it's the best I can do right now. I don't have anything else in here." He tossed the keys into the air and caught them and then spinning them around the large ring keeping them together. He then stopped and simply held them. He pecked her cheek, "Thank you so much for doing this. Are you sure you are ready for this?"sigpic

Malina took the clothes with one hand, holding the blanket closed around her with the other. She sighed as she answered, "I've already done the hard part. Getting Zylan and Outlaw saddled will be easily done, as will slipping our supplies on them. I can also get another horse, in case Ryli does know how to ride. It should be faster that way. I just need to head up to my room for my book and the rest of my potion-making tools, as well as proper clothes." Aware she was rambling again, she abruptly closed her mouth.
