Adriel rested comfortably in his bed. He could feel his body finally relaxing, but his mind wouldn't stop and take a break. He kept thinking about the situation Labrynna was in. A war with Holodrum, tension and hostile skirmishes with Hyrule, Termina being a potential trade ally, and maybe even a war partner. He couldn't keep his mind calm. In no time, he soon fell asleep.

      The Next Day

Malina woke earlier than she normally would, still feeling tired from a restless night. She brushed her hair and pulled it back into a ponytail, then shrugged out of her nightdress and pulled on her normal outfit. However, she left the rapier in its place by her bed, and she pulled on a dark blue shirt of a less rich material. She wanted to go to the market and buy the things she needed, without anyone asking why the baron's daughter was getting potion ingredients. She did grab a knife and tuck it in her belt, just in case she needed it. She tied her purse to her belt and grabbed a bag she had used while she had still been a peasant. Then she slipped out of her room and crept down-staris, trying not to draw attention to herself as she slipped over to the doors.

Adriel awoke to some of the birds chirping outside the eastern window of his room. The sunlight not being coy in greeting Adriel. Adriel sat up and noticed the wife was already gone. "Must've gone to attend to her affairs," he muttered to himself. He finally got around to standing up and stretched. He rested comfortably throughout the night and it seemed like no time that morning was knocking on his window, almost literally. Adriel went to his wardrobe and grabbed a cleaner copy of his uniform from battle. He stood in the mirror making sure everything looked good. He straightened up the furls on the shoulder pads and smoothed out the jacket so there were no creases or folds. When he was content, he strapped on his belt as well as blade. Hopefully he won't have to use it, but it's better to be cautious than defenseless. When all was said and done he opened the door to start his day.

Malina successfully slipped out of the palace without notice, although a few guards hailed her as she left the courtyard. Still, she was glad that they didn't ask where she was going. As soon as she was out of sight of the walls, she pulled her hair up in a bun. She figured this would help make her seem like a commoner, as they normally didn't leave their hair down. She preferred to keep her hair back in a ponytail or braid while she rode, but the bun would work better. She also knelt and rubbed some dirt into her face and on her arms, thinking this would help with her disguise. She knew that the lower-born didn't bathe much due to the difficulty of getting enough water and heating it up.
Her disguise completed, Malina straightened and walked towards the market. She smiled at passers-by and returned greetings. She stopped at several stalls to buy the herbs she needed, making certain she bought as few as she could from the same stall. Hopefully, this would help keep suspicion from herself. She did ask about finding the two kinds of blood, though. She was sent to many stalls by the people she asked, most of which didn't sell what she was looking for.
Eventually, though, she did find a stall looked after by an old hag who sold the blood. It was expensive, but not as much as she had feared. The crone raised a crooked eyebrow at the money she pushed over. "You are a bold one, carrying so much around with you."
"I have a lot of purchases to make," Malina answered. She put the two bottles in her bag and started to turn away, but the crone grabbed her arm to stop her.
"Be warned, young princess. The potion you intend to make is dangerous, and if you fail to make it correctly, it will cost you dearly."
Malina stared. "Ho-how do you know-?"
"If you are looking for a silver knife, there is a blacksmith down the road who takes custom orders," the crone said, ignoring Malina's question. The girl sighed, then thanked her and headed to the smithy, all the while wondering how the hag had known what she did.
After placing her order to the blacksmith and recieving a promise that it would be done soon, Malina left to find the ivy rod. She already had an oak bowl, back at the palace. After she obtained the rod, she would only have to wait for the blacksmith to finish the knife and she'd be all set to create the potion and bring Kairu back. She glanced at the sky, wondering how her father would react if he knew she was practicing magic.

Adriel entered left the Castle. He headed straight for the town's forum. He knew that to be a good leader, it'd require listening to his people. Here was the perfect place to do it. When he entered, everyone saluted him. Adriel dismissed the formalities and took the center. "Gentlemen, please take a seat. I would first like to discuss our position in the conflict with Holodrum. I've been on the battlefield recently and I'm afraid Hyrule has intervened," he said and the men started to murmur among themselves. "Gentlemen! Please! Despite the intervention, I have no reason to believe that they are taking Holodrum's side. I held a diplomatic conference on the battlefield and they were only concerned with getting the trade convoys from Ordona to Castle Town and back. They were also concerned with the damage the conflict has caused Ordona. Should I receive any indications that Hyrule has aided Holodrum, I will send aid to Termina. There, I will request the help of both Clock Town and the Deku," Adriel said now being interrupted again by the men talking between themselves.

It wasn't until a man, a farmer from the Nuun Highlands, stood up to address Adriel. "Baron, with all do respect, what impact could Clock Town or even the Deku have on this conflict?" He said, many, if not most, of the men agreeing with him.

Adriel acknowledged the concerns, "Gentlemen, I understand your concern. Although they won't have much support in the way of military support, they can still help out. I plan to send an emissary to both the Deku and Clock Town to open trade agreements. Should Hyrule ally with Holodrum, I will request aid of Termina with supplies to arm our soldiers. We will be able to provide them with food and weapons without the constant need to ration how we live here back home. The war is taking its toll, and we need economic help. I feel that without the help, Labrynna is on a losing side," Adriel said concluding his answer to the question.

The public discussions continued for several hours.

Finding the ivy rod took next to no time at all. Malina was excited to know that once the blacksmith had finished with her knife, she'd be ready to make the potion. He had said he'd most likely finish tomorrow. Malina hoped he would, as tomorrow was the night of the new moon. She was shaking with suppressed excitement when she hid her potion ingrediants in Zylan's stall, so she saddled the horse and took him out for a ride. She cantered him until she had relaxed, then let him trot while she mulled over things. Eventually, she decided that if this potion was a success, she might try to make more later. Not of this nature, but maybe easier ones. Ones she could use to help heal people. Then she'd be able to join her father on the battlefield.
"But he won't let me come, potions or no," she muttered. "He's too protective of me. I'm sixteen! I should be able to go where I please, not matter where that is." Of course, if Adriel did find out about the potions, he would most likely freak out. People were very suspcious of magic-users, and generally not in a good way. There would be little chance she'd be aloud to continue the practice if he found out.
Malina sighed with annoyance and turned Zylan back to the palace. "One more day," she murmered to herself. "Then I'll find out if I can do this. And if I can, it won't matter what Daddy tells me, I'll be able to do as I please." Thus contended, she rode back to the palace with a straight back and high head. She unsaddles Zylan, rubbed him down, then moved her potion ingrediants to the shelf in his stall, so he wouldn't accidently step on them. She smiled happily, then headed into the palace to look for some food.

After those several hours passed, Adriel exited last out of the forum. He looked up to the sky, the clouds threatening rain. He made his way back to the Palace.

When Malina spotted her father, she smiled and went to greet him. "Hey, Daddy. How was your day with the politicians?" She handed him a steaming mug of tea, knowing just how stressful it could be dealing with politics. It was why she prefered to avoid it, not having the mind to be polite while still countering arguments. However, she did join Adriel in the forum at times, as she knew she had to learn eventually.

Adriel smiled at Malina and accepted her gift of tea. He started to sip from it, trying not to burn his mouth while doing so. "Well I brought up the topic of your Terminian friends and opening relations with Clock Town and the Deku. The majority is mostly mixed. Some think it's a good idea, others think it's not a good idea. However, it's unanimous that we, Labrynnians, need help in our war."

Malina sighed. "Well, at least they recognize we need help. But we have no one else to turn to. Holodrum and Hyrule are the majority of the continent. We and Termina are small countries. If we try fighting without Termina's aid, we will surely be swept away." She looked towards the west, where the sea lay, although obscured from view. "Oh if only there were other countries out there who could help us." She looked up at her father. "Daddy, where is Kairu being kept? Maybe I can help heal him, and thus get Hyrule to leave us alone."

"Child," Adriel began to speak, but smiled at his daughter's determination and innocence to help, "I doubt Kairu's life will be of importance to Hyrule. From what I've managed to pick up, he's not too high in rank. To the Hylian Colonel, he's expendable. However, since I know you won't listen to me if I told you to forget it, he's awaiting the arrivals of the witchdoctors in the dungeon." Adriel looked at Malina in the eyes. He knew she was up to something, but his guess would be pointless. "Malina... whatever you do, please be careful," he finished and kissed her forehead politely. "I've got other business to tend to here in town. I'll see you tonight, alright?"

Maline's eyes light up and she hugged her father. "Thanks, Daddy. I'll be careful, I promise." She stepped back, still smiling. "I'll see you at dinner then." Then she turned and skipped down the hall, heading to her room, so that she could double-check the potion recipe. She wanted to make absolutely certain she'd get it right.

(You want to go ahead and skip to the next evening, when she make the potion, or do you have something else planned?)

                              Night of the New Moon

As soon as Malina was certain her parents were in bed, she slipped out of her own. She pulled on a black cloak to hide her nightgrown and pulled the hood over her head. Grabbing her ingredients and the page she had copied from her book, she hurried down halls to the dungeon. She had located Kairu's body ealier that day, so she knew where it was being kept. She spread her tools out on the stone floor and knelt there. She pulled out the page and read the recipe yet again.

                              Spiritus Vitae

                              Ash of sage
                              Beer root
                              Cat hair
                              Dittany
                              Lavender
                              Rosemary
                              Thyme
                              Unicorn and Dragon Blood

Stir with ivy rod in a hardened oak bowl during the new moon.
First place the dragon blood in the bowl with the lavender and the ash of burned sage. Proceed to add thyme and dittany, until the potion turns a dark shade of purple. Hold over fire until brew starts bubbling, adding cat hair and beer root, stirring thoroughly after each addition. When potion is bubbling, remove from heat, add rosemary. If concocted correctly, potion will turn deep red. Replace over heat, stirring slowly. Add unicorn blood until potion is dark blue. Allow to sit under the new moon until the sun rises. Administer by dripping into patient's throat down the edge of a silver knife
Slowly, carefully, Maline followed all the instructions. She did not stray from them, even though her arm grew tired from the stirring and she grew hot from standing by the fire. As she waited for the sun to rise before she administered the potion, she allowed herself to doze. It was a fitful sleep, though, and she didn't get much rest from it. When the potion was ready for her to administer to Kairu, she felt she looked like a mess, with her messed-up hair and blood-shot eyes.
As per the instructions, Maline dribbled the potion down Kairu's throat along the silver knife. She had allowed bandaged his wounds, in case the potion didn't heal him of them, but she prayed it would. When the bowl was empty, she let it fall to the floor with a clatter. Then she waited with baited breathe, praying it would work, that she had done it correctly and the Hylian would be revived.

Several minutes passed by with Malina's praying. Suddenly as though the Goddesses heard her prayers, Kairu gasped the dungeon air. His body re-ignited with life. His body felt super numb, and he couldn't move his wounded appendages yet. He managed to turn to the girl next to him and asked her some questions. "Who are you? Where am I? Why can't I move?"
