"love spells?" Jenna said laughing "you really think those exist, sorry but that is manipulating a persons state of mind which is illegal in my family's society.... according to my mother anyway. even if they did exist I wouldnt use them, it just doesn't seem right to me" she smiled at the nieve boy.

Layla shot a glare at Joshua. "Which would have made it more important for you to meet a better example of our culture." She sighed. "Oh well. Damage done best be mended rather than scolded."

Joshua frowned. "You'd never use a love spell? Why not? I'd use it in a heart beat." Then he slapped his forehead. "Because you don't need it! You way too pretty and self-confident to need a love spell to get yourself a man." He grinned broadly. "But I'd willing to be your practice dummy for whatever spell you want use. I'm the healer, so I'm pretty sure I can heal whatever damage you cause."

Layla shook her head. "Let's just keep going. I need to introduce her to Kirra before the night falls. You know how difficult she is if you wake."

"I'm sure Layla would have several non-human targets" Jenna said to Joshua, however she was pouting "and you would, really? that's horrible! you can't control a person like that, you can't control love. the idea of that is just disguesting and wrong, what is wrong with you" she turned to Layla, a shiver of disgust going up her spine "who is kirra?" she asked.

Layla shrugged. She actually didn't, but it would be easy enough to fashion some. Of course, the actual casting of the spells would be the first step. Aiming would come later. "He'd use it because it's the only way he can get a girl," she said, in response to Jenna's comment. "That boy is too forgetful. If it weren't for Night, he'd probably forget to eat."

Joshua glared at the older Stari. "Not true."
No, it's not, Night agreed. You'd forget to blink.
"I would not!" Joshua told her indignantly.

Layla laughed at the two, then turned back to Jenna. "Kirra is the witch I'm taking you to. She tends to be up at dawn and sound asleep at dusk. And extremely annoyed if woken for anything other than an emergancy. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that it's a bad idea to annoy a witch."

"well it all depends on how powerful and how well trained that witch is" Jenna said, a huge grin on her face, she couldn't stop smiling "someone like me, for instance, could actually summon a bouquet of flowers into the hands of someone who has annoyed her" she blushed bright red "can you believe I actually did that, to this day I have no idea how"

Joshua stared at her. He opened his mouth to ask, but Layla interrupted him, "She already answered you, Joshua."

"Stop reading my mind," the boy muttered.

Layla chuckled, then turned to Jenna. "Shall we go? We might be able to join Kirra for dinner if we hurry, although don't take any of her bread. It's hard as a rock."

"She's a pretty good cook otherwise," Joshua put in.
Night rolled her eyes. You'd eat anything if it was put in front of you and called edible.
"Would not!" Joshua protested, then admitted, "Well, maybe if it looked good."

jenna felt her stomach growl "food actually sounds good" she said smiling, wondering about the exchange that had gone between Layla and Joshua "my mother use to be an amazing cook, she could cook anything you wanted, and she made the most amazing bread... actually she taught me how to bake bread very young, so I could make some later if you want"

"Sounds good to me," Joshua said, grinning. "Just don't bake it near Layla, she's jumpy around fires."

"And I can unconciously make you dance around without any clothes on and clucking like a rooster while doing so," Layla threatened.

Joshua just turned his grin to her. "I'm sure all the girls would love that."
In your dreams, Night responded, making a face.
Joshua turned to the cheetah, wide-eyed. "How did you know that?"

Layla shook her head. "Ugh. Come on Jenna, let's go before he says anything more crazy." She lead the way further into the forest, towards Rayhaven.

Layla laughed. "I can't make him do it unconciously if I force it." She was finding herself growing more and more relaxed around the girl. She also noticed that she was growing comfortable with Jenna's mind too, as it was getting much easier to hear her thoughts. In fact, she was starting to have to close her mind off to the witchling's, in an attempt to preserve Jenna's privacy.
Even though most of the Stari were still in Logata, helping Rhykim, Rayhaven still bustled with activity. There were still several warriors left behind, male and female, in case the Deku attacked, but the majority of the village were the more peaceful members. Layla lead Jenna around the different huts, showing her the important buildings, such as the cheiftain's home, the small shrines dedicated to the goddesses, and the home many of the unbounded star cheetah used. The latter, of course, wasn't usually in use. The star cheetahs were wild animals at heart, and it was only those expecting kits or nursing that used it.
The witch Kirra lived in a hut close to the center of the village. Layla explained this was because it was easier to call on her assistance if she was needed. Joshua, who had tagged along behind them, commented that he lived a little way from the witch, but was still close to the center, for the same reason. Layla shooed him away before stopping at Kirra's house. She turned to Jenna. "Are you ready?" she asked.

"I'm as ready as I could be" Jenna said smiling, she noticed they had stopped in front of a hut "I hope this witch is nice, and I hope my magic isn't so horrid that she can actually train me. I mean, I'm just a hopeless little witchling. I can barely get the simplest of spells right"

Sahara patted Jenna's shoulder. "I'm sure you'll be fine, the Stari seem to be good people," she said reassuringly. "Joshua especially..." she said, trying not to taunt her.

"And we know how to help even the more fragile sprouts bloom," Layla added. "It doesn't matter how poor you think your magic is, Kirra will be able to help you nuture your skills." With that, the Stari raised her hand and rapped on the door.
The noise was followed rather abruptly by a shattering pot. Layla winced, realizing she should have waited until the witch had put the flower pot down before knocking. Then the door was flung open and an elderly woman, her grey hair pulled back into a bun, glared at Layla. She wasn't as tall as the Stari girl, but she was bigger. She wore a sleeveless black gown reaching to her bare feet, a brown belt around her middle with several bags and pouches hanging from it.
Layla saluted the woman. "May you never fear the darkness, Kirra. I brought a young witchling to you, in hopes that you might complete her training."
Kirra snorted. "Ya woulda done better bringin' a man home for yerself, girl. How much longer are ya gonna to waste away behind that mask of yours?" She didn't allow Layla to respond before turning to Jenna. She glanced the girl up and down, then shrugged. "I'm Kirra, may ya never lose sight of the sun." She placed her fist over her heart and bowed to the girl. "Guess you're gonna be my new student. Come on in." She glared at Layla. "Take your bird and get going, girl. I only got serving ware for two, ya know."

Jenna looked nervous when Layla was told she had to go, but she didn't say anything "thank you ma'am" she said, her voice barely above a whisper, she clutched her mothers journel closer agasint her "I can't wait to learn from you, it's going to be fun..... maybe then I would be such a hopeless little witch"

Layla rolled her eyes as Kirra shooed Jenna into the house and closed the door. "Not my bird," she muttered, knowing full well the witch couldn't hear her. She turned to Saharah, her mask gleaming slightly with the sunlight peaking through the tree boughs. "Would you like me to escort you from the forest? I cant guide you where you please, if you desire me to." Secretly she hoped not. She wanted nothing more than to return to her solitary life. Joining Rhykim's army had been an interesting experience, but she was ready to return to her little cabin in the darkest part of the forest and live out her days silently contemplating the darkness.
