"I don't really have anywhere to be, I was just getting a bit tired while flying and I needed to rest." Sahara explained. "If you have a place I can stay that would be wonderful, I promise to earn my keep." she thought for a moment. "That's all I really need, unless you'd like some company." she smiled, rocking back and forth on her feet.

Layla sighed. Of course. The girl just had to want to stay with her. As long as she was with people, she couldn't let her mind wander free. She couldn't remove the mask the hid her face and scars. Well, she could hide within herself for a little longer, she supposed. "Come with me." She led the way from the Stari tribe and wove a path between tree trunks. Large oaks with their leafy boughs quickly gave way to dark pine trees, their needles blocking out more sunlight and scratching those who weren't wary. "Watch you follow my path exactly. These trees have a habit of looking alike, and it only takes a single misstep to get lost among them," Layla called softly to the Rito.

Sahara hoped she wasn't being a bother as she followed Layla through the trees, occasionally she glanced around, speeding up to avoid being lost. "I don't think I caught your name, Layla was it?" Sahara raised her voice to be heard over the crunching pine needles. "My name is Sahara, in case you didn't catch mine."

Layla sighed. "Yes, my name is Layla." She didn't bother saying she was pleased to meet Sahara. She wasn't. She was never pleased to meet anyone. It was just one more person she had to shield keep from listening to, one more mind she had to avoid. She hated her gift. To hear everything that went through a person's head, to know their pain, their fears, their desires. It was burdensome. She used to be able to live with it, back when she had a life of her own. But now, she was little more than an empty shell, desiring nothing more than to fill her emptiness with silence and solitude.
She reached up to touch her mask, feeling the smooth wood above her cheek. Yes, ever since she had felt her partner die, she had no desire to feel anything at all.

Sahara sighed, and let her voice drop back to silence. Layla didn't seem to be much of a talker, and her mask was a bit confusing. Now wasn't the time to ask though, the last thing she wanted was to get distracted. The trees grew ever thicker an less light filtered through the leaves. Getting lost would be suicide at this point, and the branches above intertwined in such a way that nobody the size of a human could fit through them. Even if they tried it seemed they would get caught like a fly in a web.
"I wonder where we're going... hopefully not anywhere near Clearcliff," she thought to herself.

Layla sighed as sensed Sahara's thought. She could block off some of the thoughts she could hear, but sometimes her control would slip, or the thought would be strong, enough that she could hear it. It was like trying to ignore someone talking aloud, constantly, or a bird chirping away. However, someone talking would shut up, and a bird would eventually fly away. Thoughts were continuous, and didn't even stop when the person was sleeping; they simply morphed into something more relaxed as the mind focused more on deeper concerns in a more relaxed manner. They were much easier to ignore when the person was sleeping, but it was still constant.
"No. It won't be near Clearcliff. My home is closer to the northern coast, although it is nowhere close to the forest edge." Her curiosity lifted its wary head, tempting her to dive into the Rito's mind and learn why she didn't want to be near her ancestral home. She refused to, though. One, she disliked prying and two, she didn't want to learn about this girl. She wanted her to leave as soon as possible, and if they bonded, that would become difficult.

Sahara was a bit alarmed, but made herself continue walking. "How did you know I didn't want to go to Clearcliff?" she asked. Her voice wavered a little, though it reflected more bravery than she felt. She glanced back to the sky, and could barely see the blue and white through the branches. No way she'd be able to get out unless she kept following Layla, and though she wanted to run she swallowed her fear and put one foot in front of the other. She could do this, she knew she could.

Layla sighed, the air hissing from behind her mask. "I know many things that I should not. The Stari are a powerful race, and I have one of the rarest and perhaps most powerful ability. But it is a curse, to be able to hear a person's thoughts, to know what they think, they feel. I know what a person wants and what he needs. I know all the secrets about him, before even seeing his face. Some minds are louder, some are quieter. Some thoughts are easier to hear, others, harder. I can hear your desire to avoid Clearcliff, but I chose not to learn why. It is not my business to know why you wish to avoid your kind, anymore than it is yours to know mine." She stopped in a dark clearing and pointed. "There lies my home." A small cottage stood near a pool of water, both nearly completely hidden by the shadows.
