Joshua lay in the sun, enjoying its warmth. Night lay next to him, equally content in the light. Joshua looked over at her. "We're all stocked up on thyme leaves right? I can't remember if we found some yesterday or not."
The cheetah laughed. Yes, Joshua. We found thyme. It was juniper we had been looking for.
"Oh yeah." Joshua thought for a minute. "Did we find any of those?"
Yes, you forgetful kit, Night laughed.
"Where would I be without?" Joshua asked, scratching her neck.
She purred with more laugher. You'd have too many of some herbs and too few of others.
"Too true," Joshua said seriously. "Are there any we should be looking for now? Chervil comes to mind."
Night thought for a minute. Yes, we need chervil. I think we're also running low on willow bark.
"Then what are we waiting here for?" Joshua asked, standing up. "Let's get looking!" He took off into the forest, Night running after him and yelling at him that he was going the wrong way.

Saharah yawned as she flew west over Logata; it had been a long flight to get away from her "home", but she was tired of the other kids. Nobody was going to adopt her anyway, and the headmistress caught her burning paper without permission. That'd gotten her in trouble, and had gotten her stash of parchment taken away. It was a nice flight though, the headmistress never really let the Rito children fly much, and those who could had to stay close. Saharah distracted everybody with a small fire in somebody else's room and escaped while everybody was preoccupied.
Glancing at the sun, Saharah saw it about noon, but she'd have to rest soon. She didn't bother to bring any food, but she never really ate much anyway. Searchin the sky, she saw a thicket of forest she could probably find some food in. Crash-landing into a clearing, she was never good at landings, Saharah dusted herself off and took her hair out of it's ponytail she kept it up in for flying. She began wandering around, searching the trees for fruit.

Night was still chasing after Joshua when the boy ran into a bird-creature. He fell back with an "Ow." He looked up. "Sorry about that, didn't see you," he said cheerfully. He looked the bird-creature up and down. "Don't think I've seen your kind before. I'm Joshua, of the Stari. May you never feel sorrow." He placed his fist over his heart and bowed, then straightened to smile at the bird, waiting expectently for its name.

Saharah grunted as a boy bumped into her, but shook it off. "What's a Stari?" She asked. "Oh, and my name is Saharah of the Rito, I came from the other side of the island," she explained, pointing east.

Joshua's eyes widened. "You've never heard of the Stari?"
Isn't that what she just told you? Night said, rolling her eyes.
"Yeah it is," Joshua answered with a laugh, unconciously slipping into the cheetah's tongue as he answered her. "That doesn't mean I should believe it." Then he turned to Saharah, slipping back into the human tongue as he answered her. "Stari are a race of Logatans, but we have abilities. Like one girl can summon and control fire at will, while another can control water. It's pretty cool, although the Logatans are a little unsure of us because we're 'wierd'." He made air quotes around the word, then snorted. "Not weird, blessed by the Goddesses, is all."

"I see, I can control fire as well," Saharah said, holding out her palm and lighting a small flame just above it, as not to scorch her feathers." She extinguised it before kneeling down in front of the cheeta. "What's your friend's name?" She asked Joshua, holding out her palm to the cheeta.

Joshua's eyes widened. "You can control fire too? Cool!"
Night rolled her eyes and she extended her nose to sniff the Rito's palm. Are you in a repeating mood today or something? She snorted at Saharah. She smells funny.
"Of course she smells weird, you silly cheetah," Joshua told her, ignoring her first comment. "You've never scented Rito before." He grinned up at Saharah. "This is Night. She's my cheetah partner, though she tends to think herself the better."
Only because I am, Night put in as she nudged Saharah's hand, thus giving the Rito permission to pet her.

Saharah grinned and scratched behind Night's ears. "Where do you live Joshua? Around here anywhere?" she asked, continuing to scratch Night around her neck.

Joshua gestured over his shoulder. "The Stari village Rayhaven is back that way a bit. I live close to the center of it, being the healer." He grinned down at Night, who had closed her eyes and was purring as Saharah scratched her ears. "She likes you. Normally she's wary of strangers, at least compared to me, but she likes you. Must be the ear-scratching."
Night opened one eye to glare at the boy. Keep talking like that, and I'll give you a few wounds of your own to treat.

Saharah kneeled in the grass again and continued petting Night. "It probably is the scratching, back where I used to live nobody had any kind of animal. The... landlady was alergic," she said, keeping her past a secret. "But if you're a Healer, I'll have to keep you in mind, in case I burn myself."

Joshua frowned. "You mean you never had any pets? That sucks." He regarded the Rito thoughtfully. "Wait, you mean you can burn yourself? I thought most fire-weilders were immune to fire?"
Night glared at him. Not immune. They can just control it well enough that they don't get burned by it. Obviously she's still new to her gift.
"Yeah, I guess that's true." He frowned thoughtfully. "Been awhile since I treated burns. Layla was the last one who needed it. Being forest-dwellers, Stari tend to be careful with fire."

"I'm still learning to control my ability, I had to keep it hidden from the landlady and didn't have much of a chance to learn how to use it. If I keep it lit in my palm for too long I'll burn myself, I need to learn how to keep it held above my palm so I can 'hold' fire without being burned." Saharah thought for a moment. "Unless of course I'm burned by the radiating heat of the flame, but that won't hurt nearly as much or do as much damage."

"Ah." Joshua frowned thoughtfully. "Heat does burn, although you're right, it's not as severe as actual fire can do. Just depends on exactly how hot it is." He glanced behind him towards the tribe. "I think there's a fire-wielder or two who'd be willing to teach you. I think they usually just summon it a little over their palm to avoid being burned. I'm not sure if anyone's figured out how to actually be on fire without being burned."

(hence why you were wanting to meet with Sephira, huh. lol)

(Actually I just thought about that, I forgot Sephira was a fire weilder, I just knew she had the pheonix thing. I had no real rhyme or reason to wait for her)

"Maybe one of the fire weilders and I can figure that out, it probably just involves holding fire high enough for the heat to not reach your skin... or feathers," she chuckled. "What were you doing out here in the forest anyway?" Saharah looked Joshua up and down, he seemed old enough to take care of himself, but looks could be decieving.

(Ah. Well, phoenixes are fire, which is why Sephira has fire control.)

"Maybe." Joshua shrugged. "I've never really had much interest in fire, other than when I'm cooking something. Like tea. Do you like tea? I love it. I found just the prefect tea recipe the other day. It's sweet without being too much so, and has an earthy taste to it, which is expected since it's tea, right?"
Joshua. The boy looked at his cheetah. You're blabbering again.
"Oops! Sorry about that. I can be a bit of a chatterbox at times. Usually it's not a big deal since I'm usually only with Night, but I know that some people like to get more than a word in edgewise." He grinned from ear to ear. "Right now, I'm talking with you, although I was going to look for some... What was it we were looking for, Night?"
Chervil. Can you do anything without me?
"Of course not," Joshua answered cheerfully before turning back to Saharah. "I was looking for chervil. Although technically, I'm always in the forest. After all, the Stari live in the forest. We almost like serious Kokiri, without the whole immortal children thing."
