    Clearcliff Village

    Summary of stuff that went down so far:

    Lillian was summoned by the Chieftain to run an errand at the castle, which was to pick up more healing potions for the village's infirmary. Lillian then flew to Logata City and witnessed a strange ritual taking place in one of the closed of shops there. After returning to her village with potions in hand, she asked the Chieftain to consult the village scholars about what she saw. After finding out what she wanted to know, she walked out towards the entrance to the village and heard shouting. This was when she witnessed the execution of the King of Logata, and was told to wait for the prince to arrive. When the prince arrived at the canyon, Lillian delivered the news of his father's death, and that he was the new King. She then left the King to return to the village and tell the Chieftain what had taken place. This is where the story continues...



    Lillian flew into her village, and reported directly to the Chieftain.

    "Chief! I have broken the news of the King's death to the Prince, and he is now filling his role as King of Logata. Would you prefer I go with him?" She asked.

    "Hmm..." he replied, "No, I will need you here. The wind sings of impending war and destruction. I need you to take a small number of soldiers and train them in the art of stealth, knife-throwing, and I need you to teach them how to use daggers. We do not have much time. Go!" said the Chief.

    "Right away!" replied Lillian. She ran towards the barracks on the other side of the village.

    Lillian entered the soldiers' barracks, and looked around for a moment. No one seemed to really notice or pay attention to her entrance. She was just another soldier after all. Lillian found herself a stump to stand on and stood on it. Then she spoke to her people.

    "Attention! Attention everyone! Listen up!" she shouted. She had most of their attention now. "-Ahem- Well, uh... Our beloved Chieftain has asked me to gather a small platoon of soldiers and train them in the art of stealth, since I seem to be the only knife-thrower around here. I need about 50 volunteers to meet me at the entrance to the village in half an hour. You need to equip a dagger on each of your hips, and about 10 throwing knives in each of your robes. You will be separated into 5 groups that I will teach individually. War is coming, so hop to it!" Lillian concluded her little speech, and left to make some preparations for her new assignment.

      It took several days before Lillian and her 50 troops were ready for battle. The rest of the militia were ground troops, and they had been ready for action from the get go. The Chieftain made a brief speech to his army.

      "My Rito warriors... Today you fight for our freedom, our people, our lives, for the freedom of Logata! May the three goddesses protect all of you from harm, and that you may be victorious! Some of you will not return... But you shall not have died in vain. For even if we fall here, we shall join our King on the battlefield, and take this fight to Rhykim!"

      The Sky soldiers cheered and thumped their spears against the ground. Lillian and her troops whooped loudly and applauded. It was time for battle, and they wasted no time flying out of the village to meet the oncoming army.

        A man in a red and yellow robe stood atop one of the cliffs of the canyon, surveying the smoke rising in the distance with a grim smile on his face. His face was enshrouded in the shadows of the cowl of his hood except for his beak. Had he been anywhere else, he would have been marked as an outsider immediately.

        Here, he was home.

        "I wonder if they're still out for my blood," he muttered to himself, and then took a pace back, and launched himself off of the cliff. For a few seconds he hung in the air, and then began the breathtaking plunge the two hundred feet towards the bottom. After nearly half a minute of descent, he spread his wings through two slits in the back of his robe, and pulled himself up in to a glide. With a few flaps, he was off towards Clearcliff Village.

        A few minutes later, he landed at the entrance, and the guard immediately noticed him as he approached the gate.

        "Halt, and state your name!" They called, notching arrows to their bowstrings.

        "My name is Altimere Grael," The man called up, the smile still on his beak. There was an audible gasp at the infamous name, and a feeling of satisfaction welled up in the man's chest, pushing the nervousness aside with ease. "And I've come to speak to the Chieftain concerning the war."

        There were a few moments of hushed words, and then a guard fluttered off to find the Chieftain. A few minutes later he returned, and spoke to the guards, and with a slow creak, the gate opened, allowing him entrance to Clearcliff Village.

        Alt was, after five long years, finally home.

          As Lillian was about to take off and join her people in fighting off Amaya's army at the top of the canyon, she overheard a new voice in the village coming from a Rito who had just landed at the village's entrance.

          "My name is Altimere Grael, and I've come to speak with the Chieftain concerning the war." He stated proudly, and stuck out his chest, arrogantly.

          Lillian had heard his name before, but where? She stopped to think for a moment... There had been stories told to her by the Chieftain and the village scholars about this man. She saw the way the guards reacted to him. Fleeting images afflicted her mind, scraps of memories of those stories. Then it hit her, like a castle wall. He had just finished speaking with the Chief. He seemed displeased, but ultimately reluctantly agreed to something with the man. She approached him now.

          "You!" She shouted. "I know who you are. You're that gutless mercenary who killed our ambassador. What the hell are you doing here?" She said with disgust.

          "I've come back to defend my home." He replied flatly.

          "You're home?! I --!" She was about to lay him out when the Chieftain approached her.

          "Lillian please calm down. I understand your anger, but we must put our differences aside and stand against the common enemy. He has agreed to help us fight, as long as he leaves the village when this is over. He is still an exile." said the Chief, as if to remind Altimere of their agreement.

          Lillian pondered for a moment. "...Fine. But don't try anything funny out there! Lest you end up with one of my daggers in your back." She narrowed her eyes at him and pointed a feathered finger at him. "...Let's go!" She spread her wings and promptly flew out of the village, not caring whether or not the exile followed her. 'What rubbish.' She thought.

            Alt's hood still enshrouded his face, but it was further back, fully covering his beak as well. He let out a soft laugh once she was out of ear shot, and said, "Is she actually threatening me?"

            "She'd give you a run for your money, scum," the chieftain growled. "Watch yourself - though I must say, your death would be no great loss to the village."

            "Geez, why is this alway the reaction I get when I try and help you?"

            The assassin started walking towards the gate, and the chieftain followed him at a slower rate. He waved his staff at Alt, and said, "It's because you betrayed us - you destroyed our respect with the royal family, and that can never be forgiven. Your name is used to scare Rito children to be good, and some of the youngest of children view you as a mere legend."

            Alt walked through the gates to the edge of the parapit, and said, neutrally, "I always hoped I'd be legendary one day."

            "You're more of the infamous sort."

            "Well.." The warrior said, turning around. He stared straight at the chieftain, and then reached up and pulled his hood down. His waist length hair tumbled out, and the smile he gave was both one of pain and suffering, and of defiance. "...maybe I like it that way."

            "Try not to die. I want our troops to kill you, not hers."

            "Yeah, alright," Alt said as he leaped off of the edge, and dove towards the canyon floor.

            I'll keep that in mind, father.

              (returning from Amaya's Attack)

              Lillian and Alt returned from the battlefield with a mere handful of soldiers. Each one carried a wounded soldier into the infirmary, where they were promptly cared for by the nurses there. Lillian sought out the Chieftain.

              "What on Earth happened?" Asked the Chief, bewildered.
              "The enemy was too strong. Alt and I managed to come out relatively unharmed, but everyone else is either dead, dying, or wounded. We have a handful of soldiers left. My group of flying assassins fared somewhat better, but there are only about half of them left." She told him, somberly.
              "I see..." He replied. "Take our remaining forces to the castle, defend the King and our country. I will send reinforcements, if they recover from their injuries." He told her.

              Lillian found Alt and carried out the Chief's orders after finding the remaining forces in the barracks.

              "Our Chieftain has ordered us to defend the King from this vicious assault. Rest up and eat well tonight, you will need it. We will fly at first light." Lillian told them. "I want you to remain here with the Chief and guard his life should anyone try to assassinate him while we're gone." Lillian told Alt.

              "You've got to be kidding me! There's no way I'm putting my life on the line for that moldy, old..." Lillian gave him a fierce look. "Alright look, I'll talk to him about it, but I know he won't like it." He said.
              "Just tell him it was my idea." She replied.

              Lillian set off for her bunk, while Alt went to find the Chieftain.

                In all the commotion, a lone Rito flew across the town, flying to a stray house near by. "Teacher! I'm back!" The door opens to reveal a middle aged rito, his clothes in mere tatters, and his feathers slightly dirty. "Star, I'm happy to see you're safe. come inside, it's dangerous out here."

                "Teacher, have you heard the news? warfare has sprung in Logata. the king was also killed, sadly." The rito simply stroked his long, thin beard, eyes sharpening with concern. "yes, I am aware. though, that is not our problem. right now, I am still teaching you the ways of the sword, and you are not to stumble into that mess of a war." Star sits back against a chair, arms crossed. "I know teacher, but, I was thinking. we're running out of money, we could end up in the streets, If I were to enter the army, we could get more money!" "what did I just say Star? I don't want to risk you getting hurt, or even killed in that war!" the Teachers voice was firm.

                "right...sorry."
