Jack watched as Aria stepped closer and ran a hand down his neck, smiling as she looked him in the eyes. He gave a trill of delight, happy she was not only not scared of him, but seemed to delight in his feathery form. Deciding to show off a little, he spread his wings to their full length and gave them a few flaps, stirring the air. It took only a thought to dip the temperature down, causing a mini-blizzard inside the cave. He gave a few chirps as he folded his wings up again, pleased with his work as he saw snowflakes decorating Aria's brown hair.

Aria half-shielded herself with an arm when an unexpected blizzard hit the cave. Out of the corner of her eye she realized that it was the glacinox at the flurry's center sending snow everywhere. Aria squinted to watch until she had to wipe snowflakes off her eyelashes. She found the feeling of snow settling in her hair far from comfortable, but was nonetheless grinning as Jack eased back down. "Show off," she teased through repressed shivering. "Try flying me to my brother."

He cocked his head, turning it to look at her with one wide, curious eye. "Brother?" he squawked in a voice that would have been just as beautiful as his plumage, if not for his clumsy and immature nature. "You didn't say anything about a brother before."
Sylvanas rolled her eyes. "She can't understand you in that form," she informed him. "If you want her to know what you're saying, change back."
He looked at her, blinking a few times, before what she said actually clicked and he realized what she meant. He shook his head, embarrassed now, and shifted back to his human form. "Sorry, forgot that I can't speak proper when I'm a bird. I asked about your brother. You hadn't mentioned him before." He reached down and pulled his pants back on, as his bird legs had allowed them to slip down, then grabbed his vest again.

Aria thought the glacinox sounded adorable when he started squawking to her, and it almost sounded like he was asking "Brother?", but decided before long that she preferred man-Jack. It wasn't easy to stifle a girlish giggle once she got a look at his naked body. She liked what she saw, but the fact that Jack was also a bird prevented her from swooning too hard. The glacinox was too impressive a sight for words, but the shapeshifting plus his abnormal habitat would make Jack come off as a freak to anyone from her city. She was just grateful he turned out to be such a cute freak. When Jack took his vest, she realized she was staring and set her eyes to the distance. "Oh, I didn't?" Aria awkwardly responded after a little silence. "He's about four years younger than me. Eclipse." Chills ran down her spine when she said her brother's name, and it wasn't from the temperature this time. She hadn't heard the name for years. It was a miserable thought that Eclipse didn't exist in her new life. "Haven't seen him for years. He was so little when I lost him..." It killed Aria to discuss it, but she figured she might have to if she wanted Jack's help. However, as they spoke she was becoming very eager to leave.
After living in the castle so long it had become too easy to ignore thoughts about her brother, as if the stone walls had been thick enough to block out the emotions. Now that she was returning to the outside world where her brother had been so coldly left behind, the guilt was crashing down on her like an avalanche until she felt hopelessly buried. For a second she forgot Jack was even there and frosty tears began to form. It became apparent that if they didn't get a move on soon she would have a breakdown. She hated herself for letting so many years go by without even trying to look for Eclipse, and couldn't spare another second. When she tried to speak Aria was choked up, feeling sick of herself. "Can we please get going soon?"

Jack stared at Aria in bewilderment as her mood dropped to near depression as she spoke of her brother. He reached out to awkwardly pat her shoulder, unsure how to react to the tears he saw beginning to build in her eyes, and sparkling as they began to freeze in the frigid air. She brushed him off as she tried to regain control of herself and asked about leaving soon. Still completely thrown, he stammered, "Yeah, sure. Do... do you want to eat first?" He gestured to the small goat still sitting over the fire. "Or I could... I could cut it down and we can eat on the way down." Sylvanas snorted and hopped on the bed, turning around a few times before laying down with a huff and a sigh. She closed her eyes to narrow slits, continuing to watch them.

"I'm not terribly hungry, but if you need to eat you should eat," Aria told Jack. The sight of the goat over the fire wasn't entirely appetizing, and she didn't want to get sick before they reached the bottom of the mountain. So far it was a clear day, and she hoped to descend quickly before anything changed.

Jack frowned at Aria, then at the goat. "Okay," he said slowly, confused. Who would turn down a young goat, freshly roasted? He shrugged, deciding it was just a city thing, and began to cut up the carcass, setting the pieces aside. Some he wrapped up and placed in a pack, others he handed to Sylvanas, who lazily snapped them up. He strapped on his knife and tied a water skin to his belt, then secured his rope and pick to the pack and threw it on his shoulder. He turned to Aria, a chunk of goat in his hand. "Shall we go?" he asked, looking both at Aria and Sylvanas. The lynx simply sighed and heaved herself from the bed, snapping up the last of her meal before moving to stand by him.

"I'm ready if you are," Aria said, glancing from Jack's meat chunk to his chipped tooth. She winced a smile before pacing down a cliff to get a view down the mountain. It was clear enough to see for miles with only slight wisps of clouds hanging above the gray and green expanse ahead. However, there was a constant blowing of the wind that had begun to beat harder. Aria assumed it would go away as they lost altitude. Once her hair started getting tossed around she was tempted to take the time to braid it, but settled for her hood.

Jack followed her out, beginning to eat his meal with one hand while his other held the strap of his pack to help balance it on his shoulder. He couldn't help smiling at the crisp air, at the crunch of snow beneath his and Aria's feet. Sylvanas, of course, made next to no noise, her wide paws distributing her weight enough to avoid disturbing the snow overly much. He had always envied her that, but had yet to figure out a way to make his own feet move the same way.
"So where exactly are we going?" he asked Aria. He knew down the mountains, of course, but which side was she wanted to go down? The forest, where the Stari and Kokiri lived, or the field, where nearly everything else did? He couldn't remember if she'd said why she'd come up to begin with, although he wondered if it maybe had something to do with her brother, considering how eager she was to get going after mention of him came up. Didn't really help him pinpoint which direction to go, though, and he'd prefer to know where they were going to he could pick the safest path for her. There'd be a lot of scaling involved if he let her choose which direction to go, while he could avoid the steeper paths for the gentler slopes.

"Somewhere in the southern part of the forest we should be able to find the village where Eclipse and I grew up," Aria began as she walked along the cliff, unable to see a thing through the dense trees far below. "Or what's left of it. That's the only place I'd think would have any hints for us to go on." Now as she looked down upon the tightly woven leaf blanket covering the life of the forest, she realized how aimless her quest might be. They lacked any solid leads, and if a return to Pinehaven didn't yield any results, only luck could bring them to her brother.

Jack followed Aria, frowning thoughtfully. He didn't know of any villages in the forest other than the Stari home of Rayhaven and the Kokiri's Whitewood. Then again, he didn't know much about the forest at all, other than what he remembered his parents telling him. There was one thing she said, though, that he caught. "What so you mean, left of it? Did something happen? Is that why you two got separated?" He moved to walk alongside her, carefully positioning himself between her and the cliff edge. Sylvanas slipped between them to walk in front. Jack suppressed a laugh at her insistence to lead. He didn't mind, he was used to her claiming the front position. He was just amused that she claimed the leading role over Aria as well, despite having even less of an idea as to their destination than Aria did.

"It's a long story, but yes," Aria replied, avoiding dwelling on the topic for long. "We were separated by the destruction of our village. I was apparently taken past these mountains to the city, while for some reason I doubt Eclipse ever wound up on eastern side." She continued walking for a few seconds, watching Jack's pet as it took the lead. "Anyways, first thing's getting back down the mountain. Know of any easy route, or do we just have to climb?" Aria hoped Jack would know the way to some passage down the slope that would spare her skin of anymore scrapes.

Jack grimaced in sympathy as her story. He almost asked her about her brother and the village, but decided it would be better if he didn't when she changed the topic. "Depends on how quickly you want to go," he said in answer to her question. "There are plenty of game trails, paths the animals and weather have combined to carve out. But they can be tricky at best, and circuitous and dangerous at worst. On the other hand, we can scale the mountain. It's more direct and we can choose how we want to get down. That's dangerous though, even for me. Some routes can be okay, and it's definitely the quickest way, as long as we're careful." Of course, with her inexperience, he'd probably have to tie her to himself and Sylvannas with the rope, to catch her when she fell, and he'd have to be real careful the route he chose. But that would only be if she chose that option.

Aria glanced at the sheer drop not far beside her as Jack talked. Just the thought of scaling down that made her heart speed up. "Sorry, but I don't think the direct approach is an option for pretty little me," she said, sounding more playful than apologetic. "Unless you wanna carry me down?"

Jack frowned down the cliff side, once again not realizing she was teasing him. He knew he was strong enough to carry her, she was so tiny she likely weighed only a little more than Sylvannas. He had carried her a few times, just for an extra challenge, although the lynx was a little more compact and difficult to adjust than Aria likely was. He could make a harness with the rope and tie her in place on his back. Alternatively, he could try shifting to his glacinox form and flying her down. He was large and strong enough to carry her, but he had a hard enough flying with only his own weight. Carrying an additional weight, he'd crash without a doubt. So climbing would be the better choice.
"Yeah, I can carry you," he finally said aloud. "If I tie the rope just right, you can ride my back. Then as long as you don't lean back overly much, I can climb us both down easily enough." Right here would be easy enough to scale, although he was pretty sure right here didn't go straight down, he'd have to climb around a bit to find the base of the mountains. It'd be a new challenge, though, something different.
