    *Layla and Jenna arrive from "Nexus"*

    "There's the Stari camp," Layla said, pointing out the small group of tents. "Most of the Stari are probably still cleaning out the castle of dead and wounded, or helping in the infirmary. Do you want to see who is there and wait for others?"

    jenna smiled "I'm fine with waiting, I just want to have this book translated" she said "I could probably teach myself if that was the case. you know there are meant to be speical spells engraved in these tablets that only certain families can use. apparently there are clues to finding them, because they were hidden by an old witch family long ago. actually, the stories say that it was my ancestors that originally hid them, giving each families clues to their own tablets. apparently they were huge tricksters back in the day."

      Layla laughed softly. "Tricksters. Ah, annoying pests they can be, yet so fun to release onto other, unsuspecting souls." She lead the way to tents and sent out her mind to feel who was there. Not many, and those who were there had been wounded during the attack, but had been outside the walls. A few Stari moved among them, treating what they could. Those sensitive to her touch greeted her and asked what she sought. She told them, and asked if they knew any Stari who understood the witch tongue. They gave her a few names and images, but the one that really stuck to her was an old hag still in the forest. Supposedly, she was a descendent of a witch who had fled to live with the Stari.
      Layla thanked those she consulted with and turned to Jenna. "I have spoken with a few Stari. They know a few who understand the witch language, but most of them are either wounded to terribly to be of assistance, or back in the forest. One in particular is the daughter of a witch who joined our tribe in years past. Would you like to go to the forest to meet her, or remain here and wait for those already here to recover enough to aid you?"

        (lol, that reminds me of one of those choose your way books)

        Jenna thought about it for a moment "It might take time for them to get here, and when they do, they will be to busy running around healing injured. even know I think we will get in the way" she spoke her thoughts to Layla "I guess the one in the forest would be better, we will be out of the way, and if I mess up, less chance of anyone getting hurt."

          (lol I didn't even do it on purpose!)

          Layla smiled behind her mask. "Very well. I shall lead you into the depths of Bybourne Forest. Do you wish to stock up on supplies? I can very easily find us food and water inside the forest, and it is only a short journey there. However, if you wish to have food on hand that you recognize, I will guide you to the market first."

            "I believe I should grab some surplies" Jenna said, smiling around at the camp "just think it would be eaiser, plus, what if you get something I haven't eaten before and it makes me sick or something. god I sound like some overly paranoid girly girl, yuck. but my point stands, I would rather be safe then sorry"

              "Very well." She took Jenna's arm and gently guided her to the markets of Logata City. "And it does not make you paranoid, it makes you sensible. While the Stari are well versed in woodcraft, not many trust our skills at cooking." She smiled down at the young witch, even though it was hidden behind her mask.

                sensing that Layla was smiling, she smiled back at her "well, it's a good thing my mother thought cooking was a more useful skill then witchcraft" she said with a laugh as she walked around the market looking for diffrent meats and vegetables that she had liked to eat as a child.

                  Layla laughed. "That is good. Few understand the difficult art of cutlery." She listened to Jenna's mind and, seeing the images in it, helped her find the various foods she wanted. Sometimes she could find them with a quick glance, but other times she had to 'cheat' a little and check the minds of merchants for their goods. She was tempted to use her ability to force them to sell to Jenna for free, or at least a reduced prince, but refused. If the witch decided to haggle over prices, she'd assist, but otherwise she'd let be.

                    Jenna didn't believe that any of the prices were unreasonable, until she got to a store which sold her favorite food, marinated cucoo. "150 rupees" the man at the store said "no more no less"
                    "150!" Jenna said with disbelief "that's way to expensive. I'll give you 50"
                    "it's 150 ma'am take it or leave it" replied the man
                    "who would pay 150 for a pice of cucco, it doesn't even sound right"

                      Layla silently laughed at Jenna's exasperation, then dove into the man's mind and tweaked a few thoughts. He blinked suddenly, then said, "Well, I guess for a pretty girl like you I can do cheaper." Layla grinned as she made him accept the 50 Rupees. Then she felt around a little so that later when he found he was short, he'd think he was man-handled into doing, but he wouldn't have that memory until the thought of having too little reacted it.

                        Jenna was shocked when the man took the 50 rupees but didn't argue. instead she paid him and walked back over to Layla "you did something to him didn't you" Jenna said softly to her "the man, he was far to stubborn to give up on normal terms" she smiled up at Layla "thank you, this sort of meat is my favourite, I can't believe it only cost me 50 rupees, even my mother use to have to pay at least 70 rupees for it, and she got it cheaper because she was a cook"

                          Layla bowed. "You have caught me," she said, a smile in her voice. "150 is an extravagant price for something such as cuccoo. True, it is difficult to obtain, but there are people who know the secrets of the creatures. I know this because the Stari have long since sold the secret of their language." She suddenly grinned wickedly. "Would you like to hear an example? I am versed in the languages of birds, rather than the beasts of land like many of my brothers and sisters."

                            "really that's amazing" Jenna said with a smile "I would love to see an example of it, and I have to agree. cucco is delicious but I wouldn't pay 100 rupees let alone 150 rupees. are your people always that stubborn or is it just him because he seemed very grouchy to me"

                              Layla grinned, then adjusted her mask so that it didn't hinder her voice at, but left her burns still hidden. She called out as loudly as she could, like a cuccoo who had just been attacked too viciously for its liking. Instantly a swarm of cuccoos flew in to the rescue and directed their persistent bombardment to the cuccoo merchant. Layla shifted her mask back and lead Jenna to a more sheltered location. Just because she had told the other cuccoos she had been attacked by the merchant, they might get it into their heads to attack her and Jenna. She grinned at Jenna. "Stari know how to call cuccoos, and I suspect that we could very easily send the cuccoos away when one is being attacked. I could probably get you one know, if I wanted to risk the blood."
