    *Coming from HERBES*

Ranger stopped the horse and the other Stari imitated him. They had taken them after realizing how far Smokehead Mountain actually was. The heat of the volcano was already pressing against Ranger's throat. He was so used to the quiet clean of the forest, the ash and heat was almost unbearable. He dismounted and pulled the mouth cover of his robes up to cover his mouth and nose. He walked over to Nyx. "General, I believe it'd be best if you waited here while I go size up what we're up against," he said respectfully. He turned to the others and signaled them to wait as well. Then he hurried forward, careful not to be spotted.
As he neared the city, the heat grew. When he got a good view of the inside he hid behind a rock and looked over everything. There were guards and they were armed with some thing that looked advanced. Other gorons were inside walking around. Maybe patrolling Ranger thought. One thing he did notice, however, was the lack of places for the Stari to position themselves. Most of the city was out in the open and there were Gorons everywhere. In their current strategy, there was no way this would work out. Sighing, he returned to Nyx to inform her that they should go back to the castle.

Nyx saw Ranger returning, seeming disappointed. "Change of plans?" she asked. She figured they would all need heavy armor, but she had hoped they wouldn't. The Stari weren't the greatest at assaults like this could turn out to be.

"Yeah," Ranger said once he was close enough. "I don't think it's a good idea to go in now. I believe we should report back to Rhykim and return with a better plan. The Gorons are too well organized, and just Stari isn't enough to defeat them." He sighed as he got back on the horse. "Let's just hope we get back before sunrise, I don't want this trip to be a complete waste of time." The other Stari nodded in agreement.

Nyx nodded. "We should be back as long as we hurry." She turned her horse and glanced back at the others. "Are we all ready?"

The other Stari nodded and turned their horses around. Ranger took his place beside Nyx and waved the others forward. They began riding away back to the castle, and he looked at Nyx and smiled before motioning the horse forward. It would be a long ride back, but at least they were all OK for now.

            *Coming from HERBES*

Nyx crouched next to Ranger on a rocky outcropping overlooking the home of the Gorons, Luna close behind her. "From what I can gather, the weapons are being kept in that structure in the center," she said, pointing at a cave guarded by two Goron gunners. "I have some poisons that will knock them out with me. If we take them both out simultaneously, the other will not be able to alert the guards stationed in other places, like the main entrance and the guards on patrol." As she spoke, Nyx gestured to the other guards, pointing them out to Ranger. "If we can get close enough, I can poison one with my dagger and you can get the other with an arrow. I think it would be better than killing them, as it would raise less alarm. Guards sleeping on the job is much less suspicious than dead guards. For it to work out though, you can only graze the guard with an arrow, because an arrow sticking out of a Goron's leg is sure to raise alarm. If you want, you can stay here if you think you can still accurately graze the guard and I can sneak up there and give the signal to shoot so they both go down at the same time. I would be less likely to be spotted than if we both went. What do you think?"

Ranger listened to Nyx in silence. In his mind, he drew a diagram of the Goron headquarters and began measuring. How far would a cry travel from point A? Was point A within view of point B? Would the whistle of an arrow be caught by the corner of an eye in point B? How long would it take reinforcements to get from point B to point A? He thought about all these things, and came to the conclusion that it was a sound plan. Dara came to sit next to him and looked at the Gorons in silence. After another moment of silence he nodded. "Yes, I agree. I'll stay back and make sure the second guard doesn't cry out. I'm just worried the hard skin will deflect the arrow, specially if I only graze it," he mentioned. In his mind, he began looking at a Goron and decided the face would be the best shot at grazing soft skin. "It doesn't matter, I'll make sure it works." He half-smiled and looked back at the guards. "Are you ready?"

(And J read my post but in case it may be forgotten, I established in Verass Diplomacy that the Gorons were tipped off and that there is a semi-large sized force on the move to flank the Stari.)

Ranger took a deep breath as he waited, arrow pointed, ready to strike. He was going to follow Nyx's plan, so the arrow had been dipper in her poison. She was currently hidden behind a rock very close to the two guards. Her dagger was also poisoned, and their coordination would be perfect. She'd take out the guard on the right, he'd poison the one on the left. No one would notice, as the next patrol wasn't due for a few minutes. He just waited for her signal, and he'd release his grip. Nothing could go wrong.

Just as Nyx got close to the guard on the left, she heard a deep Goron voice bellow "Intruders!" from behind her. But the patrol wasn't due for a few more minutes! she thought to herself as the shock sunk in. Before the guard nearest her could strike, she stabbed him and took his weapon. Luckily Stari are so much faster than gorons. I'm not fast enough to get the blueprints, so just this weapon will have to do. Nyx ran as fast as she could up to where Ranger and her backup was stationed as the poisoned goron that she had struck fell to the ground, his eyes rolling back in his head. The guard that had been with him rushed to his aid, while the patrol took off after Nyx. Many more stepped from their hiding places as Nyx ran, and she feared she would be surrounded.

Ranger cursed under his breath, clearly having been wrong. He turned his aim to one of the patrollers chasing Nyx and let the arrow fly at him. The poison took him out quickly, but there were already more Gorons there to replace him. Quickly, he let out a deep whistle he was used to making, signaling the two Stari with them to help. They popped up from their hiding spots and began shooting at the Gorons. There was no space for modesty anymore, they had to make a hole in the Goron defence before they were surrounded.

Nyx saw the brief opening and bolted, managing to make it back to Ranger and the other Stari. She mounted her horse as Luna came to her side. "Retreat! Back to Rhykim now!" she commanded, spinning her horse in the direction of the general.

Ranger shot one last arrow before jumping back on his own horse. He other Stari followed suit. Dara was ready to bolt as well, and Ranger followed Nyx, not looking back. It seemed they'd all made it out. He didn't know where they were going, but he was sure Nyx knew.
