Zulo was slightly calmed when Zaria said that Ubajow was just a legend to her. It sounded like nobody had actually seen the monster before. As they sat, the sun grew brighter, but Zulo was focused on something else. He was looking around the waters, and once again saw the fin appear and disappear. It was pretty big, too. He kept his eye out, and sure enough, saw it a third time. That was enough. By the third glimpse, he had seen the true hugeness of the fin and knew something was up. "Do you see that?" Zulo whimpered, beginning to shake with fear. He was worried that Zaria would never see it and think Zulo was just being paranoid. But he was sure he had seen it, even though the fin only stayed above the water for a second each time.

Zaria peered into the water and watched the fin dart in and out. "It's probably a shark or something, don't worry about it. The rest of the crew will be up soon enough and we can eat and if it keeps swimming by we'll do something about it." she decided with a shrug. "Pull yourself together, I can hear your knees knocking."

"Sharks are that huge?" Zulo asked. He watched and witnessed the fin once more. One time at Clearcliff, a Rito brought in a shark for a dinner feast, and even though he was much smaller then, he remembered it being a lot smaller than the one he was seeing now.

Felix smiled. He could see in what direction the conversation was heading, and while he rejected the idea of a helping cook he knew it would be hard to convince Tyra otherwise. "Perhaps," he mentioned, pondering the question, "I haven't be able to tell about his natural abilities with edibles, but if he is able to follow instructions properly...perhaps." This vague answer made him feel like he both satisfied his own belief and Tyra's preferences with her crew. Suddenly he could feel the ship changing course, so he assumed Zaria was teaching Zulo in the different abilities it took to navigate. He, personally, had learned a few skills being aboard the ship, but he by no means considered himself an expert. It was only for the culinary skills that he chose to reserve that title.

(Coulda waited for me to finish the cinnamon rolls before you started on the monster fish. :P)

Tyra nodded as she started to knead and roll out the dough. "I'd appreciate it if you could teach him what you could. I have a tendency to use you for any under-cover missions, and when you're gone, we have to deal with Corin's fish-cooking." She made a face. Her brother was great at catching fish, but when it came to cooking them, he lacked imagination, thinking that just cooking them in a stew was good. Usually, it was not.
She felt the ship changing course and rocked her weight to keep from ruining the dough she was rolling. "Figured I'd gone off-course at some point,:" she said with a smile. "Glad she was able to catch it before I took us too far south." She checked to make sure the dough was smooth and even, then picked up the cinnamon mixture and started to brush it on the dough. "You know, we could teach you to navigate too, if you ever wanted to. I know you know some of the basics, but you never know when you need to know where you are and how to get where you're going."

Felix thought about trying to teach the new guy. It was hard to conceive the thought as he'd never taught anyone to cook anything before. Just little things to some of the crew when they spent time in the galley like how much spice something should have, or how to slice most of the rough parts off a fish. But to teach him how to cook? He'd have to think about it when his mind was a bit clearer. "Perhaps sometimes," he said in response to the second question, "although I'm rarely up there and when I am it's to head out on a mission, so I don't see what good I could do." They kept up the small talk for a while more. As Tyra got close to finishing, he could see her eyes become more and more bloodshot, and her reflexes slow. It was clear she needed some sleep. "Hey, you should get some rest, Cap'n. What good are you to us half-dead?" he joked.

She snorted as she started to roll the dough like a scroll, the cinnamon on the inside. "Ain't no one more useful than me alive when I'm half-dead. 'Cause when you're nearly dead, you fight all the harder to stay alive. And I fight hardest of all, because I have a family to take care of." She could admit, though, she was feeling tired. Once she'd finished these cinnamon rolls, she'd check on the watchers, bringing some of the pipin' hot buns, then wake her brother and tell him he was in charge while she took a nap. Taking a knife, she deftly cut the roll shorter rolls, careful to keep them the same thickness. It was simple matter to then transfer them to a pan and put them in a oven. As they cooked, she continued to chat with Felix while whipping up some sweet frosting to pour on them. "Not too much longer," she murmured as the sweet smell of the baking cinnamon rolls filled the galley.

To Felix, the smell was the best part about cooking, any day, every day. Whether it be spicy boiling tear-erupting, warm steamy sugary that melts down through your throat, or, his favorite, the smell of recently baked delights. Tyra's cinnamon rolls were no exception. He sniffed the air, smiled from ear to ear, and made a noise in the back of his throat signifying he approved. "Those smell great. But really though, if you don't go straight to bed after you hand these out, I will see to it that your captain's licence be revoked, and you be sentenced to a hundred days of cooking. And I mean it." He crossed his arms and waited for the few seconds or minutes that remained.

Tyra laughed as she pulled the buns from the oven and spread the icing over them. "Well then, mister Beaver, I had best take these topside before those Ritos decide they want to sing for their breakfast. And I've yet to meet anyone who can carry a tune, except my brother, and only when he's drunk." She flashed him a grin, tossed him one of the cinnamon rolls, then took her laden platter up to the two Rito. "Morning, you two. Have any fun last night?"

Zaria grinned when she saw the captain with breakfast. Cinnamon rolls were the best treat on the sea, and she caught one from Tryonica. "Nothing bad to report, so I suppose fun is what it could be called. Zulo thought he saw Ubajow, but I guarantee it was just a curious shark." She waved off the boy's suspicions and took a bite of her roll. "Breakfast is great this morning, by the way."

Tyra shook her finger at the grinning Rito. "Of course it's great. If you said it was anything else, you'd find yourself scrubbing the bowls I used to make it." She made her way belowdecks again, calling over her shoulder, "Keep an eye on that shark, just in case. We don't want him to start thinking it'll be fun to see how strong our ship is. He hits us too many times and we'll sink." She waved cheerfully at the pair, then went down to her brother's room. He was still sleeping, as she expected, so she simply waved his cinnamon roll in front of his nose, then set it on a small plate on the shelf above him, careful to make sure it wouldn't slide off. That would wake him and she'd sleep easier knowing he was keeping an eye on her beloved ship. Jasin and Dean would make their way to the galley for their breakfast later, likely eat what remained of her creations. That was fine, though. She had made sure to bring an extra one with her, so she could eat it just before going to bed.
Her quarters were larger than of the rest the crew. Occupying the whole stern of the vessel, Tyra's room had a large table bolted down in the center, a variety of maps and other parchments scattered across it. It was impossible to keep them neat, given how much the ship moved on the water, so she didn't bother. She'd developed a method to tell which paper was what. Anything with a blue corner was a map, anything green was a flier for a possible job, red was occupied by notes of some sort or another, and the yellowish off-white was plain parchment that had yet to be used. The tools she used, such as the compass and inkwell with its quill pen, were kept in a latched compartment at the base of the table. A smaller table with an accompanying chair were bolted just to the side of the room, where she sometimes took her meals when she needed to think. Her bunk was built into the wall opposite the door, on the very back of the ship. An alcove at its head was where she kept the small bag she used in case of a medical emergency, although she was not particularly skilled in the art of healing.
Holding the sweet bun in her mouth, Tyra pulled off her boots, tossing them under the chair, then threw her coat over the back. Her sword was placed so it leaned against her bed while the eyepatch she sometimes wore was placed in the alcove. She sat on the edge of the bed, eating the treat as she looked at the paintings dotting the walls. Each one depicted a scene she had described to a trusted painter, usually from an adventure with her crew, often exaggerated as was pirate custom. She was always careful to make sure they were attached so that they wouldn't fall on her in the case of a storm. The largest picture, though, was her favorite one: a painting of the whole crew standing on the dock with White Wolf in the background. It was the only one she had splurged on a proper glass frame for, with a wave pattern to the dark cherry wood. Since only Corin and sometimes Felix ever came to her quarters, no one else had seen the picture, but she always thought on it, wondering what would happen if she'd need it adjusted. Now she was happy to know that it would need to be redone to include the new members. She smiled, licking the last of the icing from her fingers. She pulled a canteen from under her mattress and raised it in salute to the painting. "To many more adventures, White Wolf." Taking a quick swig of the bracing liquid inside, she replaced the canteen, making a note to refill it soon, and lay down, quickly rocked to sleep in her beloved ship.

Zulo was taken by surprise a little when Tyra emerged from below deck with a tray of freshly baked cinnamon rolls. From what he knew, pirate crews were rarely this lighthearted. No, he was definitely not on a grungy old pirate ship. He thought he had caught a whiff of the sweet cinnamon smell before, but now it was stronger than ever. He gladly took a bite when Tyra gave him one of the pastries, and felt an amazing sensation he had never experienced before. In the moments while he ate, all of Zulo's worries hid away. He couldn't even talk, just enjoying the frosted delight while it lasted.

...Suddenly, the Gerudo woman transformed into a pastry.
Corin's deep, dreamy sleep was finally interrupted when his snoring choked up on one of his favorite smells. He immediately sensed his sister's cinnamon rolls. Being the lazy boy Corin is, this was one of the few things that could wake him quickly. It was his favorite way to wake up, too. He opened his eyes just as his door closed, and he knew Tyra had just snuck one of her rolls into his room. He spun around and grabbed the roll off the shelf above his pillow, chowing down in no time. He managed to slow himself down to enjoy the sweet taste, but as always, there came the disappointing moment when his roll was gone in his belly. The dreariness kicked back in as soon as his tongue was calm again, and Corin couldn't help falling back asleep, even though there was a chance Tyra had woken him for a reason.

Felix, feeling a bit more tired than before but still not wanting to return to his cold quarters, stumbled through the dark hallways of the ship with only his thoughts to keep him company. He had enjoyed talking with Tyra, but it hadn't been enough to completely get his mind off of his past. He tried relaxing, making up conversations in his mind, and finally humming one of the song's Corin played, which then turned into a lullaby he remembered from his youth. He slowly rested against the wall just behind the stairs leading on deck, and slid down to the floor. Before he knew it, he had hummed himself into a quiet rest.

(I think we should post everyone moving into a new thread, and then whoever is going to start the monster thing can post the new thread. After all, it is no longer the "start" of the White Wolf's Journey :P. I'll go ahead and say we're leaving, but if anyone else has any business in this thread feel free to post after me.)
