Sephira froze. She could guess where this was heading, and she didn't like it. But she couldn't lose him. If he was already using those signals, she couldn't back down. His foot was caught in her trap, she just had to catch him. She steeled herself and smiled coyly, cocking her head slightly. "I don't know. I'm still new to Termina, so I'm not sure yet what your people like to do for fun. How about you tell me?" She cringed as she said the words, although her expression didn't change except for a slight strain around her masked eyes. She had to do this, had to play it just right to snare her prey. Goddesses grant she could avoid such actions, but if it came to it....

Sephira couldn't help but admire his torso, well-built and taunt with muscles. Still, she was hesitant to take the next and final step. Was she truly willing to do this for the rebels? She had only ever done it once before, a true mating with the man she loved, before he betrayed her. Could she do it with a man she felt nothing for? One she'd eventually betray?
She latched onto that thought, using it to bolster her resolve. Vincent had used it to gain her trust before betraying her, now she was doing the same to another man. That was really why she disliked it so, because its result had been betrayal. This time, though, she'd be the betrayer; she wouldn't be hurt by it.
She reached up and undid the clasp holding the shoulder of the dress, then stood, allowing the garment to fall to the ground around her feet. With a quick kick, it was across the room, followed quickly by her boots. She smiled at him, wearing nothing but the mask, her body bare for him to see. A scar gleamed on her chest where a knife had plunged into her heart, another went through her from her right hip and through her back. Other small injuries had resulted in further scars that dotted her body. The phoenix tattoo on her shoulder was also unveiled, as well as the one of Star and Midnight on her left hip.
"You'll want to be careful how rowdy you play with me," she said sweetly. "I have a tendency to play rough myself, and I'm not always aware of just how far I take it." A few sparks appeared on her shoulder and danced along her body before disappearing again.

Despite herself, Sephira had fun. She'd expected to feel guilty and dirty, but instead she felt satisfied. It was an unusual feeling for the deed, she felt, and she'd have to remember to make one of the herbal teas that would prevent any lasting effects from it. Still, she was glad she had gone through with it. She brushed knots out of her hair with her fingers and she pulled her dress back on, making a note to wash the sweat off when she had a free moment.

"We should probably check on the scouts," she said, surprised he had asked her opinion. He already respected her that much? Or was it something else? She started putting her hair in a braid, deciding that she shouldn't worry about it. Unless it interfered with her mission, it wasn't important.

Maxwell nodded. They were probably full of information, and the faster he got around to talking to them, the faster they could go back to get more information. "Alright then, let's go."

Maxwell and Sephira arrived in front of the East Gate, the established meeting place. The scout looked like any other civilian, but he was leaning up against the wall, unlike the others, who seemed to be constantly needing to go somewhere.

"Is it nice or naughty?" Maxwell asked the scout. The scout looked up, saw Maxwell, and grinned.

"Oh, sir, they are naughty out there. They're asking for it, sir." Maxwell smiled. This was good news to him.

"What are the naughty children up to now, my trusted friend?"

"You wouldn't believe it. They aim to challenge your holdings on the bay, and they sent a team to ruin the talks our people are having with the Gorons. Oh, it is getting wild, sir! Who should I deliver your message to, and what should I tell them?"

Maxwell thought about this. It was probably good to send a team of normal soldiers to aide the soldiers at the bay, and a mixed team of stealthy soldiers and trackers, which would probably be from the Legion.

"Two messages, friend. Tell one of the commanders to dispatch a force of forty to help the force at the bay, and tell the Legion to send a few of their men to make the team heading into Snowhead disappear." The scout nodded, obviously eager to do his job.

"Oh yes, sir. We'll make the problems disappear. For the glory of Termina." And with that, the scout was off.

(By the way, Maxwell's army is split into two huge divisions. One is the actual army, that will fight the big battles, and the other is the Legion, who were used in the Invasion and are used for smaller jobs and covert ops. For example, the scout is a Legionnaire who is a favorite of Maxwell's who is intensely loyal to him.)

Sephira followed Maxwell to the eastern gate, where another man was waiting. She listened with some amusement to their talk, wondering if he really saw the rebels as nothing more than 'naughty children'. It also surprised her that he was willing to discuss something in the open like this, where anyone could overhear and report it. Was he really so confident in his surroundings? Not that it mattered, really. She could hear and send word of it on. She just needed to find some means to write with, and Zarola. Where was that panther at anyways? Sephira didn't remember seeing her since Maxwell had left her with the tour guide.
As if summoned by her thoughts, Zarola came trotting over. Sephira was shocked to see blood decorating her muzzle, as if she'd just caught and eaten some prey. A black leopard, calmly walking around with blood for everyone to see. Sephira couldn't help but liken the image to herself. She was the black cat, the creature who could kill easily and had no problems doing so. She had already demonstrated to Maxwell the lengths she would go to defend herself. Would he recognize that she was protecting others now? Would the blood she'd spill decorate her so clearly, so obviously? She hoped not. She wanted to go back to the forest, to peaceful days hunting with Star and Midnight. To the night in Elliot's new house, where she slept curled against James. When this is over, I'll find a way to wash the stains away, she promised herself.
"Naughty children, huh," she said aloud, careful to keep her voice amused. "The only naughty child I had to deal with that was such a handful was Zarola, and even then, she was usually a good girl." The panther snorted and sat next to her, then proceeded to calmly wash off the blood.

Maxwell chuckled, remembering that Sephira did not know the creative vocabulary Maxwell used with the scout.

"Well, out of context, it does sound rather ridiculous. However, we use that phrase to make any people walking by think that we're lunatics, like the one I just talked to. Then, by not directly naming the force of misguided people led by a man who thought sticking to the old ways was better than keeping their best friend, the information sounds weird if anyone overhears it, mainly because most of the people who live in this town aren't even aware that their friends and family are at the mercy of a heartless monster who pretends to be an angel. The people who are aware are my people."

Maxwell got a little angry while saying this, mainly because it involved Edward, but calmed down, knowing that he wasn't pleasant to be around when angry, and that he might have to explain the history.

Sephira frowned as she noticed the buried fury his tone. 'A man who thought sticking to old ways was better than keeping their best friend'. So Edward and Maxwell did know each other rather well. She'd had an inkling of it when Edward had assigned her this role. Now she'd have a chance to dig into a little more, find out if there was more to this war. But carefully. He was clearly still angry about whatever it was Edward had done. She put a hand on his shoulder and started to lead him away. She was sure his temper wasn't as bad as hers, since her fire flared with her emotions, but it probably would be better to make sure he wasn't around others if he did let his anger loose. "So you know their leader personally?"

Maxwell sighed, not disturbed on the fact that he had to tell the story, but he didn't like the story itself.

"His name is Edward. He is originally from Labrynna. He came to my mansion when we were both eight, after my parents had...passed away. The reason he had come was because he did not like how his parents were raising him, and knew that my family was friends with his. And because I was lonely, bored, and needed a friend, I welcomed him. And we became friends, obviously. Then, a few days later, a man from a tribe called the Hidden came to the mansion. My family had a tradition that someone from the Hidden would come to the next in lines when they were eight or ten, and take them away for ten years to be trained and essentially raised. It made my family very powerful in the past, so no one had any objections. When the man came, he was more than happy to take both me and Edward, so he did. For the next ten years, me and Edward bonded over training that pushed us to our mental and physical limits, as well as our limits as fighters. Three years ago, Edward and I completed that training, and we went on to enjoy the good things in life for the next two years. At the end of those two years, another man from the Hidden came to me and told me that what Edward and I were doing was unacceptable. I found it ridiculous that they decided how we lived our lives, and they thought it was ridiculous that I thought it was ridiculous. Long story short, they're gone now. When Ed found out....." Maxwell paused here, knowing that this was the frustrating part, and he needed to cool down a little. "When Ed found out, he was very, very mad. During the fight, I revealed my desire to make Termina stronger, but he opposed the idea strongly, and refused to talk about it. He left, and I haven't since him since. It's been a year, and now that I've gone through with my plan, he's got his little rebellion."

Sephira rubbed his shoulder, a little surprised by what he'd told her. Trained by a group called the Hidden, who wanted him to live a more meaningful life, and whom he killed for trying to meddle. This was a dangerous man, not one that should be crossed. She hoped this plan didn't fail, otherwise she'd be in trouble when Maxwell found out she was to be a traitor. She could understand Edward's reasons to be against him, but revenge made it the war more complicated and selfish. "So this is more personal than just any other uprising," she commented, while praying that her friends would stay safe.

                          Maxwell nodded.

"Very much. Edward is good at deceiving people, so he has probably told them that he's doing it for the good of everyone, when in reality, he is doing it because hates me. Which is good, because I hate him too."

Maxwell quickly hailed a carriage driver, and told him the directions to the mansion. The driver nodded, and asked for money, but after a quick reminder, the driver happily gave them a 'discount'. Maxwell and Sephira got on, and the driver started moving.

"I haven't figured out what I will do with the civilians that have sided with them. They are challenging my authority, but they don't know any better. Edward is tricking them all, so they can't really be blamed. But still...."

"Call him out," Sephira said as she settled herself in the carriage seat. It was a little weird for her, sitting in a moving box, but she tried not to show how uncomfortable it made her. She'd seen members of the Castle Town nobility riding around in carriages before, so she would be expected to be familiar with riding one. "Call him to fight you one-on-one. That will settle it quickly, without harming any more innocents." And will keep my friends out of this.

Maxwell laughed, finding the idea amusing.

"If there's one thing Edward is, above all other things, he is a coward. If I tried meeting him in person, his followers would murder me. If I sent him a letter to meet me somewhere, he would lead me to a trap. Anyway I can approach it, he would trap me somehow. So, I'm stuck playing his game of trying to weaken my kingdom. As much as I want to get this over quickly, I can't end it before he wants it to end, or else I'll be exactly where he wants me."

"And where is that, exactly?" she asked, a little miffed. From what she had seen, Edward wasn't a coward. He could be forceful, stubborn, and would use any means necessary to accomplish his goals, but he didn't seem a coward. Any one who could stand up to her like he had when they first met had to have some guts, especially given how volatile she had been at that moment. Now, if he felt that Maxwell was more likely to win a fight, then yes, he'd choose to continue to ***** away at the beast. That didn't make him a coward.
