Gerrard continued to look out to the sea as James said his story. A happy story, it had been a while since he had heard one of those. The story was bittersweet to Gerrard, however, losing his family at the age of 12 could do that to a person. Change a heartwarming story to a sad one at the mention of his family. Gerrard pushed that out of his mind, today he was going to change himself, from the Gerrard of the past into the Gerrard of the future. He then nodded at James, tore his eyes away from the sea, and followed him back to the campsite; eager to get this journey started.

James was halfway through his bowl when a young boy stumbled into their camp. He had seen him rushing to them from far away, but didn't deem him a threat which is why he chose not to stop him. The boy was only wearing some torn trousers, his hair was dirty and unwashed, and his hands and face had grime all over them. He tripped on the sand and almost fell before reaching them, but managed to stumble and stand before them. He looked around at all of them with wide brown eyes, in awe. It seemed like it took him more than a minute to remember what his purpose there was. "Um, yeah I think ye must be the forest girl's group, 'ight? Um, m'lord Shane sent me. He, um, says the hour grows lit...no...er late, hour grows late. The ship is set 'n ready for ye, so he would, um, have you there as fast as yer feet may carry ye." He licked his lips over and over, and sweat beads were forming on his brow. James noticed how his fingers kept fumbling with something red in his hand. He stood and got closer to the boy.
      "What's your name, lad?"
"Tristan...m'lord, son of Torstol." James shook his head.
"I'm not your lord, Tristan, nor is Shane I suspect. Nevertheless, a red rupee is well worth carrying a message." He took two blue ones from his wallet, which felt empty even before the money was withdrawn, and placed them in the boy's hands. Ignoring how his eyes lit up, he continued. "Hurry back to him now, tell him we'll soon be there and he'd do well to wait for us. And then, I think you'd be wise to get away from that man, Tristan. Don't trust him if he promises anything, and be safe now. Go on." He shooed the boy off, and watched him scamper back down the long beach. He then turned to the others.
      "Shall we be going then?"

Sephira smiled. "Of course you can," she said, handing him a bowl. She served the others as well, then placed a bowl down for Star to eat from. Midnight she let clean the pot. As she ate her own food, she turned to watch the sea. While she wasn't a huge fan of water, she was still curious what being on a ship was like. Would it be like flying, only on a ship?
She glanced back as she heard quick steps and saw a boy run up to James. A few words were exchanged, then the boy ran off again, happy to have passed on Shane's impatience. She smiled at James' question. "Once we've finished eating and packing up. Although personally, I'm inclined to make him wait a while longer." Her smile turned devilish for a moment before she turned back to her soup.

Jackylin, who'd been quiet for the most part and really picked at her soup more than ate, spoke up finally. "Sephira, I know you don't have positive feelings to Shane, but don't you think we should go before he revokes his offer?" she moved all the chunks in her soup to one side and took a bite of just the liquid. "Not to say your plans are subpar, but..." she was quiet, and looked at her with wide brown eyes.

Gerrard sat there picking at his soup slowly, spending most of the time thinking to himself, not noticing much around him. A ship, Gerrard had never been on a ship, and never thought he would ever be on one. Yet, here he was. A ship to a new land, the new world, a new life. Gerrard stirred his soup with his spoon and nibbled slowly on it, the day was nice outside. The sun beat down overhead and the blue waves crashed on the shore. The sound of seagulls echoed through the air and several of them hungrily eyed the fish soup that lay in their bowls but never dared to venture near. Gerrard began to brush sand out of his hair, running his fingers methodically through, and he emptied his boots. The rumor was true, sand truly does get everywhere when you're on the beach, and it was truly the only negative thing about it. There was even a grain of sand in his soup, Gerrard noticed as he boringly studied the soup. He fished it out with his fingers and flung it annoyingly to the side, taking a bite and chewing slowly afterwards. The soup wasn't bad, to be honest, but Gerrard had never been a huge fan of fish. Fish were scarce in any small streams he had seen before, and this ocean was obviously full of them. Gerrard himself was surprised at how easily the fish were caught in the ocean. It was teeming with fish, even now Gerrard could see fish jumping in the air not far from shore. He looked to his left, seeing Jacklyn and decided to break the silence by talking, how'd you sleep? Gerrard pondered, after swallowing a bite of stew.

Jackylin stirred her soup for a minute, watching it turn in the bowl. "I could've slept better," she said finally, turning a little to face Gerrard while not completely cutting off Sephira. "The sand looks softer than it actually is when you lie in it, and I've got a ton of sand in my braid." she shook it with one hand and some sand fell out. "Do you have a brush?" she smiled sheepishly, realizing he had short hair and it was usually messy. Even if he did have one, it was probably seldom used.

Gerrard nodded in agreement. The sand was in fact soft, sleep came easily, although that could easily be because of his exhaustion but he had no argument. Gerrard shook his head at Jacky's question I haven't used a brush in a long while, he said. I have no need, with my hair being as short as it is, so I never bothered myself to carry one around. There was then a short lull in the conversation, Gerrard took several more bites of the soup, nearly finishing the bowl and then asked. Have you ever been on a boat, Jacky, or seen the sea before this? Gerrard felt odd seeing something he had never seen before, and wanted to see if he was the only one, the only one with a childhood as isolated as his.

"I've seen the lake in Hyrule, but never an ocean like this," she set her soup in the sand and clasped her hands, looking over the dancing waves and the gulls chasing one another over the water. "I haven't been in a boat either, or ever really seen this much sand." she looked down and wiggled her toes in the sand. She should probably put her boots on sooner rather than later, but talking to Gerrard was nice. So, she'd wait. "What about you?"

Gerrard put his bowl of soup on the sand, a bite remained but Gerrard couldn't stomach it at this moment. I only saw small streams in Hyrule Field for most of my life, and only been to Lake Hylia twice, he responded. Never been on a boat either. It's kinda shocking to have gone this far. Just yesterday I was back at my village... Gerrard said this with a slight smile on his face as he thought of his past, talking to someone always helped with this, and Jacklyn seemed happy to return the favor with talk of her own past.

Jackylin let her part of her mind wander back to Hyrule, back to long days of running errands and wandering the country. To the lake and the mountain and the huge grassy field. My dad worked at the lake, so I went there almost daily. But, when I didn't have to watch my siblings, I split for Termina." she laughed a little. "I should've learned how to swim, huh?"

Would've helped for sure, Gerrard said, the smile growing larger over his face. For some reason, it sounded like something Gerrard would have done, he never had any interesting in swimming. And before his siblings were killed he hated watching over him. He leaned back with a sigh and nearly lost his balance, catching himself with his hand on the log before he could topple backwards. he took off his boots, stretching his toes and left his old socks on, so he could be ready to go any moment. Do you think you'll ever miss home? Gerrard suddenly asked. He didn't even have a home, so this "homesick" feeling people talk about had never applied to him.

Jackylin laughed at Gerrard when he almost fell, so much so that she fell back herself. She picked herself up and shook the excess sand from her hair in time to catch his question. Then, she became very quiet. Homesickness wasn't something she thought of very often, mostly so she didn't get homesick. She'd thought of writing to her family now and then, but she didn't have the rupees to pay for postage when she did. "I think when I really figure out how far I am, I will." she said finally. "I haven't been in Termina for that long, but maybe when we get out onto the open sea..." Jackylin's voice trailed off.

Gerrard burst out laughing when Jacky fell backwards. The look of shock on her face was priceless as she fell backwards. However, in his mirth he accidentally kicked his fish stew over, spilling it across the sand. Still chuckling he buried the stew in sand and picked the bowl up. The bowl was the last thing he needed to pack, so he decided to go wash it out. I'll be right back. He said to Jacky, and he trotted off to wash off the bowl in the sea.

Sephira rolled her eyes and muttered to herself at Jacky's comment, although the Hylian did have a point. She finished her food and cleaned her bowl, along with Star's. She had to wait a few moments more for Midnight to finish his, though, but it was soon clean and she packed them all back up. She pulled the pack up, sighing as her shirt rode up with it. She yanked it down and felt her fingers brush her scar. Unconsciously, she glanced at Gerrard, then hurriedly looked away. It had been a different man who'd stabbed her.
"Alright, everyone. Few more minutes, and we'll head out." She looked down at Elwood and smiled. "You ready to go sailing?"

Gerrard waded out ankle deep and knelt to a crouch. Using his hands, a piece of spare cloth, and the waves he cleaned the bowl vigorously. He really didn't want his pack smelling of fish for the rest of his journey, so he made sure to scrub it well. He waded back out, stuck the bowl in his pack and slipped his socks and boots on, annoyed at the sand he would have to clean out later. He was ready to go back when his eyes were drawn to Sephira, and he saw her shirt hike up, he was about to look away in embarrassment when he saw the scar on her hip. He felt a metallic taste in his mouth and suddenly his vision changed...

He saw a campsite, standing on a large field, trees stood around it and the camp looked very familiar. There were several people there, ranging from a teenager with dark hair to a girl with dirty blonde hair, the girl stood out to him. He stood within them, talking with contempt on his voice. The voices were muddled and he could not understand them, suddenly swords were drawn and voices were raised. A fight ensued between him and the girl, it drew to a stalemate. More words, filled with hate passed between them and his hidden dagger took her in the hip as she fell to the ground. Laughter echoed around him, the laughter of a thousand voices echoed through his mind and Gerrard screamed.

Gerrard woke up face down in the sand, a horrible taste in his mouth. He had to get rid of the taste, he strode over to the ocean water and rinsed his mouth out a few times. Better salt in his mouth than the taste, however it still lingered in the back of his throat. The laughter still echoed through his head, giving him a pounding headache as he returned to the log and put his face in his hands. I must get rid of the laughter...
