    *From Mournful Kingdom of Sand*

It couldn’t be possible for any living thing to describe Ikana Canyon as welcoming. Aside from the vaguely green grass lining the valley’s sleepy river, Ikana is all barren and rocky. It isn't hard to find some kind of corpse laying around in the dirt, and if you come across a live human, it is most likely the type you wouldn't want to meet, like a thief or some freak. To call the silent land home, you would either have a very strange reason and a sad life, or no life at all.

At least, that’s how Donovan would describe the canyon. He lived there until age 12, and was one of the very few who had to live there for a "strange reason". To this day, he isn't completely sure of that reason, because he doesn't know much about his life before living there. As much as he wishes that Ikana was unknown to him, he knows too much about it--he was quite familiar with the Gibdos and skeletons and other monsters who were supposed to be dead, but instead roamed the dusty canyon. And he feared these monsters like nothing else he had ever come across in his days wandering the world. As the group followed their passage towards Termina, Donovan almost felt like his soul would prevent him from crossing, but he had to stick with the group and let Chadur keep carrying him ahead. He had no desire to look ahead but had no doubt that it was Ikana they were aimed towards. He could almost tell just from a deathly scent the place held, and as they moved, the sand below them changed to a duskier color. He soon caught the windy silence he had spent years listening to as a kid--the dead silence that made his lyre a vital tool. The atmosphere naturally dropped his mental comfort to zero, and adding that to his physical pain put him in living hell and he longed to disappear. Without saying a word, Donovan tried to rest in Chadur's saddle and close his eyes, forcing himself to allow the horse to keep following behind the others. Of course, he knew that soon he would have to open his eyes again because besides himself and maybe Kaida, Ikana was unknown to the group. Maybe there was something waiting ahead that he didn't know about either... It didn't seem likely, but something could have changed in Termina while he and Kaida were gone.

Tennor looked around, the dead landscape assaulting his eyes... all the dead grass, the trees, the barren mountain... it made him sick.
He looked around, wondering why he felt like he was... what was this place?
Tennor stared in wonder at the area around him, "Where are we?"

Kaida looked around easily as the stifling desert heat gave way to the still air of Ikana canyon. She had been here only a few times, mostly chasing after crooks who attempted to hide here. Once she came here for fun, just to explore. She nearly died several times on that trip, even meeting an Iron Knuckles. She didn't like being back here, but oh well. she'd manage.
She glanced st Donovan. He was even more uneasy than herself, seeming to only barely keeping himself under control. She patted his knee and smiled sympathetically. "We'll be out of here soon."

Sephira was surprised by the stark contrast of the desert and this new place. Both had an air about them that spoke of quiet danger, but while Gerudo desert had its silent beauty accented by the hot golden sunlight, this place was silent as a grave and spoke only of the quiet of death. The desert had creatures in it, if only insects, lizards, and vultures, but here? Not even a mosquito, nor the annoying chirp of locusts. The quiet was unnerving for the Stari and she found herself walking closer to Star. "It's so quiet, she said, her voice seemingly loud in the still air.

"Ikana is a kingdom of the living dead," Kaida said. "The royal family who ruled here were at war with another nation, and neither side could let it go. Their spirits still haunt here, and it's not uncommon to see their undead corpses roaming the lands." She glanced at Donovan. "Only the crazed or desperate choose to live here."

Sephira breathed a quick prayer to the goddesses. Ever since finding her slaughtered tribe, she'd had a fear of the undea; Melody was the only exception. She was grateful to be leading the group, so they wouldn't see her uneasy expression or the sweat that broke out on her face.

Donovan silently smiled when Kaida spoke to him as his head rested on the back of Chadur's neck. As much as he hated the canyon, she made the trip worth it, and he was really eager to break off from the group with her soon. He appreciated the others but almost couldn't stand being with them at the moment. As he started to think about Kaida, his mind easily stopped paying attention to his surroundings. He wondered where they would go once they were on their own, what they would do.

Inga had ridden with Elwood next to Donovan through the desert, sometimes trying to make Donovan feel better about his wounds. When they arrived at the canyon, she looked around at the gloomy scenery. "Ikana, eh?" She wasn't too surprised because Lyxa had told her about it in the past. She had heard the stories about malicious undead creatures wandering around the canyon, but was truly interested in seeing one and having a little fight--she was sure one skeleton wouldn't stand a chance against how ever many people she traveled with. Inga was a bit creeped out of course, but much more excited knowing that this was the start of a rare adventure.

James took a deep breath, and then left the air inside his lungs for a few seconds before breathing out. It was no longer dusty, but it still felt dirty in a sense. He took a few steps into the unknown territory and crouched. Closing his eyes he let his ears scan the area trying to find any source of movement, but there was nothing. It was as if he had gone deaf. The only sound he could hear was that of the slow breathing of his companions and the animals with them. In other cases he would've been glad not to hear anything. The sound of silence meant they were alone, relatively safe. Not here. He had a feeling the silence accompanied death, and they'd do well by keeping away from it. His fingers gently brushed against the ground. The desert sand had been replaced by small rocks and dirt. He was also surprised to find some grass growing, despite its withered state. Any living thing growing in this place would surprise him.
Even after the entire analysis he gave the new area, he remained calm. There were many things that were dangerous to his sanity, but ghosts were not among them. He'd lived around death for so long that, rather than fear it, he understood it. It still unsettled him, much like the feeling Melody brought to him, but he wouldn't go as far as to call it fear. Standing back up, he groaned quietly. His leg still pained him even though he refused to admit it. Hopefully they'd find somewhere to rest soon.
Elwood hugged closer to the horse he was riding as they entered the new area. Conversely to James, death was something all but foreign to him, his only interactions with it having been his encounter with Elliot. He was terrified by the silence and the absence of friendly creatures welcoming them. For this same reason, the warmth of the living animal beneath him inspired some comfort and safety in him, and so he came as close to it as possible.
James pulled up next to Sephira. "We should stay close," he said to her, motioning to the group around. His volume was loud enough for the others nearby to hear, but not louder than he would've spoken had he been sneaking into Hyrule Castle. "Only the Goddesses may know what's waiting for us." Despite his comment, he had an eerie feeling that they had passed to a land beyond the care of the Goddesses. He could only hope the belief in them stayed a protection around the group. His breathing kept steady as they advanced deeper into the unknown.

Sephira nodded at James' comment, trying to hide how much he had startled her by speaking so abruptly. The silence was wearing on her, making her want to draw her bow and knock an arrow to it. She was so tense that even the gentle voice of James made her jumpy. She bit her lip nervously, trying to keep herself under control. Midnight whined softly, but was unable to comfort his mistress because he was needed by Elwood. Star pressed herself against Sephira's leg. "We'll be alright, Sephira," she whispered. "He can't come back."
"I know," Sephira breathed back, but her barely hidden fear made it clear that she didn't believe the words herself.

Kaida watched the girl and her cheetah with a frown. This girl was a strong young woman, very independent, and apperantly the leader of this ragtag group. But it was clear that something about Ikana made her uneasy, even more so than Kaida was. Sure, the silence could get on anybody's nerves, but Sephira was looking around furtively, as if afraid something would appear. But what? What was so terrifying about this place that a girl of Sephira's skill and resourcefulness would be frightened?
She had her answer a few moments later. A large Stalfos suddenly appeared over a rise ahead of them and started towards them, his blade rising as he grunted a challenge at them. Sephira fstared at the moving skeleton, eyes wide with fear, as she took several hasty steps backwards. Kaida raised an eyebrow at the Stari as she drew her sword. "Leave this to me!" she called to the rest of the group, wincing as her voice broke the dead silence. She strode towards the Stalfos, grinning. "Come on, sack of bones. Let's see what you're made of!"
"Bones, obviously," was Zarola's snarky comment, although only Sephira and the animals understand her.
The battle was quick, as all battles with such dumb creatures were, and Kaida sheathed her weapon as she strode back to the group. "Alright, girl," she said to Sephira as she stopped in front of the Stari. "What's got you so scared you'll jump at your own shadow? I know you people have the undead back in your country, I've seen them, so it's not that you're scared of that. So what's the deal?" She saw Sephira wince at her loud tone, but she couldn't help it. Even in the silence of Ikana, she had to be firm when confronting someone about something. That meant no coddling, sweet-talking, sugar-coating, or softening her tone.

James kept walking and noticed Sephira was acting strangely. He had noticed she was startled by his voice but thought nothing of it. After all, in this silence he would've probably been startled as well. However, she seemed tense. A lot. However he kept walking and suddenly something caught his eye to the left of the group. He was surprised he had noticed it since it blended perfectly with the dry and dead territory around it. He walked closer, acknowledging the fact that it didn't seem like any of the others had noticed it. Once he was close enough he could see it was in fact a sign. He was glad, hoping for a proper sense of direction in this Ghost Valley. However, he wasn't expecting what the sign said.
"From a proud tower in the town, Death looks gigantically down," he read aloud, not minding for a moment his volume. It didn't look like the type of sign a government would place in a part of its kingdom. Frankly, it gave him chills running down his spine. Looking down to the right, he could see there were more signs, all cleverly camouflaging with their surroundings, the wood old and breaking off with age. "For the night -- tho' clear -- shall frown, and the stars shall not look down," read the second one. This one was even weirder than the last, and he crossed his arms to stop the warmth escaping from his body. "Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!" he continued, "From their high thrones in the Heaven, with light like Hope to mortals given." He couldn't help but feel like that one related to the Goddesses, which among the darkness brought him some comfort. He read one last one and then decided to stop. "Sound loves to revel in a summer night." He closed his eyes and sighed. Reading the rest wouldn't do him much good. In fact, now he was hoping they wouldn't encounter a Poe of some sort. What could the signs possibly be...warnings?
Thinking about encountering things, he turned back to the group in time to notice a Stalfos appearing. He rushed forward but by the time he got to Sephira, Kaida had already taken care of the skeletal beast. He took a deep breath, glad that no one was hurt. However, he noticed Sephira acting even stranger than before. He looked at her worried. "Are you OK?"
"So what's the deal?" Kaida finished. Hearing the harsh tone and seeing Sephira's look of terror, he turned to Kaida and stepped defensively in front of his girlfriend. "Hey, take it down a notch will ya? You don't know what she's feeling right now and you definitely have no right to get snarky over it," he frowned, daring her to challenge him. His tone was strong, assertive, and unmoving. If there was one thing he didn't like it was someone speaking that way to one of his friends, and without a doubt it better not be to Sephira. However, he also didn't want to attack Kaida. After all, she had gotten rid of the Stalfos.
After a few more seconds he turned back to the girl, his frown immediately sweetening down to a concerned look, and he repeated his question. "Are you OK?"

Sephira flinched away from Kaida's accusing gaze, dropping her own to the rocky ground at her feet. Star wound her way around the Stari's legs, and Midnight even took a few steps towards her, before returning to comfort Elwood, FAHSDuijk. Sephira just bit her lip and closed her eyes. They're not coming back. Their spirits are in the nether world. I've seen them. They're not coming back. They're not coming back. They're not, they're not, they're not. But she had come back. She had made three trips to the nether world, and each time, she had returned. What was to keep another from doing the same? One with a strong enough will could break the flimsy bounds the goddesses had wrapped around the world of the dead. Strattus didn't, but did He? She knew he had a strong will and a strong goal. Was it enough? Could even one as cursed as he break free of Death?
"I'm fine, James," she whispered. "Just a little... spooked... I guess."

Kaida snorted. "Anyone coulda told me that. You're as frightened as a cat that realized it stole a Cuccoo's egg. So until you get your act together, I'm leading us out of here. We can't afford to have you freezing up if Ikana soldiers or Garo attack us, or worse yet, Gibdos and ReDeads. Besides, if you keep on the course you're leading us, we'll end up in the heart of Ikana, not Termina Field." She turned. "Let's go. We've already wasted too much time and we need to be out of here before the Bubbles start appearing."

"And so the Alphahood gets transferred to another," Zarola said with a yawn.
                "Shut it," Midnight growled.

James listened to Sephira carefully. He could tell she was spooked. Who wouldn't be? After a few quick nods he murmured soothingly, "It's OK. Everything's going to be alright." He then turned to look at Kaida. His tongue clicked inside his mouth, his fingers rubbed against each other fiercely, his nostrils flared and, most importantly, his eyes burned deeply. He couldn't believe the other girl could be so heartless and ruthless, not to mention cocky enough to believe she had the power to simply take over the leadership of a group that had barely even met her. He was angry at her and frustrated at his inability to help Sephira's psychological problems. However, despite all the signs of hatred his body was experiencing, deep within himself, he was thankful. Gratefulness surrounded his feelings for Kaida because the girl would be leading them on. The time Sephira had been away had been one of the most difficult in his life not only because he had been worried for her, but because he had had to lead the group as well. James knew very well that he wasn't a leader. Everytime he led others it was straight into trouble. Problems he caused, and he wasn't a fan of it. So the fact that the new girl would be taking over for now was comforting, not to mention that it was obvious she had more experience in this place than him. Termina Field? What in the Goddesses' name is that?
He said nothing, however, because he was still angry on the outside. Sephira came first and Kaida's feelings towards her lit up his own feelings of despise at her. He held Sephira's hand as he followed Kaida, slowly.
"It's alright," he whispered, "We'll be out of here soon. You don't need to tell me about what's worrying you, if you don't want to, but know that I'm here if you need anything." He looked at her with a warm twinkle in his eye. A half smile made its way onto his face and he appeared as loving as he ever had. A few bangs of dirty blonde fell over his eyes, but they didn't stop him from looking at the beautiful girl in front of him, the woman he loved. "As long as a living breath remains inside of me," he finished with all the honesty in the world, "I won't let anything hurt you. From living or...dead, you're safe. I'll make sure of that." He gently and cautiously pecked her cheek. It was soft, making sure not to upset anything in her. He didn't know what was making her feel bad, it might even be him for all he knew. But he knew his love was true, as were his words. He'd keep her safe from anything, even himself. Finally he looked back forward and kept walking, pulling Sephira along.

Elwood finally regained his composure after the horrifying jump-scare he'd gotten from the Stalfos. As the creature had appeared, shield raised and bony legs making their way towards them, its hollow eye sockets met Elwood and the boy's blood froze over. His last breath was paralyzed inside of him, his fingers gripped the mane of the horse tightly, sweat beads formed on his forehead and his mouth fell open. In that split second, his whole world came crashing down. Then, Kaida jumped in between the two and saved the day. Once the undead creature died once more, it took him a few seconds to get "back on the horse".
It wasn't that he had never seen one or experienced the stare of a Stalfos before. In fact, if there was one monster he was used to, it was that one. In his adventures through the Lost Woods he'd met more than one, only having been saved by his loyal fairy countless of times. However, the full knowledge of the creature was also the reason why his fear of it was even bigger. He knew what the skeleton was capable of, and he didn't want to be there when it happened.
After a few more deep breaths he glanced back at Inga.
"Boy, that was intense wasn't it?" he said. His childish tone returned and he was back to the normal Elwood. He also looked down and was glad to see Midnight trotting alongside them. Had anything happened, at least he knew the wolf would defend him. The wolf, now more than a friend to him, was one of the creatures he trusted the most, second only to his partner fairy. Plus, he got to ride Midnight which was definitely a big bonus.

Donovan's head still rested on Chadur's black neck, and all he looked at was the insides of his eyelids, sometimes hazily watching the bleak ground pass below. Then he heard it. That familiar, horrifying sound of bones ripping out of the dry canyon ground he hadn't heard for so many years. He wanted to shut off all his senses, but all he could do for now was squeeze his eyes shut like a child, hoping he never caught a glimpse of another undead being. He knew someone would do something about it--battling Ikana's monsters can be no problem for those willing to do it. Then he heard Kaida's voice split the valley's silence and there were a few sharp bone cracks. All he knew now was that he was temporarily safe, and was amazed at how Kaida could just run up and do that.
But Kaida surprised Donovan yet again when he heard her harsh tone towards Sephira. What did she have against the girl from Hyrule? He didn't know where the bitterness came from, but just hoped that Kaida's leadership meant avoiding any more enemy encounters. Ikana was draining him of the little power he had left, and it felt possible that he could just die right there in Chadur's saddle.

Inga was a bit startled when she first saw the moving white bones ahead, but couldn't help staring and grinning in amazement. There was some sad, strange beauty she found in the creature that gave her excitement she knew she wasn't supposed to feel. She let Kaida take this first one, but was looking forward to putting her blades on a Stalfos of her own.
"Sure was," she responded to the Kokiri in front of her. She had forgotten all about him while watching Kaida's fight. "You don't see that very often." She was a bit confused when she heard how Kaida spoke to Sephira, but didn't pay it much attention for now, the image of the Stalfos still fresh in her mind.

Sephira flinched at Kaida's harshness, but offered no objection or reply as the huntress took the lead. She was right, after all. Sephira had freezed up. She had fought many creatures that terrified others, with not even a sliver of fear herself. But the undead... Gibdos, ReDeads, Stalfos, even Poes and Stalchildren. They all frightened her.
She felt a warm hand grab her own and frowned down at it. Warm? No one felt warm to her. With her phoenix heat, everyone was cool to her, some even cold. So why did James feel warm? Then she realized. Her fiery heat increased with her emotions, especially her rage and joy. Some emotions, however, cooled it, such as grief. Fear was so rare for her, she hadn't noticed its affect on her heat.
Did it surprise James to find her cold? Did it worry him? Frighten him? Did it Star, who continued to twist around her legs as she walked? Would it the others?
"We can't have you freeze up," Kaida had said. Freeze up...
Heat suddenly flooded through Sephira. "I am fire personified," she whispered, directing the words to herself. "Heat and flames are mine to command. Ice and cold have no hold on me."
"Thatta girl," Star purred. She stopped weaving around Sephira's legs and returned to walking beside her, on the opposite side as James.
Sephira smiled, then gave James' hand a reassuring squeeze. "Thank you," she said, planting a gentle kiss on his cheek. He didn't know how much his coolness had reminded her of who she was, and probably never would.

Kaida pointed to a break in the canyon wall not too far ahead. "I guess you weren't too far off, Sephira. That's the exit of Ikana. We'll reach Termina Field by nightfall. After that, Donovan and I will head to Clock Town. If you guys want to join us, you may, or if you'd prefer to head somewhere else, I can point you in the right direction."

(Hopefully, that'll be enough to get us into the rebel camp, Z. Guys, let's try to get there before Friday, mmm?)

(Yes please... as of next Monday I'm out for a month and a half so I'd like to do something before then)
Tennor thought, then said, "I have nowhere better to go. I'll join you... if it's all right of course," he peered at the others, then to the break she had pointed to.

An honest smile of gladness refused to leave James' face as he felt Sephira warm up again. He didn't know what it was, but it seemed she was coming back to them, finally. He kept walking and then slowed when Kaida began talking. It seemed they were almost out of the canyon. A small breeze brushed by his face and he took a deep breath. They were almost out of this trouble. He turned to make sure everyone was doing all right. "Alright guys, we're almost there. So," he looked directly at Elwood and smiled, "just hold on for a little bit lo-" He stopped himself as he realized something. Behind Elwood, in the direction that led deeper into the canyon, he noticed something. It was partially hidden by the clouds, but it was visible enough for him to make it out. A tower, large, larger than any structure he'd seen before. From this perspective it seemed like it led all the way to the heavens. He raised his eyebrows and muttered, "Guess those signs weren't lying after all." Shaking his mind from the image, he turned back and headed for the opening, keeping up with Sephira. Just hold on for a little bit longer...
Elwood smiled halfheartedly at Inga's response and then looked ahead at the opening everyone was heading to. He sighed with relief and smiled down at Midnight. "You hear that, Mid, no more dead things for now." He kept focused and hoped the opening was closer than expected.

                            (One more post in here)

Donovan was a bit relieved when he heard Kaida mention an exit from Ikana, but their movement through the valley felt like forever. He didn't even want to open his eyes long enough to look at the exit, as if eye contact with the dead land would drain his soul completely. There was a sting of dread when James was cut off by something mid-sentence, but Donovan was reassured when he didn't hear anyone getting attacked again.

Inga continued riding next to Donovan, watching his terrified expression. She figured that he would be better when they reached the exit ahead, and she didn't think he wanted to be talked to. She looked at James as he spoke, and followed his sight towards a huge tower looming in the distance. The creepy valley amazed her once again, and she told herself that after she has seen the rest of Termina, she would come back and check this place out. Looking back ahead, she smiled at Elwood's innocence as he talked to Midnight. Before she knew it, walls of rock narrowed to their sides. They had reached the canyon exit.
Inga gazed over the rest of the rocks ahead at the green field in the distance. She finally got to see what she guessed was Termina Field–the large, central area of Termina. Not quite as green as Hyrule, but it was fine. She saw a bit of what must have been Clocktown, and then something else caught her eye. A cluster of people were crowded at the spot where canyon rocks met grass. She thought she heard a three syllable chant too, but couldn't make it out.
"Hey," she said, catching the group's attention and pointing at the distant people. "Is that normal around here?"
