  • Gerrard was happy that Elwood did not pursue the topic of him running away from the law, he would rather not try to justify his past self whose whole life depended on him making money through stealing. He couldn't possibly expect the little Kokiri to understand this, as he himself, deep inside even knew it was wrong. But then, when he heard of Elliot's death, he had feelings inside of him he hadn't had for a long while. Elliot was his first true friend, after the massacre of his childhood village, he had saved his life, they had great times together. The fun times at Hyrule Field, he would never EVER forget that. Even if, he had gone bad afterwards, never again would he forget. He would never forget anything, he had promised that to himself long ago, no matter how hard life got. A feeling welled up in his chest, but stopped at a lump in his throat. His heart felt like it was spiraling into a deep abyss, shattering any sort of warmness and confidence he had within. His soul had a cry he could not express, he had never felt like this before, even when he was young he had never felt like this. But, he did not audibly cry, he had a small sob, but simply slammed the emotions inside of him and looked at Elwood with a single tear in his eye. Sorry, I...I never realized he was dead. Just assumed he was somewhere else in the camp, as I do not really socialize much. Me and him were good friends, good friends for a long long while. If you don't mind Gerrard cautiously asked Could you tell me how he died, I just want to know so I can have some closure.

    • "There were four siblings in my household. I grew up in Castle Town with an older brother and two younger sisters. You know, all that jazz. Thing is, though I love my mom very much, she wasn't always very, er, faithful. While they are my family, my siblings aren't really my blood." As Jacky told her story, James rested his head on the palm of his right hand, looking at her curiously. He wondered if she'd ever had to tell that story before. "My hair," she continued as she played with the loose strand of hair, "is blonde because of my father. Except not my real father. I mean my biological father." She frowned, thinking about how to explain it. "You see, my biological father is someone else, a guy I've never met but I learned about from my mom. The one I've known all my life, my dad, isn't my blood, but he's more real to me than some random man from Kakariko Village ever will be." James nodded slowly in understanding.
"Don't worry, I get it. My dad was never there for me, he was a real dirtball. I don't doubt that he wasn't faithful to my mom, either, in all the time he was gone. The only thing I have to remind me of him is my skin and my hair. And believe me, it's a reminder I'll never forget." His eyes drifted off as his thoughts returned to the darker time in his life when the story of his childhood had unraveled. But the guy was dead now, it was all that mattered.
"And this guy, I think he was called Seamus, not once in his life did he stop by to check on me. I don't even know if he's still alive. Although, considering what a lowlife my mom described him as, I wouldn't doubt someone's finished the job by now." James' eyes snapped back to hers at the mention of the name. The coincidence was unsettling, and that wasn't a very common name.
      "His name was Seamus?"

      –––

Elwood gulped down food as he came to the realization that Gerrard hadn't known Elliot was dead. His eyes widened as more emotion could be felt in the hunter's voice. Nia whispered in his ear, chastising him. "You've done it now. You broke him."
He ignored her, and looked at his thumbs as he thought of how to respond. A direct approach, that must be the best way to do it. Looking up at Gerrard's pained eyes, his voice came out hoarse. "We battled in Hyrule Field. I had just been taken from the forest and a darker force came over me. I was vicious, but he fought back. However, his mind wasn't in the right place. He was worried about someone, James I think. As soon as he got a chance he turned from the battle and knelt over him, over James. Whatever evil was in my blood forced me to come upon him. I stabbed him with a knife, and both he and the evil spirit within me died at once." Elwood looked away, ashamed he hadn't been able to control his actions. "Whatever evil that was, it's somewhere out there. It is why we are here, fleeing from it." Nia whispered something else, and Elwood's darker tone changed back. He smiled pitifully at Gerrard. "Elliot stood no chance, but he fell bravely. I'm sorry." Taking his empty plate, Elwood headed off to return it to the kitchen. He didn't think Gerrard would be very happy with him anymore. Why did you have to go and open your big dumb mouth?

      • Gerrard was shocked, Elwood? Kill someone? He never would have imagined it. But then, it made sense. Elwood talked about being taken over by a "darker force", it reminded him a lot about himself and his experience with Ganondorf. He felt anger rise up in his chest at this knowledge of Elliot's death, for a split second Gerrard felt the urge to run up to Elwood and use physical force, but he took a deep breath, he knew that this wasn't Elwood's fault. Elwood couldn't have controlled himself any more than Gerrard could have when he was controlled by Ganondorf. The sadness still lingered inside of him, it wasn't going away, and he suspected that it would remain there for a long time. He just couldn't believe that Elliot was gone, the light hearted fellow, he was gone forever. But Gerrard knew that he had to move on soon, with so much going on he couldn't linger on emotions that could interfere with his goal of starting a new life. Right then and there he decided to thrust the sadness into the back of his mind, at least until he had a private place to let it all out. He then decided to go to his tent, and wait for anything else to happen in the camp.

        • Jacky nodded slowly, the name tasting like poison to her lips. "Yeah, he was Seamus something. Acorn or Arccad or something like that."
"Accardo?" She nodded, surprised James had guessed the name. However, he didn't look amused at all. His head felt heavier than usual as he pushed himself from the ground with his uninjured hand and stared off into the distance. The nearby trees were letting leaves fall and cover the ground. The wind whistled through the field, but James was too trapped in his own prison of a mind to pay any attention to his surroundings. Jacky knew something was happening, though she didn't understand what the problem was. She stood up after him and put her hand on his shoulder. Shying away from her touch, he turned grimly, a dark shadow over his eyes. There was rage in them, along with disbelief and some disappointment hanging out in the back. "Who set you up for this?" he asked gravely. She was taken aback, frowning at the question.
"Up for what? What's going on, James?"
"Don't play games with me. Not on this!" he answered as he grabbed her shoulders and shook her with rage. She yelped at his clutch and immediately slapped him to set herself free. He was shocked by this, but glad she had done so. He began feeling more sick and confused. His arms went up to his throat and one hand tried to claw away at a stiffness that was forming there.
"James, I am serious. What's wrong?"
"If you are truly honest about this, then that man has done more wrong than you think, and not only to you." His words were like growls now, and his teeth were grinding so hard against each other he could feel the ache in his mouth growing larger. Jacky stared at him in silence, waiting for him to continue. She couldn't be sure, but the way James talked about him, the way his mood had changed... She had a feeling she knew were this was going. Standing before his eyes, she held on to both of his arms, not letting him get away this time. Her voice became calm and soothing.
"Who is he to you? How do you know him?" James swallowed saliva with a metallic taste in his mouth. He looked into her eyes, all the rage and confusion having evaporated. Now only pity stared back at her.
          "He is...was my father."

          • "Hey little guy," Inga said as she saw Elwood come into the kitchen. She took the dirty plate he held and added it to the heap in the washing bucket. "How's your day been?" There was something in his facial expression that looked just a bit off, but Inga couldn't be sure.

            • Gerrard was sitting in his tent, pondering over his current situation. He looked around his view of the camp, it seemed so small, and sheltered, much more so than the environment he grew up in. He then got a strong yearning in his heart to explore, he knew that Clock Town was nearby, and he doubted that anyone would care if he slipped away their and came back to meet up with his hunting group early in the morning. He stood up quickly, making him lightheaded, and prepared to head out. He was only doing this to explore, to explore and to break the routine, so he didn't carry much with him except for the clothes on his back, a piece of bread, and his weapons.
Gerrard gathered his things, and began to sneak behind the tents towards the exit leading to where he heard Clocktown was. He got about 100 feet from the gate, and he saw the guard was on duty. He knew that if he attempted anything weird that the guard would suspect him if caught, Gerrard simply acted natural as if he was going on official business. He approached the gate, nodded tursely towards the guard, and walked past.
              HALT!
Gerrard quickly stopped in his tracks, disappointed that his plan had not gone through. But turned around as if nothing was wrong, and addressed the guard.
Sorry, I should have introduced myself earlier, I am a hunter and I have heard some rumors that the herds of animals have moved and I was simply wanting to research these rumors myself
Gerrard hoped that the guard would accept the lie, as it seemed to sound real enough.
Hmm, the guard seemed to look at Gerrard for a second, and he then accepted the statement, not caring enough to fully research it, and let the hunter through.
Gerrard briskly walked through, only grinning when he emerged on the other side, as he tromped his way to Clock Town.
(I will skip all the way to Clock Town)

              • Elwood looked up, surprised to find someone addressing him here. Then he remembered that Inga had been assigned cook duty. He leaned over the counter and rested his head there. "I am so tired. You know I've been playing all day and then I was talking with a guy and now I'm just tired of this day." He humphed and sighed, while Nia flew out of his tunic and rested on his head.
"Well, be glad you weren't working all day. I bet Inga here must be ten times as tired as you."

                • Midnight bumped Elwood's arm, reminding the boy he was still there. He almost hoped Elwood would come back and play with him again, but it was getting late, and he was tired. No doubt the Kokiri was too, and they'd be looking for their sleeping quarters soon.

Star was surprised when Zarola came through the camp. Approaching the black panther, she asked if there was another message from Sephira. She flicked her tail in answer. "Maxwell is away from his mansion and his army, in Great Bay. Except for Sephira and his new wolf friend, there's no one nearby. If Edward hurries, he'll be able to set an ambush with ease."
Star nodded and thanked the dark predator. She then hurried through the camp, attempting to find Edward. She'd have preferred to tell James, since he was more accepting of her 'intelligence', but he had left the camp with that other girl. So instead she'd just have to find the rebel leader and give him the message, and hope he'd think it was more than just random scratching in the sand.

                  • Edward was sitting at one of the camp's campfires (which wasn't lit of course) when he noticed Star walking around. "Hey." Edward said, getting the cheetah's attention. "You looking for me again?" Edward asked, knowing that it probably wouldn't understand him.

                    • Star's ears pricked as she heard Edward's voice. She stopped and turned, seeing him sitting before a pile of twigs and logs. She approached him, her tail curled behind her. She sat next to him, very deliberately meeting his gaze with her own, and scratched into the ground next to them. The words would be different from how he was used to reading them, as her claws created four letters where one should be, but it would still be legible, if he had the sense to see it.

                      • Edward looked at Star's message, taking a little time to decode it. When he finished, he nodded his head.

"Alright. Hey, if you can understand me, get somebody of your group to come with me. I want them to come ambush Maxwell with me. Go on now." Edward said, standing up.

He was surprised that a moment like this would present itself so quickly. He really thought this whole thing was going to last longer. Whatever.

Edward quickly walked through the camp, and found Zebulon. "Hey, Zeb, we're ambushing Maxwell. Want to come?"

Zeb looked at Edward. "Ambushing Maxwell? This is pretty big mission, then. Shouldn't we be telling everybody about it?"

"I'd rather tell them when we come back, with his head in our hands." Edward said.

Zebulon hesitated for a little, realizing that Edward sounded pretty serious about this, then spoke.

"Ok, good point. Are we waiting on anybody, or are we going now?"

"I sent one of Sephira's pets to get someone from her group. I want one of them to be there with us."

Zeb then remembered at this point that Sephira was spying for the rebellion. He honestly didn't understand why she did it. If he was asked to, he would've turned it down, unless they were paying him a great sum. It was a big job for a group of people you've just met.

                        • Star nodded and hurried off. Whoever she picked would have to be someone Sephira trusted, to keep her safe and not get in the way. Naturally, her choice was James. The camp blew past her as she allowed herself the full speed of her species, her tail standing out straight behind her like a tiller, allowing her to turn around obstacles with ease. As the camp disappeared behind her, she slowed her pace to look for James' scent. It did not take her long to find, and she followed it with as much speed as she dared. After but a moment, she skidded to a halt next to him, spraying soil to the side. She nudged his side insistently, feeling that if Edward was going to act on Zarola's message immediately, James should be there soon. After all, the sooner this mess was finished, the sooner Sephira could rejoin them and they all could continue on.

                          • Jacky pulled away immediately. She had had a feeling about the direction this was going, but it still felt like a blow to her stomach. It was hard to process, and the world began spinning around her. However, James caught her before she fell and after a minute of silence and heavy breathing, she was able to stand again. "Do you mean your blood father?" James nodded heavily in response. Now that the information was out, he began looking at her in a different way. Their, while kept in different styles, was of color very similar to each other. Their skin was tanned from the Sun, but it was easy to see just how similar their pale complexion was. In fact, many things about each other looked similar, except for the eyes. They were standing next to each other, each looking in opposite directions, the silence more thick than ever. Jacky kept playing with the strand of hair with her fingers. "So you...you and I, we're siblings?"
"Half-brothers, I think," James answered, his first words in a while. His voice was soft now, just a few decibels above a whisper. Jacky blushed as she remembered the soft kiss she had passed over him before, considering what they now knew. Although, it hadn't been much of a kiss anyway. Just then Star skidded to a halt right by them, sending dirt flying everywhere. James was very surprised to see her, but if she had been in such a hurry to get here it meant something was happening. "What is it, Star?" he asked, cautious as he was afraid it might be bad news. However, Star scribbled the message on the ground as before, and as soon as he understood it he knew there was no time. He looked up at Jacky apologetically. "I'm sorry, something is happening back at camp. I really need to go, I, um... Can we keep talking later? I really am sorry," he tried explaining as he gathered his things. Finally, he stopped and looked Jacky straight in the eyes, "We'll figure this out." With that, he turned and rushed back to camp as fast as he could, being guided by Star. Jacky was left there standing, staring in awe after him.

James reached the camp soon thereafter, out of breath but not tired in the slightest. Star led him right back to Edward and, to his surprise, Zebulon. "Hey," said, addressing the rebel leader, "what's going on?"

Zebulon's eye twitched a little when he heard that Sephira was going to be there. He remembered what happened what happened when he saw Sephira's group talking with Edward, and didn't want a rerun of that. He would follow Edward's orders this time.

He didn't have any particular feelings at the time towards Zebulon, and decided inciting any kind of argument wouldn't work. Instead he would just do what he had to to get Sephira back in one piece. His hand hovered over his knives, anxious to get this whole thing over with an go back to finish talking with Jacky.
