  • Update to Rules

As the staff has decided not to continue discussing the topics in the staff topics, I'm going forward to update the rules. First and foremost, any personal attachments that members have to the staff are to no longer used for biased opinions.

In addition, the shoutbox is no longer the place to talk about ANY and I mean ANY personal events, whether it's your dog dying, your grandma gets sick, you got a promotion or skipped school, it's disallowed in the shoutbox. You can still PM and make threads regarding it, however, the shoutbox is no longer the appropriate area. This is your one warning. I will come down hard for this if I personally see it. This is one of the biggest reasons there are fights and this is to prevent it.

How does talking about something personal lead to fights?

I'm not insulting the rule, just asking for the reasoning.
So I'm back, or at least I will be eventually. Trying to reintegrate myself.
My 3DS Friend Code is 3437-3052-8998. I'm usually playing the MH4U demo or MH4U(When it comes out), but I'd also be down for 3DS Smash Bros.
(Note to self: The hex code is #d98fef, so don't forget it)

I don't understand how talking about a promotion or something could start a fight, could you please explain? I understand no controversial topics, but I don't understand personal stuff like that at all.

I understand the idea of no talking about something that may start a fight, or stuff that really isn't good like skipping school or doing something illegal. But I see no problem with talking about something such as a promotion, for example. I am not arguing I am simply pointing something out so that you can help make this site even better.

I have this in place now because I will reference Naked Crook and Midna's last fight. She said something personal and his pressumed attitude had escalated the conflict. Now using a promotion as an example, suppose I say I got a promotion. A member could be condescending and say that they've had five raises and three promotions. Therefore starting a fight. That's why all personal things, good and bad, are being silenced in the shoutbox.

That's TWO people who fight ALL the time. I don't know why you are punishing everyone when only certain people are fighting... Why not just post a notice that if your feelings are easily hurt, don't post personal things in the SB?

Please! Before everyone loses tempers! Kairu, this rule is going to halt just about all conversation in the chatbox, and will chase any new membs. Please! Before this rule causes current members to leave, change the rule! This rule will destroy the site!

Because I was asked to express my opinion on this, I am posting here.
I think this is way over the line. "Personal"? What does that even mean. Anything we say that's related to us in some way is personal. Even talk about the site, because the site affects us all. This rule was uncalled for in my opinion. Talking like normal people in the chat doesn't cause fights. Different points of view cause fights. No matter what anyone does, that's not going to change. If you see someone saying something that is inappropriate for the Main SB, then tell the people involved to take it to a PC. OR even a PM. Or if they are deserving enough, punish those people, but please don't just decide that you're going to disregard everyone's freedom of speech right and do whatever. At least not without consulting other members. And not just mods and higher rankings, but "normal" people too. If it affects everyone, everyone should get to discuss it. And if you do only consult with higher ranking members, then don't disregard their opinions. This rule is shocking and wrong in my opinion.

Here are my 2 cents regarding the rule, and what I think should be amended to it.

                      1. I agree that talking about any negative personal stuff should NOT be made public. It's simply depressing, and for the most part, when it's done publicly, people do it for the attention. On TNO, we had someone come on literally everyday, and shout something on the lines of "Life is meaningless" or something else like that, every day. We had another person, some 6th grader who kept complaining about not having a girlfriend, and how he wanted to date this one girl, who he'd flip flop on calling her an angel, or a B***h. "Oh...but AoW and TNO are completely different sites". True, they are different. But what happens down the line if you get a new member, who all he talks about, is how much he wants to kill his dog? You'd be able to ban his butt off the SB.

                      2. I disagree with the "promotion part" however. Anything that can liven up the day should always be said. One could argue that someone really sad could see that and become super jelly, but that's a really scummy person, not deserving of attention when creating rules for a site that has an active community. About the guy saying he had 5 promotions to the guy who had one? The first guy is just a jerk, and you can just tell him to buzz off. So if there's one part of the rule that I think should be amended...it's that.

Look guys, just cut Kairu some slack. He wants to hear your opinions, in most cases, nobody hears the opinions of others unless they want to take them into consideration. Wink, Wink.

Okay that's kind of a silly thing to say. I think most of the time when someone would say "I got a promotion!" other people would congratulate them. As Cuban said, it adds happiness to the SB atmosphere. I don't think people would brag about how much better they are than that person, unless they are either enemies or have social issues. The basic rule, which has been around forever, is to be respectful to other people. I do agree that when someone says something negative, it can make the SB setting a bit dark, but that can also help the person. If someone did say something like "I failed my test" other people (the ones without social issues) would probably cheer them up and not make them feel worse. When they cheer the person up, it makes their day better than it could be, and I don't see any problem with that. The people who make them feel worse are the people who get banned from the SB. Then you have the people like Cuban was talking about in part one of his post. Those people shouldn't be on the SB. But that doesn't mean everyone else who hasn't done anything wrong should be restricted.

I completely agree with Peeps. We should crack down on the individuals who are disrespectful, not everyone.

I have rid this rule. However, I want to make it known that if people want to talk about personal matters, do NOT get offended when someone badmouths it. There's a "report shout" button in the archive. Feel free to use it.

Thank you very much Kairu. Now that I'm more active, I'll make sure to keep the peace on the SB.
