She hesitated as he stepped closer, catching the look in his dark eyes. Her crest started ruffling, and she couldn't help marveling the effect he could have on her, even as irritated with him as she was. She sighed and stepped aside to let him enter. "Well, it sure has been interesting," she offered, rubbing the back of her neck. She wasn't sure how much she wanted to tell Zulo - she didn't want him to worry about her but she also didn't want him to feel like she was shutting him out. "I'd just paid off one of the debts I'd incurred before The Phoenix got crushed, and I'm currently without a crew. I'm, also still without a partner, because I've been so busy trying to keep myself out of harm's way that I haven't even thought about raising a family. But, I want to, you know?" she offered the prince a weak smile. "It's hard to think about the future when the present isn't certain."Old Age of War stuff here:

"Yes indeed," Zulo agreed. His mind was aflutter from their ascent into space, though he tried to focus on the conversation. "If there's one thing I've learned as prince, it's that nothing is more important than the now." He turned and walked closer to the front window of the ship, staying clear of the array of controls at the front. "Astonishing, isn't it?" he said in reference to their space flight. The stars were often clear on Terarn nights, but he had never seen a view like this.Comment

Eventually she stood and quietly gathered up their clothes, throwing them all in the cleaning receptacle. She briefly wondered if the ship’s computer would be able to handle the Earth fabrics, but she shrugged. If worse came to worse and the clothes were destroyed, she knew Daniel had some outfits he’d left aboard the last time he’d been with her. While they might be large, they’d offer decent covering. She studied the sleeping Sylvester a moment and idly wondered what he’d look like dressed in traditional èirinn clothing instead.
She grabbed her tablet, confirming there were no missed coms, then turned its volume back on and set it in an alcove by the bed. She turned the light off and crawled back into bed, this time pulling the thermal blanket out over her and her bed mate.
Daniel eventually gave up. The Earth vehicle was bizarre enough that he couldn’t understand it, not without being able to open it up properly. He’d tried gently forcing the various compartments open, but each resisted his efforts. He reasoned there must be a locking mechanism of some sort, which meant he’d have to go speak to Xiomara’s companion. He cringed at the thought. While his mistress and his own nose had both confirmed he hadn’t been a strainth, Daniel still worried about facing one so similar to his former masters.
Hoping to put off such a meeting, he instead made his way to the med bay. The medical droid beeped happily on seeing him and he couldn’t help a smile. “Been awhile, huh,” he said to the droid. “Dragon’s going to want to make sure I get checked out before we get too much deeper in space. Then I can give you a tune-up.” Medy gave another cheerful beep as it set about its task.Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Zaria smiled and walked up to stand next to Zulo, stopping a few paces behind him. "Yeah, the view is pretty nice," she agreed, admiring the view out the window as well as the one just to her right. She was glad to have convinced the prince to come with her into space; here, there weren't any palace guards side eyeing her and eavesdropping on their conversations. "How has the royal life been treating you?" she asked. "Still glitz and glamour?"Old Age of War stuff here:

"Hardly," Zulo sighed. "It's been tedious. Sometimes I think my officials are trying to mess with me... but enough about work. " Zulo turned to Zaria and grinned. "It's vacation time. I wonder if there's anything to drink on here?" Just then one of the ship's drones beeped on by. Zulo snapped his fingers as if the thing was his servant. "Robot! Fetch me a drink, would you?"Comment

Zaria snickered as the robot wheeled past Zulo without even a beep to acknowledge him. "You know you aren't in the palace anymore, right Zulo? You're going to have to fend for yourself." She clapped a hand on his shoulder and shook him slightly. "Let's see if we can find a kitchen on this ship; if Xio has alcohol, I'll mix you up something real nice." She let her hand trail down his arm and tugged him by the wrist so he would follow her as she began wandering about the ship, trying to find the Mess Hall. Up ahead she saw a humanoid figure and waved to them. "Hey! Where can a gal get some refreshments here?!" Daniel put his tools back in his waist apron and gave Medy a pat. "Feel better now?" The droid gave a few happy beeps and he smiled at it. While he knew his mistress did what she could to take care of it, there was only so much her limited technological experience could do. He suspected at some point he'd need to examine the other droids aboard the ship as well, to make sure they were functionally optimally. The repair droids especially tended to get a lot of use, more than his mistress liked to admit, and would certainly appreciate a tune-up if not a complete upgrade.
Something to look into later. His belly was gurgling, and he realized he hadn't eaten since sometime before Zaria had shown up at his garage with the crushed ship. He winced again in memory of the poor vessel. He knew how much it meant to Zaria, just as he knew how much his mistress cared about Sionnach, and it broke his heart knowing how near impossible it would have been to repair. He did hope that Zoto would do right by it.
As if somehow summoned by his thoughts, Daniel heard the Rito call to him from down the corridor. He turned and offered a crooked smile. "Y-you'll find the g-galley further down," he answered. "C-can't imagine Dragon has... has very much to offer, though." He hesitated. He knew his mistress had little patience for cooking; the vast majority of her food supply would likely be whatever easily consumed rations she'd picked up from the previous planet. He shuddered as he thought about one time she'd stopped at the planet populated mostly by an insectoid race. "Splendid!" Zulo said, clasping his hands and giving Daniel a polite bow. "I'm parched." He sat down at the table across from Zaria, thrilled to be catching up with his best friend. "You're gonna have to tell me of all the great adventures I've missed out on."Comment

She smiled weakly at Zulo and rubbed the back of her head with one hand. "Well, to be honest, there's not that much to tell," she began. "You remember how we played pirates as kids? I uh, didn't ever stop being a pirate." She shifted a little in her seat and looked around for Daniel. "Not a word of this to your mistress," she hissed at him before turning back to Zulo. "I'm sure you've gotten reports from the city guards about my less than desirable activities, but somehow, I always seemed to escape jail time." she laughed a little at that. "Seems like I had somebody watching my back, but I'm not sure you would know anything about that."
She turned to Daniel, who stood nearby looking nervous. "Does Xio have any booze on this ship?" she asked. "If she does I'd love to make you two something tasty, if you're into that sort of thing, Daniel." She remembered Zulo drinking with her when they were kids, but wasn't sure if his age had sobered him up. Her life on the fringe of society left her with a high tolerance, but also a high need to drink away what she saw when things got too rough.Old Age of War stuff here:

Daniel moved into the kitchen and began opening bins to pull out ingredients. He kept an ear on the conversation, and winced at the hissed command. He knew it was highly unlikely his mistress would ask about anything said, but he'd been caught before between the command of silence from one and the command to speak from another. No matter what he chose, he'd been punished.
He looked up at the question and frowned, considering. His mistress would have some random food and drinks from the various planets she's visited, but alcohol was one thing she never brought, given her allergy. He opened a cupboard and pulled out a bottle. "D-dragon doesn't keep a-any alcohol," he explained as he brought it over to the table. "H-her body has... has a bad reaction. Th-this is from... from her home p-planet. It w-works for her the... the same way, but it j-just tastes sweet t-to me." He met a few besides the èirinn who became intoxicated by drinking it, and while it amused him, he had yet to figure out the common factor. Except for the èirinn, those who were intoxicated by it tended to be the larger species.

Zulo kept his attention on Zaria as Daniel came with a bottle and glasses. "Yeah, I heard some things. How did you manage to sink The Pearl? That thing was loaded with cannons! I hope you got some good loot before it went under." He chuckled, pouring himself and Zaria a couple nice glasses of alien juice. He took a hearty taste and couldn't hold its effervescence, accidentally spitting it out to the side with a cough. "Woah, that's strong stuff." Zaria laughed loudly. "The Pearl? I'm surprised that hunk of junk was still afloat when I went after it! Those cannons were all for show anyway, half of 'em didn't even fire." She took a small sip of her drink after Zulo's reaction to it, and flinched herself. It was much sweeter than she had anticipated it to be, and it threw her off. "I guess since you've heard tale of that ship, I should come clean. There's actually a lot to tell, and some of it is..." she trailed off and avoided looking at the other Rito. "Not great," she muttered, downing the rest of her drink despite the sweetness. "Have you heard of any other grand escapades of mine?" she asked.Old Age of War stuff here:

"Oh, yeah," Zulo laughed. It seemed he had more stories to tell about Zaria than she was willing to tell herself. "I heard about that merchant fleet that you helped navigate through the fog. Right into a shallow reef!" He cracked up at the thought. "That's too good. You know we had to send a ship out to rescue them? The sailors said you were responsible, though their description matched just about every pirate ship on the sea."Comment
